This is my Ultimate store to purchase DVD's & CD's for my Collection, as well as many collectibles. They have EVERYTHING for fans of Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Anime, Manga, etc. They sell used books of every type, a huge collection of Dvd's, Cd's, vinyls, video Games and an incredible collection of action figures from horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Anime & Manga. See my photos that were taken today. (1/27/26). That is just a few of the things that they have available. Book Off in Manhattan is a true gem and a feel-good place for book and anime-manga fans. Walking in, you immediately get that comforting, treasure-hunt vibe—rows of neatly organized books, manga, anime DVDs, games, and collectibles, all at surprisingly affordable prices. Whether you’re hunting for a classic novel, a hard-to-find manga volume, or just browsing for something fun, it’s easy to lose track of time here. What really sets Book Off apart is their very cool buying program—you can sell your books and stuff directly to the store, which makes it more than just a shop. The process is simple and well-organized, and it’s great to see your old favorites find new homes. On top of that, the staff is very helpful and friendly, always ready to answer questions, help you locate items, or explain the buying process. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the constantly changing selection means every visit feels fresh.

Must visit if you’re a book/anime/game fan. I could spend hours in there, everything is jam packed into it so you really have to scour all the aisles. And also come back in frequently because their selection is constantly changing! Great place to sell your old books and games too

Bookoff is a lovely place to shop for people of many interests, whether that be books, video games (new and old), action figures/statues, movies and music (vinyl/cds) and more. However the prices are quite high. I understand rent is probably expensive and they have to pay the bills somehow, but some of what was being sold was insanely overpriced. For example, I found the album TNT by Tortoise on cd, and checked the price to see 50$. This is an album that you can get on Discogs for like.. fifteen dollars after shipping. And the condition of the case was pretty bad as well. Many of the other CDs were priced like new even if they were kinda beat up or not worth that much in the first place. Definitely some cool stuff to see but maybe not purchase.

My children were blown away by the huge selection of books in Japanese. I was torn between the great figurines (which I use as an eccentric decoration in my law firm!) and the broad selection of second hand books. The ambience was terrific, with the hustle and bustle of excited shoppers looking for hard to find items: from out of print books to second hand video games. I was also delighted to see the array of used books at one dollar each, for which there was an eager audience. A great community experience!

Great place to visit to check out books and figures. The store is divided upon collection of figures, games, and books. Good quiet place to spend in a loud fast paced part of the city. The pricing of the books are fair in my opinion. They also have a small section for retro games which was interesting. Feel like this is a gem where you can pick up some good buys depending on when they restock. Looking forward to revisiting Bookoff and recommend to anyone that is near the are looking for a place to check out.

Amazing used book store in a convenient location in the city. I was looking to kill some time before a matinee show and this was perfect. I could easily spend hours in here. The prices are so low and the selection is so large. I love that there's a clearance section for $1 books upstairs, all organized by genre. There's quite a large Manga collection downstairs as well as video games and Funko Pops. The checkout was quick and the service was friendly. I also love that it's right next to a coffee shop. I am definitely coming back here next time I'm in town.

So far , this place has been the best store I’ve ever been too , especially looking at the action figures , and my favorite part of the store , the DVD section. It has some of the best classic movies and even new releases and movies that recently came out and for a cheap and good price , it’s recommended to buy movies especially in this location. Definitely worth coming here!

Really cool bookstore to hang out around. Tons of figurines, video games, toys, pokemon cards, and of course books. Great $1 book section. Tons of big name authors there!

I added this to our places to check out while in NYC as it was described as a used bookstore. After actually visiting I think the first floor is more worth browsing. The second floor was packed full of books and if you spent a long time browsing I bet you could find some great deals. Looking through some of the book prices though looked to be close to the original price for a used copy. I get they must have a large bill for the space but why buy used at similar rate to new. Also like I said I think the first floor was more worthwhile I will add a disclaimer to that and say the prices were once again the biggest issue. I specifically noticed the video game section that even some older not that special/unique PlayStation games were overpriced. Even when factoring in physical versus digital and what not. I think for some of the games you would be better off finding the nearest GameStop. The most interesting part was some of the retro games/rarer games and then some of the collectibles to see and admire. Again though prices made it no question but to skip. I suspect they paid most people nothing to turn around and charge these crazy inflated prices. If you visit to browse it's great but if you want deals be ready to really search around.

