The Bolton is a family run hotel. I stayed here for two nights on business. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I found that the room I had a little "ordinary" but functional. Plenty of space with a small kitchenette with a small dishwasher, hob and fridge. My room did smell of previous cooking which hit you as soon as you walked in. I liked the bathroom with the large shower cubical and lots of space. WATCHOUT! If you drink the water from the bottles in the fridge which are in light blue plastic containers, you will be charged shy of 8 buck!!! A rip off for water. The bottles label crow on about sustainability, reusability and all the other virtue signals that are supposed to make us feel all fuzzy and fluffy however the hotel are just stretching it slightly with the price... Yes you can drink from the tap, which the hotel like to tell you when you complain about the cost of the bottled water, if thats the case don't sell the water! I've written too much in the subject of the rip off water. The hotel is comfortable , close to the town and the harbour, and I would recommend.

The Bolton is very nice but the atmosphere is a little stuffy. A Porche seemed to be permanently parked in the entrance way, to indicate what I dont know, gave a touch of new-money James Spader as 80s successful stockbroker vibes, someone said its on loan. Valet parking people and receptionist were really lovely. In morning we went to breakfast and although there was a heap of bustling well-dressed staff in an almost empty room no one said good morning or asked us if we would like a coffee etc to break the ice, no coffee mugs either... was all very awkward and could have been more welcoming. The breakfast though was amazing and the highlight of the visit. In the pricey suite we booked there was a woeful lack of extras, and we had more condiments available to us in a very modest motel we stayed in the night before including cookies and a full size bag of coffee grounds, at the Bolton there was not even a complimentary sachet of washing powder for the washing machine which we actually needed to use and couldn't, so a few extras yes would have been welcomed and a nice touch for the price charged. There was not even milk. The thermostat was impossible to operate and the room had very little airflow. A couple of nice light blankets for the bed would be nicer than an enormous yeti blanket too. After reading Pauls feedback, its the little, practical things that were missing amongst the luxury or in little supply - such as milk for coffee, washing powder that was easy to find (it wasn't) or a complimentary welcome snack on arrival after a day travelling that were absent after scouring cupboards and fridge where we found nothing. We shouldn't have to call housekeeping to get milk....

This hotel is fabulous. I had known it had great reviews BUT it exceeded my expectations. The staff are incredibly professional, the location is fantastic, the beds and pillows super comfortable. We stayed in the Bolton Suite as our daughter in her 20s travelled with us. The suite was perfect for us as 3 adults. The valet parking was easy and we had breakfast which was although not a large spread was perfectly cooked and suited us very well. I've travelled for work a bit and this time was a holiday but I would say this would have to be one of the very best accommodations I've ever stayed in. It was soundproof and very quiet (which later stays in our trip we we realised just how quiet the Bolton was). But I particularly want to call out the standard of cleaning. This place is spotless. Absolutely spotless. We were in one day when the young lad came to clean our room and we asked if he would mind if we were there (as we needed to put our feet up). He was lovely BUT I was astounded at just what depth of cleaning he did in the middle of our 3 night stay. This wasnt just a wipeover.. it was what I'd call a deep clean. No wonder the place is spotless. I would absolutely have no hesitation in staying there again... everything about our stay was perfect.

This was a nice room, had a separate living room (great for me because I sleep later than my hubby). The room had a nice kitchenette with a washer/dryer for smaller loads. The bathroom was a good size with a nice shower, towel warmer and a nice deep soaker TUB! |The restaurant here was excellent. We also did breakfast here and had a huge selection to choose from.

