Smashing Saturday lunch .. it’s like sitting in your living room… very comfortable afternoon, great for meeting friends. Great menu, lots of choice. Service great as usual.

Google
A family lunch presented a welcome opportunity to visit Bothy. It is held in high regard for its Scottish cuisine and somewhat decadent interior. A niche I very much enjoy. Firstly the venue is nicely curated with lots of wood, mood lighting, tartans and curious artefacts. It’s upmarket but not in a stifling way. With a large group we were able to take a fairly large sweep of the menu. From risotto, lamb, fish and chicken everything was beautifully cooked and presented. Sides of triple cooked chips and broccoli with sriracha were not just an afterthought and tasted fantastic. Maybe not the heartiest of portions but the quality was there with aplomb. Top marks. My only bug bear would be the service. It’s a personal dislike to have numerous different waiting staff. Understandable at times when it’s very busy but on a fairly steady afternoon service it felt less personal to have numerous unnamed staff helping throughout the meal. But I’m also sure others would be less perturbed. All in all Bothy offers top class cooking at a moderate price level in comfortable surroundings. If I was to return it would be an evening service and maybe kept to a special occasion but with happy patrons on this visit it’s doing the important things right.

We booked the Sunday roast lunch, but not sure we would return here. The food was mediocre - there was oil standing in the bottom of the Yorkshire pudding, the meat was chewy and the potatoes had a weird texture, as if they weren’t made from fresh potatoes. Lastly, they gave us a table in the back of the restaurant at not a very nice spot, despite us having booked the lunch a week in advance. If you are booking in advance and never visited before - definitely ask for a table at the front of the restaurant!

This restaurant came highly recommended by multiple friends and it did not disappoint! Cozy and comfortable atmosphere with great service. All of the dishes we ordered were well presented and had great flavor. We tried the haggis and neeps dish, venison, lamb, and salmon - all were quite tasty. We look forward to coming back here again in our next trip to Glasgow!

Google
High level and hearty cooking make this a must when looking for a modern take on Scottish cuisine. The decoration and atmosphere create a relaxed and cosy feeling and even the music was a perfect soundtrack. There is also a little garden with a few tables, but you need to be extra lucky to get the rare sunny rainless Scottish day.

Google
We ordered the steak and venison and it took about 45 minutes to come out. The steak was very tough/chewy and it wasn’t very flavorful. The service was below average. We were not told about the discretionary tip, and when we asked to take it off, there was an awkward exchange. It’s quite expensive for what you get.

Ideal stop for lunch. Lovely setting and pleasant, welcoming staff. Every part of the meal was thoughtful and complimentary. Love the pork belly with hazelnuts.

Really friendly staff, really fancy and tasty food. All arrived quickly. Really nice renovation since was last here. Definitely recommend. Is a little pricey but it’s definitely worth it as a treat as it reflects in the food and decor.

Yelp
We ate here for dinner. It was OKAY. We started with the bread with miso and sage butter, pumpkin seed oil, and white gastrique. This was DELICIOUS. We also ordered the olives to start. These were not delicious. Lol they were very briney and just had an odd flavor. For my main, I ordered the venison loin - it was pretty good! My partner ordered the ribeye steak and he didn't enjoy it. The decor is really nice and the service was great. Overall, we'll give Bothy Glasgow another shot, but we won't rush back. Note for vegans: they have a full vegan menu. Just let one of the staff know you're vegan and they'll provide the menu!

Yelp
A fabulous location to end our holiday in Scotland. Our means were fabulous! Started with the carrot salad and cheese plate. Salmon and bass were the mains of the evening. We asked the chef to prepare medium rare -- so the fish remained wonderfully moist (unlike some Scottish preparations). And we finished with a dram pairing and toffee pudding. Service was good -- but not great. Immature wait staff made the whole evening feel a little less amaxing.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant. I'm from the New York City area and this place would hold its own with high end restaurants there, for less money! The room is beautiful and the service is perfect (kilts are a nice touch). Very cozy, homey feeling space. I was traveling for business and dined alone and was treated like anyone else there. Food is beautiful and delicious. Scallops and pork belly starter is great. Some of the best scallops I've ever had, especially with the sauce on the plate. Salmon was excellent, especially with the dill compote. The accompaniments together made for an incredible bite. And the sticky pudding was great. Not the best I've every had but still excellent. A favorite that I highly recommend.

