Piri Piri chicken at its best.

Chicken at Bonjardim Travessa de Santo Antão 11: Lisbon is famous for its roasted chicken and this place, too, came highly recommended by friends. The chicken was extraordinary. The service less so. As with other touristic places in the dead center of town, Bonjardim loads your table with croquettes, cheese, bread, butter, and other things you didn’t order. You are then charged for what you consume. We were already warned of this practice, which added €10 to our bill. Fine. When I pointed out they had overcharged us for these items, based on the prices listed on their own menu, they got very loud and indignant. One server was particularly abusive. I handled the situation like a lady almost had to fight the guy. Avoid this trap.

Incredible chicken - probably the best we’ve ever had! Great value as well. Very enjoyable experience. You do have to try hard to catch the attention of the staff, but they are so kind and know many languages. Highly recommend!

I read the reviews about the people not being as kind and we definitely experienced it. We waited in line almost 20 minutes which is less than we expected. There were many people getting up and leaving and they would not sit us or the few groups in front of us for a while. Once we sat one of the waiters not ours just one sitting people literally threw the plates and silverware down. I was trying to be overly nice hoping that would make him ease up a bit but nope he was doing it to almost every table and even kind of disregarding his colleagues. My boyfriend and I laughed it off because we read the reviews and were prepared but for those that are unsuspecting it’s going to be off putting. Other than the service the chicken was very moist and delicious we also got mixed salad and the Brazilian rice all were good. Definitely would recommend. This place could possibly be 5 stars if it wasn’t for Mr. grumpy Pants.

Must must must eat here without a doubt. The chicken was incredible we are craving this weeks later, it was by far the best Portuguese chicken we had our whole time in Portugal. Juicy and such generous portions of chicken. The salad was nice and the chips were also very good. Chicken chips and salad were all gluten free!!

Google
Awesome spit-roasted chicken - definitely must try if you are in Lisbon! The chicken was grilled to perfection and fall-off-the-bone. The staff was also quite nice, and explained the portions and how we should have the chicken with the peri-peri oil.

Google
The chicken thigh was tender but the breast was dry. The skin was heavily seasoned with salt which made it unpleasant for the palate. 😬 Each portion was quite small, lucky we also ordered Chicken Broth and Codfish Cake for starters. Codfish Cake was probably the highlight of the whole meal. 😏 Service was slow due to lack of English speaking staff. We waited 10 min to settle the bill while watching the staff running around like a headless chook! 😛

Following all the hype on social media, we had to give this place a try. The chicken was really delicious, especially when paired with the chilli oil. It was literally "fall off the bone" For starters, we tried the cod fritters, which were so crunchy and super tasty! There was a line when we got there however it moved pretty quickly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Google
Long queue. Waited around 15-20mins. Salty and oily salad. Freshly cooked fries but plasticky. Roasted chicken is flavorful yet a bit small. Piri piri sauce mild (im. asian). Server did not say a word apart from taking my order. Conclusion: Overhyped. I guess i've paid for the experience + the youtuber who recommended it. Will i come back again?Definitely no.

2 things really stood out here. 1. The food was amazing, some of the best chicken and rice I’ve ever had. 2. The service. The (who we presumed to be) owner was a fantastic host, made conversation with us the whole time, and was super generous. He was super friendly and happy to have us stay past his closing time to finish eating, and was extremely grateful for our generosity around ensuring we weren’t overstaying. Would 100% return anytime I’m in Lisbon. Also was very affordable! I wish I had pictures of the chicken but I don’t!

Yelp
Pretty decent queue (20-25m) to get in, but def well worth it once we got inside. - Chicken soup (with rice & liver bits) is pretty bomb for €2. - Piri Piri Chicken was excellent, esp w rice & killer sauce. - Grilled Prawns are a hard pass. Don't bother. Came back a second time; however, this time around 430pm (between lunch & dinner hours) and there was zero queue. Unfortunately, the chicken soup wasn't available but everything else was. We also tried the mixed salad (good) and pork dish (comes w fries & potatoes) which I found to be really salty and not nearly as tasty as the frango.

