15 Best Bars in Melbourne | Condé Nast Traveler

"When Melbourne’s weather is playing nice, there’s no better place to be than Bomba Rooftop, a contemporary bar in Chinatown with sparkling views of the surrounding city buildings and plane trees. The tapas restaurant downstairs inspires the food and drink. Spanish wines dominate the short list; local craft beers and ciders are also popular. Cocktails range from classics (G&Ts) to creative concoctions like the Naked & Boozy, which blends Australian gin with rosé, lychee, grapefruit, and mint." - Carrie Hutchinson

A wonderful dining experience. The food was exceptional, with beautifully balanced flavours, and the service was attentive and genuinely friendly. The restaurant wasn’t overly busy at the time, which made for a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The Amaretto Sour from the bar was outstanding — easily the best I’ve had. We sampled a variety of dishes, including the smoked trout crisp, marrow montadito, croquetas, corn, scallops, lamb ribs, and gambas. We finished with churros and a hazelnut parfait with chocolate, which rounded off the meal perfectly., all of which were excellent, and the desserts were equally impressive. The cheesecake was a clear standout. Special mention to the staff for thoughtfully accommodating my daughter’s nut allergy, which was handled with great care and professionalism. Would definitely come back here again…

I should have written this ages ago - but at least I am geting to it now! We went to Bomba's to celebrate my daughters birthday. I will admit that we were a little indecisive having not been here before and there being so many great sounding dishes to try. We went for the set menu. It was the right choice for us and we simply loved all of it. Scallops, corn, potatoes, beef and so much more. Great dishes with unique flavours all added to a great night. Staff were very attentive and helpful in our menu selection. Atmosphere was great - but some may find it a little noisy. Overall a great night!

**Bombastic Tapas Bar & Rooftop** Bombastic Tapas Bar & Rooftop offers an energetic atmosphere with a variety of well-arranged seating options, including tables of different sizes and a stylish bar area. Although we were seated inside and did not experience the rooftop, making a reservation was seamless, and we were warmly welcomed upon arrival. Our seats near the bar and open kitchen provided an engaging view of the culinary preparation, which enhanced the overall dining experience. Service throughout the evening was attentive and exceptional, and our main dishes were delivered promptly and prepared to a high standard. One concern, however, was observing a chef running his hand through his hair before continuing food preparation. Given the length of his hair, a hairnet or similar precaution would have been more appropriate for maintaining hygiene standards. For dessert, we ordered a sorbet and a cheesecake. While the sorbet was beautifully presented, the cheesecake portion was overly large and its overall presentation could be improved. Despite this, Bombastic Tapas Bar & Rooftop remains a strong recommendation for its vibrant ambiance, excellent service, flavorful dishes, and overall value.

Google
Outstanding dining experience at Bomba Tapas Bar & Rooftop! The service was friendly, attentive, and perfectly paced. We loved every dish — especially the slow-cooked lamb shoulder with anchovy and rosemary, crispy roasted potatoes with aioli, and chargrilled broccolini with romesco. Each plate was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. The team recommended a fantastic local red wine, PaPa, which paired perfectly with the meal. Great atmosphere, delicious food, and genuinely warm hospitality — Bomba is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Spanish tapas done exceptionally well.

I came here twice. First round, with chef's selection which did not leave strong impression. Second round, selected food from the menu and it was so delicious! Recommend to order food separately and not go through chef's selection.

Google
Delicious ! Very good quality, the food arrived very quickly, nice service and everything was excellent. I definitely recommend. My favorite was the corn ribs.

Google
What a great experience! Dined with a group of 4 close friends and nothing was too much trouble at Bomba. Dietaries (celiac & veggie) were catered for with care and the awesome server made great recommendations and was chatty and friendly (sorry can’t remember her name but from the UK and recommended Dear Life TV series on Stan. Hope you have fun at Sovereign Hill). We had the theatre set menu and it was so delicious. Cocktails were exactly as described and price was reasonable. Enjoyed a drink on the rooftop after lunch downstairs which topped off our girls day out perfectly. We will be back.

The servers are v helpful in translating the dishes and the quantities for you. There were limited vegetarian options. I ordered the corn and a sweet potato dish and they both turned out great.

Yelp
Rooftop had great service . The restaurant had bad table service. The waiter was not helpful when asked to accomodate a change in desert to plain chocolate ice cream, which would have made the day for our kid. We got instead a simple 'No' , with no attempt to accomodate our request.

