We were traveling through LA Junta and asked our Hotel owner for recommendations of locally owned restaurants for supper and this was one of 2 they recommended. The atmosphere was saloon like. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was OUTSTANDING! I like my rib eye steak medium rare and it's usually served medium. This came exactly as ordered with outstanding flavor! My spouse ordered chicken fried steak and loved it!

Good meats! Good eats🥩🤤 Great Service! TY Lexi🤘🏼🎉👍🏼 Pro Tip: Just try and leave room for dessert🍰🥧 I had the combo plate and the wife had the bacon wrapped filet mignon. Both were good. Combo had big portions, and a large baked potato with all the trimmings. Want able to finish it Our waitress (Lexi) was an attentive, enthusiastic, pretty lil lady who checked on us repeatedly. Quick with refills and checking in. Would recommend Would visit again if I'm the area

Decided to drop in for dinner. Staff was great, not terribly busy on a Saturday at 4pm. Food was good! My wife had the Filet mignon and it was super tasty. My French Dip had a good portion of meet on it. Full bar if you need it.

There was only one server on Sunday afternoon, and it was a little busy, but he did a good job. I had the surf and turf. I added the shrimp but probably should have just got that as the surf part instead of the crab cake. It was okay but not phenomenal. Fillet was good. Salad bar was nice and fresh. I didn't care for the mashed potatoes. I will go back when I'm traveling through town. I want to try their chicken fried steak. The absolute worst part of this family style restaurant is that there is no lock on the men's bathroom door. I also noticed that there is not a stall door for the bathroom stall. So, no privacy whatsoever.

1. I ordered chicken butts they were pretty small and they looked like snake eggs we told them that we wanted chicken butts and they said OK and then when they came back with chicken strips2. We told them about it and she said that that’s what I gave you the first time.2 I cut them open and there was chicken, but the chicken was small and the whole entire chicken butt was the size of my charging block.4. she came back with the ticket and the amount of the bill was $78.10 we got the amount out and then she came back with another bill and she said this is the right amount sorry the, total was $83.01 she pocketed the tip, even though we wanted the change and she never even thought about coming back so we left and we are not happy at all and will not be coming back.

Very good food, I highly recommend the green chile slopper. Friendly staff too! Great place to stop for lunch 👍

Google
Everything about this experience was great, awesome and fantastic. I had the chicken fried steak sandwich and it was delicious. Their potatoe salad is so good that I wanted to eat a 5 gallon bucket of it. The Lemon Meringue pie was the bomb. And to top it all off the service was terrific because the waitress was friendly and efficient. Great place. I'll be back.

Google
Cute restaurant, good burgers, an the waitress was friendly. Food came pretty fast will definitely come back again

Yelp
Read reviews that the chicken fried steak was "jumbo" and delish. It was subpar. Gravy was a mix. The food was barely warm. The salad bar was decent. The staff was friendly but we had to ask server several times for the salad plate and spoon for the green chile.

Yelp
The food here was good. Hard to find healthy selections. There was a salad bar. I ended up with the bbq chicken, which was very tasty. Didn't care for the "biscuit" or dinner roll?? The onion rings were the best as were the fries. Service was great. Our server was very helpful.

Yelp
We are traveling on a motorcycle from Richmond Virginia to the Grand Canyon and back, learning all sorts of cool stuff about this country. Welp, I learned all about Rocky Mountain Oysters at Boss Hogs Saloon I saw fried oysters on the menu and I thought about how long it had been since I'd had any. Long time. So I ordered them. Then, i started thinking... I'm in Colorado, where do they get oysters from, so I ask. Waitress says, "Right here, in the Rockies!" I'm so confused. I know there's a lot of streams, rivers, lakes around here, but where I'm from, near the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, THAT'S where we get our oysters from. I guess she senses my thought process and whispers, "They're bull's balls!" Whoa!! Ok, hahaha never mind. Now I know. Instead of bull's balls, i decided on the BBQ Ribs which I think tasted way better than bull's balls would have Meanwhile, husband, who orders steak and shrimp, is getting a kick out of the ordeal and has texted his buddies about the oysters. It'll be a while before I live this one down. Great restaurant, and I think one of the very few in this small town, that is open past 2pm.

