Guide to Ischia, Italy

"An intimate, family-run oasis enveloped by nature with white-washed architecture and lush greenery. The spa offers plant-driven therapies, thermal pools, and a grotto steam bath." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Botania Relais & Spa (Island of Ischia, Campania) 11 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"When it comes to islands in the Bay of Naples, the mind naturally leaps straight to Capri. But around the other end of the bay is the larger, if less storied, island of Ischia. It may lack some of the drama of Capri, and its hotel scene as a whole might not scale the same opulent heights, but it’s possessed of a wilder sort of beauty — and, as you may have guessed by now, some impressive hotels of its own. Among them is Botania Relais & Spa, a tranquil escape tucked away, in classic Ischian style, within a lush two-acre garden estate." - Tablet Hotels

Our stay at Botania Relais was pure magic from start to finish. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel special, and they even surprised us with an upgrade to a stunning suite with a private pool. The service is truly 5-star; every detail and every interaction felt luxurious and personal. The property itself is truly remarkable, surrounded by lush greenery, beautiful flowers, and a profound sense of peace. It feels like a hidden paradise. I only had the chance to try one of the restaurants, Il Corbezzolo, but it turned out to be the best meal of my entire vacation. The food and ambiance were phenomenal. Botania Relais exceeded all expectations. I can’t wait to come back!

Incredible! Beautiful, peaceful property with amazing staff! The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, very large by European standards and we had a beautiful terrace as well. You can reach the thermal gardens easily by walking out the back side of the property. There is a shuttle that will transport you into town during certain hours. We had an included breakfast that had a great a la carte option and lunch poolside was delicious. Would definitely stay here again!

My wife and I just got married in Tuscany and traveled through Italy after. Our final stop was at Botania and what an experience we had! This was truly a magical experience. The staff was warm and professional and the property is gorgeous. The food and accommodations were top tier and we absolutely loved the spa. Make sure you check out the breakfast! We did a couples massage - a MUST! The staff is fantastic and make it hard to want to leave and explore this gem of an island. This is a place that we have already decided we will return to!

We had the best experience at the Botania Hotel. The property is beautiful, clean & very spacious. The staff is outstanding! From the moment of our arrival they made sure that our stay was comfortable & exceptionally pleasant. Unfortunately my husband had a boating accident & when we arrived to the hotel, they went above & beyond to take care of us. The love & care that we received was like no other. Thank you for everything!

I rarely add reviews, generally reserving comment for the exceptional or the utterly awful. Botania absolutely falls into the former category. It's outstanding. From the moment the weary traveller arrives everything is handled with such care and attention that you immediately, relax.||The rooms are stunning and well appointed, clean, bright, airy and calming. The meticulously maintained grounds are a delight to walk through. The staff are more akin to an extended family, the communication of customer preferences passing seamlessly from one to another so you seldom need to repeat yourself at any point - something usually lacking from all but the most exceptional venues.||The food is authentically Italian, but they will of course accommodate for your own tastes should you fancy a little comfort food at any point. Service at every meal time is handled with care and attention and there are many delightful options, wines and desserts to tempt you, even at breakfast. If you're a fan of delicious breakfast pastries then you will be more than happy!||The hotel has a very well appointed gym (not going near that, I'm on holiday) but if you're one of those people that like to keep trim the equipment is first class. There is a wonderful Spa, with warm pool and steam room, a large open air pool. Elsewhere on the hotel grounds you can find fantastic thermal pools and a sauna. At no point do you feel crowded as there as several options for those seeking to relax in the warming waters.||Locally there are several attractions worth a visit within walking distance; wonderful gardens and a lovely, quiet beach set in an attractive bay. If you want to venture further afield there is a shuttle service to the two nearest towns - well worth a visit - and the island itself is perfect, a real gem and doesn't suffer the usual overwhelming amounts of tourists. It feels completely genuine and not contrived to cater to holiday makers.||Excursions can be organised through the hotel and honestly, I would recommend doing this. You'll get local knowledge and expertise from people that love where they live.||I should mention that there is also a Michelin starred vegetarian restaurant on site. Although we didn't eat there, the food looks as stunning as you would imagine. Maybe next time? (Yes, there will be a next time).

Botania Relais & Spa in Ischia felt like staying in a real-life garden paradise. Everywhere you look, it’s green and peaceful. The breakfast buffet and restaurants were incredible — some of the best food we had on the island. The service was flawless and genuinely warm. We fell in love with both Ischia and this hotel, and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

We arrived after a short flight from London to Naples and then journeyed across from Naples to Ischia on the hydrofoil - generally short transfers but it was lovely having such a warm greeting by the hotel with refreshments immediately offered.||The room was made up relatively quickly and we had a chance to rest by the pool before being taken to be reunited with the luggage. The room was quaint, air conditioned and all in good working order (we did have one issue with the AC during our stay but this was resolved pronto by the hotel staff who are very responsive to any requests and utilise WhatsApp to achieve this as did our travel rep). The room felt private with a good sized sun terrace and was visited by staff a few times during the day to clean, fill up the drinks and do a turn down service in the evening.||No request seemed too much for the staff and the service was certainly outstanding in arranging trips, navigating Ischia, all having great knowledge of the area and of food.||The grounds are lush, impeccably maintained and are stepped into the hillside with some lovely ocean views.||Food & drink in the hotel was excellent with an amazing selection and fine ingredients most being sourced locally or from their own gardens. Dishes were beautifully presented and different menus throughout the week. We ate primarily in Corbezzolo which was a la carte and included in our room rate and really did not need to eat anywhere else as we just worked our way through the menu. ||We did however dine in the vegan/vegetarian restaurant Il Mirto and did their 7 course tasting menu (which was more like 10 courses). This was fine dining in such a relaxing setting and it is recommended to try, if just for the experience. Much of what is eaten is grown in the grounds of the hotel.||The pool and spa are both centrally located, the spa offering a good menu of treatments. ||Finally, despite being situated on top of a hill, it is a short taxi ride to most of the island towns and villages on the north side of the island. San Montano and Lacco Ameno are 15 min walking distance if you are reasonably able to walk up some steep but safe roads and worthwhile visiting for a couple of hours. Forio is a nice nearby town with harbour and beach, a short taxi ride and lots of places to lunch, dine out or shop for souvenirs and trendier items.||We did a day trip to Procida which you could also do in a half day and not eat up to much into your stay - the hotel helped find a local, reasonably priced company which turned out to be an amazing boat trip to the sister island of Ischia.||So in summary - first class service with a smile in a corner of paradise. Will be returning home tomorrow a very happy and relaxed customer.

A lovely hotel with beautiful, peaceful gardens. The staff were all pleasant and helpful, the rooms lovely (all different) and restaurants very good. The pool was blissful - loved the double Sun loungers and plenty of space and available beds. We ate in the main restaurant (very good and personable staff make recommendations if you wish and at the amazing vegetarian/ vegan Il Mirto. The chef in the latter is very talented and came up with some surprising dishes - all fabulous. Even my carnivore husband thoroughly enjoyed it. You are made to feel special as they only take a few bookings each night and talk you through all the dishes. They grow lots of herbs and vegetables themselves which are used in the dishes. |There is a hotel shuttle that will take you into town/ the port for a boat trip/ botanical gardens and they have a customer relations to help with trips, local, restaurants etc. |I would be very happy to return to Botania Relais and Spa and Ischia as it’s a lovely island.
