Boondocks Grille and Draft House

Boondocks has been our go-to since 2014, but the last visit in 2023 wasn't that great. We decided to give it another chance. The bartender didn't look happy to see us at 8 pm when they are open until 10 pm. He explained he worked a double. Ok, well, we could take our money elsewhere, but we decided to stick it out. And regretted it because the grouper was so overcooked. They charge way too much for grouper now to overcook it. The mango balsamic salsa was completely different from how it used to be and didn't taste very good. Looking back through my reviews, I can see from the photos how much better the food used to be. 11 years was a good run, but time for us to find a new go-to.

Stopped at Boondocks Grille on the way through the Keys and it was a fun surprise! The salad was massive—super fresh and really tasty. Fries were crispy and hit the spot. Bonus points for the mini golf course out back—great for a quick game and a break from the drive. We stopped in for a few drinks and appetizers. The fish dip was very tasty. The Happy Hour onion rings were great, a large portion, and only $6.50. Our server Jaden did a great job taking care of us.

So disappointed, family talked this place up but my food had to be sent back, the Reuben meat was dry and crunchy, totally inedible. I struggled with a salad with not enough dressing. This is the second time I couldn't eat the food, first trip ordered scallops but they were raw, which can kill people, sent them back and the replacements were even more raw. Wonder how many people they have killed. Others liked their appetizers but nobody could eat their entrees due to bad cooking. Wife had wings but could only eat three and left the rest on the plate because they were not good. Onion rings also known as grease sponges leave a coating in your mouth that ruins all other tastes. The cheese curds were so bland and tasteless, might as well eat the napkins too. They liked the bang shrimp, but too spicy and everyone got heart burn and acid reflux. The fries were ok for $20 fries. Notice the paleness of the sauced wings, something is not right. You can see the crunchy meat in the Reuben. Lots of good restaurants around. Wasn't busy for our lunch but they are set up to handle large parties. Different sections for different seating (backed chairs v bench seating). The waitress was attentive but not overwhelming, the food was good and the portions large. We had the loaded chips and stuffed large nushroom, and a Cobb salad (loaded house). Enjoyable and convenient 😊 Perhaps the house music could co.e down just a little for lunch👍

Food was great and the atmosphere is really cool. The coconut shrimp tasted great and they had multiple fresh catch options instead of just one. The only reason I can’t leave a 5 is that the service was incredibly slow. Our server did her best and was working really hard but either the kitchen was backed up or the staff to patron ratio wasn’t enough.

What a fantastic experience at Boondocks. The food was delicious, but HID was what made our experience even more special. Her fun, enthusiastic, and kind personality made our dining experience. The LobsterMac was exquisite. The Bang Bang Shrimp and the Seafood dip was outstanding. Go now. Do not hesitate.

The gift shop is very well stoked my grandaughter wanted to gift me and even thou my size was not available the clerk BK searched everywhere and found something very similar with a great big smile on her face. A1A

I had the Bacon Ranch Chicken Sandwich and Ranch Bacon Potato Salad. It was soooooo good. The chicken was deep fried perfection and the potato salad was one of the best potato salads I've had. I also had a key lime colada which was very light and tastey. Husband and the double bacon burger and fries and cleaned his plate!

We stopped in for a quick pitstop on our way to Key West. This restaurant, bar, and grill is awesome and huge. Lots of parking, plenty of seating for dining and at the bar. They have decent enough prices on their food and drink and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We didn't dine here but we stopped in for a quick drink and to use the restroom. They have plenty of TVs available to watch the big game and there is also a gift shop available if you forgot something you might need for you trip to Key West. All-in-all, great spot to enjoy dinner with family and friends or just to pop in for a beer and the big game

First the good My beautiful wife both enjoyed their take on bang bang shrimp & their house made chips as well as the Mediterranean pasta salad my wife really enjoyed. The appetizer & food was run from the kitchen quickly & hot. Now the not so good Her chicken bacon ranch sandwich was so drowned in ranch she had to discard the bread. Their famous potato salad was just so so. Not much flavor & dry. My double cheeseburger with bacon was ordered medium. It was maybe medium rare. It was such a mess I had to knife & fork it. The bad The service we had was HORRIBLE. I realize no one wants to work on Christmas Eve & those that do aren't happy. I spent some of my youth in the restaurant & bar biz so I get it. BUT Our waitress ( I believe her name was Dawn) was to put it mildly inattentive. From needing drink refills to getting our check was a needlessly long ordeal. Her section wasn't busy. We watched a male server by her section zip around & be friendly & present. By the time we were finally able to pay my wife & I who always gives servers the benefit of the doubt were both pretty steamed. We also didn't enjoy the lady bartender on duty verbally abuse the servers because she loudly let it be known several times that she wasn't happy to be there. We drove 40 miles to eat here on the recommendation of a friend & it was NOT worth it. My wife & I both feel a 3 star rating represents the food but not the service.