Nicely located hotel that purports to be 5 star but lacks in a few key areas. On the positive side the staff at reception and the concierge and valet were friendly and professional. They made us feel welcome. The valet service is quick and efficient. The cleaning staff are great. They do a nice job tidying up the room without disturbing things that shouldn't be. The room itself is nicely appointed with good quality furniture and fittings although I saw signs of poor maintenance for example the tap in the bathroom sink was super stiff and the tiles and grout around the tub were misaligned. The suite itself was nicely sized and the air conditioning worked well. The linen was clean and crisp and the bed was comfortable but the pillows were a bit lumpy. The bedside tables lacked USB charging but the lamps were good. The two TVs were modern but had been prevented from connecting to the internet so Netflix and Prime needed a workaround. I had to use my phone as a hotspot and connect the TV to my phone's internet which was using the hotel's wi-fi. It all worked so I'm not sure who in the hotel's management made the decision not to connect the TVs to the internet directly. The hotel WiFi itself worked great. Another annoying feature was the mini bar. The tiny fridge was completely full of stuff the hotel was trying to sell. I never use stuff in mini bars. I don't snack on junk food and am not tempted by other peoples' choices. I find mini bars to be low rent and annoying. The better hotels have done away with them. The room lacked any complimentary water and the 150ml milk carton in the fridge suggested a milk crisis. To be breakfast is very important so I'll try to be a little more descriptive. In my view the food and service was at the level of a 2 star hotel. The only positive was linen tablecloth and decent cutlery. They didn't offer tea or coffee. We had to make tea ourselves with teabags and tepid water from a thermos flask. I had to ask for hot water because our first cups were not drinkable. The food on offer was even worse. I understand when a smaller establishment does not offer a big spread but it has to be top quality. This was very hit and miss. There was no bircher muesli or overnight oats, just one muesli mix, albeit of reasonable quality, and Weetabix. The cheese, ham and salami on the cold cuts platter lacked taste and texture. The sourdough bread was good and the croissants were OK but only strawberry jam, orange marmalade and Marmite were on offer. The hot food was pretty poor. We asked for an omelette but were told we could only have poached or fried eggs. The bacon was decent but the beans were completely bland and tasteless and seemed like they had come out of a can with a side trip to the microwave. The breakfast suggests that the people who manage this hotel are not quite sure what the hotel is supposed to be or represent. If a hotel wants to be considered in the luxury category it cannot compromise on breakfast. At minimum it needs a selection of artisan breads and pastries, top quality jam, freshly squeezed juice, and top shelf muesli, fruit and cheeses. The same goes for any hot food. Overall we don't regret staying here. It is nice enough and very comfortable and clean and the staff are lovely but it could and should have been better.

The Bolton had a noticeably friendly, personal vibe compared to the usual large chain hotels, but still offered all the features and services you expect. The rooms are large and would be ideal for a longer stay with kitchen and laundry facilities. The swimming pool was a great bonus. I really enjoyed a the light meal at the restaurant and breakfast was lovely. Overall an exceptionally comfortable and pleasant stay, I will definitely return.

This hotel boasts an excellent central location, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the city. We found it an easy walk to Queens Wharf and Lambton Quay, providing quick access to the cable car terminal. Our stay was enjoyable overall. The room was spacious, and the kitchenette proved very useful for preparing our own meals. Our only suggestion for improvement would be to address the bathroom drainage system, as it was leaking out the door. The spa facilities offered a mixed experience. We were lucky enough to have the spa all to ourselves, which was a bonus. While the pool was quite small for swimming laps, we appreciated having it available. The jacuzzi was great, though you do need to continually press the button for the jets to run every 15 minutes. The sauna was a welcome addition, but it was a bit inconvenient as you had to leave the door ajar to avoid getting locked in. A significant area for improvement is the maintenance of the spa area itself. We found used towels strewn all over the place, suggesting a need for more frequent checks and better stocking of fresh towels. Despite the minor issues with the bathroom drainage and spa area upkeep, the fantastic location and comfortable room made for a pleasant stay.

It was an amazing final stop on North Island, we travelled by car from Auckland. Fully equipped room incl washing and drying machine, was a bless. Fully equipped kitchen if you'd like to cook during holiday time. Breakfast has some options however there's no coffee machine or veggie options. It's really close to historical/government city part.

Yelp
This review is for the deluxe high tea only. We started with a selection of whole leaf teas from TWG (Singapore), supposedly only sold only to five star hotels. I selected their signature 1837 Black Tea while my partner tried the Royal Darjeeling and later their South African red tea, Eternal Summer. All of our choices were whole leaf teas with distinctive and complex aromas and taste. We each had a glass of Allan Scott's Cecelia Brut, with fine bubbles, from New Zealand's Marlborough region. On the three tiered tray were savory items including a cheese and bacon scone with an avocado spread, a ham and cheese sandwich and a sausage in a puff pastry. All of the sweets other than the tiramisu were chocolate items. A fruit tart or a scone would have been appreciated. We enjoyed lovely service by a friendly local who was quite engaging and educational about the extensive tea selections available.

Yelp
We had a nice, clean, spacious room for our brief stay here. The in-room iPad Mini was a surprising, useful touch, and the kitchenette -- complete with pots, pans, and dishes -- would have been of use during a longer stay. The staff members we dealt with were excellent and very helpful. Most importantly for us, we had a combination washer/dryer in our room! This was wonderful, although it was smaller and _much_ slower than was useful. (We really couldn't get it to dry anything. But still, we had a fighting chance to wash at least some of our clothes!)