They changed the store so much since I was last here. I think it blew up due to social media. I used to sell things in the past for a good price but when I went recently, I barely got anything back.

Really glad to have found this store - it's a great place to browse through when I'm in the area and I've got some spare time. There are three levels packed with used books and music and memorabilia. The basement has CDs and DVDs, the main floor has anime and manga, and the second floor is all books. There's an elevator in the store if you can't do stairs. The store is very well organized and surprisingly neat for the amount of merchandise. The employees are always very friendly and helpful. They both buy and sell, but I've only ever bought. I usually leave with one or two books at a great price. I'm not sure how they decide on prices, but there seems to be a wide range. For example, on my last visit I purchased two hardcovers in similar condition, one marked at $5 and the other marked at $12. And a few months ago I found a hardcover book I was interested in marked at $30, which didn't seem worth it for a used copy. On my more recent visit last week the book was still there, but marked down to $19. Still more then I want to pay, but I'm wondering if I check again in a couple more months if it will still be on the shelf and marked down even further. Definitely a great place to browse through though, and you're likely to leave with a few finds.

Bookoff is a used bookstore chain from Japan. I have walked by this store in the past, but only recently went inside. The size of this place was far larger than I imagined and it is three floors in total. They have a huge collection of books of all subjects that is just as extensive as Barnes & Noble, but cheaper. However, they offer way more than just used books. This place is in fact a must visit for any anime fan. The place is well stocked with a huge collection of manga, action figures and collectibles. Secondly, they also offer a massive amount of retro items you cannot find elsewhere: Video games (NES, Super Famicom, Gameboy, N64, XBox, PS1, PS2, PS3, everything up until current generation systems), CDs, DVDs, Blue Rays, and more! There is even a bargain area in the basement where they sell movies for as low as $2.00. If you are in your 30s and 40s and up, you will feel like you've walked into a place from 20 years ago.

This store had quite a variety of items. From books, to records, DVDs, CDs, and a huge selection of Funko pops and all sorts of different Pokémon and anime character items. Certainly worth my time and I'm sure you'll find something that you'll enjoy. The staff was very friendly. Prices could be a little lower, but you are in NYC.

So many nendoroids! It's there's manga, dvds and blu rays but it's rare to find so many nendoroids. Some naruto, AOT, lots of figmas. Gaming systems were plentiful here too. Saw the mythical golden n64 here to go with the golden goldeneye cartridge. Great value, things could be a little cheaper. Line can get long but they're polite and move people quickly through the checkout process.

Very impressed! Bookstore on the 2nd floor Video games and collectibles on ground level Music and movies in the basement. Vast with a lot of variety. Definitely worth a look for all!

What a great find! It's definitely a spot for needs (with love)! Actually, there's something for everyone. My husband was taken aback by the nendoroid collection, and my daughter picked out four books. The young adult section is on point, too. Highly recommended!

Friday 2pm Passed right by Bookoff and didn't realize it had used books. From the store front it looks like a gaming store and why we didn't look up and see the store name...I don't know. It was raining. Looking on Yelp and the address led us right here, not far from our hotel. When we're out of town we always enjoy finding used book stores and also, the book I brought to read on vacation is almost to the end. My husband enjoyed looking downstairs at the action figures and games. I went right upstairs to the red $1 signs. It didn't take long for me to find a book. So many great books! Headed downstairs to the kids books. Many of them not $1. *sigh I found a super cute hardback book for $5.50. 4/5 stars because bags are 30 cents and not many kids books for $1

Book-Off, or at least this location, is a mixed bag. There is a great variety of merchandise and if you dig, you'll probably find something interesting. However, they lowball you pretty intensely if you're selling--I thought they had improved in this regard, but a recent visit proved me wrong. This would sting less if the used goods on sale were a bargain, but they're highly marked up. Buying low and selling high makes sense as a business model, and of course you shouldn't expect top dollar for your goods--taking a hit on the resale value in exchange for the convenience of selling them quickly and getting paid in cash is the appeal of this kind of business. But unlike comparable thrift stores, there are no apparent rules for pricing, the seller does not evaluate items in front of you, and they do not give the option to opt for store credit at a better percentage. So unless you truly do not care, I don't recommend selling here--even with low expectations, as I had going in, you're liable to leave with a bad taste in your mouth.

