Mary Beth Barone’s Grub Street Diet

"Our favorite neighborhood taco spot, Border Burrito, closed earlier this year, and Jake and I lamented its loss while weighing the risks and rewards of getting tacos elsewhere." - Rima Parikh, Sarah Kilcoyne

Google
Efficient small place to take away and during warm days has stand table to eat outside Food is just crazy tried buritto, soft & grilled shell taco this place deserves Micheline star for combination of small area efficiency convenience in a matter of making order and of course food itself, staff is always friendly. Priced more than reasonably just under $15 more than enough to feed a hungry man or even be shared.

Google
Edit: inconsistent portion sizing and quality (1st and 3rd time had much less filling, 3rd time beans were hard and tortilla not toasted, 2nd time was good). $12 for the chicken burrito & platter (price includes taxes!). In my opinion, the burrito is a better deal than the platter. Same fillings, just minus the tortilla. Note that the burrito is quite messy to eat, but pretty good - the tortilla is greasy but toasted lightly, and the spicy salsa actually has a good kick. The second time I ordered here, the chicken is quite tender (it was a bit dry the first time).

Google
I used to order tacos a couple times a week, it use to be abundant and generous. It’s clearly not anymore. First time I thought it was occasional and just bad luck, but tried a couple more times and as time passes by, the less they fill these tacos. That’s how you lose customers 👏

Google
They have a Self serve counters as no one takes your order. And they are actually pretty quick, the food was hot and so delicious! I was a bit weary because of some reviews, but I have no complaints! Service was great, I did do an online order and they tripled checked to make sure it was my order when I went to pickup. The employees were very nice and the service was top notch. Food was so good, so much meat and it had so much flavour. I’ve had the burrito as well and it is so filling! Definitely recommend going here if you’re craving some great food ! 🌮🌯

Google
What about cilantro? Is that a reasonable amount? EVERY time I buy from here I gotta have cilantro in my place cause I know you’re using almost none You barely use cilantro and onion why is that? no budget?

Google
This is my go to place when I have a craving for quesadillas or tacos. They’re open late. The prices are amazing. Their food is delicious. I can’t recommend them enough. We need more places that make getting food this easy and delicious.

Google
Honestly the food is one of the best hidden gems. The menu is simple and exactly what you need. Its basically a walk in window where you come in, get your food and leave. So simple yet so good

Amrita N.

Google
This hidden gem is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Mexican flavors! It’s a tiny, unassuming spot with no dine-in, just takeout, but the food speaks for itself. The menu is limited to just a few options, but everything we tried was absolutely delicious and transported us straight back to the streets of Mexico. With a small parking lot on the side, it’s convenient and so worth it. We’ll definitely be returning for more!

Yelp
I have had a few meals from Border Burrito on separate occasions. From tonight's meal I'm going to drop my rating. When they first opened, everything was made from scratch. Fresh ingredients. Delicious Mexican food. I notice today that they serve prepackaged things now. The salsa and cream cheese came prepackaged. Zero zest. Zero flavour. The lettuce / cabbage reminded me of pre-cut prepackaged salad. The shredded chicken Tinga was dry and difficult to chew. Again, flavourless.

Yelp
I've seen this place on my feed lately, decided to check it out after work. Just off Boundary & 29th. Plenty of parking around. It's mainly a pick up order type place. I ordered on the tablet and my order came out fairly fast. They have a bench out front and a bar type table. I ate my queso tacos with chicken spicy, it was good, cheesy meat provably could have use more flavour but it hit the spot and craving I was having. The green sauce and sour cream was a good add on. I ordered my husband a burrito he enjoyed it. Spent about $31 tax and tip, Overall it was good, I would come again.