Yelp
I was in LaJunta for work on Friday and I have eaten here before with good service. I had a nice steak and meal. The dinner roll was hard and smelled old. My waiter did not offer dessert and I knew they had good desserts. I asked about the pie and he had to go check what they had. They were out of Lemon Meringue and he didn't offer ice cream or other desserts, their loss. I will find somewhere else next time.

Yelp
The service was good and the food is alright. I ordered a full rack of ribs and got mashed potatoes and baked beans for the sides. The mashed potatoes were real and the beans although tasting ok, we're cold (not even luke warm). The atmosphere is kind of cool and the prices are fair. Be warned, the parking lot is a little small/congested.

Yelp
We were dropping our kid off at Otero College and had a hard time finding a local place to eat. We finally chose this one at random. The place has a nice atmosphere with a cowboy theme. The food and service were amazing, and the young waitress was very nice (I regret not asking her name). Besides the great food, the prices for both food and drinks were incredibly low.

Yelp
If you can fight your way past the flies upon entering then step up to the salad bar for rusty lettuce and watered down bleu cheese dressing. Every meal looked disgusting. And there was little to no flavor. Baked potatoes are okay. Overall, zero stars were earned but one star is mandatory minimum.

Ralph Z.

Yelp
Nice western steakhouse/saloon. Reasonable steaks, good pours. Friendly service makes for an enjoyable meal.

Ralph Z.

Yelp
I ate dinner here a year ago and the restaurant is still a nice easy and reasonable place to have decent food. It wasn't very busy and Service was good with attentive waitresses. And you can enjoy the reasonable prices on beer wine and mixed drinks.

Yelp
Wanted to try this place while in town for work. I wish I would have read the reviews prior to going. When I got there I ordered the steak and lobster. The food came and the sides were absolutely horrible, the vegetable medley tasted horrible like they just threw it out of the can and onto my plate, had no seasoning whatsoever and the potatoes were lukewarm the steak was rubbery and the lobster was not cleaned properly before it was cooked. The best part of the meal was the bread and butter. Salad bar was okay.

Yelp
This is an unexpected pleasure for dinner. Stopped in on a Saturday night before heading to our destination and were served a great big meal that hit the spot. The surf and turf special was a big New York strip and shrimp. Came with choice of sides which I went with mashed potatoes and gravy. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great! My wife had the chicken breast, again big and tasted great. Waiters wore masks and the tables spaced. Will look forward to coming back again. P

Yelp
Service and western ambiance is the best thing about this restaurant (hence the three stars). If you want good food however, go somewhere else (one star). My buffalo burger was very well done and cold when I asked for it medium. My friend ordered the bbq ribs and he said it was cold also. I could understand if the restaurant was busy, but it was NOT busy on a Thursday night at 7:00 PM.
google avatar

Yelp
There are two Steak houses in La Junta. We'll two supposed steak houses. I do love a good steak, medium rare is when properly done pink, and tender. Cuts with a fork and the juices are filled with flavor. A good cold beer and baked potato make for a great night. I eat here often, as the other so-called steak house is not my idea if a steak house. Boss Hogs has it all, a good bar, great salad bar. The Snake Eggs, and Chicken Butts are fantastic. Service is very good and friendly. Boss Hogs has been around and will continue to. The angry reviews of a disgruntled ex-empoyee are just that, anger trying to get even for loosing his job. The ribs are tender meaty and plain great.
google avatar

Sam A.

Yelp
Locals eat here, because lack of choice in town. Ribs were meaty with good taste. Shrimp were just soso. Hand cut fries were good. Service was freindly. Location looking a bit dated. Full bar, Pepsi products.

Clayton S.

Yelp
This place when they are on is great however, there have been a few times that the service was terrible and the food was lacking. If you catch them on a good day you will be very satisfied.

