Books and Coffee? Yes, please! If you rent a car and drive on your trip to Iceland, you are going to pass through Selfoss, probably more than once. We were looking for a new place to stop, and just happened upon Bokakaffid by luck. As we read the sign, with sheer joy we realized it was not just a bookstore, but also a coffee shop! We would have stopped just for the books, by the way. Inside, it was everything we hoped for and more. Warm, clean, comfortable, eclectic, and full of books of all kinds as well as utterly charming postcards we could not resist buying! The selection of books includes new and old, every category imaginable, and many of them are in English. The service was prompt and very friendly, and the coffee and pastries delicious. Just by coincidence, prior to our trip we read a book called, “How Iceland Changed the World.” I saw a copy in the store and said to the proprietor, “We read this!” She then told us his parents own the store! Icelandair talks about the "Spirit of Iceland;" we felt it in this charming shop. We wish we’d seen this sooner because it’s truly a place you can spend hours. This is the kind of bookstore that makes me wish I traveled with a huge suitcase full of extra space and no weight limits. Maybe next time I’ll ask if they ship!

Friendly and helpful staff. Great selection with many books available in Icelandic, English, and more. Excellent coffee as well. Also had a nice selection of small souvenirs.

Don’t miss this spot!! We stopped in for a quick coffee & restroom, ended up with delicious drinks, homemade sweets (loved the chocolate chip cookie & dark chocolate peanut butter cup), and lots of great books. The woman running the shop answered lots of our questions, background on local lore (The Lady of the Mountain, the Yule Lads), and was just so nice. We all bought a copy of "How Iceland Changed the World."

Stopped by while waiting for the bus and so happy I did. It was such a wholesome and wonderful place! They had a solid selection of books in Icelandic as well as in English. I bought myself a book and carrot cake there (which was so delicious). I wish I got to stay there longer. Thank you for making my day!

A few days ago, I visited this place with my little daughter. We were truly enchanted by how fantastic and cozy the place is, perfect for sipping a coffee while immersing yourself in the wonderful world of books. The service there is 10/10😊👍🏼

Amazing little bookshop, selling both Icelandic and English books. Inside there were 2 tables where you could grab a coffee or truly tasty hot chocolate. One table had a couch and armchairs, the other was a normal table with dining chairs. The gentleman serving us the drinks told us a story of the Icelandic prohibition which was both hilarious and interesting :) super friendly and a cozy place. Well worth the visits. For fellow Brits, how drinks were around £5 so super affordable.