Yelp
Border Burrito is a tiny outpost on Boundary Rd @ 29th Ave. I had originally tipped off a friend about it. He went & tried it out, as he often passes by here heading home. He reported back - 'I like it!' So then it was my turn. Keep in mind that this is a tricky location to get to depending on which way you get here - it's at a T-junction. BB is a pickup & go set up. When you walk in you will be self ordering your items via the computer screen & then tapping to pay. Do not bring cash! You will get a print out of your order & it will have a number on it. You will wait just outside of the door & you will hear your number called out when its ready, via the loud booming speaker above your head. For my drinks I pop into the Indian butchery next-door that sells limited import drinks & snacks. I pick up my Fanta from here. By the time I get back to BB, my order is usually ready. The tacos are good. I usually get the Quesabirria. However, make not that they do not offer Consomé. A very simple no frills efficient setup. Bravo!

Yelp
Surprisingly good Mexican takeout place in the curvy building where Boundary turns into 29th/Joyce. Don't let the dumpy exterior fool you. Parking is available in a lot next to the building, as well as the side streets. The place is literally just takeout. The inside is just a small standing area and a counter. No seats at all. There is exactly 1 standing table (no chairs) out in front. Staff are friendly and helpful. Special mention. Food is quite reasonably priced. I had the quesa tacos. Nice and filling, and loaded with melted cheese. As the place is takeout only, the guacamole and sour cream were served in large packets. Good enough for me. The food was juicy and super messy to eat. Thank goodness for napkins. I'd definitely come back for a Mexican fix. Recommended.

Yelp
While a bit hard to get to without a car, Border Burrito is one of my go-to taco places. My favourite from them is their Queso Beef Burria Tacos. Not only do they come with a healthy amount of sauces and salsa, but the tacos themselves are just fantastic. As a bit of a warning, there is no real place to eat your food save for a little standing set up outside the restaurant, so do keep in mind this is more of a place for takeout in my opinion. Border Burrito isn't just good by Vancouver standards, it's great in general! Highly recommend for Mexican food lovers.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from this spot and got two beef birria tacos--one with mild salsa and one with spicy salsa. Both were delicious! I'll definitely be ordering from here again.

Yelp
Not bad for a grab n go spot. You go in and place your order via a touch-screen kiosk then wait outside for your food. There is no seating inside. Quesa tacos: Flavourful, but a bit dry so be sure to use all the sour cream & salsa it comes with. Beef birria burrito: so filling...stuffed with beans, rice and meat. Salsa: Even though I like spicy, I recommend the mild salsa. The spicy salsa had an unpleasant taste.

Yelp
This spot is a must for Birria tacos!!! In my top three for sure in Vancouver. This is a small take out joint that has a high top outside that you can congregate around to eat on the spot or you can just take it to go. We ate ours immediately, on a cold night eating cheesy juicy and flavourful Birria was truly perfect. The beef wasn't dry at all, and there was a ton of cheese, some alittle crispy which I love!! We also got the Spicy salsa and it was hoooot which I really appreciated as most places don't give you the spice factor. They nailed it! Everyone was super happy with their order and they came out fast! Need to go back to try a burrito asap!

Yelp
Cool self-serve kiosk - this is a micro kitchen and there is no-dine in or seating. Take out only, and there is a long table outside, but there is no overhead cover, so I wouldn't recommend unless it's warm outside. Quesa tacos were pretty good, with a good portion beef inside. It can get a bit dry, so I'd use a generous portion of sauce or salsa. Burrito was pretty packed with toppings too.

Yelp
A new friend of mine introduced me to this place while we were working together. It is a small, hole in the wall type of outlet that you wouldn't notice unless someone made you aware of it. I found the alliterative name quite amusing as it apparently refers to their location situated between the cities of Vancouver and Burnaby, but alludes to the line dividing Mexico and the USA. I ordered their flagship burrito, which was filled with the advertised ingredients and wholesomely delicious. I was piqued to learn that cheese could only be added for $2. The $12 base rate already included beans, rice, meat, and vegetables, as well as salsa and cream. Customers had the ability to omit ingredients without a discount. So what is so special about cheese that it costs 2 more dollars? Further to that, they have a $10 Taco Tuesday promotion which is only available on orders placed online. We visited the shop on a Tuesday, but were ineligible for the coupon because we ordered in-store. Since the customer is entering the order themselves, it should make no difference if they do so on their own device via the website, versus the self-serve kiosk in the lobby. The coupon code is even posted on the wall in the building, which does customers there no good.