Yelp
Great food, excellent service and a nice atmosphere. The staff are always smiling and on top of things.

Yelp
Wanted to treat my Mom to a nice steak for Mother's Day and this was not the place to go. Honestly, the food was mediocre... not fantastic, not terrible. My bacon wrapped prime rib was tough and I almost asked for some steak sauce. If I could've gotten our waitress's attention, I would've. I probably would go to 2 stars if our waitress had been even semi attentive. Never checked on us, didn't refill my water, didn't even come back and ask if we'd like dessert. I truly felt unwelcomed in this restaurant. After a so-so meal and the bum's rush by our waitress... the best thing about Boss Hogg's was leaving.

Yelp
Wasn't impressed with the prices -- store front advertised $1.99 house margaritas and when asked to blend them was not told the blend would be an additional $4 each!! We were just told it would be extra? Who would've guessed! The 6oz bacon wrapped filet looked land tasted like it had sat in Kroger's meat cases few days too long. The baked potato with "everything on it" was $1.50 extra!! No where near the $ for the quality. The daily vegetable was canned green beans with a little frill.

Jake B.

Yelp
Prompt service and food like my grandma used to make. Homey atmosphere that made me super comfortable to enjoy my meal. Thanks Boss Hogg's.

Yelp
Sub par food and sub par service. There's have one old lady covering half the restaurant. It took way to long to be greeted and place an order. The food took forever. If you don't have all night to wait... Go somewhere else. I ordered the BBQ combo plate. The two sides I ordered was the salad bar and green beans. The salad bar is all sorts of outta order. You have the lettuce in the middle, so people move one way, then have to go back over each other to get the dressing. The topping like bacon, croutons, and sunflower seeds are back on the opposite end of the dressings. The lettuce had a lot of brown spots. Tomatoes were squishy and tasted weird. The ranch seemed very watered down. My dad got a half rack of ribs .. he said his potato seems to have been the I've for 8 hours. He said the ribs were good though. My sausage was cold and rubbery. Skip it if possible. The ribbs we're really good. Not sure what the rubbery meat is.. they called it Beef... It probably is, but should add a note that it tough like jerky... Covering it in BBQ sauce doesn't soften it The people who say before us bairly got their food when we were ready to go. They were pissed. I didn't even finish my food before I had to run to the bathroom. I had given them 2 starts... But as I sat there... Pondering without a door on the stall.... It is going back down to one. Didn't really enjoy being walked in on... In all my glory. Finally got the check and tried to pay.. of course they don't accept American Express. What year is this? 1998?

Yelp
Pleasant surroundings but several flies present buzzing around. I had the chicken fried steak special not very appetizing. Frozen steak more breading than meat. Tasted bland. Rocky Mountain oysters were somewhat over fried some were very chewy and very crisp. Waitress was nice I left most of my food on my plate and she asked if it was ok. Don't rush here. Not very tasty.
google avatar

Zachary S.

Yelp
The servers did a good job on drinks but the food was so bad that I will never return again. Most of the food came out cold. We ordered three combination platters and half the food in the platter was missing for all three meals. The only good thing was the burger. Everything else was horrific. The guacamole was avocados and nothing else...
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
My collègue and I are here the food was tasty and the salad bar was nice but we both had GI issues after. Not sure from what since we both had chicken. The food is tasty though and you get a lot of it so great gif left overs

Yelp
Horrible experience. Absolutely horrible. Let me start by saying this was my 2nd time here. The first time was for lunch. I had the rib plate, and I was disappointed. It was like they just threw ribs in a crockpot, and smothered it in bbq. Gross. And super lazy of the cooks to serve this up. But hell, I figured I'd give them another try some other time. I mean, there's not a lot of eateries around when one is passing through La Junta. Well, had dinner with 3 coworkers here last night. Every one of us agreed this place will never get our business again. We would have had better luck at McD's or Taco Bell--at least we would have gotten hot food and fast service. Our waitress was SO SLOW. Took forever to do anything from bringing our drinks, clearing salad plates, and bringing our food. And our damn food came out COLD! The best part of my entree was the dinner roll, which we all know is store bought and isn't good to begin with. It's a sad day when a store bought dinner roll outshines your own food. I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN.

