"Boomerang’s has all the typical thrift store finds: vintage clothing, cheap books, old kitchenware. But, unlike most thrift stores, all proceeds from Boomerangs support AIDS Action, a non-profit organization working to provide support to HIV/AIDS victims and tackle its root causes." - Intrepid

Boomerangs is back and better than ever! The renovations to our beloved Boomerangs in Central are just lovely. It is bright and well organized with a lovely walk through added to help with aisle congestion. The quality of items for the price is tough to beat! I am so excited that More Than Words has taken on my favorite thrift shop, and I made out with some beautiful sweaters, and three tops for about $40!

Deborah C

Google
A bright and open space filled with books, shoes, and clothing. There's a very limited selection of home goods and accessories. I didn't take anything home this time around, but I'd definitely come back if I'm in the area.

A Roberts

Google
Reasonably priced clothes. The used books were a bit more expensive than I'm used to, but the selection is all high-quality and recent/relevant titles. The clothes seemed mostly for women, I couldn't find any men's clothing but maybe I just missed it

Katie Yang

Google
Surprisingly a lot of cashmere sweaters! Other than it is a bit dimly lit so a bit harder to see everything, this store is perfect for sweaters and jackets. Everything seems to be about 15 dollars, so not very good for smaller items like tops, but very good if you are looking for heavier items. Lots of cool women’s shoes too!

Hyo Sun Park

Google
Great variety of collections, high-quality items at very cheap prices, and very clean and well-maintained store! The workers are also so friendly and helpful.

Google
I was so sad when the original Boomerangs closed and so excited to hear it was reopening because it was one of my favorite stores. The new version is fine but it's not the same as it was before. The prices are higher (now comparable to other thrift stores) and the way clothing is displayed makes it really hard to find anything. Nothing is organized by size and the skirts/pants are displayed in such a way that you can't tell what they are unless you take them off the hanger. In the past I'd make a special trip to go there because the prices were so good but now it doesn't really feel worth it.

Google
Favorite clothing store that's always updating it's inventory, for easy selecting, and affordable summer styles

Google
I was so sad to see the original Boomerangs close - but More Than Words has come back and made this store even better!!! They have used clothes (women AND men), books, a mountain of incredible shoes, homeware, and even records. Fantastic luxury shoe selection too. Prices are unbeatable and store associates are lovely. Great place to get a present and shop for yourself. Plus support an incredible cause!

Judith S.

Yelp
Thanks for selling inexpensive mugs that I needed for some charitable gift bags (donations)

Doreen L.

Yelp
I found the perfect winter boots for $, and happily took back the $$ boots I'd grudgingly bought at TJMaxx, which were oversized...but I'd decided to settle. These boots are way more comfortable and warmer, as well. I have also found other wearables, a hiking bag and kitchen wear at giveaway prices. The fact I'm shopping for a good cause --supporting folks living with HIV, is an extra impetus to invest my monies with Boomerang. The staff is usually friendly, except that one time I found a REALLY fashionable designer gem, but the manager refused to sell it to me because it didn't have a price tag. I asked if they would tag it, but she insisted that the owner may come back to claim it. Sorry, didn't believe her. You can open an account and save for your next purchase.

Andrea S.

Yelp
Lugar de tiendas cercanas a mí ubicación,de muebles y productos eléctricos y máquinas de lavar y secar,. Ver más productos,

Cynthia T.

Yelp
Boutique like. Pretty purses and accessories for very low price. Convenient location. Highly recommend.

Britney S.

Yelp
Was so surprised to find this great find in the area. Cheap name brands and a super fun staff to boot. Also $4 lululemon? Can't beat it!

Lisa M.

Yelp
What a great little shop ! Lovely staff , affordable thrift and going to a great cause ! I will definitely be back when I visit Cambridge!

Danielle C.

Yelp
I found a Neko Atsume cat plush - a chef cat named Guy Furry, to be exact - for $4. YESSSSSSSSSSSS. That plus a 20% student discount on Wednesdays made this a very good deal. Their clothing selection seemed a bit limited, but the prices seemed reasonable. Most items seemed to be $6 and up, with the more expensive name brands a bit more than that.

Andres D.