Yelp
Loved it. Great Scottish experience, had the terrine and Duck. Duck was excellent along with the beans on the side. Choices of wines by the glass a bit lacking but finished with a nice flight of local whiskeys

Yelp
The Bothy is THE place to take your overseas friends and relatives for a taste of Scottish cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. The decor is verging on the twee - although thankfully they haven't gone the whole hog and put deer heads or displays of claymores and suchlike on the walls - and having the staff all wearing kilts doesn't help, but tourists love it and having been a couple of time now I can see why. Big comfy sofas at the side and a homely atmosphere make for a relaxed and intimate dining experience. There's room enough for it not to feel too crowded even when it's busy (and it usually is), and after one of their speciality drinks you can almost start to feel like you are dining in some baronial home or keep. Really my only problem with the place is that the menu is a teensy bit limited for someone who doesn't eat meat and has a dairy problem. Both times here I've ended up having the fish and chips. Delicious though it is, I would really like to see a wider range of meat- and dairy-free dishes on the menu. Still, the starter of saffron and orange soused mackerel was as close to perfection as you can imagine with the mackerel practically dissolving on the tongue. Herself quickly devoured a pot of mussels with much slurping and obvious gusto, from which I gathered that they were pretty tasty! She followed that with the lemon sole, which with the caper dressing looked so appetising that I almost wished I'd chosen it myself despite the lemon butter sauce. However, I was quite happy with my beer battered haddock and chunky chips. The outrageously dressed rosemary and orange flavoured G & T helped too! Upstairs, they have a large country-decor dining room for parties that can seat up to 22, and a smaller space that can seat 8, so it's a great place to book for private parties. For Scottish cuisine, The Bothy is not quite in the same league as the longer-established Ubiquitous Chip on the other side of Byres Road, but it definitely wins the points in terms of atmosphere and a more reasonably-priced menu.

Yelp
Wonderful spot off the main road in a West End area. Thanks to our taxi driver for telling us about this place. Authentic Scottish food so tasty. Tried a scotch flight for only 12pounds. Food was reasonably priced and tasted amazing. Service was great too

Yelp
We just had our daughters wedding at the Bothy. Food was amazing service excellent and drinks were talked about days later. Couldn't have asked for a better place. We also dined here before the wedding and food was also excellent. Wouldve given them 10 stars.

Moz C.

Yelp
A local friend recommended the Bothy for a true Scottish experience. I'm so glad we took his advice. All the staff wear kilts and those we interacted with were super attentive and sweet. Everything on the menu looked yummy and I decided to order two starters to have more of a variety: seared scallops with bacon jam and Isle of Arran black pudding and their version of haggis. The scallops were cooked beautifully and paired amazingly well with the jam and crispy black pudding. I've had haggis several times in Scotland, and theirs was the yummiest I'd had so far, complete with a silky whiskey sauce I wish they'd bottle and sell. I would love to return and try more on their menu! We happened to be visiting on a Friday afternoon while a wedding party was having a reception in the upstairs room, so we people-watched as the party ordered drinks and walked by to take photos in their handsome finery. A wonderful surprise.

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch at The Bothy which was near our hotel. It's a lovely place, and the fish and chips was excellent.

Pete G.

Yelp
Very nice Scottish restaurant tucked away down a narrow street in Glasgow's West End. Decent menu options of the best dishes of Scotland. Very good variety of single malt local whisky(s) but beer selections could be better. The food is truly excellent including salmon, glazed duck, haggis and rump of lamb. Not the cheapest place to eat but one of the best.

Heather D.

Yelp
My god did we have an amazing experience here! Everything was just delicious, the service great, (I mean, who doesn't enjoy good looking Scottish guys in kilts!) and the prices don't break the bank. They are around the corner from the breath-taking Glasgow college and on a street that is something right out of a harry potter novel. Just magical! The interior is romantic and swanky. What we ordered: *Salmon and horseradish appetizer - just very good. A must order. *Pan seared duck (A special of the night) - fat was rendered out beautifully leaving a perfectly cooked, moist, and delicious duck. I literally licked my plate clean - it was that good. *Lamb flank - again, another perfectly cooked win. Even if you don't usually enjoy lamb - you'll like this dish, *Orange & Raspberry Cheesecake - THIS IS A MUST ORDER. Best cheesecake I've ever had in my life. Not dense or overly rich - but light and fluffy, bright, and just amazing. I'm usually a chocolate person but this dessert beat all the others. *Toffee Pudding - I was not a fan. Very dense and rich. *Chocolate Mousse thing - Again just ok. Go for the cheesecake! Final Verdict: I WISH THEY'D OPEN A LOCATION IN LOS ANGELES. So good! A must stop if you're visiting Glasgow!

Yelp
Was back again from USA with a group from our local office. 20+ people and they handled well. Service was good and so was the food.

