The Most Australian of Australian Restaurants

"Many Australian chefs make use of Indigenous ingredients, but there’s nothing like trying them prepared by a First Nations chef. At Booln Booln Cafe on Victoria’s surf coast (about an hour’s drive southwest of Melbourne), get stuck in strawberry and Davidson plum tarts, lemon myrtle cream cinnamon buns, and Blakbrews teas infused with pepperberry and wattleseed. Local musicians sometimes drop by to play a few tunes, and there’s a wildlife sanctuary next door where kangaroos and emus are waiting to try and steal a nip of your choc and wattleseed cookie." - Alexandra Carlton

I first found this new café on EatClub, and later realised it’s actually located in the same area as the Aboriginal Centre I visited a long time ago. The place has been renewed with a new name, but it still beautifully showcases Aboriginal culture and art. The wildlife area is also kept, which makes it a lovely spot for families — you can even feed emus and wallabies! The café offers many unique desserts, all beautifully made and not too sweet. Everything tasted delicious, and the staff were so warm and friendly. Highly recommend visiting here to enjoy good coffee and food while feeling the relaxed atmosphere and learning about Aboriginal culture.

Nothing beats a sneaky weekday off work! 😎 Off to Booln Booln for brunch — and wow, the food was next level. Started with the kangaroo jaffle (10/10 flavour bomb) followed by the mango tart because, well… one must have fruit in their diet 🍋😉 Absolutely delicious food and the service was just as amazing. Can’t wait to come back! 💛✨

Amazing find. The whole experience from the booking of the high tea with Troy, the food itself and the wonderful staff was exceptional. The food was wonderfully different and the tea blends amazing. I never expected to sample all of the tea blends during the high tea and would have tried the coffee if i had enough room. Nothing was too much trouble for the attentive staff. Highly recommend the High Tea experience

What a beautiful place to eat a meal the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. The macaroons are delightful and The kangaroo Jaffle With home-made tomato sauce was delicious. I definitely will be back.

Wowee (11 out of 10 here) normally a coffee drinker but had the red centre tea (incredible) also paired with a jaffle (amazing). Customer service was a real highlight - so welcoming and friendly. Great vibes - very relaxing place to stop in for a quick or long break!

The cafe was clean and the staff were friendly, but it wasn’t very family friendly in my opinion. There wasn’t a real kids menu, just $10 cheese toasties or a ham and cheese option. They had $12.50 sausage rolls, one vegetarian and the other was labelled “roo,” which my kids said absolutely not, we are not eating Skippy. Juice was listed on the menu but wasn’t available, leaving only water. A bit disappointing, especially during the school holidays when families make up a big part of the crowd.

It's great to see the cafe open their door once again after a break and under new management I gather. Seating hasn't changed much, miss the couch near Fire place. Staff are courteous and prompt. Menu is quite basic, a lot of different type of Jaffles I guess. I felt kids menu can be more exciting and affordable. Paid $10 for cheese toastie, most cafes around charge about $7 So if you have 2 or more children, it adds up. Would love to see more addition to menu, wraps, scones etc. Hope the new crew enjoy serving and being part of this beautiful community!

Lovely sunny deck to sit outside and enjoy delicious coffee and tea and yummy treats. You’d never realise you’re close to a main road. The jaffles are a winner. Very friendly welcoming staff. Highly recommend.
