Bonansa Country Hotel

"How did it strike you on arrival?“Don’t judge a book by its cover,” we get. “Don’t judge a hotel by the herd of sheep on the way in,” is...more challenging. Yet that was the mission of journalists Mercè Gili and Javier Ricou—to revamp the image and caliber of mountain accommodation. Even remote, sheep-filled villages in the Pyrenees. What they’ve created is all the right kinds of surprising. The rustic stonework of a village property remains, yet the hotel is simultaneously sleek, modern and contemporary: all luxe wooden panels and a Scandi-inspired spa. Though, anyone else wondering where that sheepskin rug in reception came from? What’s the crowd like?Urban escapists. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. There are three tiers of rooms: six superior doubles, one junior suite, and one suite. All have mountain views, but the suites (unsurprisingly) up the game. The top dog with a private hot tub, though the junior suite wins with a skywards view that lets you watch the stars as you lay in bed. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Dream-inducing—they make it easy to disconnect. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Yes, it’s all about the little touches that you never have time to sort at home: a stash of magazines, a well-stocked basket of fruit. Though, if we got greedy, the log-burning stove downstairs is what we’d really like to beam back to our place. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Lush robes and access to an actual spa—complete with sauna and swimming pool jets. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Strong as an ox. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. There’s a GastroBar with eats and liquid treats (wine, cava, champagne). What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The tranquility is priceless. Bottom line: worth it, and why?A must for anyone who can’t remember the last time they saw every single star in the night sky. Maybe the sheep had it right after all."

This was a diamond in the mountains. The room and grounds are very clean and well maintained. The hotel has breakfast and dinner which we were very happy to utilize. The food was delicious and the staff/owners were very friendly and made us feel like we were home. I loved walking around the small town and there is wonderful hiking all around the area. Very quiet and great stargazing.||A great bonus was seeing the sheep being herded in the pastures around the town.

This place is simply amazing. The owners are very kind. The spa area and the rooms are clean and cozy. They cooked us an amazing dinner with regional ingredients of extremely high quality and they really know how to cook. Expect super high level food if you come here.

This hotel is ideally situated for exploring the Pyrenees, with many walks starting in the village. The scenery is spectacular and there are lots of sights to see within about 30 minutes of the property. There are enough places to visit to keep you busy for at least a week. The rooms are large and spacious, with a comfortable bed. There are nice toiletries. The owners and staff are warm, friendly and welcoming and take time to talk to each and every guest. There is a wonderful log burner in the centre of the lounge area. The meals and drinks represented good value for money with a consistent high quality. We would certainly stay here again if in the area.||We would prefer more light in our room.||The menu could be more varied, but we understand that in a small hotel it is tough to have a large variety. That said, we were happy with our meal choices and quality of food and wine. There is one other bar open in the village, but only with restricted daytime opening. You need to travel 15 minutes by car to El Pont De Suert for a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants.

The other T A reviews were right- this is just superb. A spacious, modern and stylish boutique hotel in a very quiet place (Bonansa, pop 80). The service and standard excellent from start to finish. We were the only guests so Merce put us in the suite which was a lovely room. Nothing was too much trouble. The chef was cooking just for us which gave a warm feeling of being in someone's home. The food was outstanding: local food prepared with care and presented simply and well. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. Stay if you're in the area, or even go out of your way to visit.

What a wonderful hotel, inviting, relaxing, beautifully decorated, and sparkling clean. We stayed 2 nights while hiking at Aigüestortes i Estany of Saint Maurici National Park. You could feel the staff's loving hands, maintaining it and wants you to feel comfortably at home while vacationing in these beautiful Pyrenees mountain. Big rooms, comfortable king bed and great view.||Javier and Alexandra are great hosts, attentive to your every need. Highly recommended.