Yelp
Awesome thrift store in central square--probably the best one in Cambridge. The selection isn't huge but it is pretty decent and basically all the items are desirable to someone (no complete junk the way the goodwill often has). There are also some great finds that are not markuped to the price that they'd be at a dedicated vintage store. Environment is cozy and staff is nice. Definitely check them out!

Michele W.

Yelp
Awesome place, the staff are all nice, great finds including Lululemon for under $10 each

Mia W.

Yelp
This place is outstanding! And the people who work here are a delight. I found a merino Yohji Yamamoto sweater for $6 and some incredible dishes for $2 each. The cashier noticed me hanging clothing that I found on the floor, and she discounted some of my items out of appreciation! I'll definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

Tess H.

Yelp
Got a beautiful Dooney and Burke purse here for $25. I've always wanted one because my mom has had one as long as I can remember but I could NEVER afford one until now. This shop is awesome, affordable, and well organized. I'll be back for sure.

Cyan L.

Yelp
The best thrift store ever in my opinion! Items are extremely good quality and well-priced. It's for a charitable cause too. Will donate items here as well in the future.

Jessica S.

Yelp
One of my fav thrift shops! Pricing can be hit or miss, some items are overpriced, others are a bargain. They have 20% off discount on wednesdays. They also have silent auction on items in the window display. The inventory varies (as does any thrift store) but you can def find a lot of gems here. Def sign up for their rewards program. You get $5 reward just for signing up! You get boomerang cash back for purchases and they never expire ^_^ I wish more thrift stores did this! Yelp hours are incorrect: they are closed Sunday and are only open until 6 pm Monday until Saturday.

Taina G.

Yelp
Visited store for the first time, small cute busy store. The store is clean and organized. There's a lot of variety with home goods and clothes, accessories. We found some cute things went on a accidental shopping spree but glad it's going to a good cause. My gripe....It's unprofessional when the workers are having LOUD personal conversations and making insinuations. Upon me grabbing my bags the lady behind the counter suggested I should smile more. Really..? I just spent 100 I'm perfectly fine thank you. It's called Resting B*tch Face. How about you tend to customers, the register and minding your own business.

Cyclops G.

Yelp
Personally I loved it. Cute stuff, great prices. I got a jacket and a top for 9 bucks.

Emmanuel T.

Yelp
New Staff Members Don't Like Black People After years of patronage (donating and buying) with great experiences with the previous friendly and respectful staff I was treated poorly by the two (unknown to me) staffers working tonight. Neither of the two chatting staff members (one behind and one in front of the check out counter) acknowledged me standing beside them and I had to interrupt their personal conversation to ask to use the fitting room. A sigh and eye roll later I was told that There was a six item limit and I could not take my bag in with me. I have never been told this the dozens of times I've asked to use a fitting room there and the staff seemed perfectly happy to let another White woman customer in with her larger bag (I'm Black and present as a man). I'll stick to the JP location and hope that I don't encounter either of the discriminating workers again.

Max J.

Yelp
A couple of years back, this store was one of my favorites. I became familiar courtesy of the South End store. I've bought floor lamps, several plant stands, a funky mirror and a truly lovely ceramic. Approximately 3 years ago I returned, only to be totally disappointed by the new set-up. The "finds" have been "pre-found", and you must bid on them. This assures the store the highest price for good items, and they are (after all) a charity, but nothing for the hunter to purchase. I return once every year, in hopes they have realized they've destroyed the fun, and re-established the original format. No success. They are a fine Aids-based charity, but other than making a donation, nothing to be found here ... no bargains, no fun, no deals, no joy. Truly too bad.

Berthold R.

Yelp
We love thrift stores and this was one of the better one we visited while in Boston. The Badwill stores were a bit disappointing. This one not! Left with a polo and a fantastic pin from the 60ies. Made us very happy!

Kathryn D.

Yelp
Boomerangs has such a cool, unique feel to it that I love walking around here even though I don't consistently buy anything. I used to find clothes here more often, but I've noticed over the past couple of years that the quality has been unfortunately been worse and worse - more items that are stretched, faded, pilled, etc. However, once in a while, I do still come across an unexpected gem. The book selection is much more consistent. You can absolutely tell you're in Cambridge - a lot of interesting non-fiction titles (not just self-help and cookbooks), as well as literary fiction and poetry. It's also worth mentioning that unlike most thrift stores in the area, including Goodwill across the street, Boomerangs does offer furniture. If you happen to be a student, my first recommendation for inexpensive furniture is the MIT Furniture Exchange, but my husband and I have purchased a dresser and desk here, both in very good condition. If you're looking for a place to donate items, the process at Boomerangs is very quick! Just fill out a tax receipt (if desired) and you're on your way. I donate at least once a season, and am always glad to be able to support the AIDS Action Committee.