Yelp
I'd never been doesn't this inconspicuous lane off byres road before I think I may walk around with my eyes closed So I look at the map in my phone and thing really.... Down there .... Ok must be let's look.... Walking down it opens up to a delightful lane, I see the Hanoi bike shop and think oh that's where that is, I want to go there too.... But I carry on and my sister spots the Bothy before me (I'm still looking at the Hanoi place) We go in proper soaked from the downpour with my niece and nephew in tow We are seated immediately by a chap in a kilt and the 3 of them lot take over the sofa at the table while I'm sat on the wooden chairs .... Yeah cheers Menu is a great price for lunch especially at how Lovely the setting is inside Order the meals and we are asked if we want the kids meals out as soon as they are ready, this was a nice touch as it happens we did .... Just to shut them up sooner than later, however this wasn't to happen, our starters arrived, still no kids food, finished starter still no kids food, mains arrive ..... Oh there is the kids food now! Lost a star sorry The starter was a fantastic scotch egg, full of flavour and very warm indeed ..... On the outside, little cold on the inside of the egg. Besides that I devoured it Plates removed time for the main, which was catch of the day as recommended by the kilted guy, seared cod, mussels and a lobster sauce, on a bed of slightly mashed potato ..... This was delicious, I finished and looked at my plate saddened and longed for another portion .... Back up to 5 stars!!!! Took a while however to clear away the plates .... There for a while before we could order dessert. Kilted man seemed to doing the work alone .... Should they loose a star..... If I wasn't so happy with the food yes it would be but not this time Ordered dessert however and my god it took ageeeeees to come out .... Kids became uneasy and fidgety it was taking so long, no matter how many "you're ice cream is coming" was said it didn't appease them any longer ..... Lost that star again Desserts arrived and my goodness my cheese cake was easily one of best cheesecakes I have had in years! The kids ice cream however was scooped in to a glass and it seems the glass may have been warm as it had a health puddle of melted ice cream at the bottom of it, or it just took them that long to deliver it that melted anyway The dessert was fantastic but not enough to grab that 5th star If they could speed up service this place is a top Notch eatery.

Yelp
Lovely cosy atmosphere with deliciously twee decor and comfy seating, I've been meaning to visit for ages and really enjoyed lunch here. The service was a bit odd, not bad by any means but a bit strange in tone- not quite overfamiliar but a bit of "you're welcome my lovely" etc. I don't mind that sort of chat at all but it's not for everyone. All the staff wore funky kilts which is a sweet wee touch, especially for visitors to the area. They do a "braw deal" menu from 12-6 but i had an open sandwich of chilli hummus and crayfish which was really lovely. Served on a wooden deli board, I loved the tasty flat bread. The accompanying salad was fresh and lively and the skin-on chips which were perfectly well cooked. You could choose soup or chips with the open sandwiches. The pot of tea I had was excellent and the crockery was all really nice to use and great quality. The Bothy is in an absolutely amazing location near to a selection of outstanding antique and vintage shops as well as the cornucopia of delights that is Byres Road!

Yelp
The Bothy is a place that I had always heard good things about but never got around to visiting until Christmas Eve with Ross and his mother. Even though staff were rushed off their feet that evening, the food was delicious and the service was great. So I decided to go for brunch, the best part of any weekend. Forget waking up before 9am, brunch is meant to be enjoyed after you've had a well deserved long lie, that's why The Bothy serve brunch until 3pm. Upon entering The Bothy, it feels like you are transported into someone's house. The beautiful stone brick building has to be one of the prettiest locations in the West End of Glasgow. Cosy tables with sofas and upholstered armchairs adorn the dimly lit main restaurant alongside open fireplaces. In true Scottish fashion, the staff even welcome you in kilts, which is always pleasing on the eye, and are friendly to match. After being shown to our table and offered drinks, I decided to try The Bothy Full Breakfast. Lori opted for The Bothy Vegetarian Breakfast. As Lori also has a nut allergy, she asked our waitress if her vegetarian haggis contained any nuts. A few seconds later after asking the chef, they confirmed that it was nut free. Thumbs up. The menu also states that both breakfasts come with a fried egg, but we were actually offered a choice. I opted for poached and Lori ordered scrambled. I'm not a huge fan of fried eggs outside of my own kitchen so I'm glad we were given a choice. Maybe the menu should reflect that you can choose the egg of your choice? We were starving so it was a welcome relief that we didn't have to wait too long for our order even though the restaurant was packed full of locals or tourists alike either having brunch or ordering from the Braw Deal Set Menu. My plate was overflowing with food, delicious looking food. I loved that both of our breakfasts came with a welcome surprise of some toast. You definitely need a good few slices of toast, especially to dip into beans and runny egg yolks. The Bothy Full Breakfast comes with two Cumberland sausages, two pieces of smoked bacon, potato scone, Stowaway black pudding, beans, grilled tomato and my choice of poached egg. The Cumberland sausages were absolutely delicious. They were some of the best sausages I've ever eaten. High quality, flavoursome and no gristle. The rest of the breakfast was appetizing, but the sausages were the stand out for me. Lori was equally as impressed with her vegetarian breakfast which came with vegetarian sausages, vegetarian haggis, potato scone, beans, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and her choice of scrambled eggs. Lori loved the vegetarian haggis as it was not something you'd normally get in a full breakfast. I'm also led to believe that the scrambled eggs were light and fluffy. The staff were as friendly as I remembered and even though the restaurant was full, they were very attentive. Overall, The Bothy has to be one of the best places in the West End to get brunch. I loved what I had ordered so much that I've been dying to go back ever since and I think it just may be on the cards again this weekend. The Bothy also hosts live music acoustic sets from local musicians who entertain you as you dine. If you don't fancy having brunch, you can also try their great value Braw Deal Set Menu with three courses for just under £15, you will be sure to get your monies worth!

