Nestled in a stunning mountain backdrop, this beautifully preserved wooden church from 1180 dazzles with intricate craftsmanship and rich Viking history.
It's totally worth the extra drive to stop by here and take a look around! There is a little museum that has a lot of really good information at the main area as well before you go out to the church. To see the detail level and craftsmanship that they had compared to how we build nowadays is crazy! And the fact that this church is so well preserved is amazing. Very neat stop even if you aren’t interested in architecture.

We visited Borgund Stave Church in Norway, one of the oldest monuments with rich Viking history. This charming wooden church is set in a breathtaking mountain landscape, which is especially stunning in autumn. The church has a fascinating history, and the entry ticket includes a guided tour, making it well worth the visit. Highly recommend it—a real treat for the eyes and a beautiful glimpse into Norway’s past!

Incredible church and a must place for visit. Like many I’ve seen this spot many times on social media and was so happy that our travel was passing by this spot. You can check it out without ticket from outside the wooden “fence” but we wanted to see it up close. The wooden architecture is unique and fascinating to see in person. The atmosphere around the church feels very peaceful and ancient. It’s also a must-visit anyone interested in Viking-era architecture.

One of my favorite spot while doing the Scandinavian trip. This is a tourist spot though. Means you pay entrance fee, you have to respect the regulation and make sure you come at right time.

We ended up arriving in the evening after the museum was closed, but it was still worth stopping by. The photographer in me still had a blast with photos. It is an incredibly photogenic place. Very quick stop. But worth it! Wish we were there during open hours though to get a tour and learn more about it.

Beautiful unique historic location. Our guides and the guides at the site were wonderful providing very interesting stories about the construction, superstitions at the time and the wood carvings. It is very unique not only in that it's one of few wooden structures to survive from the Middle Ages but also in the amount of Mythical pagan symbolism associated with Christain elements. It's super cool. They broke out big tour group into two groups, so it wasn't too crowded inside. It is much smaller than I expected but had much more unique architectural elements than I expected. If you're coming to Norway you should try and see at least one Stave church as they are a great example of medieval craftsmanship and are very unique to northern Europe.

Beautiful, preserved stave church with lots of information on how it was built and how it was maintained. Top tourist area and wonderful surroundings.
Lots of photo opportunities and a large visitor centre onside too.

Very cool to see such a well preserved part of history up close. Rune carvings on the door were a highlight. The pamphlet with info they give you is full of interesting info about the church, and so are the on site local guides.
