Borgo Antichi Orti Assisi (Assisi, Umbria) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Benedictine monks once worked the delightful gardens that form the centerpiece of this peaceful historic retreat, which boasts impressive sustainability credentials. It also sits close to the historic sights of Assisi, such as the Basilica di San Francesco. There are just 12 comfortable and spacious bedrooms, with beams and parquet flooring adding to their character. The classic flavors of Umbria are showcased on the dining room’s appealing menu." - Tablet Hotels

Drive through an olive orchard up to the property that sits below Assisi. The view of Assisi up the hill is amazing. The room's walls are stone, so quaint, so beautiful. Room is large, with short stairs leading out to the backyard. In front of room is a beautiful grassy garden common area that lights up at night with lounge chairs and coffee tables looking up at the church. Really, really well done. Beautiful property. Restaurant and bar on site. Purchased room with garden view and up the hill looking at Assisi and church, BUT ... the bushes were overgrown in back and blocked the view! So no view. However, step out of my room in the front and walk out to the grassy garden and you would have the view from there, so there is a saving grace. Nice breakfast in the glass bar area. Strong Wi-Fi, good shower, big room, parking. Excellent stay, amazing view of Assisi.

We could not have been happier with Borgo Antichi Orti Assisi. We were there 2 nights (we drove from Rome with our pugs, so we also wanted to mention the pet friendly aspect). It's quiet and beautiful at the hotel, and the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi looms hugely and gorgeously above the hotel (just like the pictures). It's a short walk up the hill through olive trees to the basilica and town, as well. I asked some of the people working at the hotel about the owner (an ex-footballer in Italy, if I understood correctly) and recent changes, and it sounds like they're continuously making improvements. For instance, the restaurant there is now Re Tartu, and it seriously rocked (great food, gorgeous location, huge wine list, extremely nice people working there). Now by humorous coincidence, we were in Montefalco the previous day, and ate at the Re Tartu there, too, for lunch (this was run by the son of the man who runs the restaurant at Assisi). But the restaurant in Montefalco was also excellent. The cocktail bar at the hotel has now a separate menu and drink list from the restaurant (I was told that they didn't want to compete with the main restaurant), but they were also excellent (snacks fresh from their on-site garden, smaller dishes to share, and easily enough to make a real dinner). The cocktail menu was from my perspective brilliant (or, it just happened to have most of the things I like, from more common things, Old Fashioned, Martini, and so on, but also including Pisco Sour, Aviator, Boulevardier, Vieux Carre, and others), and the cocktails were excellent in taste. And, again, the people working at the cocktail bar were also very nice and professional. And so on, I could say more, but we really loved our short stay there. Nice rooms (cool and quaint), a big lawn where we you can sit and have beverages, a limited number of room so the place never feels overly busy, and a nice breakfast (menu, not buffet). We didn't try the spa, but there is one, and it looks nice. I wish we had had more time there. Next time we'll stay longer. Thanks a lot to Borgo Antichi Orti Assisi and Re Tartu.

Happy with our choice to stay here, mostly because of the friendly service from the cocktail bar and breakfast staff. Unbeatable view looking up. A moderate 20 minute walk uphill into town. I found the bed comfortable and loved the pillows. Unfortunately the little pool was closed first week of June even though it was 85 degrees (I was told they were getting it ready to open it). We booked especially for a pool so it was a bit disappointing, but we should have asked about it, so that was on us. Also the restaurant on site was delicious, polite service but definitely on the leisurely side. I would recommend a stay here!

This location is wonderful, but a word of caution: avoid using the name in Google Maps for navigation. Instead, rely on the address or call ahead. Apparently we were supposed to get an email warning about this, but we never did. This oversight led us down a short, steep gravel driveway blocked by a gate. Unable to proceed, we had to carefully reverse up the loose gravel slope with a manual transmission rental, eventually maneuvering back onto the main road with me as lookout. Such inconvenience could have been prevented with a simple email.||Setting aside the navigation hiccup, the place itself was lovely, boasting an excellent restaurant onsite. We also had aperitivo at the bar the next night, though the focaccia was oddly spongy. However, the chickpea balls and tempura veggies were very good.||Breakfast on the first day left something to be desired with old cheese and leftover cut up fruit. Fortunately, the following day brought freshly sliced cheese and fresh fruit, improving the experience. Staff were all very nice and helpful except the person who forgot to send us the email about Google Maps!

It's definitely a five-star hotel! Perfect room, good for family, kids had fun in swimming pool, their dinner actually really popular, we see people just come for dinner, and it is so delicious! Good wine, too! Bavoel to the window shades 😎, fully covered the light, i had the best night ever, you could sleep really tight, the room is well designed! Staff are helping and warm welcomed ☺️. We will come back again! There is a nice walk to up to hill too!

Pretty place. Nice people. But in our opinion poor value for the price charged. Rooms a little more basic than appear in the pictures. A major feature is the pool, but this was “out of action” when we stayed - with no prior warning or offer to reduce our bill. On the plus side, the restaurant attached (but under separate management) provided us the best meal we have had in years!

We booked a night here so I could visit the Basilica. Beautiful property, terrible service. Beware - they decide what room you are in - even if it isn't what you think you are booking. There was a wedding, which shut down the bar, isolated access (which was frustrating since our outdoor space wasn't clean) and the dinner options are not clearly communicated. Second worst stay in our three weeks in Italy.|Thankfully, the chef at Re Tartu (NOT the hotel's restaurant regardless of what check-in staff tell you) took pity on us and allowed us to have dinner in the first seating. AMAZING!!!!!!. Make a reservation for dinner, skip the Borgo Antichi Orti Assisi.

Amazing hotel! Very quiet, comfortable, cozy, immersed in its own fields. The gardener gave us a wonderful tour of their crops! Wonderful breakfast and they adapted to our vegan life-style. We tried both restaurants, the Lab and the Locanda: they were both excellent! We loved staying here and we strongly recommend it!