Margaret W.

Yelp
Funky, fun, professional and friendly staff make every visit enjoyable! I really like the incredible variety of music playing and the merch is great too! Have been donating stuff too now that I see what they offer.

Ethan W.

Yelp
Boomerangs is the best thrift store in Cambrdige/Somerville, mostly because it's competition is really not that great(see the Goodwill's/Salvation Army) First the bad: this is a small store in a busy area that gets pretty busy, cramped and picked over. People come and shop here because unlike the Goodwill across the street it does not smell terrible, employees can play their own music(so its not a staticy pop station on all the time), and are friendly and professional(they have the ability to check people out quickly when it gets busy unlike Goodwill's). Prices vary from cheap to high. While some things start out overpriced, if it doesn't sell it will be marked down and markdowns are not based on a convoluted color system which is nice. They often have nice furniture which I would say is on the pricey side, but it looks like it moves quick so if it is selling at their prices why should they change it? What is also nice is that items are hand priced and for the most part that pricing is logical. The layout and quality of stuff is nice, it's not great for men's clothing and I wouldn't expect to buy something every-time you come in but because it so convenient it's not a big deal to leave here empty handed. While in reality this is more of a 3 star store, relative to the Salvation Army on Winter Hill and the Central Goodwill it's a easy 4 mostly because of it's cleanliness and competent employees(Hey Goodwill, your employees would probably be much more enthusiastic if you didn't treat them like garbage).

Gouri A.

Yelp
I found the perfect coat. What a stroke of luck! They're operating at limited capacity and doing everything they can do make the experience as seemless as possible. They do have some good stuff. Go have a look.

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
I loveeeee this place. I always find really interesting, fun things. Surprisingly, I also find a lot of good-condition brand name clothing (e.g. JCrew, Banana Republic, GAP, etc.). If you're a student, come on Wednesdays for 50% off! Also, be sure to get a stamp card from them if you come often. If you don't want to pay 10 cents for a bag... bring your own! Otherwise they'll give you a paper bag from Shaws and charge you 10 cents (remember this is Cambridge!).

Eric B.

Yelp
Made donations there recently during my '2017 Spring Cleaning.' Recommend that others do so, too. Great volunteers and a worthy cause and mission.

Tracy B.

Yelp
The good: Well curated thrift store. It's not too crowded or overwhelming like some thriftstores can be. I come here a lot to browse but rarely buy much. The bad: it's pretty pricy for second hand goods compared to Goodwill across the street. There is a pretty long wait often at the register for checking out.

Kristine A.

Yelp
New, who needs new? I certainly don't, specially since so many things come from a child in a third world country. Why would i want o be a part of that? I like to come here almost on a weekly basis which is bad but at the same time they have so much stuff that I just can't say no. I guess this one isn't as big as the one in JP but that's ok. I like bringing stuff here that I don't anymore. Then it makes feel better about buying something else. An any day of the week it's hit or miss. But should you find something, snag it because by the next day it will most likely be gone. Since this is a local organization that helps those w/ AIDS I find it to be satisfying that I am helping them in some small way.

Julie M.

Yelp
I love this place! Always find something unique. Especially a fan of the staff's picks and vintage racks. I got a dress here and get at least two compliments per day on it...impressive.

Janny R.

Yelp
Great little 2nd hand store, more upmarket and trendy than Goodwill, with great prices

Lynette K.

Yelp
Great items and serious overall potential. I only wish it were bigger and/or seriously packed. Look carefully around bc there's items in nooks in the walls.

Suzanne W.

Yelp
A great thrift store! I walked out with a $2 Coldplay CD, a $1 pair of Rainbow flip flops and an $8 pair of Cole Haan loafers. Everything here seems well organized, and well priced! They have a 20% student discount on Wednesdays and half price books on Thursdays. The CD section had some really good disc. The housewares section had some beautiful pieces so if you're looking for a dining set, this is the place to go! So much better than Goodwill!