Yelp
We loved this place so much we went back twice The roast chicken on a spit has spices and crispness that make it delectable. The side salad is flavourful and the French fries or rice are both good (I pored the juice from the chicken on the rice) You can have a half bottle or wine or full. I love that there are half bottles. The waiter was extra friendly and funny. It was like having a meal with family. Would definitely repeat visits in the future

Yelp
Enjoyed the patio seating - although not much of a view, the seating was comfortable! Since they are now for their chicken, we ordered a double platter with delicious sides. All food was on the salty side, but we enjoyed it! The chicken was juicy and tender - and we received multiple big pieces. The peri-peri sauce also added a bit of spice. The french fries were crispy and mcdonald's-like - so we loved those! The salad was fresh and the oil-based dressing was good! Also very much enjoyed the cream of spinach - it was a large portion! Lastly, can't forget about a tall Sagres to wash it down! Staff was friendly and helped us order!

Yelp
The food was great! Highly recommend the chicken. The spinach appetizer was a pleasant surprise. We also ordered the fish which was flaky and well cooked. As Always, double check your bill as we were charged for an item that we didn't order. This was corrected for us with no issues.

Yelp
I am from the USA and an elite Yelper. First time in Lisbon and at Bonjardim. The place is awesome. Inside outside and upstairs seating. Service and ambiance were great. We ordered the chicken salad and fries with half lit. Of red wine and the whole bill was under 30 euros. The chicken with the peri peri sauce was delicious and so tasty. The place was full and some folks waited few minutes. This spot is fantastic. Don't listen to the so so reviews and go judge for yourself. Enjoy.

Yelp
Bonjardim is known for their spit-roasted chicken with piri-piri sauce. My sister is actually the one who had it bookmarked for this family vacation and she picked a good spot! Our party of 6 came on a Thursday for a super late lunch or super early dinner (?) at around 4:30. We had a big breakfast but didn't have lunch since we just arrived from Porto on a 3-hour train ride. We were still planning to eat dinner later so we just ordered something to share. We ordered the chicken, some salad, and rice, which was a good amount for each of us to just try, and to hold us over for dinner. The chicken was flavorful and tender, even the white meat. But the star of the show was the peri-peri sauce that they keep at each table. It reminds me more of a chili oil more than a sauce, but it really enhances the flavor of the chicken. Be careful though, because it does have a good amount of kick to it. I'm glad we got to try Bonjardim but also kind of wish we had the stomach space and time in Lisbon to have a full meal there.

Yelp
Despite seeing many reviews about the restaurant establishment discriminating against Asians, I was recommended this restaurant by quite a few friends in the states for their chicken so came acknowledging there may be some prejudice I would just simply endure. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't experience anything of the like, perhaps it was my white husband that protected me but overall I didn't experience any racist comments or overall rudeness. We ordered the rotisserie chicken, grilled prawns, and rice. I was really excited to have the chicken with the renowned Piri Piri sauce but didn't see it on the menu. Assuming it would just come out with the dish I wasn't too worried since so many other Yelpers said they had it here. The Grilled Prawns came out first & they were AMAZING! Soo delicious and grilled/seasoned perfectly! It went well with the complimentary bread so you can enjoy all of the amazing sauce it was cooked with. Next we had the chicken and rice, the chicken was very well seasoned with a deliciously crisp exterior. The chicken breast was a bit on the dry side which would have been great with Piri Piri had we had some... not sure if you need to ask for it specifically? But we were to shy too say anything. All was going really well until my last piece of chicken where I literally found a sticker still attached to my chicken.. it really grossed me out and made me question how well the chicken was cleaned and prepared. That was the end of the meal for me.

Yelp
Love this place. EVERYTHING was delicious. The service was great and the ambiance is just what you're looking for in a restaurant in Lisbon. ! Can't go wrong with the fish or chicken. My family said it's the best rotisserie chicken they've ever had. I had the Hake and it was delicious. My daughter had the mushroom pasta and really liked it.

