25 Places to Catch a Bit of Baseball History

"First opened in 1915, this field is beaten in age only by Boston’s Fenway Park (1912) and Chicago’s Wrigley Field (1914). It began as a passion project for Evansville’s mayor Benjamin Bosse, who ran into a bump in the road during the park’s development process. Bosse needed additional funding to complete the project and hatched a plan to have the Evansville school board provide the rest of the funds in return for use of the field. When he pitched it to the school board, the president struck it down. Bosse’s reaction was simple; he fired the president and replaced them with a good friend of his who gave the plan an automatic thumbs-up. This brings us to Bosse Field’s modern-day claim to fame. Audiences around the world likely recognize it as the site of the legendary showdown between the Rockford Peaches and the Racine Belles in the classic film A League of Their Own (1992). When Columbia shot the film in 1991, they decorated the stadium with vintage product advertisements for coffee and stamps, as well as murals for the Racine Belles team." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Travelling through Evansville on a weekend when my wife and I get into the car and drive with no real idea where we are going, we stopped for lunch at McAllister's. The walls had multiple pictures of A League of Their Own. We didn't understand why. Upon closer inspection the small print in these pictures told the story of the filming here. We immediately went and found the stadium. Walking up on it, we found the gate open. Walking in, the ball club's offices were right there and someone was in the office. We asked if it was ok to walk the stadium. Permission was granted if we agreed to stay off the field. Done!!! As a huge baseball fan, walking this stadium was so cool on so many levels. We completely enjoyed the hour or so we spent walking thru this grand old girl. Now to make it back in season to see a game here.

The league of their own filmed there. Former Detroit Tigers AAA stadium, a lot of history. just a cool place.

Nice old field with a great history. The games are fun, but they also open it up for other events. It is clean and easy to get around the stadium. Tickets to ball games are cheap, and the way the stadium is set up, most seats have a great view. We were entertained and will be back. Concession prices were reasonable with good selections.

Bosse Field was an experience all should have if you love baseball. This iconic historic field was used in the filming of a League of Their Own. It has roomy seats, the most delicious pretzel I have ever eaten and yummy cheese burgers!

Went for the Evansville Food Truck Festival. It was a great time. Could have had a separate line for those who already had their tickets so that we wouldn't have to wait in a line half way around the building behind people who still had to buy tickets. They did at least keep the line moving fairly well. I'm still fairly new to Evansville, and this was my first time here. While I'm not into sports, I do enjoy historic places. It was a nice visit and the festival was great. I'll definitely be back next year and possibly for other events there. I may even come back to watch a game.

This field is legendary! When we got to stadium, we thought we'd just be able to see it, from the outside...but the gates were open to see this historical field! We were able to take pics of everything, & had fun re-creating lines from a certain famous movie! It was an awesome site to see, & glad we were able to visit! I live in Missouri, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to return! Hopefully next time, I can catch a game here!

Fun ball park for the Evansville otters. I went for a non baseball event but they were a great host. The field and grounds are well kept and fairly modern. There was a decent selection of concessions and the chili cheese fries were kind of awesome.

We have been here a few times for the food truck festival. We always get the VIP tickets so we can eat and enjoy before the general admission and all the long lines. Nice clean park!