Minh N.

Yelp
I would definitely come back. I found and bought some very affordable furniture there. I also liked how vintage the store was. Shop assistants were very nice and helpful

Daymeyn G.

Yelp
I cannot hold myself from sharing this on the internets...since learning Youth on Fire gets proceeds from Boomerang's I started bringing donations to the Central Square location. My first trip (two years ago) was met with ratchet attitude and distain, and anytime I am met with such HORRID customer service I would vow NOT to return...but I ran a number of clothing drives (the kids loved the fashion things I brought to Harvard, but Youth on Fire ran out of space) and it's for a good cause....so, I held my tongue. But 4/23 at 3:15pm I called Central Square to inquire after a big-ticket donation my company made. As soon as the first gentleman answered the phone I thought I insulted him by saying "Hello, how are you". After a bit of conversation mishaps/misery I was transferred to a female who was as receptive as a roused rattlesnake, and just as helpful. I come to this shop as it is the closest to me & work, but after this frustrating experience I will have to re-examine how/where to make donations....I have not had this type trouble with Second Chances, and they take care of locals too.

Jenny Y.

Yelp
Boomerangs is a small thrift store, but the selection was impressive! Like other reviewers mentioned, I definitely felt pieces were more modern than your typical thrift shop. I was just window shopping, but I spotted a number of mid-century modern style furniture at reasonable prices: dresser for $150, desk for $40, dining table for $120, floor lamps for $20, etc. Some of the smaller random stuff (wooden storage bin for $10, bronze paper towels holder for $6, etc. were really nice too - although I really didn't need anything. My friend scored a like new Banana Republic button down shirt for $6. I would definitely visit more often if I was a local. Staff couldn't be friendlier.

Katy S.

Yelp
I have done business recently with boomerangs. Counter help is outstanding. The kids behind the counter are always so helpful to the elderly and the general Cambridge crazies. Always feel welcome and important as a customer.

Merissa O.

Yelp
1 Vintage dress (perfect size to fit a plus size model) 2 pairs of infant sweatpants 1 vintage leather clutch 1 castiron pot (quality people) 1 large heavy mixing bowl (more quality people) 1 silk shirt 1 lavender polyester skirt (must have) 2 pairs of funky shoes (love'em) 1 toddler winter sweater 2 matching coffee mugs ALL FOR $38.50- I'm an effin' winner people! Enough said. "P.S. I don't buy crap!"

Erika K.

Yelp
Cambridge Boomerangs is great! I always find a couple of neat pieces like dressy pants or blouses that would have cost me 30 bucks otherwise, and they are true to the "gently used" philosophy. The store has the right size and organization to have a good browsing experience without becoming overwhelmed, so I keep coming back!

Gabriela G.

Yelp
Gross! This place has junky items. It's worth a browse because things are priced fairly so you may (though highly unlikely) find something you can work with, or at least cut up and use as kitchen rags?!? I was surprised at how crowded with people this place was. Like a party in there! Junk Fest! Maybe I didn't get the memo!

Shaina P.

Yelp
So, being one of those Cambridge locals means it takes a lot of effort to get out of the hood. When Boomerangs showed up in the old Attic store, (a) I was psyched to get that weird place out of Central Square, but (b) uber confused ... never heard of it ... because I never knew it started in JP and what not... not such a fan of a banner for a sign. Enter: friends of JP. Visiting from out of town, these past-JP residents brightened from their hangovers (or was it mine) when they saw the sign. I just thought it was a strange junk store... and don't get me wrong, it kind of is... but it's really more than junk. It's cool junk that seems qualified to be brought to my home to be used as a container for my cat's food or wear around my waist at thrift store amazing pricing. It's the Home Goods store of thrift shops, doing your home good, but more importantly, your wallet. The find of the day, which I didn't purchase, was a $65 solid wood set of drawers. It was one of those nice wide dressers holding two columns of 4 stacked drawers. Really great condition and enormous enough for two. And if weren't for the two column design, it would have been wide enough to pull a Kramer (when he hosted the Japanese businessmen in his apt). It could use a little paint restoration, but looked like they pre-stripped it for you. They also were selling a couple twin bed frames for $15. $15! Such a steal. Such an appropriate store for our kooky square.