Yelp
Quick and convenient service but only take outs. Parking lot on the side and bus at walking distance but not a very accessible area unless you drive or live close. Good texture and tastes really good. Not the best taco I've had in general or even in Vancouver but it's a close top 2 or 3. Burrito is big and full of ingredients. It wouldn't mind going again if I'm nearby but not something I'd travel for.
google avatar

Eunice L.

Yelp
Love it! Good portion sizes and they've got all the salsas/Mexican creams you need. All the food was beautifully presented and the taste was so delicious - I'll be back! On Taco Tuesdays they have a discount for their tacos. Parking can be a bit difficult to decide on depending on what side of Boundary you're heading up on. For the most optimal route it's easiest to to drive along Boundary south bound to be able to stop here easily.

Yelp
I had a pick up order, they were really fast on it! Did not leave me waiting haha You can't really sit inside, just order basically, but they do have a standing bench you can eat ur food outside. But I took mine to-go/pick up. When I got home it smelled really good. I got the chicken tinga quesadilla. It filled me up! Comes with sour cream and mild salsa. I added the hot salsa on the side for extra. I thought it was gonna be like a medium spice but it was spicy! A good kick that's for sure! Lol lil spicy for me but I enjoyed it, nonetheless. Would recommend it! It's wallet friendly I'd say :) I ordered the birria beef tacos the next day. I got it without cheese. I added extra cream on the side and hot salsa.it Taste yummy! It's flavourful, got me full. I would order again maybe with the cheese next time :)

Yelp
Really had high hopes for this Neighbourhood joint and there's not many around let alone Mexican. I was just in the US for two weeks so Ive had some excellent Mexican and unfortunately this didn't live up. Had the chicken burrito, it was dry and the rice wasn't great. It was tasty but not worth going again
google avatar

Yelp
System is down and they can't refund. Worst service ever. Don't offer order ahead if you can't control your system. Owner has no idea what is going on.

Yelp
Portions are huge. I'm a big eater and I was full after eating half of this burrito. Absolutely enjoyed this meal and will definitely be going back 5/5 for getting the hang out of your buck 3/5 in terms of flavours it wasn't anything that made me go wow. Don't get me wrong it was still super tasty and delicious! Maybe I got the wrong thing but I'll definitely be going back to try again
google avatar

Yelp
Got the burrito and the nachos. The burrito is pretty dry because there isnt any sour cream inside it and to add sour cream you have to add extra. The burrito itself is already expensive so not worth it. The nachos has too much black beans and just honestly basic. The spread of the cheese should be better so that each tortilla chips got the cheese. Well the black bean covers it all but its too much too so a no for me. Not recommended from me. Chipotle is way better. Cheers!

Juan G.

Yelp
Went there with the wife tonight. Ordered the chicken tacos and chicken quesadilla. I understand that they have a limited menu, but the toppings on the tacos were not up to expectation . Not not enough onions or any for that matter. Toppings are simple and do no justice to a true quick taco. The salsa tasted like canned tomatoes with a hint of curry. The chicken seemed more like pulled pork style. Decent for what it was but definitely not authentic. This place is good if you want something besides McDonald's at midnight. $3 can of coke! Pass!

Yelp
I am so so glad that I finally tried Border Burrito! I've driven past it many times but finally decided to go last night. My boyfriend and I really wanted to try it but we didn't know that they don't have seating inside, luckily I live really close by. For myself I got the beef tacos ($11) and my boyfriend got the beef burrito ($12). My beef tacos consisted of soft shell corn tortillas, slow cooked beef, cilantro and onions and mexican cream on the side since I didn't want any spicy salsa. The burrito also came with the same thing except it had rice, cheese and greens, and black beans. We were so surprised at how huge the burrito was, my boyfriend was only able to eat half. They marinate and cook the meat really well here, everytime I bit the taco it was so juicy like birria sauce. The mexican cream was sooo delicious with the tacos, it balanced out the flavours really well. I definitely will return to try more items on the menu as it is extremely affordable.

