"The Common becomes extraordinary on winter evenings when the Christmas tree is up and soft lights seem to hold back the twilight chill, but the truth is there’s no bad time to visit the nation’s oldest public park. The former cow pasture has been a focal point for Boston ’s history and culture since its inception in 1636—a site for riots and rallies from the Revolutionary War to the Vietnam War era as well as weddings, hangings, and burials. Summer splashing and winter skating at the Frog Pond are local traditions, and you can spend hours wandering from landmark to landmark (like Augustus Saint-Gaudens’s famous bas-relief Memorial to Robert Gould Shaw and the Massachusetts Fifty-Fourth Regiment, or the Soldiers and Sailors monument atop Flag Staff Hill). Or you can just laze in the sun on the park’s west-side lawn."

The Freedom Trail is a great way to see Boston and learn about the history of this beautiful place. Staff here guided me to the lowest-cost coupon code for use in the WalknTour app ($5).

A must have to start your tour even if you’re going to do it self guided. The store is neat and be sure to use the restroom before you start as a long if the local stores do NOT public restrooms. Once you find the brick line to guide you it’s a very easy way to see all the sights.

Wonderful. They answered every question with a smile and gave great directions.

We traveled from mid US across North.. came across several major cities and monuments.. We got struck with sheer enthusiasm when start exploring Boston freedom trail.. We end up closing remarks "Boston is the city of class" .. it's just a class ..

Everywhere in Boston, especially the parks where families and visitors are supposed to enjoy clean air and nature, are all inundated with the potent p, inescapable, uninviting smell of marijuana. Legalizing weed did horrors for the tourism of this place. I never want to bring my family here again. Visitor centers, parks, etc should be welcoming….not smelling like weed…

Friendly staff that will help you find ways to explore Boston and to know the things to do .

WE were exploring Boston for the first time independently so we went to Boston Common to start the Freedom Trail. Paul in the Visitor Centre was so helpful, his advice definitely improved our experience of Boston, particularly his recommendation to get the ferry to the Charlestown Navy Yard before following the second half of the Freedom Trail.

Popped in here before starting the Freedom Trail independently (not part of a tour), and the staff were so friendly and helpful. They offered lots of recommendations and we purchased a useful map that explained all the history behind each stop on the trail. There are toilets available here and souvenirs too.

Yelp
The staff is super friendly and informative. It's a great resource for tourists and locals who want to explore. It's a store so you can also buy souvenirs. It's in front of the green line station called park street . It's also adjacent to a parking lot called the Boston common parking lot .

Yelp
It's a pretty small visitors center, but they are Heaven sent. The employees are friendly, the bathrooms are functional, they have places to sit outside for people waiting for you, they will provide information about the city and things to do, and they sell postcards! It's a good place to stock up on beautiful images to send to those at home. I'm not sure where parking may be convenient, but walking from any point in the Common will get you there easily enough.

Yelp
This visitor's center is a good place to come for brochures on good destinations and attractions to go to in Boston. They also sell maps here. It's a very small visitor's center but there are always a couple of people working at the front desk and who will help you with any questions you have. I've seen them helping tourists who are in the area and they seem very nice. There are souvenirs for sale here if you want to grab something to take home. They also sell the tickets here for the Freedom Trail tour that leaves from here. The tour is led by costumed guides, dressed in the fashions of the colonial times and the tour leaves from here. There are public restrooms here and they do a pretty good job in keeping them fairly clean.

Yelp
We did the Freedom Trail walking tour with Emily Dawes, fantastic tour! Emily is an awesome guide. Her historical knowledge and animated personality are a winning combination! I highly recommend that you take this tour with Emily :-)

Yelp
This is one of the better Visitor's Information Center in Boston I visited! Not only it is the starting point of Freedom Trail Tour, it also has knowledgeable staffs and packed with Information! Mostly important is it has such clean restrooms facilities! And water fountains to fill up your water bottles too!! Right across from the Park T Station...at least now I know where to find clean washrooms when I am in the area!

Yelp
We wondered into the visitor's center in search of maps of the Freedom Tour. However, the maps are not FREE! Luckily we found a sales associate that saw we weren't budging and found us a visual aid free of cost that would help us see the area and provide information about the Freedom Trail. The visitors center in essence is a small gift shop with a bathroom. The bathroom was every nightmare public bathrooms are made of. The staff kept to themselves unless you made contact first and they provide guided tours of The Freedom Trail about every hour I believe.

Yelp
Yay for a pit stop and informational flyers. Boo for the prevailing Boston attitude of disdain- I wish I'd talked to the smiling lady, but I got the teenager who not only didn't crack a single pleasant expression, but basically just said, "yeah, we have brochures over there." Dead pan.

Yelp
Our tour was led by Prudence Cummings Wright (character name) on 9/27. I forgot the tickets as we were rushing to leave and Prudence was very nice about it, allowing me to email her the confirmation that I purchased and still go on the tour. She was funny and very informative on the sites we visited. I dragged my boyfriend along and he enjoyed it as much as I did which was a bit of a shock. I would recommend this tour to anyone who's never been to Boston and is interested in history. I only gave 4 stars because the tour was 11 of the 16 sites and we would have had to pay for a separate tour to see the others. However, the tour ended at Faneuil Hall which was right next to an awesome market where we visited.

Yelp
What everyone else has been saying: friendly staff, clean washrooms, water fountains to stay hydrated. It's also the start of the Freedom Trail, where most tours depart from! WOOT WOOT! Super close to the Park T station, its a must-visit place to tourists and locals to find out what's going on in Boston.

Yelp
Enjoyed seeing the historic sites and hearing the stories behind them, but didn't leave with a renewed feeling of patriotism. Tour guide continually pointed out mistakes or shortcomings of founding fathers or American society as a whole. Went on the tour for history lesson not sociology lesson.

Yelp
Lovely people working there. I even got a free map (; . Some of the prices for basic maps/information are too high. What do you expect, a tourist is a money bag. Although, if you're a visitor, this should be your first destination. You will recieve all the free information on things to do in Boston and you will have all of your questions answered by the friendly staff.

Yelp
We parked in the Boston Commons below ground parking garage. Good spot if you do not know the town. Easy to get to and get back on Interstates. Take your parking stub with you as you need it to pay in kiosk before you come back down. BE SURE you know which tiny elevator building you come out of. At the end of the day they all look alike. Head to 139 Tremont Street. It's like the eastern end of the park in the southern corner. We wandered awhile looking for it. It is tiny and has ONE female and one male bathroom and you get all your maps, tickets and helpful instructions here. It gets crowded and you have to maintain your spot in line from all the pushy tourists (LOL). Counter staff was friendly and took their time with each person even with the crush. Now go see Boston.

Yelp
The tour we were on was pretty good. The guide was informative and funny. The other guides were rude and down right nasty. In full custome, we tried to get a photo. The guide have us the finger. Welcome to Boston.
