Interesting and tasty appetizers. Woodear mushroom salad was tart and refreshing, one of the most interesting take on corn ribs - beautiful and lightly fried with a delicious jalapeno crema sauce, and the fried cauliflower had a warmth from the unique spice blend and a perfectly light batter. Drinks were a bit pricey, but service was great!

Came here for Happy Hour but didn’t realize it was only from Monday to Friday so that’s a note to make known! So we were actually there for brunch which was great and it was very chill since it was the end of the brunch service. We had some cocktails and split the chicken and waffles. I appreciated that it came with a side of creamy cucumber salad too :) I know the waffles at the dinner service are cheesy and I think that would be so good with the gochujang honey fried chicken. Everything was really yummy though 🌟

I came here for lunch, unfortunately it has a different menu than dinner so I wasn't able to try certain dishes. Shared between 2 people: - llapingacho taiyaki $9 - only 2 fishies?? - scallop aguachile $19 - so unique! Great contrast of textures with the jellyfish vs. the crispy plantain chips - yuca fries $8 - the serving size was again disappointingly small; the aji verde sauce was DELICIOUS - Korean fried chicken sandos $18 (doesn't come with a side): favourite item, wasn't too spicy but so flavourful with the gochujang honey butter glaze and the citrusy slaw. It held up really well even though it was THICC Overall, everything was really flavourful, but a bit expensive/value problem on the smaller items. Also, nothing on the brunch menu was calling to me but maybe it'll surprise you once you taste it? The decor was really retro-cool, and great audio system. Service was fine.

VENT: This is a flauta. I make flautas on the regular- I once made 50+ for under $25 for a birthday party. So I see flautas on a menu (plural!!) and I think okay cool, let me treat myself. Tell me why they brought out one sad little flauta drowning in a cabbage avalanche for FOURTEEN dollars!! This is exactly why I’m losing my mind over food prices lately. These trendy fusion spots love slapping latin dishes on the menu like they invented culture, and then they charge ridiculous prices for something that costs literal cents to make. Cost of living is brutal already, and now I’m paying $14 for one flauta?? Be serious. There should at least be 3 flautas on this plate for that price. As a Latina, I’m still so annoyed about it. Pretending this is normal, NO. Absolutely not.

I had an amazing meal last night. We didn’t have a reservation but we were enticed by the allure of the shady bodega vibe and as I looked in, it looked like the type of lounge room you’d see in a curling arena. The menu was great, server was super friendly and helpful. Honestly it’s giving such true Toronto vibes that’s so rare, it was really an all around great experience. I’m excited to see how this place blossoms.

Had a good time during dinner service as we were celebrating my friends graduation. The weight staff were extremely kind and recommended a few dishes. We had a few apps as well as entrées. I really like the taiyaki and scallops. Will definitely be back !!

Tteokbokki de Choclo AMAZING, so yummy I could’ve order another one. Scallop aguachile was done to perfection, great combination. Taiyaki wasn’t the greatest, I tasted more potato than cheese, and it could use some more seasoning. As well as the portion is so small, bring me four. Drinks were okay, caracoco really good and sweet. Overall, I’d say it is a REALLY GOOD place to enjoy a well done Ecuadorian and Korean fusion. Staff was okay, could be more friendly and they should be more aware of people coming in to sit them down!

One of the most unique and delicious meals I've had in a long time! I was the most excited for the teokkboki de choclo and the papusa, and I wasn't disappointed. The papusa didn't make it long enough to take a pic. The atmosphere is interesting and inviting, and it got busy quick. Our servers Alexander and Amelia were kind and attentive, and made the whole experience that much enjoyable. I'll be dreaming about the rhubarb pie until my next visit. Thank you! :)

This isn't just for breakfast and brunch; it's also a great dinner spot! When you first enter, it looks like a functioning convenience store; keep walking and you'll be transported to a place unlike anything else on Ossington. With a wood-paneled interior with Tiffany lamps and 90s basketball posters, it looks neither Ecuadorian nor Korean, but it's super charming all the same. Stand-out dishes: -fried sea bass (the spices on the breading made us think of Doritos) -tteokbokki de choclo (a truly shareable dish) -gochu glaze wings (the perfect blend of sweet and savoury) Fun fact: the owners also run a below-ground bar in the back-- if you like fancy cocktails in a pretty, loud, windowless room that feels like a secret, check out Bowie after your dinner!