Yelp
We wanted to check mark a rooftop venue for our last stop for the night. As you do when in Melbourne, there can be a lot of choices. This night was all about trying new places, and then we met Bomba. Its technically a rooftop, but can also be technically fully covered. The bar part is under cover, and the sitting area has a retractable roof; kudos to you guys being prepared with Melbourne weather! So when you want to be drinking under a nights sky, depending on the night, you won't really get that here. This can be a good and bad thing. It was a chilly night, so only two of the windows were slid open, and they didn't give off the greatest city view. What you will get however, are good drinks, with suggested cocktails that can be a little cheaper than normal city bars. I had the Garden-something and it was refreshingly light, slightly tart, with cucumber for sure and minty. I also tried the sangria, man it had a tick to it, chocolate bitters and they did not hold back with that brandy either. But hey, for somewhere less crowded, that we were sure to get in and not fight over a table for, with their delicious cocktails, I'd visit you again. And next time, I'd go earlier, maybe make it a starting point versus an ending point. Plus, gotta try those tapas all the other reviewers are boasting about!

Yelp
These guys are on to a winning combo. Inventive cocktails + reasonable prices (when was the last time YOU paid $15 for a beautiful cocktail?) + Spanish snacks + good tunes + outdoor deck in the sun + staff that all have a babe factor of at least 8 = winner.

Yelp
I have been here on a Friday night and also a Wednesday night after work. This place is great on warm sunny days, but gets a bit windy and chilly sometimes. It also tends to get very busy, so if u r looking for a place to sit, you may have a problem. Food isn't to bad, drinks varies.....I have an awesome lemonade, they added something to it that makes my lemonade taste delicious but then next few times I ordered lemonade, its just plan old lemonade from the can. :(

Yelp
Let the elevator take you five floors up, and step out into a gorgeous cocktail bar that stretches into a patio with city views. Around happy hour you'll be hanging with the suits and briefcases crew. At night the lights go dim and the party people come out to play. The one constant is that the cocktails here are some of the very best in the city. Forget about the old (boring) classics... they have an extensive list of in-house designed fancy drinks. I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered. I recommend the New Shoes, though!

Yelp
Great location near the Theater district for B4 or after drinks. Intimate rooftop bar. Interesting and tasty selection of cocktails and the bar tenders know how to mix up a storm! Highly recommended for sunny arvo Aperitivo

Yelp
Bomba Rooftop will take you to new highs of happiness. Throw in a fantastic drinks menu and a teeny tiny tasty tapas menu and you will be smiling all night long. The bar area itself is neatly arranged with ample seating and bathrooms. The bar staff really know how to shake it and make it. Wether that be a beer, bottle of wine or my personal favourite cocktail the Cosmic Al. The tapas menu leads you from one drink to another with ease. Not skip the lamb ribs and the chorizo slider. You'll be sad if you do. The open area has the ability to be closed up and windproof. Not a bad idea being in Melbourne. The gas heaters are subtly placed around to assist the skimpily clad girls that will naturally flock here once words gets out on the good looking bar staff. Bomba Rooftop has just made it into my top 5 bars to go to in Melbourne town.

Yelp
It was a beautiful Autumn night with a slow breeze and the stars were slowly being veiled and unveiled by the clouds. It was one of those nights that made you feel alive and to wax poetic in a rooftop bar with a perfectly made Blood and Sand cocktail. We went there for an after dinner drink, but ended up with 2 because it was so good. We had great service, but better yet, a perfect cocktail on a perfect night! Having said that.... I have a few tips. If you want to go when it's not busy, try Monday - Thursday after 7:00 PM. I don't like going after work because it's standing room only and the service isn't the best. Even on slow nights, you never get the place to your self, but it has a nice vibe. Weekend nights are crazy busy, but here's my formula because I generally want food downstairs too. If you arrive downstairs around 6:45 PM you may get a bar top right away, but if not put your name down and go straight to the rooftop for drinks. They will call you down when a bar top opens up for dinner. This is perfect for me since I can't be bothered (too busy, too lazy, etc.) to call in for a reservation. Yes, the food is excellent!

Yelp
This is the place that all other rooftop bars sound model their business plan off, great food, great price, great cocktail list, great view and finally great staff. Definitely the place to visit if your looking for a real Melbourne rooftop bar. Sydney folk take notes...

Yelp
You know when you go to a place and the music matches the vibe, that matches you and makes everything connect? That is the last two times I have been here. Small, intimate, chill and good tunes.

Yelp
Maybe I just don't get this place, but I went for a few drinks with friends on a Saturday night out and Bomba was just dull. What's this vibe everyone's talking about? Did I miss it? Was I not invited? Yea, its a darkened room with music playing (quite loudly, had to do a lot of nodding and pretend-understanding during conversation) and there was not much space available upstairs. I could have gone to any seedy pub or bar and had the same experience. Waste of an evening, I'm sure if I had walked an extra 100m I could have found anything more interesting than Bomba.