This place is an absolute gem!! We discovered it on our drive back to Orlando from Key West, but we wish we could have discovered it on the way down as well. It has a cool open concept while still being covered with a tiki hut roof attached to the building. This time of year (summer) is the perfect weather to enjoy that type of atmosphere, even if it's raining, which it was for us. It was a Monday afternoon, so it's was quiet, the service was fast and the food was delicious. I got the bang chicken sandwich, which came out chopped on a hoagie, which presently surprised me but was delightful. You can never go wrong with cheese curds, and theirs were cooked perfectly and paired with strawberry preserve and spicy mustard dips. Sounds weird, but the combo of both sauces with the cheese curd was perfection. You must try this place if you're in the area!!!

We ate dinner here, I enjoyed the crab soup. The server was amazing, super friendly. The kids Mac and cheese was a hit. I also got a blueberry vodka drink from their cocktail menu and it was light and tasty. I loved it being outdoors but covered.

Terrific terrific terrific food here! Wow! Been by this place so many times and finally had the honor of eating here today! All I can say is Chick-fil-A, watch out! These chicken sandwiches were the best we've had! And the coleslaw was to die for! We sat at the bar and had excellent service! Highly recommend, highly!

Food was good. The lobster bisque was ok. We ordered both our lobster bisques in a bread bowl and got mine in a bowl. I ordered ranch dressing for my wings and got blue cheese instead. Service a little slow. Heidi was nice. Nice ambiance.

Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday amid live music and their taco Tuesday special . 2 tacos and sides for 10 bucks . We opted to order off the menu starting w fish dip and a couple specialty cocktails . Our server America ( yes that's her name ) was fantastic. I added hogfish with mango and balsamic drizzle and my wife went for coconut shrimp . The hogfish was very good as were the butterflies shrimp . Premium sides of the pasta salad and bacon potato salad were added . They both seemed homemade . We were too full for dessert but they have great options including key lime pie .

This is a fun place for lunch and a family activity. We popped in here for lunch and miniature golf on our way from Marathon to Key West. Place was packed but we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Everyone enjoyed their food. The triple fin special was tasty, good portion too. The golf course was fine. Nothing special but fun and a few challenging holes.

This was a place across the street from where we were staying and was a fun place to get dinner. We came rather late but the waitress was really nice about our orders and drinks. I got the blackened chicken sandwich which was very good and the cole slaw was a good side as well. The place was very open and is outdoors so it seems like it would be a fun place when they have activities going on.

We came to play singo bingo and the place was pretty busy. We asked the hostess if we could sit somewhere to play and she sat us in the bar area and said we could play there. Only one problem you could not play there. They had another radio playing and you could not hear the game. Decided since were there might as well eat some food which was good and quick. Service was super slow and it took a while to get our check. Tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was busy with a bunch of tables. But there was another waiter there that was waiting on the other half of the tables. Over all would not recommend.

We come here quite often for happy hour, the bang bang shrimp is our absolute favorite! Food is fresh and always delicious

Love this place! The strawberry sauce that comes with the cheese curds is like THE BEST thing I've ever tasted lol but I do love sweet stuff! I also had the Key lime martini and it was amazing as well! We loved this spot! Plus, there's a mini golf course connected to the restaurant &all open til 10!

Stayed on Cudjoe key for a few days and drove past this place a bunch during that time. Looked like a fun place to go.. largest tiki bar in the keys you say? I'm here for it! The end result first.. fun place to come grab some drinks and appetizers and then maybe some golf.. but that's it. We really enjoyed the loaded waffle chips and the onion rings. The drinks were made well and there was a nice selection of beer. However the entrees fell a little short. When you eat at most any place in the keys.. "fresh" is the first thing you expect. The coconut shrimp tasted like something off of the Sysco truck, and while the grouper *might* have been fresh.. the Picatta sauce, not so much. We were pretty disappointed in the food, so we decided to cheer ourselves up with a round of mini golf which was fun.. Definitely recommend this if you're into that sort of thing!

