Yelp
This review is about the sweets and the one man working there. I wish I had checked reviews before giving this place a chance. I don't like giving poor reviews and especially to my Indian peoples but this is too bad to ignore. On top of the fact that I'm now seeing across Yelp and Google, people have had similar reviews for up to 6 years now!! SMH
Other reviews seem to like their food, so if you're not good at making sweets - don't bother and just serve food.
One of the gentlemen working there was very kind (black apron), smiling, friendly and inviting. I used their bathroom and the sweets looked colorful and good through the window. We felt bad not giving them business since he was kind about me using the facilities and there was only 1 customer in there, seemed not very busy for a Friday early evening. We decided to pick up our sweets on our way out of Artesia, as we had just arrived, so I let him know we'd come back.
A few hours later we did and that man wasn't there but another man was with glasses (per other reviews I'm assuming he's the owner) he was not friendly, at all. He wouldn't smile, didn't say much, didn't pay attention to what I was saying as he got our sweet order TOTALLY wrong which I realized after coming home, I asked for 1 or something and he gave 2, I asked for 2 of something he gave one, he didn't confirm how many jalabees and just put a bunch in the box, same with another item I asked to try a few of the little balls and he filled 1/4 of the box with them. He just did what he wanted and charged some arbitrary number. There was no itemized receipt, there wasn't a way to see or verify how much each item was, the box is weighed but each item has it's own pricing per weight (ie: jalabee $7.99/pound, the other one that looked like it says $12.99/pound on the menu on the wall and that's insane it's that much.)
It was totally overpriced but the WORST part is THE SWEETS ARE NOT EDIBLE. They were all super hard, lacking any flavor, dried out and clearly extremely old - jalebees, the other similiar looking jalabee, milk sweets - all of them. The gulumb jaman with the cream along the center is completely rotten, tasted like spoiled milk. Had to throw "$30" worth of sweets in the garbage.
It's no wonder their place is pretty empty and although I wanted to be supportive by giving them our business, I will never again and I cannot recommend them to others.