Yelp
This is a cool rooftop. An amazing view of the city. A nice cool, a little bit small, but decent place. The bar is very funky, and the staff working were friendly. Great atmosphere and well displayed. The bar is under roof and then it walks out to the balcony which is the rooftop of the building. Great seating selection. Great for groups of people and meeting people. Well recommended, ill definetly be back here for a drink

Yelp
I have only been here a couple of times and its safe to say ill be making my way back soon enough. First and foremost the way they create so many glorious cocktails is enough reason to come back little own the beautiful views you get whilst indulging. Then you get the best news that they're are super reasonably priced! The Spanish snacks they have to order make you just want to go through the list one by one as each one sounds as good as the next one. Being a rooftop bar its obviously incredible in summer when Melbourne is really showing off how good it looks. Something that I loved about it tho was how cozy and inviting it felt the other night in the middle of winter. It was still super nice view but it was a real winter warmer sort of feeling that not every place knows how to encapsulate. The service of the bar tenders has always been first class, they have always been super friendly, knowledgeable and just plain fun. So next time you want a drink, swing by Bomba it will hit the spot.

Yelp
Look I think I must be missing something or I don't understand the 'Docklands apartment patio' chic happening here? My pal and I who were incredibly famished after a cocktail blitz down the road...headed into Bomba, greeted by a lovely man who offered us a spot either at the bar in the restaurant or roof top for a reduced bar menu to which we decided to smash the latter. We headed up the lift got a spot at the bar straight away and boom kitchen closed!!! Communication is key and would've been nice to be warned that the kitchen would close in the 4 mins it took us upstairs *face palm* So we just smashed through the cocktails hoping a garnish would fill us to no avail! Pretty drunky after all those then zee beers! They were all pretty tasty Service was nice nothing spectacular ..other than not warning of the kitchen closing no complaints. Much better and more interesting rooftops in Melb in my opinion.... but hey!

Yelp
I have been here twice both for a drink either before or after something else. It's an amazing oasis in the concrete jungle that I love. Literally a rooftop garden\ bar. The drinks menu is sophisticated and innovative with the usual suspects and some new (now) favorites of mine. These specialty cocktails are fresh, fruity and at times zesty. Presentation is king with these cocktail connoisseur as their drinks are always dressed to thrill. They also invest heavily in the latest fad of craft beers, so many to choose from they will have something to please the man in your life. I am planning on paying them a longer visit sometime in the near future.

Yelp
Foods are not bad , but I had a very terrible experience in this restaurant tonight. One of the waiter has a very bad manner. So rude! Just no response to the customers

Yelp
OLA SENORITAS E SENORS! I snuck up to Bomba Rooftop while waiting for my table to be ready downstairs at Bomba. It was a kinda cold night for April, so the lovely windows were all closed up, but even for a school night it was busy! Going off! Fun cocktails, fun staff, fun space. Definitely a good holding zone before eating until your stomach hurts downstairs. Bonus: lift to the rooftop, no stairs. That's what I like.

Yelp
This is one of my favourite places in the city, especially on a nice hot day. Naje sur eyou get there early or else you wont be getting a seat. Arguably the best rooftop bar in the CBD, decent beats, decent drinks, burger bar if your peckish (not exactky haute cuisine, but fills a hole, especially after a couple of drinks). I could spend many a hour up here on the roof on a nice day. This place also does a cinema on the roof top, too, I havent tried it out yet but am dying to.

Yelp
went last night table was booked for 5 of us, well cant fault the staff but one of our group had to sit on the end of one of the tall tables which meant they were in the way of bar trafik' , really not a good table for 5 (this was in the downstairs)......so the menu, blimey it was complicated but staff were honest about sizes of tapas, so we avoided them. We ordered the green beans some parma ham, four slim slices errm 5 of us ? good job im not eating meat.......now for the paella , told this would serve 3 people so we ordered the duck one and the seafood and it would take 45 mins ' wow this going to be good I thought. Blimey it was not worth the money or the anticipation, 4 prawns three mussels and bit chopped up bloomin gross looking calimari there was lot more of that,,,,, the depth of the rice was @ 1/4 an inch sooo not worth money, not sure where the duck was either. It was one of the worst things Iv seen , for the wait and money. The rice waa stuck to dish and over cooked..........but yaaaaay sangria was good .....although too much ice ye we know it cuts the volume of drink down in the carafe, we asked for no ice and .....yep still got ice !.

Yelp
spectacular view, amazing vibes. what a fun place to go out for a night to catch up with some friends.