Yelp
Exactly what I wanted it to be. Old world throw back that does simple things but does them the best! And their Piri Piri sauce should be bottled and sold. Service was stellar. Waiters are pleasant and don't hurry you out.

Yelp
Despite the wait times, we were seated promptly upstairs and was greeted by the waiter immediately. He was super bubbly, friendly and kind I loved his personality. We ordered the chicken dinner of course for 2 and a side of fries and salad. We LOVED the food. The chicken was delicious and it was not dry whatsoever. This is literally a hidden gem and I absolutely recommend people to come here for a delicious but filling dinner.

Yelp
aw this place recommended multiple times while researching food for Lisbon & I now understand why! The location isn't super convenient (not near many things we wanted to see) but for food made up for it! To drink we of course had to get some beer (Sagres) which was cheap & the medium was pretty large! We ordered the chicken (what they're known for!) which was super tender & juicy! The chicken itself was not tough at all and the chicken skin was seasoned nicely with flaky salt. The peri-peri sauce that you could could add to the chicken had a nice spicy flavor! As sides we ordered the mixed salad, fries, and the cream of spinach! The fries came as a large portion & were super solid (although I wish they had ketchup to dip them in). The salad was dressed nicely in an oil-based dressing and the variety/amount of the toppings was super good (onion, tomato, carrots!). The cream of spinach was also a nice dish to try and had a nice spinach flavor without the creaminess ruining the vegetable-taste. Service was super fast and we didn't have to wait long for a table!

Yelp
If you've ever had roasted chicken, well that's their main dish. The chicken was flavorful and juicy! The service was great while I ate but waiting for the bill and then waiting to pay the bill took way too long. This place has 2 floors and a small dining area. There was line outside, however, the wait wasn't very long. If you're wanting some good, roasted chicken, this seems to be the only place.

Yelp
I didn't want to leave Portugal without having piri piri chicken. I saw a few tables outside where people were seated and assumed the restaurant was open. When I walked inside, all the workers were eating lunch, and I was told they open at noon which was only 10 more minutes. So I took a seat at a table outside. I ordered the half chicken with fries and a small beer with bottled water. The chicken was well seasoned. Slightly overcooked but with the help of piri piri sauce, it was quite tasty. The fries were thin crisp and fresh. Glad I got there early since the place was packed by the time I was finished with lunch. Service was friendly and attentive.

Yelp
We got the grelhada and the chicken. Both great but the fish was our favorite. Rich, buttery lemon flavor. Nice ambiance on the terrace and a great priced meal.

Yelp
Honestly after seeing so many reviews and videos about this place I had such high expectation. I'll say the expectations didn't meet the standards. The sauce was basically chili oil water- spicy, but I was expecting more of a punch. As for the chicken , it honestly wasn't super juicy. the inside tasted dried out and the outside skin didn't have much crisp or flavor to it. Was it a decent piece of chicken? Yes. Was it anything unique or outstanding? No.

