The Boothbay Foot Bridge is part of the local flavor here - a 1,000 foot wooden pedestrian bridge that connects one side of the harbor to the other (and apparently saves you from a near mile walk around the head of the harbor). The short walk across offers beautiful views of the water and various boats, and both sides have a parking lot, some benches, and are surrounded by an abundance of lovely flora.
The original bridge was built in 1901 by Luther Maddocks for $1,500. It had a hand-operated crank that opened the bridge to allow big boats to pass through. As another reviewer mentioned, the bridge has been rebuilt/renovated many times over the years due to ice and bad weather. Absolutely take the time to come walk across here -- spots like this feel like Maine to me!
