I am offering my experience here in hopes that the owners/clerks will respond with concern, compassion, and humility.
I am a woman of color and I was watched closely and followed by one of the store clerks. I was perusing the shop, touching items, and placing them back in their place. As I made my way to the back of the store, the clerk started following and fixing the things I touched. I began to test my observation by picking up items (pencil cases, shirts, stuffed animals) and placing them back as I found them. Without fail, the clerk followed closely behind and re-fixed the items I had just touched. While this was happening, another white woman began walking behind us, feeling and picking up items. However, the clerk only readjusted the things I touched. I experienced a type of racial micro-aggression, whether intentional or unintentional. It has been a couple of months since this incident, but it still bothers me. As difficult as it is to receive a criticism like this, my hope in sharing this review is that the owners/clerks reflect on their biases and strive to improve.