Cassandra S.

Yelp
Service was great, but the food was not so good. The salad bar was okay, but limited.
google avatar

Dave W.

Yelp
Quick stop in for lunch, while passing through town. A local police officer recommended this establishment. Everyone (8 of us) enjoyed their meal. I thought mine was good, but really just typical bar food. I will say the server was good, and she kept up on all requests.
google avatar

Yelp
Boss Hogg's was a great choice. The food was delicious and the staff was very nice and attentive. Our server was awesome. We would recommend this place and would come back.

Corey L.

Yelp
I worked there for a few Months and I got fired for certain reasons so I'm gonna expose this place they have roaches everywhere in the kitchen where the food is all over the dishwasher at the bar and the boss comes in sometimes and if he drops food on the floor he just picks it up and puts it on the plate to serve he doesn't care it's gross food is still good though but would not recommend
google avatar

Yelp
The service was amazing considering there were three large groups. I had full rack of ribs not to good tuff.
google avatar

Gina J.

Yelp
I've been here a few times. Had an excellent cheeseburger the first time but was in the mood for shrimp the 2nd. The shrimp was ok, but I was hoping for something a bit more fresh so will opt for the burger next time. The wait staff was relatively prompt and friendly enough. Though it has a hometown feel, the facility seems a little on the dingy side (maybe they need a better vent for when they fry stuff?). That burger was good enough to bring me back though!

Jolene G.

Yelp
Ok, crazy but I don't eat meat, this was still a great place to stop for great eats. Staff was awesome, she was the only waitress on, she was quick fast and efficient which is rare now a days. We enjoyed everything and had more to take home for later. Awesome stop!

Nancy B.

Yelp
Good hamburger and excellent french fries. Chicken fried steaks are very popular locally.
google avatar

Chad S.

Yelp
We love this place, every time we come to La Junta this is our must stop place. The best cheeseburgers, chicken fried steak sandwiches, and fries I've ever had.

David P.

Yelp
I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs. The meat had an unpleasant aftertaste. My guess is that it was due to freezer burn. The wait staff was quick and friendly. The coleslaw was okay but the salad just so-so. I would neither go back nor recommend to a friend.

Robert H.

Yelp
I have come here for years, and I enjoy the food and atmosphere. I have always been treated with respect & Love from the staff, over the years. I always order the Specialty Burger or Steak. Recently, I treated a large local group & was happy and proud to do so. However, the waitress that hosted us was extremely rude & unapologetic about anything that went wrong with our order. I was told by another Guest, that it was pointless to turn her in to the Management team, as they were all good friends. I have interacted with the owners in the past & know how to get a hold of them. I am happy to reach out to them, as I regularly visit their other location. The waitress Melissa is "Extremely Rude" & unprofessional. I am pleading with Tim, to get a grip, and protect our reputation in the La Junta area, as we enjoy this establishment! Talk to you soon!

Brittany N.

Yelp
Came as a group. Some of our food was cold. Some of it undercooked (frozen fish) was still raw. Their side of mixed vegetables were veggies from a can. Staff was friendly. But food wasn't good.

Alan M.

Yelp
I loved this place sooooooo much. food = A+++ service = A+++ enjoyment = A+++ WILL DEFF COME AGAIN!!!
google avatar

Teresa L.

Yelp
Nice service, suuuuper cheap drinks, okay food. I ordered the fish and chips on a Friday and asked for tartar sauce- but she said they didn't have it since they only serve fish one day a week. Fish and chips need tartar sauce, in my opinion, so would it be so hard or cost prohibitive to keep it on hand? Definitely worth a return visit!
google avatar

Gage G.

Yelp
We have enjoyed Boss Hog in the past but had a very disappointing Sunday dinner. We got the steak special and our steaks were ordered medium but came out dry and we could barely cut them or chew them. Baked potato was brown in the center because it had been over cooked or maybe cooked the day before. Also, steak sauce containers and salt and pepper shakers could use some extra cleaning.