An array of anime, video games, plushies and books of course. Hard to find and rare items here. The staff are really cool. I feel like some of the Japanese items are a little overpriced but I understand.

I've been coming to Book Off for years to both buy and sell! This is such a convenient place to have in the city where you get some cash back for merch and products you are ready to part with. The exchange makes me more comfortable in knowing that my merch is going to good homes with people that want these pieces enough to buy them. I will edit my post once I get her name but there is an lovely girl attendant that remembers me by name and a very fun attendant named Stephano that I always especially enjoy running into. I visited Book Off locations both in Japan and New York and I sincerely hope you all expand further. Thank you so much for your service!

One of my favorite places to go to in the city or in Brooklyn. This loactions has a lot more than their Brooklyn location. From books in English and japaneseto stuff toys to collectible figures to video games of all ranges. The place is always clean. I never see staff walking around but you can go up to the counter to ask any questions. Overall I should and will need to return more often.

I've been coming here since Book-Off opened and spending good money here but after today you lost a loyal customer!! I bought a few DVDs and included this one in the picture. As the worker was ringing me she picked up the Avenger DVD and ripped off the price tag that was originally on the DVD!! With a big smile on her face! And I found all of those DVDs in the $2.50 clearance department and charging me $11.50 for the dvd!! Like trying to say I'm stealing but switching the price tags without saying it and charging me $10 more dollars with their mistakes! After I said something the manager took the worker's side

This has quickly become one of my favorite used bookstores. I always leave with an harmful of books. For the most part, the prices are quite fair. Sometimes they will mark up new releases or very popular books, but I can't fault them for that. The staff is also nice.

A fun shop to browse! You're bound to find something to interest you. Two floors of used books and collectibles from fiction to manga, anime, gundam, graphic novels, histories, biographies, Star Wars - a little bit for everyone! Well worth a stop in for a look and a possible bargain.

Don't come here to sell. I came in to sell funko pops and if they offered me $5-6 for each would've been okay. They were going to sell each i brought in for $15-30 while they just offered me $2.50.. Won't even cover my train ride.

I love Bookoff! The customer service is excellent, and I've had nice chats with the staff as they were scanning my items. Some books are priced a little higher than the unused ones, but you gotta look for the gems! (Though it's a minority) The DVD's downstairs are good deals!

Came here for the first time in ages!! I used to come here with my friends after classes. They moved some sections around since the pandemic, but it was pretty nostalgic. I was more excited about the Japanese gatcha machines. They're pretty pricey, they have special coins you need to buy, 1 for $2 and all the machines cost 2 or 3 coins ($4-$6 for one try). I got all of the ones I wanted so I left pretty happy. For first timers, this store also sells anime, manga, movies, TV shows, games, figures and music. However, most if not all of the merchandise is previously owned/used. My issue with this is some of the conditions of these products are ripped up and not in good condition (such as some DVD containers, I saw some of them were extremely ripped up and in horrible condition. Also, some of the items are way overpriced for its value. It's not impossible to find a decent deal, but please try to inspect something before buying.

Lots of Godzilla. My brother loves Godzilla and allegedly these were just okay prices but a large selection. I did go in Black Friday weekend and was bummed they weren't having any sales. They had a bit of everything in there! Including used books upstairs! The employees were helpful and friendly!

For the book enthusiasts, bargain hunters, toy collectors and all collectors. Great selection of different books, Manga, toys, cds, dvds and more. All items are bargained prices, categorized section by section in each row. There is an overwhelming amount to look at depending on what you are interested in- it might take some time to go through it all. The top floor has used books from languages you might want to start or learn again, old edition study books for tests, any past editions you don't mind reading at fairly low prices. The bottom floor before the main level is a Manga sanctuary with lots to browse. Different Manga mixed with Art books and all sorts. Added items arrive in weekly, all forms of payment are accepted, staff are helpful and do a good job on keeping as much organized here.