Bonito's located along the Ossington Strip closer to Dundas St W. is an all day Korean-Ecuadorian diner serving up brunch on the weekends and dinner at night (they'll have lunch service soon as well!). Upon entering the space, you actually are inside a convenience store where the restaurant is just past the door towards the back of the space. The restaurant dining space is nostalgic, like you've gone back in time to a 90's with old sports games playing on the tv screens and variety knick knacks throughout. The space also has a DJ booth as well and is great for groups as well as solo diners (at the bar). The kitchen is an open concept kitchen where you can peek into the cooking action if you sit close enough. The dinner and late night menu boasts sharable plates (or not) and the brunch menu has classics with a twist. I've only gone for brunch a few times so this review will only comment on brunch. Service wise, during peak times the staff can get quite busy, however, service is as expected. During non-peak times the service is fast and efficient. Brunch items wise I've tried these items: - Bonito's breakfast plate ($23- 2 eggs sunny side up, beans, slaw, choice of toast or rice & choice of Szechuan sausage, slab bacon, gravlax or mushroom) - I opted for the side of rice and the Szechuan sausage. - Avocado toast ($15 - Dear Grain sourdough, vegan XO sauce) - Side of bacon ($7 - thick cut, slab bacon) The Bonito's breakfast plate is tasty however, I think they forgot my side of beans. The rice is cooked well and the Szechuan sausage is unique and delicious, I especially love the side of mustard it comes with (so deliciously spicy). The avocado toast may seem basic but it is anything but. The vegan XO sauce works extremely well with the creaminess of the avocado. The topping of the cilantro (and I don't even like cilantro) works in harmony together. The Dear Grain sourdough is the best vehicle for the avocado, perfectly toasted. Lastly, the bacon is great and comes with a side of that delicious mustard and slaw (which helps to balance out the greasiness). Overall, I've enjoyed my dishes and time at Bonito's. A welcoming addition to the Ossington Strip. Love how it is a casual diner perfect for a quick bite or a place to chill with friends. Definitely want to return to try their dinner menu as well as their upcoming lunch menu!

The ambiance is excellent, perfect for place for a date. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Now the food, consider it an elevated bar with food. Served in bar style baskets, inspired by Korean roots. However, it's mostly fried food. Now, with a drink that's great. Sober, not so much. They do have great sandwiches. And a few dishes I'll highlight in the photos. Vibe 5/5, amazing spot. Food 4.5/5. Come for the cool entrance, stay for the great vibe (and drinks).

My boyfriend took me to bonito's as a surprise and boy was i surprised! From the outside I thought it was simply a convenience store but the back reveals a restaurant with a lovely interior. Our server was super knowledgeable and answered all our questions. She also gave us plenty of suggestions. The food was all tapas style where we got several plates to try and share. Everything we had was amazing and so unique. The blend of Latin and Asian flavours were phenomenal. My boyfriend and my favourite was the charred maitake. Trying to explain the flavours would do the dish absolutely no justice. You have to try it for yourself. We also got the hamachi ceviche which wasn't our favourite because of the cold icey fish but was delicious nonetheless. The tteokbokki de choclo was like a mac and cheese version of tteokbokki, really good but definitely felt like too much after we had a good amount, probably because we were getting full. We also had the llapinacho taiyaki which was amazing. For drinks we had the caracoco which was phenomenal mickey's highball which was super fresh and yummy. This place is a must visit!

I was looking forward to the New restaurant because I'm a fan of the owner's 2 other ones. The savoury taiyaki was pretty good, cripsy and tasty. The scallops aguachile was average, not enough zest or flavour. The fried fish was also not very overwhelming, especially for the price point. I was hoping to try the stuffed wings advertised but it was not on the menu, they had regular wings, too bad.
