Behind the Scenes of Prague's Growing Natural Wine Scene - AFAR

"An intimate wine-and-cheese bar in Old Town with patinated walls and a low vaulted ceiling, operating since 2015. Sommelier Roman Novotný pours a range of bottles from the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, and Spain, with the largest portion of the list dedicated to natural and locally produced wines." - Kat Odell

Google
Bokovka is my definition and expectation for a cool wine bar. Atmospheric, it feels like you are retreating from the city, while equally feeling in it. Tucked away in a little courtyard, there is an extensive collection of great bottles and being in good company - chatting with the knowledgeable staff and picking the right wines to try is a fun process. The ethos of the space is refreshingly simple: a curated selection of wines, friendly staff who genuinely want to guide you, and a warm space full of conversations and stories that make you feel cooler for being there. Each recommendation hit the mark for me, but then there’s the unspoken genius of its relationship with Naše Maso, the very well known butcher shop around the corner. We got a couple of meatloaf sandwiches, sat with our wines and talked the drank a few glasses - it was a perfect way to pass some time in perfect company. It’s the kind of place that makes you appreciate being alive in this space and time. The best nights out aren’t always the ones planned, and end up being better beyond your expectations. This was one of those.

Such a cool hidden spot. The wine isn't only quality but you also just get an experience. The atmosphere is lovely.

This wine bar is very hidden cause you've to get through a small arch in a building. There's an internal court and the bar it's located on the ground floor and upstairs, so you can choose between many seats inside and outside. The guys who work here are so prepared in wines and they can easily help you to find the perfect wine for you describing tastes and structures. If you love wine i recommend this place :)

We came with friends and were charged for items not listed like carafe of water or bread. So they give you one bread for two plancha. A very disappointing moment from a famous place that charges you without telling you anything. Not any possibility to discuss it before paying.

It was the best experience during my time in Prague, the people are so friendly and I absolutely loved it. As someone who has had sommelier experience before, I can say that my experience here is one of the best in my Europe trips, I wish I had the time to try more options *Thanks for the song :’)

Google
Super hard to find as its inside the courtyard but once you do it’s fab! It feels like speakeasy place, dark but fab! Great choice of wines and you can get cheese board with it. Lots of seating inside and out and you can sit on windowsills and i just loved it.

Yelp
An exciting wine bar/cellar with a plentiful selection, sommeliers who will let you sample anything, and small snacks for purchase. My friend and I soaked in the vibe on a Tuesday night. It's loud enough inside that you'll have no trouble avoiding being overheard while you spill your personal secrets. Would work as the last stop of the night, or as a stop along the way to somewhere else! I was surprised by how well the salty popcorn set off our house white wines. My traveling companion polished off a glass of sparkling wine, while I downed a chilled, fruity white.

Yelp
Cute wine bar nestled in a neighborhood. We read about the bar in a travel book and wanted to sample Czech wines. We did not have reservations so they told us we could buy a glass of wine and drink it in the courtyard area of the bar. We started chatting with a couple from Germany who also had no reservations and had been asked to go outside. A table opened up soon after so we ordered more wine and a cheese plate and moved to the table with our new friends. The wines were good and the location off the street meant little crowds but I do suggest reservations on Friday and Saturday nights. We had a great experience here, made some friends and now have been invited to visit Oktoberfest in Munich!

Yelp
Excellent wine bar, wide variety, and good service. Staff was helpful and the setting was fantastic. Wish I would have visited more often during my time here.

Yelp
Small eclectic wine bar back off the main road - kind of hard to find. Excellent selection of European wines to choose from by the bottle. Also have tasting of several wines including Czech varieties. Staff is friendly and helpful. Can make up nice boards of cheeses (43) varieties and cured meats to go with the wine. Fun place to go!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing place with cosy atmosphere and a great selection of wines. It is great how they managed to preserve the old look of the place, did almost no changes or repairs and just added a few modern elements in the interior and the result is perfect! When you go out and walk to the toilets upstairs next to which you can find a private cinema you feel like traveling back in time and you realize that it's not about the luxury but about the feeling...and this is just great here!

Yelp
Lovely wine bar with plenty of atmosphere, even without the cheesy movies played in black and white behind the counter. Wasn't as impressed with the wines, but that's not entirely the wine bar's fault, as the fact that wines in this area tend more towards average as opposed to world-class?

Yelp
Stylish place in a beautiful old courtyard with some seating available on the first floor balcony with view of the courtyard. It all has the rundown raw urban vibe that people used to go to Central and Eastern Europe for. Friendly staff, dozens and dozens of wines to choose from.

Yelp
Super cute place. Situated in a dimly lit 1500s brewery cellar is a small cozy wine bar in the old town of Prague. If you are in town for only a few days and want to check it out, you can play it safe by emailing them for reservations(which is what I did). We got the cheese platter and tried a couple of local white/sparkling wines (Prague and Moravia). They had quite a large selection of other european wines too but we opted for something local. They also have high-end sardines which I thought was an interesting menu item.

Yelp
They take advantage of westerners - sold us a bottle that was corked. Paid way too much. Nice atmosphere but the wines were no good - or they just took advantage of us. Not recommended.

Yelp
Tucked away off Dlouha Street, in a courtyard and site of a former 1500s brewery cellar. Superb staff. Ambience galore. Affordable and interesting Czech and other European wine. Low vaulted ceilings and candlelight. Funky cathode chandeliers and radiator-seats with fur blankets. Definite coolness factor without being hip or kitschy. Above all, great wine. Welschrieslings, Blaufrankisch, Gruner Veltliner, Silvaner, Zweigeltrebe and St Laurent. Other local wines include crosses and blends: Mopr, Neronet, Solaris, Palava & Cabernet Moravia. Side emphasis on French wines, some great producers from different regions. You won't be disappointed with the wealth of choices. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. All three employees were helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Found us wines based on our preferences. Allowed us to taste a few things before committing. One staff member even researched the cheeses online to determine if they were pasteurized. Big, big thank you for looking out for us. Yes, I dragged my pregnant wife to a wine bar. Shameful, I know. Local charcuterie, cheeses, awesome bread from Eska and sardines available to nosh. We enjoyed our experience so much, we came back the following night.

Yelp
Beautifully unexpected place!!! the candlelight tables and the old building and the great wine made the night perfect! Try local wines if you can!

Yelp
We stumbled into this wine bar just off the main street tonight. What a nice surprise for an out of town guest! The staff were so nice and helpful. They helped us pick out and try different local wines as well as cheeses. I would give this wine bar 10 stars if I could! Absolutely love this place. I wish I had a neighborhood hangout like this back home in Texas.

Yelp
My new favorite wine bar. Huge selection of wine in the cutest beat down building with candle lit tables everywhere. They also have a large selection of cheese and can create a cheese board out of 50 different types from Italy! We had a Serbia 2008 red wine, it was absolutely fabulous, however they also have many good Czech, Austrian, French, and Italian wines! There is no menu and wine by the glass ranges from 75-250 kc and wine by the bottle can range from 500-1500kc enjoy it while in Prague, you won't regret it!

Yelp
We stumbled upon this gem and I'm so glad we did. What a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL wine cellar. Sitting on the windowsill at Bokovka, snacking on cheese and charcuterie, and sipping impeccable Czech wine with friends and family is something I will never forget.

Yelp
Found this place by accident. Decided to check it out. Amazing atmosphere! Plenty of wine to choose from. Wonderful service. Our server was very sweet and offered us plenty of recommendations and advice for our trip.
