BOOK AND BED TOKYO Shinjuku

Very nice atmosphere in the common area and lots of interesting books in many languages! Staff were polite and spoke English. I had a lower bunk which was quite clean but the sheets were a bit small and you make the bed yourself. I heard the top bunks can be dusty but I didn't experience that so I can't really comment. Shared facilities (toilet, shower) were nice and clean, nothing to complain about there. Would recommend if you want a place to read and sleep. Central location too

As charmingly stylish and photogenic as the common space and bar are, the whole place feels like it hasn't been cleaned in years. The bunks (not really capsules, just plywood boxes) are hot, stuffy, and EXTREMELY dusty. Every flat surface and crevice was full of accumulated dust/grime. The cloth 'roof' of my bunk sagged down several inches and was impossible to avoid touching while moving around, which was unfortunate as the topside of said cloth was covered in several years worth of dust, which happily rained down into my bunk upon being disturbed. The bathrooms are similarly grimy and ill-cared-for, with consumables like toilet paper and soap frequently running out. Given how clean every other capsule hotel I've experienced in Japan is, I found this level of grime and general disregard rather surprising, even at this admittedly low price point. Some of these issues can be blamed on the clientele being primarily foreigners who do not have the same cultural values of respect for shared spaces & resources as Japanese people, but even still the lack of upkeep is very noticeable. Unlike other capsule hotels I have stayed at, this one did not appear to have a 'quiet time' policy, as the level of noise from other guests never really died down even into the early hours of the morning. Earplugs are obviously a must-have at capsule hotels unless you somehow sleep like the dead, but even still this was unusual in my experience. If you don't have allergies and don't mind putting up with grime, dust, noise, and a backpacker's hostel-like atmosphere in a neighborhood full of nightclubs and bars, you'll probably love the A+ photo opportunities and interesting reading material on offer in the very hip common space.

BATHROOMS ARE DISGUSTING! Came here to experience the rave about Book and Bed. The place is just pretty for instagram pictures. The capsules are super basic. Made with thin plywood. Can hear everything. The mattresses are filled with beads or something that are incredibly noisy when you move around and not cleaned throughly. But the bathrooms are worse. The male and women bathroom are located in the same section (not separate rooms), and was amazed how nasty they were in comparison to what they charge per night and supposedly they close from 10-4pm to clean. When I informed and showed the staff pictures of the bathroom conditions, they acted like they did not understand me and just laughed, later on I caught them talking about me complaining about the bathrooms and were giggling. Unprofessional, young staff. Would not recommend to sleep. Probably to go and take pictures for a little bit and leave but would not come back again. This place is worse than a motel in the USA.

The lounge area is very attractive and nice to hang out in, the location is good. It's cheap and the toilets are clean but everything else is Dirty The hostel isn't the most social as it has a library feel I didn't mind and ended up extending my stay by three extra days but just note if you care about cleanliness you may not like it here The bed themselves arent very comfy and music is played during the day, and as said in other reviews the duvet you are given is dirty and there isn't a case to put it in.

I would never stay here again. This "hotel" is more like a hostel without the kitchen. The beds are awful. It feels like sleeping in the floor without a pillow. Worst sleep of our whole trip. The whole atmosphere is oppressively quite in contrast to the massive party area it is located in.

I stayed here for two nights and let me just say how beautiful it is! It was very quiet, perfect for reading or just relaxing. The bathrooms were very clean and the whole living area was very clean as well. I highly recommend for any book lovers!

We loved it here for one night! Very cute experience, no noise, however the ladies bathroom is a little insane in the morning, luckily I only wanted to shower, if you want to do make up, blow dry its very busy.

The staff are horrid and make any of the redeeming qualities about this stay not worth it. The beds weren’t comfortable and most things were dirty. Great location but there’s so much better around with better prices

Loved this place! It was my first time in Japan and just had a 20hr layover so I decided to book a capsule hotel despite my friend's advice not to, since people can be noisy and you can't sleep, but I ended up loving the experience. The check in was smooth, the staff is very pleasant and will walk you through what to do. The space is what you see in the picture, a library of books and beds between. I booked a solo bed which was big enough for me, they have a charging port, a safe, a ledge to store some other stuff and a bar with hangers so you can hang clothes in the actual sleeping space. They gave you a free towel. You can also rent PJs and toiletries if you didn't bring them. People were very mindful of keeping themselves quiet, except one person who kept dragging their slippers. But I guess that's not the hotels fault. The bathrooms are clean, and they have the super fancy Japanese Toilets. Over all a great experience for me. Oh they give you earplugs too.

A bookstore you can stay overnight in. Hailed as one of the most unique hotel experience in Tokyo, booking a spot as you imagined, was a little troublesome unless you do so at least three weeks in advance. The concept is simple, a library-like hostel with sleeping quarters similar to that of a capsule hotel. Each bunk has limited space but enough for one or two depending on the size of your choosing. A two tiered curtain system acts as the door to your private sleeping chamber. Sound insulation was a bit of our concern, but guess what? We slept like babies throughout the night. Bathroom was clean and well organized. Towel rental runs about a buck and a half per towel (pajama rental is available as well). After a full day of sightseeing and touring, nothing is better than sitting down and reading a random book out of their selection. And yes, I found a picture book on nothing but poo~ and I read it page to page while sitting in the middle of the store. What can I say? I'm a man of taste and sophistication~

The other night John and I stayed in an amazing capsule hotel. We had planned on spending the night in Kyoto but instead we stayed in Tokyo at Bed and Book Capsule Hotel. It had a little cafe that served coffee, tea, and a variety of beers. Pages from the manga Akira hung from the ceiling and books in Japanese/English lined the wall. One of the capsules was big enough for the both of us, but we got two. It also had a little safe inside the capsule. It was a little hard to find but it was very clean. I was very happy we spent the night here.
