"The spacious lighthouse on the Texas Gulf Coast is perfect for families. Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula feels worlds away from the high energy of nearby Galveston, and activities in these parts skew decidedly calmer: bird-watching, fishing, seashell hunting, and stargazing. Occupying 150 yards of private beachfront with no neighbors on either side, the best little lighthouse in Texas would make for a romantic honeymoon hideaway. But with so much space—up to 12 if you max out on sofa beds—you’ll want to share it. To fully embrace the lighthouse experience, choose the compact queen-bed room, which sits up in the tower itself." - Lyndsey Matthews, Nicholas DeRenzo

I love seeing the Lighthouse when we go down. There have been Christmas lights on it since they started restoring it (when the top came off) It is so cool that it is on some of the top most historical landmarks in Texas. I can't wait to see it when it is done being restored! (I am writing this on 11/27/2024)

Such a beautiful lighthouse on this lil island! It has some very cool history behind it. Wish it was open for tours, I’d love to see the inside and am sure many others would agree. Hopefully one day!! But to anyone visiting Bolivar Peninsula, make sure to get a photo of this!

The light house has an interesting history, with details found on historical markers across the way at the fort park. But the area around the lighthouse seemed unaccessible when I visited. Cool nonetheless!

A very nice and beautiful symbol of the sea to pass by for a photo op right before heading into Galveston Beach.

Was okay. Very nice to look at but not really more than a drive pass.

Yelp
super cool looking light just off the coastal road headed toward Galveston. it's somebody's private property so unless you know them just admire it from a respectful distance and move along :-) this rendition was put up in1872 - the original and storied iron structure from 1852 was rendered in its entirety during the war of northern aggression - and decommissioned some sixty-one years later. the light did what lights do, directing travelers to safe passage. lighting these things well is pretty important and there'd been a few issues in this regard over the years. the last (and best?) lens and reflector are currently in DC at the Smithsonian. Yelp
Built in 1872 and retired in 1933, the current lighthouses is the second structure at the sight. The first one had been built n 1852 but was destroyed during the Civil War so that it could not be used by Union warships. This new lighthouses is a survivor, having made it through the hurricanes of 1900, 1915, Alicia in 1983 and Ike in 2006. It was used as a shelter during some storms, which sounds like an adventure. The lighthouses IS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY and is now privately owned. There is a foundation working to restore and repair the lighthouse. It can be viewed from the road so please don't trespass.