Yelp
I work for a mega hospitality hotel chain so I know big. We have policies and processes to homogenize the stay because consistency is our service byword. So although we gain global brand supremacy we do lose our soul. And this is where a local player such as Bolton comes in. With a professional accommodating staff you don't need local friends. Every service or dining suggestion was spot on. We upgraded to a clean and comfortable apartment suite. Just a few NZ$ more than coach class and double the space and amenities. Small sitting and dining area plus a 2 burner stove with pots, pans and crockery. Even a combi-washer/dryer if you are on a extended trip. 4 fixture bathroom so you can choose shower or soak. Silky smooth bed linens and black out curtains that work. So all is well in your temporary living space Location is close to everything. Wellington is not a large town. You can get to all the in city stuff within a 15-30 minute walk. Loads of great restaurants and museums to fill your day. Take a tour or two and hit Mt. Victoria if the weather is clear and you will rewarded with a 350 degree panorama of Wellington. Bolton is well worth your choice as an accommodation. Forget the big box and stay with some "friends!"

Yelp
1 We booked 14th floor but when we arrived only 13th was available, which is acceptable 2 When we got to the room, we are so disappointed by their bad ventilation system and a building shaded us from views But what made me to rate one star is their VERY unprofessional service. When I finished checking out, they did not find my card was declined at the spot. They said thank you and goodbye. After that I went abroad. A month later, their manager sent me an email said they gonna took their video of me to the police because my card was declined and they called me but I did not answer. I was so shocked they offended and insulted me like that! I feel so disgusted on both their stupid stuff and also their backward system.

Yelp
The Bolton is a very nice hotel, and is in walking distance to all that Wellington has to offer. 100 meters from the botanical gardens, 100 meters from the beehive, and 10 minutes from just about everything else. Rooms are plush, spacious, and inviting. The lobby and the rooms each have free wifi. The gym is decent, and there's a small lap pool, sauna, and jacuzzi in the same room as the gym. The only reason I give three stars and not five is because of the front desk receptionists. Not all of them, but a fair amount, are cold and unwelcoming. As the first people customers see, I think they should be especially welcoming, and in this regard they fell short.

Yelp
Nice hotel. Don't expect a 5 star, but it's comfortable.

Yelp
Very nice hotel in Wellington. They are within walking distance to Cuba Street, Te Papa etc. but it's a longer and stressful walk than we expected. We found our rooms clean and tidy and with a very nice deluxe king size bed. Nicely furnished and the hotel has good atmosphere and design. Service: Parking is 30 NZ dollars and vallet parking. Seems to be reasonable as parking space in Wellington down town is rare and generally quite expensive. In Germany parking in a hotel's garage is up to 20€ as well. I would definitely come here again and recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Excellent staff, comfy rooms (especially the snuggly throw on the bed), free wifis, and a strong menu at the Artisan Restaurant. Good location just downhill from the Botanic Gardens (the hill is pretty steep but) and a quick walk to the CBD.

Yelp
How am I supposed to live without you, Bolton hotel? You are my soul provider. And after a 3 hour ferry ride from the south island, truer words could not have been crooned by Michael himself after sinking into the simple comfort and convenience of the Bolton. While there was nothing extravagant about this business hotel (outside of the Kiwi-themed bed throw blankets, which were out of this world and equally suitable for snuggling next to a fire and going on a bear hunt) it certainly had everything we needed from the necessary (fast, free wifi) to the plush (great bath products and a deep tub). It was one of those "hey, they thought of everything" hotels that makes staying feel more like coming home than entering a soulless stuffy box. I'd absolutely stay again. The staff, the price, the location, and the overall ease from online reso to check-out made it a very positive experience.

Yelp
I stayed here for 2 weeks and really enjoyed my visit. Is it the Intercontinental no it's not but it's still a nice hotel with nice staff. The breakfast in the morning is good, not a ton of stuff to pick from but good. Located right by the Beehive, reasonable walk to Cuba street. I would stay here again.

Yelp
I was there 5 years ago when the hotel was new. Back in then it was so nice and cool. I went back again last week. They are still the same. They need to re new lots of things. The carpets need to be changed. The room style and so on. Its a clean hotel and staffs are so helpful.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel before our ferry ride to the South Island. It's not in the city center - a little off the beaten path but a 10 - 15 minute walk to a big shopping district and restaurants. The rooms were also roomy and so was the bathroom. Also had a nice sitting area in front of the TV. Only trouble we had was getting on the wifi at first but that cleared up. Staff was nice and welcoming. They have a valet or right next store there is an additional self park lot if you are driving. Seems like more of business hotel as you are close to the parliament buildings but that didn't have an impact on how we felt about our stay. If walking around town it's on a level above the main street and up a steeper hill.

Yelp
I have stayed here for business trips since 2012. Rooms are spacious. Staff is very friendly. The Artisan restaurant has excellent food. The lamb rump is wonderful! My one recommendation is that the hotel partner with a local gym, as their fitness center is tiny.

Yelp
Very roomy accommodations with a living room/dining room, small kitchenette, mini washer/dryer, and a LARGE bathroom, as well as a comfortable bed were welcome after a week of traveling. Friendly staff, a tasty breakfast, and a quiet night's sleep.