Temporarily J.

Yelp
I love this place. They just opened up maybe a couple of weeks ago, and since I live pretty much right across the street, I've been going in every few days to check it out. It's like a permanent yard sale. It's constantly changing, all kinds of weird and awesome stuff, and it's ridiculously cheap. I got a flour sifter in there for 50 cents, and a stuffed tiger almost as big as my 10-year-old son (for whom I bought it), for a quarter. Seriously. A quarter. This thing seemed almost brand-new, and was like 4 feet long. There was a much smaller lion next to it marked at $2 though, so I don't know what sort of system they have for the "priced-as-marked" stuff, but if you look around, there are some real steals. Oh yeah, and they have clothes and stuff. It doesn't seem like they have a lot of stuff for guys. I'm weird about clothes shopping though, so my opinion here likely won't matter to you. I do a quick scan of everything looking for any of the 5 basic items of black clothing I wear, and if a place doesn't have them, I move on. In this place, it takes me about 5 minutes to make my clothing scan, and I have yet to find something I like. But at least I know that when that perfect size medium black suit vest with lots of pockets shows up on the rack, it'll only be $3, so i can snatch it up quickly, so I'll keep scanning. One word of advice: they have a pretty much constantly changing selection of CDs, which you should totally check out.. Before buying one though, make sure the disc is actually in there. I bought two CDs the first time I went in, and when I got home, one of the CDs was missing. Obviously, I should have checked while I was still at the store. Oh well. Lesson learnt. Now, some stuff in there is priced more like you might expect in the average used-stuff store. There's usually a couch in the window (it seems to be a different couch each time I go, but I could be wrong) the price has fluctuated from between $150 and $300 so far, which sounds out of line with their pricing elsewhere in the store, but these were all really sweet, plush couches with no stains. The one they had in there yesterday looked all antique and shit. Velvet I think, with lots of old fashioned lacy stuff going on. There seems also to be a coffee-table-of-the-day, which if memory serves (which it often doesn't- beware) has ranged in price from $15 up to maybe $25. Nothing too fancy there so far, but all sturdy, clean and unkitschy. They also had a brand-new, plastic-still-on-the-box Apples to Apples game for $8. Yoink! One area where I haven't noticed a lot of turnover so far is their small electronics department. There were some video cameras (I only really picked up one to look at, and the battery was missing), and I didn't look at the prices on them. Those sold, but everything else in that section seems to have been the same each time I've gone. There a coffee maker, and some Foreman-style grills. I think I saw a panini press and some kind of tea maker? It looked like a coffee maker but had a porcelain tea pot instead of a carafe. That stuff's all still there. I'll likely be exploring that section in more detail later, in which case I'll update this. Anyway, bottom line: I love this store, and I hope they stick around in Central Square a long, long time. I'll keep going in there to see what's new today, and I kind of hope you do too. What seems to make this place so awesome is how quickly there's always new stuff. So go buy something and make room for something I want.

Anthony L.

Yelp
I have never actually bought anything from this Boomerangs (however, the Boomerangs in JP is great -- they have the best assortment of ties!) but I really love the company. This location is extremely clean and has a bunch of stuff (mostly women clothes). However, their house section has really neat nick-nacks and a pretty hefty book section. Come in, stay for five minutes, and find a new hidden treasure. Part of the proceeds go to HIV/AIDS and the company employs many folk who live in the city and students... seriously, what a great cause. Keep on truckin', Boomerangs. Shop here before you go to Goodwil across the street.

H B.

Yelp
My favourite thrift store! It makes me a little sad to post this review because I don't want too many people to find out about my favourite place to thrift shop. But all for a great cause for the AIDS committee :) I've found lots of clothing pieces that I absolutely adore from this shop. I love checking out the kitchen supplies as well. P.s. They'll be switching to a new (computer based?) loyalty program, but details haven't been pegged down yet. Bring in those little cards soonish if you have them!

Emily R.

Yelp
Im no thrift store expert...I was actually a thrift store virgin until coming into Boomerangs last weekend, but I think I will be seeking out thrift stores much more now! I walked in, and the girls all said hello from behind the counter, good vibes. I was freezing and it was rainy out, that is why I stopped in, I needed a cheap sweater and fast. Well I found a lot of cheap sweaters and cute ones too! I ended up looking at everything in the store because I was shocked by the fair quality of things for the super cheap prices...(again I was a thrift store virgin).... I found their jewelry selection to be really cute. i got a pair of earrings and a necklace. My boyfriend also found an Ipod charger he had needed for 4 dollars. We checked out, the cashier was really nice, and we got a entry into some raffle they were holding! woo! I dont hate it.