This was a last resort restaurant we had to go to..wait time was average for a pretty busy night! I think the staff was nice and attentive as best they could be. Food took awhile to come out but when it did it was fresh and very good no complaints really. Only downside is sitting outside with mosquitoes..maybe add more fans or bug repellent? Overall it was a good place to hang out and eat will come back in the future. Thank you!!

Love this place! Great food, great staff. Live music every night. Perfect place for brunch, there is a farmers market on saturdays and Bloody Mary specials. They even have mini golf. It's a huge place indoor/outdoor seating.

Good service and was close to our motel. Live music. Had that Florida beachy feel and right on the water. My lobster roll was good too! I can see why the place is packed all the time

This place was an awesome stop for us. The food was great and compared to others places that we visited the food here was way better. The service was also wonderful. The server was attentive and had great recommendations for food. Because it was an open restaurant, there was no AC and was a little warm but was fine with the fans. The restaurant deserves more than a 3.5 stars.

Played two rounds of mini golf, and had a ton of fun! A great activity to do when looking for something different to do for the day!

We played miniature golf. $14.95 for adults for 18 holes. If you keep your ball you can play a second round for $3.95. They have a bar when you buy the ball token so you can get a beer or cocktails while you play. The course is very well maintained and seemed new. Open 7 days a week 10 am- 10 pm. Went next door to the gift shop and used the Grille & Draft house restroom.

Miniature Golf review only (had seen the gift shop (Meh) and the menu (seemed okay - but no view of anything) Golf: Pretty standard Fun Not overly challenging or spectacular $14+ per (2nd game could be another $4) ...I just didn't find the course worth it. Clean place - Very family friendly

You should avoid this place. Service is extremely terrible. They told us a table would be ready in 30 minutes. After an hour waiting, I went to ask how much longer. After being ignored by the first guy, the next person said we were 3rd on the list. An hour and a half into our wait, I went to check again. The host said we were now 2nd on the list and the reason they weren't seating us is because the kitchen staff is "f.cked" tonight, but it would be soon. Went back up after waiting 2 hours and was told even if they seated us, it would be a 45 minute wait for food and by then the kitchen would be closed. Absolutely terrible experience and rude people. Highly recommend you avoid this place. We left with no dinner, but luckily found Boardwalk Bar and Grill on Big Pine Key. The staff was extremely friendly, atmosphere was great, food was delicious, and service was quick. Save yourself a headache and avoid Boondocks.

Amazing band, food and service. We had the hamburger which was well seasoned and delicious. French dip was awesome too. Crunchy French fries. We highly recommend !!!

Very disappointed! Food was sub par and overpriced, even for the keys. Ordered the bacon ranch Mac and cheese and added blackened chicken because I love good scratch Mac. What came out was a few ounces of Velveeta Mac with a couple scraps of bacon bits and a few ounces of a flavorless white protein, drizzled with Ranch dressing for $23.00. They somehow managed to screw up Mac and cheese!?!??? Halfway through I added a metric ton of pepper and some salt to try and help but to no avail. Still flavorless. They need to use real cheese, salt, pepper, other spices while cooking and increase the portion size. Onion rings! Yup, they screwed these up as well. They make them with a tempura batter, assuming they are scratch made. Again no flavor at all. An onion ring should be edible/ flavorful on its own. You shouldn't have to douse it in a dipping sauce in order to eat them. Fish dip. Don't know if it was house made or not. Living in the keys I've had lots of fish dip. This dip was the worst so far, flavor wise, I'm sorry to say. Some of the accoutrements like onion, tomato and jalapeño are separate and not included mixed into the dip. This is probably why it wasn't tasty as you need those flavors to meld into the dip. It was also served with pre packaged crackers that were mostly broken. Mixed drinks were decent. Had a margarita on the rocks with a premium crystal anejo tequila. Service was good, quick. Bartender attentive and helpful. Atmosphere is cool with the tiki hut styling. Overall, not worth the drive.