Yelp
Restaurante Bonjardim I heard a lot of good things about Restaurante Bonjardim so it was certainly on my list of places to try during my trip to Lisbon. My experience was mixed, while the food tasted great, everything else was shockingly bad. Even outside of meal times, this place always seems to be busy, with people queuing outside, upon entering the queue I was not greeted or even acknowledged by a staff member and had no idea how long the wait was. After I was sat down by a server, I was not given any choice but to sit outside. The service as a whole was bad, after being forced to sit outside, we were only given one menu between two people, it felt like the waiter had already decided for us what we were going to order. We opted for the chicken, and went for the fries and rice as a side, after ordering I was originally confused at how he'd put the order through, in the end, he placed an order of a whole chicken with the sides, although this wasn't clear at the point of ordering or the menu. I was told that this was gluten-free, but again the explain was brief and fast to the point if I hadn't have heard good things from fellow coeliacs, I would have been highly suspicious. I was also very confused at the fact there is no peri-peri chicken dish listed on the menu despite it being associated with Portuguese cuisine and mentioned in a large number of reviews, it was only at the end of my meal that I realised it was actually in a sauce on every table, however my table was the only one in the entire restaurant which didn't seem to have it - this is because the waiter split my table with another party before sitting us down, with no mention of their iconic sauce. For drinks, my guest ordered a Diet Cola, and I opted for water, my friend's drink was served with a salad (which we didn't order and the waiter was carelessly offering to multiple tables walking around like a headless rat), they forgot about my water and even after reminding them twice it never turned up at my table until I had to literally get up, go inside and get it myself. The food was served very quickly, but again before I could even ask for my water which had still not turned up, or any sauces, the staff member had gone which led to me having to go inside to finally get my water and the sauces. The food was VERY good, although due to the temperature being warm at best and how fast it was served, I would suspect that they prepare the chickens in advance and don't make them or even finish cooking them fresh to order, while the chips were hot, the rice was also lukewarm at best, despite this the rice had a sickness which I really liked and the chicken had great flavours and was juicy, as was the skin. I was annoyed to have been bothered on three occasions by people asking for money during my experience here, one was a person begging for money using photos of their children to diners at tables and queuing for a table, and another was a busker who randomly started singing before approaching each table for money, before a sunglasses salesman approached me at the end. While I appreciate this isn't fully in the restaurant's control, the staff knowingly let this happen on multiple occasions and just watched, and it left me feeling so uncomfortable at myself (and other diners) being harassed. 2* - I really want to rate this higher as the food, despite a couple of small issues is VERY good but the service is awful, and to top it all off, despite tipping not being customary in Portugal or most of Europe as a whole, staff were persistent and passive-aggressive in regards to expecting tips despite delivering the worst service I have had in a restaurant in a long time.

Yelp
Hours after having a delicious lunch at Restaurante Pinoquio (please reference my review if you're interested), my wife and I were looking for a dinner establishment. After conducting a Yelp search (I remember the days when Yelp was not international, I'm so grateful that has changed), we found an establishment called Restaurante Bonjardim that specializes in split-roasted (rotisserie) chicken. Upon finding the restaurant, we quickly stood in the growing line. 30 minutes later we were being ushered by an employee to a table. We ordered a whole split-roast frango (chicken) to share, a large order of fries, and a bottle of white wine. Less than five minutes later the chicken and fries were being delivered to our table. As promised by the many reviews on multiple food review sites, the chicken was absolutely delightful. Yes this chicken is not exclusive to Portugal; however, I will say that it has been a long time since I have had a chicken so moist with sauce dripping off of it that deserves a review in itself. I tried to remain classy and adhere to respectability politics (just kidding!), but I couldn't resist licking my fingers (this is not the meal that you want to consume on a first date)! However, the fries were dry; therefore, not living up to the hype that I saw in some reviews. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to enjoy a simple, yet delicious meal...don't forget to add a generous amount of Piri-Piri hot sauce to the chicken-you'll thank me later!

Yelp
Got the piri piri chicken and while we were so excited to come here during our Lisbon trip, we weren't blown away. It wasn't bad at all - meat was tender, chicken was perfectly crispy and delicious but it was just that - chicken. Also got their pastel de bacalhau which was amazing. Service was super quick and attentive but we were also the first to arrive at opening. This place may be a bit overhyped but I do not want to speak for the rest of the menu which we did not try. Would still suggest coming here to try it out (but I'd probably order literally anything other than the piri piri chicken). Obrigada!!!

Yelp
We were in Portugal on vacation and my father in law really wanted some peri peri chicken. I looked up some places online and this one had the best reviews. We decided to go here and it was awesome. If you want peri peri chicken this is the spot to get it at! My father in law said it was the same place that he remembered going to 33 years prior and he absolutely loved it! Gotta check it out, great service and great food!
google avatar

Yelp
Yum! You have to get the Piri Piri chicken, fries and salad. Sit outside, order a cold beer, ask for additional piri piri oil to slather your fries and chicken with and enjoy a little taste of salty heaven. They also have a take out window. This was so good we came twice, one for lunch and another day for an early dinner. Awesome service. Once we get back to the US I'm making this at home. It was that tasty .
google avatar

Cin C.