Quirky random book & game & media store. 3 floors. Packed to the brim. It's all used stuff. The pricing varies drastically. The used books were quite expensive especially considering the quality. Most paperbacks were between $5.50-$10.50 but some more than that. There was one book that had a BJs sticker on it that sold for $11 new and they were selling for $10.50 in less desirable condition. The vinyl section is small, dusty and musty. The CDs are a disorganized mess. Huge selection of Funko Pops and video games. I'm sure it's possible to find a well priced gem but it was hard to justify a lot of items here. Bags are $.30 each too.

basically endless supply and selection of both eng and jp lang manga-- jp tends to be much cheaper (obviously haha) beyond manga selection, there's a bunch of non-manga books, figures (both out of and in box), plushies, keychains, and other assorted trinkets and accessories. There's blurays and vinyls available-- and various games for various consoles. some of the books with noticeable damage/wear are a bit too close to original price in my opinion, but on the other hand, there's amazing deals for great quality too! same story with the figures-- out of box and/or scuffed quality was sold for too close to original price. (better off using eBay/Facebook Marketplace for figurines) location was clean; packed with people though, so you might feel cramped. workers are kind and willing to help you with any questions you might have.

Good for shoppers, I guess. But my fist might be my only one. I just received $1.70 for (1) DVD "Grey Gardens" (Criterion collection), and 3 value-line major artists CDs, I did not bother to look at anything in the shop. SO I have not idea of the selling prices there. It cost much more for the subway fare back and forth. My small apt. is full. Will give away or throw away media, instead.

This place is heaven for used books. I was able to purchase a book that is normally for $20 at $5.5. That is a lot of saving! This place has lots of diverse book selection to pick for purchasing. Will definitely come back for more books : )

Definitely the worst Bookoff in NYC. If you can, go down to NoHo or Brooklyn, they are smaller but have a nicer selection. This Bookoff also doesn't sort by source or anything, making it difficult to find certain characters.

For a buyer it's a hobby paradise. For sellers, they don't pay a lot for used items unless it's an anime figure. And even then they're very selective about what they accept.

Great place to visit while in NYC for some used books. There is one near where I live so I knew what to expect.

Dont waste your time trying to sell your books here. They make you wait forever and then offer you pennies.

Imagine if you will your favorite college bookstore--used books at great bargain prices helping you avoid exorbitant fees you can't afford. Only now, imagine it with not just assigned textbooks, but the expansive selection of a solid to good bookstore. Throw in selections of DVDs and random toys and collectibles. (What's that? Your college bookstore did have all this? Well aren't you fancy!) Now, plop it down in a convenient side street in the middle of Midtown, and you have Book Off. Just a fun and random place to get lost browsing for an hour or two, or to kill a lunch break in the event you are back in the office. If you come looking for a specific title, I'd say you have about a 50% chance of finding it. But if you come for the random serendipity of finding a book or movie you barely or never knew existed--likely at a bargain basement price--you have a close to 100% chance of success. I find this place endlessly charming and ramshackle and fun. And as a former bookstore employee, while the alphabetical order and book organization by subject s not perfect, it is generally pretty damn impressive--especially when you consider the amount of material and unique titles. Seems like a good spot for collectibles like those vinyl Pop figures as well, though generally not my thing. They offer to buy used items, not sure at all how that works. Only caveat--poorly ventilated/air conditioned--avoid on warmer days.

We hit Bookoff during the same week we visited both Forbidden Planet and Strand Books. And honestly Bookoff was the hit of the three. We had so much to browse and so many good deals to choose between. And plenty of space and help. Their prices were better than Forbidden Planet and their book selection was not quite as extensive as the Strand (of course not) but in this niche, they are a great competitor even for the Strand. Don't miss the lesser-known but equally-deserving Bookoff if you've got an hour for an earnest browse.

BUYERS BEWARE: 1. They're selling NEW and USED/previously bought items for DOUBLE the price of other retailers. 2. If you are trying to sell your Funko Pops here or any other items they WILL rip you off and give you only 10% or less than the actual retail price. My friend just went here trying to sell her Funko Pops worth about $550. They were unopened and in pristine condition. She did all her research on the official Funko Pop app to ensure correct pricing/fair trade. She also called Bookoff twice ahead of time to ensure/confirm that they'd buy her Funko Pops and asked ahead of time what price/percentage she'd get for her items to ensure that she'd not waste their time and they'd not waste hers. Both times their employees told her that they'd give at minimum 30% of what the original price was depending on the condition of the box and the value of each item. Tell me why after evaluating all her items (which took over an hour) they came back and told her that for all her Funko Pops (NOT just some now. For ALL valued at $550) they were only going to give her $34.50 for them. Laughable. Bookoff is a ripoff. It's cute that they have rare/valuable items, but when they're trying to sell USED items for DOUBLE the retail price while trying to buy rare items from sellers and only giving less than 10% and have no negotiation on fair trade their business practices become soured and downright shady. To all sellers you better off selling you stuff someplace else. To buyer BE AWARE that they are selling USED good for double the price. I wouldn't even be surprised if they're marking it as NEW too.