Salem F.

Yelp
Love it here! It just opened last week and I scored a relatively new (and dry cleaned, as tags from dry cleaning were still on there) Ann Taylor dress for a wedding for $12! I was pretty psyched. I also bought a rubber ducky for 50 cents :) I will be visiting more often now that it's close to my work.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I was really impressed with the quality of the clothes. They're really small and all profit goes to, I believe, AIDS research. Unfortunately, at the time of the visit I was unable to ball out of control like I would've liked, BUT I DID FINALLY FIND WOOL MITTENS WITH CUT OFF THUMBS AND FINGER TIPS THAT TRANSFORM INTO MITTENS WHEN IT'S BRICK AS FUCK OUTSIDE! They're a bit of a hole-in-a-wall but totally worth a visit.

Dee P.

Yelp
Occasional furniture/fabric/art that seems like a good score. Decent books, lots of DVDs. Rarely anything else good, and I visit often. Selection is tiny, quality poor and prices tend toward the high. Start donating better stuff, people! Very seldom there is a nice-looking dress or suit in a size 2 or 4. It does not, however, stink like Sally's or Goodwill. So really 2 1/2 stars.

Jamie C.

Yelp
Love this Boomerangs location! I've found other locations to be abbot pricier, and this one usually has some pretty great finds for a great price- with profits going to the AIDS Action Committee. Can be kind of hit or miss depending on the day, but definitely worth a shot checking out for gently used clothing, housewares, and books.

Dorothy W.

Yelp
All books are now 50% off on Thursdays, and they have a new frequent buyer card which gets you 30% off eventually. And....they are now open on Sundays again. This place is clean, well managed and the sound track continues to entertain the entire population of shoppers. (You will see some rather eclectic shoppers in here; I am sure the staff could tell some very interesting stories. What have I seen in the few times I have been in? One very old, practically nude lady coming out of the dressing room, two people arguing loudly and endlessly that the prices are way too high and that they know more than the staff about pricing and three people trying to steal things. ) I recently picked up two NYT best sellers and a 5 star cookbook I have been craving for the grand total of $3.00. Nice. This Boomerang's proximity to The Dosa Factory often means you will leave smelling like Indian food. After a quick trip the other day, I got home and had to toss everything in the wash. Everything was saturated with the aroma of curry.

Esther Z.

Yelp
Sigh, how I miss the thrift stores in NYC. Boomerangs though is probably the closest I'll get to one in the Cambridge area. Leather skirt for 5 bucks? Solid. Men's blazer for 15? Done. Go with an open mind and you'll never know what you'll run into.

Devon R.

Yelp
Cuter/more unique finds than goodwill, also doesn't smell overwhelmingly like human piss which is a big plus. And everything was reasonably priced which is hard to find with trendy thrift stores.

Melinda G.

Yelp
When I discovered Boomerangs was opening in Central Square, I was stoked. Its not entirely easy for me to get out to the JP one, and while I love Boomerangs Special Edition, getting there also requires a bit of planning. I scored some great finds on my first visit, including a couple of adorable strapless dresses. While there I inquired as to when they would be taking donations, as the website says they are not taking any at this time. The staff (also super super nice!) said they took donations any time they were open. Upon hearing this, I likely let out some sort of whoop and told them they would be seeing a lot more of me. And then I went on my merry way with my new-to-me purchases. I've been in the process of cleaning out my closets and frankly I'm sick of looking at stacks of crap I've piled in the hallway to giveaway. I cleaned out yet another closet, and because Boomerangs takes books and DVDs and housewares, I was able to amass quite a drop and was a little nervous they would tell me I couldn't give drop off that much on a busy Saturday afternoon or something. Nonsense. They were awesome. I'll be donating everything to Boomerangs for now on not only because its convenient, but it supports the AIDS Action Committee AND because I love shopping there. I always find some of the best stuff, both vintage and otherwise. The staff is great and the way the goods are merchandised is exceptional.
