The Rise and Rise of Regenerative Safaris | Vogue

"In northern Kenya, this conservancy delivered a high-adrenaline yet conservation-led moment: approaching a hillside where seven rhinos were grazing, I followed Rianto, the anti-poaching head of security, as he chambered a round in his AK-47 and led us single-file, watching for cape buffalos and lions; when a handful of sand showed the wind was blowing toward a temperamental black rhino, we held back and observed the critically endangered animals from a distance—a clear example of regenerative safari in practice." - Nicole Kliest

"Paragliding over Borana's dusky mountains Find safari trucks a bit too tame? Want a more exhilarating way to witness Kenya's amazing wildlife? You'll want to give paragliding at Borana Lodge a go then. Located in northern Kenya, registered tandem-paraglider Hunter Marrian will get you all kitted out at the lodge and then, weather depending, whisk you off a mountain top to watch Kenya billow out below whilst you glide along in the skies."

Exceptional ***** I travel all over the world and enjoy both boutique and 5-star resorts. Borana is different in the best possible way. The team lead by Tatiana is different Our guide Patrick is different The lodge, food and hospitality is as good it gets for a Safari lodge And in the end, The Borana Conservancy land and animals are up close and personal which you just can't get on public lands.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Safari Experience That Exceeded Every Expectation My wife and I have traveled extensively across five continents, but nothing prepared us for the magic of Borana Conservancy and Lodge. This isn't just a safari destination—it's a masterclass in how hospitality, conservation, sustainability, and authentic African wilderness should come together. The lodge is architecturally stunning, with grass hut roofs; it is built organically into the rock of a small mountain, creating an intimate connection with the landscape that feels both age-old and luxurious. Every suite offers privacy and breathtaking views as the sun rises over the conservancy. But the real soul of Borana is its people. The staff doesn't just serve; they genuinely care. You can feel the empowerment in every interaction, from warm morning greetings to thoughtful gestures that anticipate needs you didn't know you had. Speaking of which, Millie, the property manager, should be teaching case studies at hospitality schools worldwide. She's created a culture where excellence isn't just expected—it's celebrated and lived by every team member. The culinary experience deserves its own standing ovation. Every meal features locally grown ingredients transformed into dishes that honor Kenyan flavors yet satisfying the most discerning palates. Fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious. And then there's Peter, our game drive guide during the stay. His encyclopedic knowledge, passion for conservation, and ability to read the bush made us feel like privileged witnesses to nature's greatest stories. He didn't just show us animals—he helped us understand the intricate ecosystem we were fortunate enough to observe. If you're considering Borana, stop considering and start calling. Some experiences change how you see the world. This is one of them.

What an absolute privilege to spend a week horseback riding through borana. I was absolutely speechless when trying to explain to people back here in nz, what it was like. No words can explain the most incredible experience of my life. To Milli, John and all the incredible staff at borana who made my experience surreal, I owe you so much. I do hope I get to return one day soon, and enjoy once again what is a very special place.

There is no photo or video that can show how amazing Borana Lodge truly is. From the amazing staff (thank you Millie, Francis, Sam, Osman, Jack, Catherine), to the rooms, activities and food. They always had great vegetarian options. I've been on many trips, this one by far was the best. If you get the chance to enjoy this lovely place, please do. We enjoyed the horse riding and all of the many many great activities. Thank you for making our holiday so very special!

I've just returned from a trip where we stayed in Borana Lodge. The accommodation, location, food & drinks were all 5 stars. What sets this place apart from others is their staff. The staff are so kind, hospitable, warm, caring - the list goes on. Mike took such care of us during our lunches, Sam made our delicious cocktails and Francis took us on our drives throughout the conservancy. That's only mentioning a few - every single staff member went above and beyond always. Thank you for the best memories Borana Lodge, see you soon!

I have travelled extensively - both to remote intrepid locations and stayed at some high-end hotels. Without question my stay and experience at Borana ranks amongst the highest - influenced by the incredible proximity of the wildlife (we watched as vets tended an injured lion) and the luxury of the rooms that are unpretentious, echoing harmoniously the environment and offering stunning views. Above all what makes this special place stand out is the genuine warmth and respect from every staff member that we encountered - taking Borana Lodge to the next level of personalised professionalism and luxury status that is so extremely hard to genuinely create. We were made to feel that we mattered, and every need was considered. The fact that despite challenges I confronted, including a terrible experience with the travel agent prior, lost luggage throughout my stay and a hurt back whilst horse riding, I still feel I had the most incredible trip shows how amazing the staff and the tranquillity of the Borana bubble is for those who need respite, luxury and adventure.

We had the most incredible time at Borana Lodge. This was our second time staying with our young daughter and my sister in laws family and we couldn't recommend it more. We have made the most magical family memories here with the hope to return one day soon and make more! Everything from the team, the activities, the food, the location/landscape, the rooms/lodge were all beyond perfection. The whole team made such a effort to ensure our stay was fun, adventurous but also truly relaxing. Our guide Peter was full of knowledge and keen to teach us all that he knew, everyday we learnt something new. The highlight has to be seeing lions hunt impala, spotted hyenas with a kill and the beautiful sundowner spots he took us to everyday. The riding is amongst the best we have done in Kenya, the horses are beautiful and the wide open plains makes riding alongside wildlife outstanding. Our room was stunning, with views overlooking a rolling hills and a dam, where we could spot wildlife going for a drink. We also went fly-camping, sleeping in the wild was such a special experience and to experience this with our daughter was just so cool! She was full of excitement (as were we) as soon as we arrived to camp underneath the old Acacia trees. You will not regret booking a stay at Borana, there is something for everyone and what makes this place extra unique is the outstanding team, we cannot thank them enough for our trip of a lifetime. Asante Sana x