Good used fiction selection for pretty good prices. Also loved the $1 pokemon and yugioh card wall. Can't beat it.

This place got better. They're a little bit more fair if you sell figurines. The selection is good and is a wide variety.

This used to be a favorite store of mine. Very recently they moved their DVD, CD and vinyl sections to the basement, where they are wildly overpriced. But what's really gone sour in a big way is their buying policy. I recently lugged in nearly 50 DVDs. Most were classic films; some were still unopened, and there were even a few big sets. What did they offer me? The grand sum of $18. I won't be returning.

This is my kind of store!!! I really enjoy checking out new places that have a focus on movies, music and comics .... and all things related. This place is legit, kind of a hole in the wall, and I totally stumbled across it by accident. Wall to wall stuff on display and most of the items come at a really reasonable price point. Even found a good number of items to lug back with me when the trip was over. Overall, wasn't really impressed with the comic/gn selection .... but they are trying to do a lot here. Maybe that will improve with time. Tons of stuff that you'll never see anywhere else if you are a collector of any of these types of things. Staff was friendly, store was well organized .... really happy I stumbled across this place and look forward to visiting the next time I'm in NYC.

My daughter really wanted to come here for the manga. I was pleasantly surprised to see they sell used books and many other things like CDs BluRays records electronics and games! I was most interested in their used game systems and the avast array of import games from Japan! Prices for the games aren't great, but my daughter had better luck with manga. We left with 3 books that looks almost new for a decent discount. This would be a great place to visit for hard to find things. They even sell laptops and other cool things like funko pop characters and amiibos. What a unique store!

I stopped by here randomly and I was quite decently surprised. They have a whole floor dedicated to video games, anime, manga, etc. & on the upstairs level they have more contemporary books. Found 2 popular books for less than 12 dollars which was such a steal. Honestly if you come w an open mind and are okay with a little bit of a surprise in books this is def the place for you. They had a lot of used booktok/popular books as well so you'll def find some books you're interested in.

cool store filled with all types of media! not everything is truly "used" and it is a bit of a scavenge to find used items. don't recommend for figurines (life tip just buy on ebay) but i recommend for low price manga and cds!

Amazing selection, huuuge with three floors, great pricing, I love the workers they're all so nice, the pins and keychains could be organized better but besides that I love this location and everything they have it's great

they have a great film selection downstairs. as well as a cool video game library. I wish i could go back and spend all day in there. Highly recommend. There are not many places like this that exist anymore.

DO NOT SELL HERE. We used to love Bookoff. It was a favorite place to browse with my kids and where they would bring figurines or Pops they no longer wanted for a little spending money for the store. However, last week my teen brought their entire Funko Pop collection that they no longer wanted, 65 in all, and Bookoff offered them $1 or LESS per item, $60 total. We looked on the shelves and found an identical one to one we were selling going for $20. We took all of the Pops back home, posted just four on Ebay, and already made over $100. It's more time consuming but Bookoff would have given us $4 for those same Pops. They overcharge for what they sell and short change sellers. It should be called RipOff.

This was my go-to for used books for a long time. Nowadays the $1 is tiny and many books are priced at or above their original price even if in less than pristine condition.

An excellent book, cd, and dvd store with good selection and lists of activity. There are quite a few hard-to-find and collectible items as well as Japanese media.

this place is amazing for any collector or enthusiast. The people are nice and they price the items accordingly to eBay. Their selection is huge and they also buy merchandise. Hard for resellers since these items are all at market value

This place is awesome. They also have a crazy amount of old school video games and graphic novles. Great prices. Great store!

Very cool used book, toy, video games, movies and more store. There's a lot to this store so you'll want to spend a lot of time looking around too. Beware that they don't have a restroom for customers which having a book store without a bathroom should be a crime. There's so much in this store I'm jealous I don't have anything comparable in my city. There's a massive collection of used figures, video games of all platforms, movies on the 1st floor. There's a 2nd floor of user books and a basement level of graphic novels, anime and all sorts of books that are in English and Japanese. They also buy just about everything. If you're looking for something rare or that specific toy to complete your collection this place is a must experience in NYC.