We went here last night for dinner. Sam was our server and she was the best server we've had in the Keys! She was amazing. We got clam chowder in a bread bowl, Caesar salad, wings and garlic, parm fries. Everything was great. Totally recommend this place.

Not sure what has changed over the past 2 or so years but they have stepped up their game! The food is consistently spectacular! Staff are always friendly and attentive and we are level left waiting and wondering where our food is. To boot, having live music is the best part of the dining experience. Fantastic!!! One of our favorite parts about Boondocks is the holiday meals they offer. It's just my husband and I and we don't really do anything special for Thanksgiving or New Year's. They host a meal for those holidays which are in the spirit of the food associated with those celebrations. I only wish they would offer than pecan pie they serve at Thanksgiving year round because it is off the chain!

We are locals , would not e Recommend this restaurant to anyone . Terrible service. Server did not put our order in after 45 minutes . My son did get his food however cold my wife and I didn't get our food, do yourself a favor and and go somewhere else.

No vegan options. They cannot make anything on the menu vegan but fries. They shared everything is Pre made so the vegetable sandwich cannot be made without the cheese or glaze. It's disappointing that all competition has more to offer in the area for vegan folks and there is not a thing for a vegan person on this menu. We came as a family so we enjoyed the mini golf and the rest of my family enjoyed eating while I got to drink beer and eat French fries. The mini golf course was fun activity to do together despite being starving by the time we left. Just sharing this review so other vegans don't have to waste the time learning themselves when they don't get to eat dinner. Also worth sharing, all three people at the table thought the lobster bisque was the worst they had ever had. It didn't get finished just passed around the table but that's how I know it truly was not good.

Food is good, ambience is good, a tad pricey but it is the Keys. So not bad for the area.

Good food, good bar staff and nice outdoor seating. I stopped here with my fiance for lunch and we had a good experience. We ordered a few drinks and a variety of appetizers including conch fritters, seafood stuffed mushrooms, and lobster bisque. The banana berry frozen drink was delicious! My favorite appetizer was the mushrooms. They were perfectly cooked, hot, moist, and flavorful. The hot citrus sauce for the conch fritters really made them pop, unfortunately they had pieces of hard, inedible "something" on them. The lobster bisque was decent, but I've had better. We wanted to play mini golf, but unfortunately it was raining. Rating from a F to A+++ I give it an A- for the plain lobster bisque and weird, hard bits on the conch fritters.

Service was great and watched the Lions game with my besties...thank u for a fun night!

Three stars because the mini golf set up is cute. Minus two because the lady at the front counter is rude. She failed to give directions about getting the ball, etc (you need a coin) and then got frustrated when we tried to figure it out ourselves.

We had the Saturday 2 for 1 special. Wonderful Bloody Marys. Today we stopped by for Boondocks happy hour. Bang Bang Shrimp and the Coconut Shrimp are absolutely delicious. Half price for a large selection of appetizers and $1 off draft and bottled beers as well as a selection of wines. The bartenders are super friendly and the food arrived quickly and hot. Great place.

We escaped the Key West madness and drove north. On our way back, we stopped here to play some mini golf and then, instead of going back into the belly of the beast, decided to eat dinner here (without checking for reviews). Hubby had the half rack of ribs- they were a bit too heavily sauced to his liking but they were fall of the bone as advertised. I had the special flatbread which (fortunately was veggie friendly) Caprese. Full or half portion offered and the full portion was fine as the crust was thin. We each had a cocktail - Painkiller and Mai Tai - nothing remarkable but refreshing. Finally had key lime pie and also chocolate lava cake. Both were very good. And then we hung around for awhile listening to live music. For an unplanned stop, we were very pleased!

Great happy hour and mini golf! Super easy to pass by but we had a great time golfing and then crossed the parking lot for some half priced drinks and apps. The bang bang shrimp were delicious! Service was friendly but they were very busy so not super attentive, but we didn't have trouble flagging someone down if we needed something. Overall we had a great pit stop here and would go back!

Just had lunch at Boondocks and the food was wonderful! The bartender was a complete asshole! Ruined our whole lunch!