Yelp
We can't believe we almost forgot to get some real Peri-Peri chicken, but thankfully remember on our last meal in Lisbon. Menu is simple and also translated to English for ease of use. We got the chicken broth, 1/2 roasted chicken, salad and cream spinach to share between two people. Highly recommend the chicken broth, so light and clean but delicious. The roasted chicken is excellent if a little salty, but goes so well with the peri peri sauce (oil?) that is scatted on the different tables. Glad we could try the authentic thing!

Yelp
4.5! This was the first ever piri-piri chicken restaurant I've been to in Lisbon two years ago. It may look like a tourist trap but as I've told my fiance, "let their chicken do the talking." We ordered the whole chicken with fries and Brazilian rice. Customer service here is amazing that they even serve you on your plate and pour the jus on your chicken for that extra flavor! We love how soft, flavorful, juicy, and salty the chicken here is. I'm salivating just by typing this! I also love the salty thin-cut fries. I'm not the biggest fan of the Brazilian rice but it still did the job as the vessel for the protein. They closed for a while last year and I'm happy to see they have reopened!
google avatar

Phylicia H.

Yelp
Yes, yes, yes! A ton of tourists visit but a lot of locals are also dining here. The chicken is really amazing and cooked to perfection. It was juicy, tender and the piri piri sauce topped it off. The fries were addicting as well. I can't wait to return and eat more. The menu has multiple languages, waiters speaks English, friendly and fast service, free wifi, and delicious food.
google avatar

Gladys Y.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Portuguese food this is the place to get that - Piri Piri Chicken! The roasted chicken is well seasoned and moist and when you add the Piri Piri sauce it is delicious! The Piri Piri sauce is oil based and has the right amount of spiciness and kick that adds to the chicken! Paired with a fresh tossed salad and white wine makes the meal perfect! Ambiance -10/10, Service -10/10

Yelp
Pro-tip: Sit outside to enjoy even more, unless you cannot tolerate smokers. Taste: 5* Price: 4* Ambience: 3* Service: 5* Great piri piri chicken place. You order the roast3d chicken and then ask for the piri piri sauce. Order some French fries to accompany along with some wine and you are good to go. The chicken was well seasoned, succulent and tasty. The sauce put it over the top. We drizzled piri piri sauce on our fries and chicken. Delicious.

Yelp
This restaurant has been around since forever. My grandparents and parents came here and now I do when I visit Lisbon. The food is genuine, the neighborhood is typical Lisboa and the service is stellar. Vale a pena - um tesouro na cidade com ambiente agradável. Parabens!
google avatar

Ally W.

Yelp
We had a great lunch here. The rotisserie chicken is seasoned well, very tender, and with crispy skin. The piri-piri sauce is very spicy, but in a delicious way. Pour a little bit of the sauce in your plate and lightly dip the chicken in it. Don't go overboard or else it will burn your throat! The creamed spinach is a good side to go with the chicken, as it tames the heat. This was like Portuguese comfort food to me.

Mark H.

Yelp
The food was decent and the skin on the spit fire chicken was delicious. Great quiet area and atmosphere. The one thing that took off the stars was the forced tip at the end. The server rounded up a few euro and asked if that amount was ok (since I don't think the machines normally leave room for a tip). I don't like tipping as a practice-- and people shouldn't encourage it. I'm too introverted to have said to remove the tip so I paid. Really took away from the experience.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is prepared simply and is simply amazing. The breakfast omelette is wonderful with the roasted apple and cheese. For dinner, the chicken followed by apple cake with cream. The staff is prompt and friendly, and the sidewalk cafe ambiance is perfect. Let me put it this way - at other restaurants there is someone asking you to come in, but not here. They are off the beaten path, yet always busy. That says something! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Les K.

Yelp
Great rotisserie chicken and chips! Perfect simple and reasonably priced meal. Highly recommend! Service prompt and professional.
google avatar

Chengru L.