Yelp
Really dirty . Want you to order on a screen that looks like it has not been wiped ever. What happened to using English and asking for what you want? GROSSE
google avatar

Yelp
Great little self service Mexican food. They only have a few choices, but they have mastered what they have. It was very flavorful, walk in or order online and pick up. If you order in person there a self service iPad that you place your order. Then they will call your number when its ready. We only waited about 10 min, if your in the mood for quick Mexican taste or flavor I highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Kate T.

Yelp
Great tacos and burrito in the neighbourhood. No indoor dining but there is a standup patio table. Self served tablet inside to make your order.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
I posted a previous review giving them trouble for a giant glob of white rice in my burrito that kinda ruined the whole thing: Ordered again and they've improved with seasoned rice that mixes well with the rest of the burrito, which was the biggest problem, so I'm updating my review to 4 stars. Flavorful ingredients (could be spicier), and the sear they put on the burritos gives it a fantastic texture. Not the best burrito I've ever had, but probably the best burrito I can order on ubereats.

Yelp
Brand new Mexican place. No seated dining, only take-out. Just 3 items on the menu, and ordering is done and paid online. Had the Burrito, which was great. Filling and well seasoned. Very tasty! Will be interesting to see if they expand menus options in the future.

Wayne G.

Yelp
Best kept secret in Vancouver tasty food at a reasonable price .this is what Taco's are about inexpensive tasty and.filling. 3 queso Taco's for how much 14 best deal in town not 14buck a piece.if you get a chance to find this hidden gem of a place.do so it will be worth looking into

Yelp
We order Border Burrito via Uber Eats and pretty much can't get enough. The beef biria queso tacos and quesadillas are freaking delicious and addictive. The portions are totally good for the prices, well worthwhile. YUM, Border Burrito, YUM!!
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
Holy guacamole! This place is newly opened and perfectly named as it sits on Boundary Rd Vancouver side. Ordered the beef burrito and my goodness I was blown away! The burrito was densely packed full of juicy beef, rice, cabbage etc. I think the burrito tortilla is homemade as it was soft and had bits of crispiness to it. Would return and recommend!
google avatar

Richard R.

Yelp
Excellent and Authentic Mexican Taje away. Tuesday is Taco Tuesday. Four flavourful Corn tacos for $10. They also have Burritos and Quesiidas in Flour Tortillas. They make awesome Red and Green Salsas. The Green salsa is spicy and goes well with the Mexican cream, included.

R R.

Yelp
Not great. Definitely not authentic. I think the salsa tasted like marinara. Got the beef tacos and rice and beans. It's edible. It's just not authentic Mexican. I don't think I would go back. Didn't finish what we ordered.
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
Place is decent for a quick meal. We ordered Uber and it came on time. The quesadillas were big portions but the texture wasn't crispy but felt more like pulled pork the stringy mushy kind. The tacos, well tacos are almost all the same around here so standard. The burritos are filling and tasty I just wish there was a little more crunch to the food. I'd go back.
google avatar

E C.

Yelp
I went to Chipotle the other day because it was near my doctor's office. Then I visited border burrito today because it's near my home. Unless I move far away, let's just say that I'm never going to visit Chipotle ever again.
google avatar

Alexander D.

Yelp
Wish I could give this place 5 stars however I can't! I ordered a beef burrito and also tried the chicken tacos, the beef was very salty and the chicken in the tacos was lacking a bit of taste. If you are very hungry and wan't a big burrito I guess give it a try but if you are looking for something unique or special this is not the place

Luz T.

Yelp
Order a burritos & tacos last night, the burritos is so dried looks like they just put teaspoon of sour cream and salsa. Its really dried and I order for the whole family. Chipotle and Saly limon is way better. I wasn't satisfied as I just wasted my money and we just threw it in the garbage.

Ryan M.

Yelp
All the food is made quickly, the burrito with the fried tortilla is delicious and the tacos are also high quality. The optional hot sauce is insanely hot if you want to try (it is a free option).

Alex M.

Yelp
Great ingredients, great prices, great taste, great portion sizes. Kind of a hidden gem but loved it. Hours are kind of annoying, only open starting at 5pm. Sometimes im cravin lunchtime tacos