Jim B.

Yelp
This is a classic local business, with a tremendous varied menu. We've been here several times and always leave full and happy. We try to hit Boss Hogg any time we're in town.

Mary Beth L.

Yelp
Was very disappointed. I brought my Dad back home from Firestone to Las Animas today. We made a couple of stops at the cemetery and decided to buy Dad some lunch before we took him home. My husband and Dad both ordered hamburgers, I ordered fish. My fish was ok but their burgers were over cooked. The french fries we all ordered were cold and limp and looked like they had been sitting in the kitchen for a while. The house margaritas tasted like they were made from a powdered mix. My salad was not good either. Our waitress was the only nice thing about the visit. This use to be a great place to eat but I probably won't visit anymore.

Yelp
This review is just from hanging at the bar for an hour one afternoon, so take it or leave it. I'd been coming to this structure since it was the Hog's Breath Saloon; used to get beers here and shoot pool with fam when I was in town. They've since changed the name, expanded the restaurant dining area, and squeezed the bar down. It's still homey, and I want to check out the food some day. The patrons at the bar are fun as well; we got in a pig-counting contest among all the decor and lost count somewhere in the twenties I think. It seems alright as far as a potential restaurant destination goes, I miss the rough-and-tumble old days though.

Hailey R.

Yelp
THIS IS A ZERO STAR REVIEW I remember eating at this restaurant when I use to play softball. I remember great service and spectacular food.... This time, it wasn't the case. I came with some friends to the restaurant. From the get go, I had high expectations for this restaurant. When we sat down at our table, my friends and I were socializing and laughing. Our hostess, of all people, had the audacity to comment on our conversation. For one, she had no place to listen to our conversation in the first place, secondly she believed we were talking about her. Rude, inconsiderate, and plain disrespectful in my opinion. I hope this hostess or bus girl from what I saw, gets a lesson on how to treat paying customers. This use to be a great restaurant when I was growing up but this place has obviously not hired the right staff to make it feel like home. Server description: young, probably college, more than likely from the area. No way an out of state employee would treat us like that since we are from neighboring towns. Long hair, probably should get some jeans that actually fit and fix her attitude.
google avatar

Randy A.

Yelp
What a great staff! Food is good if you pick the right things; steaks, burgers, etc. the filet is wicked awesome. Always busy and worth the wait, this is one of the best joints in the Arkansas river valley. Consistent - Kathy and Kaitlin at the bar, Queen Melissa and Tim along with the other servers are always making the experience fantastic!
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
This place is fantastic the food is out of sight. The service is fast and friendly you will not find a better cook steak or burger cooked to perfection actually anywhere.
google avatar

Wright H.

Yelp
Excellent and prompt service, decent prices and good food.....my Daughter and I both had the Slopper; could have used a little more green chili but otherwise everything was great!
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
I start with the fact that you are in la junta, so options without a drive thru are pretty slim. This is a mediocre restaurant and "saloon", and by the looks of the robust crowd, most must agree that this is one of the better options in town. I have passed it up in the past just because of the name but this time I decided to try. Service was swift, attentive and friendly. The steak wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. The salad bar is a throwback to 30 years ago. Not bad, not great. The vegetable of the day was canned green beans. Adding bacon doesn't make them not canned. Wine did not list a brand - just a house choice. Almost every app is something breaded or fried. If I'm back in town I would still probably go just to get a served meal, but would not recommend you go out of your way.

Timothy D.

Yelp
Food was low quality and poorly cooked. The salad lites on the menu as a house salad did show bacon as a topping but can with bacon bits and the lettuce was wilted. The baked beens were listed as "baked beens" but were in fact "pork and beans". And the ribeyes was a thinly sliced breakfast style cut that tasted like they steamed it and had not flavor. Plates are old and looked dirty and will as the silverware. Its over priced also even if they got it right...The staff was nice

Yelp
Amazing food, great service and always a good time! Would highly recommend when visiting especially the philly cheese steak!