Yelp
I'd say this meal was just okay. Given the reviews, I had higher expectations for the chicken. We got two half chickens, fries, and spinach. The chicken was too salty for me and the spinach wasn't creamy enough. I ended up eating most of the fries. It wasn't a super expensive meal so I wasn't mad about it. The spot is cute, kind of tucked away from the main road. If you sit outdoors, expect beggars and people trying to sell you things.
google avatar

Cory P.

Yelp
The place seems to always have a line. If you come with a big group expect to wait. So don't come hungry. 1 or 2 people wait will be way less. Yes they accommodate tables for 1. The menu is very specific and streamlined to minimalism. With that being said the chicken was perfect. Chicken soup was good but it's fatty. I forget the other sides. I think that means it was mediocre. Fries included tbh. The chicken and P,P sauce is spicy but the taste is real good with the chicken. Service was good but they're servers are working non stop.

Suzanne A.

Yelp
We went here for dinner with another couple. The ONLY good thing I can say is the chicken is good. All the other side dishes are not good. The creamed spinach was terrible. A tasteless, pulverized , glob - over processed. The Brazilian rice was full of chicken livers. The French fries were ok, how can you mess that up ? BUT... when the bill came there were items we did not order on it. Ok, maybe an honest mistake..... ? But then the server told us several times "service is not included", which is NOT true. It is always included here. Maybe he thought we were dumb Americans. The service was not good .Anyway, did not appreciate the dishonesty. Many better places.

Oriana F.

Yelp
I was looking for authentic Portuguese chicken but they gave a a rotisserie & said to add the hot sauce. The server was excellent! Say out on the street which was nice as we got free entertainment from street performers

Yelp
The first time I've been to Lisbon, this place was recommended by my best friend for the best perri perri chicken in town. I tried it once, fell in love with their sauce and chicken rice soup. It was so good that for the second time I visited Lisbon, I had to go back. We tried their steak which was a bit tough but they certainly do the chicken perfectly. Very succulent and flavorful. I would skip the salad and fries next time and just order another chicken. The chicken gizzard rice was interesting and had great flavors for those who are adventurous eaters!
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Great Peri Peri Chicken and Fries Spot The Best we had in Lisbon. The service is not phenomenal but the food is worth it. The hot oil they have to put on the chicken really sets it off. And the french fries are top notch. We dined here twice in our week long stay in Lisbon and would recommend and will probably be back if in Lisbon again. I had pics but lost them when I got my new phone (sorry)
google avatar

Roger C.

Yelp
Reviews were great so we decided to try it. They're known for their Peri Peri Chicken so we got an full order of Peri Peri Chicken, a full order of Picanha, grilled prawns, chicken liver mixed with rice and an order of chips (fries). I enjoyed the peri peri chicken the most. I didn't get the flavors of a peri peri chicken. Tasted more like a rotisserie chicken. Everybody else said it was a tad salty and agreed the grilled prawns was their favorite. The Picanha had a gamey beef flavor but I didn't mind. Some might feel the opposite. If you're feeling daring, try the chicken mixed with liver. Definitely an acquire taste. Overall 3.5/5 Also, there's chili oil on the table if you want to kick it up a notch. Low - medium spice level.

Yelp
Bonjardim is where you are supposed to go for piri piri chicken. Frango Assado com Piri Piri: The piri piri chicken is a rotisserie-style chicken. You have to order a half chicken, so it makes it hard to share if you prefer dark meat over white meat. The chicken is on the dry side with minimal seasoning, and I guess that is where the piri piri sauce comes in. There is a little bottle of piri piri sauce, which is oil with bits of piri piri pepper bits, and there is a slight amount of heat. The piri piri sauce is the best part of the meal. Our group also shared sides of plain rice, salad, fries, and liver rice. The liver rice contained a lot of flavor and ended up being the most popular dish. We also had fried cod cakes.

Gina K.

