Google
I am so impressed. Super fast delivery. And the book was so well packed. Beautifully presented. It was an absolute joy to unwrap. This vintage book received the care it deserves. Will order again.

Google
Lovely little cookbook store. Can find exotic and vintage cookbooks. If you're looking for the latest celebrity chef cookbooks though you might want to head down to a commercial bookshop. They also ship worldwide and are online. Just pop in and take a look - you won't regret if you're a cookbook buff.

Google
Lovely little find in Queen Vic Market 🥰 They have a big selection of pre-loved books. Was in the store to look for British food history and found some good ones. The lady at the til was super friendly and helpful. Definitely coming back!

Google
Amazing little shop with all kinds of books around the topics of cooking, baking, food and drinks; from all areas of the world, and with a selection that goes from vintage rare-to-find (maybe nostalgic to some) to modern day. The location next to the market makes it ideal to check it out while shopping or visiting the market.

Google
An absolutely delightful shop that covers all methods/cuisines and diets. The owner is helpful and lets you browse as long as you like. Reasonably priced and well worth the visit whether attending the market or not

Google
Wonderful place for gifts or for yourself. I had the owner help me select books for Christmas presents for 3 of my friends with completely different tastes. I would highly recommend this place. Will definitely be back!

Google
One of the best bookshops in the world. I've shopped here multiple times, and every experience has been excellent. The owner/operators always extend gracious hospitality, and their range is unsurpassed. I can't commend this business highly enough. Thankyou Books for Cooks!

Google
Walls and shelves packed with recipe books, chef biographies, food guides and books on pairing with wines, spirits ,beer and even coffee. So many speciality books too and antique food related books. It's amazing here and you can find just about anything you're after. There's even a wall with recipe books based on location so a full section of French, Italian, Mexican, German, Japanese, etc... I love coming here!

Yelp
This is the good Reference book shop for all cooks and chefs out there. Anything you want to search from finger foods to ethnic cuisine, from tapas to pho ( pronounce "phu") so many cuisine across the board are available here in this book shop. I will recommended if you want to impress some one for any occasion.

Yelp
Why bring home a T-Shirt for someone from a trip when you can bring them a beautiful cookbook instead? Fun selection books on all things cooking related. I found 5 great used books on obscure cooking techniques that thrilled me. Staff were helpful and knowledgable. Good for locals or tourists.

Yelp
It is always nice to have a speciality retailer and to find one that deals almost exclusively with cookery books is ideal. The reason why this is three starts is because sadly, two factors have brought it down. The pricing for the most part isn't as competitive as it should be. In the age of the internet you have a great deal many more retailers that act as competition and while I admit a brick and mortar store should charge higher, more than double is unacceptable. The three items I looked at were grossly well above average price - RRP for one magazine (the newest in print) was $20 while this store was attempting to charge $40. Mrs A B Marshall's Cookery Book I bought for $40 previously while they see it fit to charge $145. The biggest issue I have is that they do not permit haggling, bargaining or anything else if that nature. The second big issue I have is the staff. There is always this one woman there who is horrible with deal with. Not warm, not friendly, not capable of even holding a conversation above payment method and if one needs a bag to transport their purchase. Still, it's a store worth checking out - especially to find unusual publications. If you want service, go elsewhere and if you want a bargain do not ever go here.

Yelp
I love books... we even have a library in our house. The thing about books however, is that even if you read them more than once, they spend a lot of time being unused. Except cookbooks. A good cookbook will be loved, tabbed, written in, loaned, scanned and even handed down to future generations. If you want or need a book about anything vaguely cuisine related, Books For Cooks is where you go.

Yelp
The first thing I love about Books for Cooks is the surprising lack of any kind of pretension. It's a bookstore devoted to food preparation, and that's all it is. It's not trying to make a statement, it's not trying to be cool or hip or funky or whatever adjective the kids are using these days. It's books on food, at what seem like reasonable prices. The second thing I like about Books for Cooks is it seems that they'll buy *anything*. You've got books devoted just to jelly moulds, you've got issues of culinary journals which are years out of date. And they're not making a point it it, it's just that they're taking the books (and journals, etc) seriously. So, if you're ever in the mood for finding a strange cookbook, or you need specific information on a particular rare type of roast fowl, here would be an excellent place to start.

Yelp
You don't have to be into cooking to enjoy a little peruse in Books for Cooks. It will help though if you like books. However, if you do fancy yourself a bit of deft hand in the kitchen, you'll LOVE this bookshop. It's smallest gift to us is that it stocks pretty much any cookbook you could possibly want, and if by some awkward oversight they do not, they will order it in for you. What makes this shop extra special is that they stock foreign language cookbooks. I'm not sure where else in Melbourne you'd find this, but at Books for Cooks you'll find cookbooks in Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and more. My favourite books though are the vintage ones, where you'll find such antiquated titles as 1938's bestseller, 'Herb-Lore for Housewives' and curious gems like 'A Vade Mecum for Malt Worms' from the late 1800s. Let's get El Bulli on people's asses.

Yelp
This place is like a candy store for cookbook enthusiasts. Amateur cooks and professional chefs will find everything they want here, from popular Nigella books to extremely hard to find rarities. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Their passion for cookbooks is obvious and they'll go out of their way to track down any cookbook you've always wanted to get your oven mitts on.

Yelp
I love Leafing through a great cook book. There is no greater pleasure than planing what feast you can make for your Friends next, or picking up a hint or tip. This shop is a haven for this and you can find books you will not find anywhere else.

Yelp
Probably the largest food bookstores in the world. They are very knowledgable and helpful. Perfect place to find an obscure cookbook as a gift.

Yelp
So I LOVE food. Cooking it. Reading about it. Hearing about people's food experimentation. Seeing pictures of food. Mmmmm. Often I try to share my enthusiasm, sending a magazine subscription for a holiday, or making my flatmates watch Master Chef with me. This place is just evil! Haha. Books for Cooks has so many amazing books, food literature and cookbooks. Something for everyone! They have some rare prints, new releases, large format books even for sitting out and talking over with friends (while eating food that you've cooked, obviously). My new obsession, that they've filled their window with, Neil Perry's Rockpool book. Makes me want a burger, real bad.

Yelp
If you love cooking, eating or just looking at food porn then you simply must visit Books For Cooks. They have an insanely huge collection of new and old books spread across five rooms and it's easy to spend hours here looking at weird and wonderful antique books and lusting after the latest release.

Yelp
If you enjoy time in the kitchen, then this shop is like being a kid in a lolly shop. They stock the best range of food inspired books you are likely to find...anywhere! Sure, they have a wonderful collection of up to date cookbooks, but they also stock food fiction, philosophical ruminations on why we eat, unusual historical recipe rarities and they will source that 'hard to find', out of print book that you've hankering for...even if it takes months. I can waste hours lost amongst the awesome titles and enrich my gastronomic library in the process. This shop is a little Melbourne gem and no trip to Gertrude st is complete without a visit.

Yelp
Such a sweet and special local store, they are super friendly and helpful, if they haven't got it they will get it in for you. Awesome old fashioned customer service. If you love food and cooking this is a store to visit!!!