It pains me to write this about Boondocks as it has been our go-to place for the past 9 years, and I can't even count how many times we have been here. We can always count on Boondocks for grouper, have almost always been happy with the food, and often go 2 or 3 times, sometimes even 4 on every trip to the Keys. However, this time they raised the prices so high we were stunned. The usual meal and drinks we get, which used to cost us roughly $95-$100 was now $147. And we didn't even get dessert. Boondocks now adds $3 for mango balsamic glaze, and $4 for double vegetables, which brought my entree to $43 for bar food in a tiki hut, and RJ's Caesar salad with grouper to $40. We had fine dining elsewhere between Marathon and Key West with exquisite food and atmosphere for the same price. I get that prices have gone up, but sorry Boondocks, you are just a tiki bar. And yes a good one, but if we are paying $150 for a meal now, we'll go for fine dining with a view any day. OR, go to the grocery store, cook our own! So we made the 1 trip here that week, and then the other 2 or 3 meals where we would have gone back again, we went elsewhere. We might come back for drinks but Boondocks is officially off our go-to list for meals.

DO NOT GET THE GROUPER. Went here with a group of 9 last night and 4 of us got the blackened grouper and GOT VIOLENT FOOD POISONING! Will not be returning.

Was better than expected, something "like" a four. Food was pretty good though I've heard differently; maybe it's because they can be pretty busy, so going on off-peak hours off-peak days probably helps. Not on the water but a fun space, if that matters to you. And plenty of parking whuch is a luxury around here. Hospitality was sufficiently sufficient. On par for the Keys, I guess. Roasted veggie sandwich was good, I'd get that again. Side pasta upgrade was nice. As were those cheesy potato balls, they're not something you see everyday. Drinks somewhat unexpectedly added up, so be careful there.

Went on a Wednesday night, live music was good, food took a little while but won't hills that against them. Waitress was nice, but not too attentive and seemed was were a bother. Burgers were average, one order of Mac and cheese was a very skimpy amount and was bland with not much taste, that was a money maker for them too bad we had to split food up or leave a kid hungry. Drinks were strong so that was a plus. Good job to the bartender. Better portions next time guys!

We have been meaning to stop here and play a round of Mini Golf for quite some time and we are glad we finally did! It was a fun, challenging course for adults and kids alike. They have snow cones, shave ice and typical keys tiki bar food. They are slightly higher priced in their food likely because there are no other restaurants around so we decided not to eat. They did have a great live musician that you can hear through the speakers while you play golf as well! We would definitely come back to play golf again. Most people are wearing masks while playing but everyone stays social distance from other parties so we felt safe playing with our masks on. The staff is all wearing masks. 12.99 plus tax per adult. (Less expensive for kids) Of note, they have a farmers market in the parking lot on Saturday mornings. Also, stop in the bathroom to try the famous hand scrub made here in the keys!

Boondocks is a local staple in the keys, I always have to stop by when I'm down here. They offer live music nightly by local artists. The restaurant is a giant tiki hut that gives you all the Keys vibes you need. Tonight we ordered the cheese curds and they were cheesy and crunchy, they had two side sauces one sweet and one mustardy. The grouper sandwich was delicious and fresh. The burger was cooked and the accommodations were made without any issues. I will always come back to Boondocks when I'm in the keys.

This place was absolutely awesome over the holidays. They had great food, great drinks and live music with a huge crowd. All I can say is thank Hod the Canadian's did not come down this year. The rudest people on the planet. They make New Yorkers and New Jersey people seem polite.

The service was very good, seated immediately and felt welcomed. I ordered the Ruben. Not so good! Tasted very Fishy. The server asked me how it was and I responded by it was very different. I couldn't make what the foul flavor was. I took three bites and left it alone. After that I had no appetite. I paid the full amount, it's not the servers fault the food was bad.

Everything was excellent, food, service, atmosphere, all of it! Very pet friendly with a pet menu! Happy we are renting close by! Highly recommend.​​

I think they are more of a 3 point something rounded up to 4. It is definitely a fun place to hang out. They have live music every day. And I am a sucker for live music. They have ample space; there are 2 seating areas plus the bar. They have a nice list of specialty drinks, frozen drinks, and beers. The service is friendly and professional. We ordered the Southwestern Egg Rolls as an appetizer. These were a tad burnt. For my main entree, I ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi topped with mango salsa and sweet balsamic glaze. I chose the mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables as sides. I loved it. It was extremely delicious. I would definitely come back.