Yelp
Simple but amazing food. Delicious chicken with rice. Wait staff was efficient and friendly. The line moved more quickly than expected.

Yelp
Most tender and delicious chicken! I can't get enough of the spicy peri peri oil. We were only in the area for 4 days and returned for a second time!
google avatar

Dak U.

Yelp
Delicious chicken! Our group enjoyed the other items as well. Service was great, attentive, friendly. Tucked in an alley, but easy to find. Everyone seemed to be ordering the same thing, and happy too! In conversation with the neighboring table, they remarked that their meal was less than half of what they paid for an inferior meal the previous evening. Huge line by the time we left (7:30pm), but took less than 5 minutes to be seated when we arrived. Apparently it's over 70years old: it's survived for a reason. A tasty reason! Sit outside! Chicken, Sangria (white wine), Potatoes, Creamed Spinach, Water.

Yelp
Came here before covid-19 earlier this year and chose this place to try their famous peri peri chicken. Peri peri chicken (not pictured because I started eating and forgot to take a photo) was seasoned well but it was dry inside. We also got a side of fries with the peri peri chicken but it was cold. Fried fish which was luckily warm but it lacked flavor. The side pea and carrot salad that came with it was heavy since there is a lot of dressing. Service was horrible! The server was not friendly and very rude to us. I wanted to like this place but the food was okay at best.
google avatar

Carla D.

Yelp
The rotisserie chicken here was delicious, very well seasoned and not dry. We ordered two for five people but probably 1 and 1/2 chicken would have been enough. For sides we ordered a couple of salads and rice.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were on a food tour in Lisbon, where one of the couple's highly recommend Bonjardim for, and I quote, "the best chicken I've ever had!!!!" Although I cannot echo that sentiment, it was very delicious chicken and the peri-peri sauce here is one in which you will almost drown your chicken!! The service was top notch. We were seated outside (there is a ton of patio seating!) My boyfriend and I were clearly American, there is no denying it. The menus are available in all languages. It's one drink menu, one food menu, and each page your turn had a different language. It helps with the limited options, because the restaurant is clearly good at what they do - it also helps if you have choice paralysis. Go for the half chicken. I thought it would be too much for me (female, 105 or so lbs), but I devoured ALL of it! We had side of french fries, which to me was the not-as-optimal part of the experience because they were a tad stale? I do not know if the texture was normal for here, because perhaps it was, but it was okay since we doused some in peri peri sauce. The waiter, knowing we were American, brought over mayo and ketchup as well, which I appreciated. We also got a side salad which was refreshing! Overall, great service, really nice experience, and a hearty, delicious dinner. I recommend a visit here!

Yelp
My husband heard about this on YouTube. It was their spit chicken. . First evening we went and there was a line to wait for seating. We did. That was probably around 8pm. Next time we went around 6pm. No wait. Both times. Very pleasant staff and food was great.

Yelp
Delicious and affordable rotisserie chicken. If you like spicy food, you will love Piri Piri sauce!

Yelp
TLDR: Diners of color may find waitstaff to be unwelcoming and bordering on contemptuous. This was our experience, and reflects a number of similar reviews on Google Maps. We came for a late lunch wanting to try the piri piri chicken. One waiter seemed to be having a bad day and snapped us us when we poked our heads in to "just sit outside". Then when he came to take our order he stared up and away from us, seemingly ignoring us while we ordered. The chicken came promptly, but was remarkably dry, as if it had been over cooked. All told, an incredibly unpleasant experience.

Yelp
We waited 1/2 hour to sit. Once seated, we waited another 20 minutes before our server took our order. We ordered a whole chicken for 2 people to share. The food was very good, and cheap. I took away 1 star for the slow waiter service, otherwise we enjoyed our dinner.

Yelp
Super delicious, moist chicken. If you come here and order anything else, you are doing it wrong. Yes, there's mushroom pasta for the vegetarians, chicken soup and a few other things, but why would you even consider those when the perfect, salty roast chicken awaits you? It absolutely fulfilled our roast chicken checkbox for our trip to Lisbon.
