Borgo Canonica (Cisternino, Puglia) 8 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s a bit late in the game to call Puglia, in southern Italy, an undiscovered destination. But there’s still a case to be made for the underratedness of its particular charms. The rough stone architecture, the sparse shrubs of the macchia marshland, and the abundance of ancient olive trees combine to form a picture that’s quite unlike the more familiar landscapes farther north. It’s here, too, that you’ll find the trulli, the distinctive conical hut-like buildings which give a unique silhouette to the lovingly restored boutique hotel that is Borgo Canonica." - Tablet Hotels

This resort is an absolute gem! Created from a former trulli village, it feels like a fairytale. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the food is Michelin star-worthy, and the pool area is fabulous. There are gorgeous views everywhere you look, and numerous darling villages to visit just minutes away. The staff couldn’t have been kinder or more accommodating. Though we realized there were many guests there, including young families, it felt quiet and like we had the place to ourselves much of the time. We can’t wait to go back!

The property is in a quiet area surrounded by farms and not much else, great for relaxation, but what comes with this sense of remoteness also comes with a lot of maintenance issues that should not be tolerated at a supposed five star hotel. ||We stayed in a one bedroom Trulli suite number 4, and while exceedingly charming from the outside, several problems made our stay unenjoyable. ||First, the air conditioning did not cool the room adequately, despite having it on the lowest setting and highest speed, on a hot summer day the rooms stayed hot, and there is no AC in the bathroom.||Speaking of the bathroom, the toilet leaked, so every time you flush it, there’s a large puddle of (fresh) water underneath it that floods the whole floor by the door. Gross and dangerous. The shower door also did not close as the plastic seal is rotted away and it also floods the floor, very very slippery! And lastly there is a constant sewage odor coming from the shower drain that only can be remedied by opening the window… and letting more heat in. ||Last and most egregious are the bugs. The room is literally crawling with black ants, they are impossible to avoid. Multiple times during the night I woke up with little ants and bugs crawling up my nose, crawling on my eyes, and I am now covered in bites on my arms, legs, by backside, even on my scalp!!! Unacceptable. ||I could look past some of the deferred maintenance issues in the interest of having a countryside experience, but unless your fetish is being covered in bugs and bites, avoid this property!

Borgo Canonica is superb. The Trulli are so pretty, the pool is spotless, the service is exemplary and the food absolutely delicious. He had planned to eat out, but couldn’t find anywhere better. Why go out, if the best food is where you are staying!||Thanks to everyone at Borgo Canonica for making our stay so special. It’s a real gem and we will be back!

Very calm and relaxing. Nice pool. Food and service excellent.|Drawbacks - no free water. Air conditioning far too cold had to use blanket in mid summer! Clever design if a renovated trulli so long as you watch your head!||Aside from these small issues really enjoyed our stay||Very easy to access other nearby towns

I had a great experience with Borgo Canonica, even though I accidentally booked the wrong date and my reservation was technically non-refundable. Despite that, the team was incredibly understanding and kind, they promptly arranged a full reimbursement without any issues or requiring me to rebook. It’s rare to find that level of flexibility and customer care these days. I truly appreciate their generosity and professionalism, and I’ll definitely be staying with them in the future. Highly recommend!

I wanted to stay in a Trulli and our travel agent selected this hotel. We weren’t disappointed. It’s a very pretty little hotel with a lovely pool and great food. It is VERY quiet here though, which is great if you want to totally chill and relax but you might get a bit bored after a couple of days if you don’t have any trips planned. Agree with the comment that tea/coffee making facilities in the room would be a nice touch as if you are an early riser there is no way to get a drink until the restaurant opens for breakfast at 8am.

The Borgo and space is well presented and considered. Fab pool and was nice quiet, with plenty of space, which we like. We stayed for five nights and ate at the restaurant for four nights with lovely food. The accommodation was expensive but we are travelling in August so happy to pay that bit extra for a quiet, cool hotel. A couple of things that could have been improved is some (not every one) of the staff could have been warmer and friendlier (some warmed up as we got to the know them), the restaurant menu could have a daily change, and the cover charge was not necessary. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and very relaxed few days.