Yelp
I was at the Bothy about a month ago for a family members birthday and I was looking forward to it a lot as I heard several good reviews, but it just did not quite meet up to my expectations. It is hard to pinpoint exactly why as when I reflect back lots of things were good.. Nice table. Friendly staff. Lovely Beer - Innis & Gunn. (One Rum finish and a few of the Original) I think it basically came down to the food in the end. It had been rated so highly by friends that when you go along you expect it to be superb and it turns out the food is pretty average. Cullen Skink was nice, but nothing spectacular. The burger was ....... boring ..... nothing really wrong with it, just a bit plain and uninspiring. Maybe if I had chosen differently from the menu I would have a great experience, but on this selection it was just fairly average food wise and a lot of menu options seemed on the pricey side for what you get.

Yelp
A perfect way to finish our trip to Scotland. A very Scottish restaurant in one of the charming lanes out of Byres Road. With waiters dressed up in kilts, comfortable sofas and paper walls decorated with Thistle, the unique Highland Scottish flower, The Bothy gives a perfect flavor of this wonderful country. And food is also the star here. My chicken liver pate came with a small tasty salad and an intrigue fruit jelly that looked and tasted homemade. My main course was the lamb, a £5 addition to the £12.95 lunch fare, but very well deserved. It came juicier and tastier than I expect, lived it, and the touch of delicious potatoes and black pudding finished up perfectly. The dessert (yes, why not, I was lost already in this wonderful way of delicious temptations) was the toffee pudim, to share. The wine, a glass of Sangiovenese. And we finished our Saturday Easter lunch with a blessed sensation that life is indeed very good. Cheers!

Yelp
Such a quaint, cozy little restaurant tucked along a small side street across from Ashton Lane. The food and service are ok but the ambiance is really what would draw me back if I was ever to visit Glasgow again. It feels like a small little pub, just a bit prettier and dressed up on the inside. My husband and I started our dinner with the tower of Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties in a House Whisky sauce and it was very good, it would definitely be the perfect meal for a cold winter day. For mains my husband had one of their specials, Chorizo and Tomato Tagliatelle in a creamy tomato sauce and I tried the Oven Roasted Rump of Ayrshire Lamb with chorizo, sautéed potatoes, green beans and a rosemary gravy. Initially they brought out a dish that I didn't order but quickly brought out the correct one, even taking my husband's pasta back because it was getting cold as he sat waiting for me. The pasta dish was tasty but it could have used a bit more chorizo and the lamb dish was good, although the lamb was not very tender and I didn't really feel like the components of the dish really went together. They were all delicious in their own right but together it was a bit confusing. For dessert we tried the Blueberry Creme Brûlée and it was a delicious preparation. Overall the atmosphere was great, the servers were very nice, and the food presentation was very good...it was just the food itself that was lacking a little something.

Laura M.

Yelp
I have to admit that I was surprised on finding out that this is part of the big scary G1 chain. Though, this place does make a bit more sense to me now I'm armed with that knowledge. The menu has a good range of options and certainly has more than a few Scottish ones in there. This is surprisingly, not that common for most Glasgow restaurants, so makes for a bonus on cold, rainy days. As Catriona mentions, the prices are very decent (especially if you are taking advantage of their meal deals) and this makes it all the easier to convince the boy we should go here on occasion opposed to the infamous Curlers. Admittedly, it is probably due The Bothy being a welcome change from Curlers that I am nudging the star rating up that little bit higher. Although, I also like the secluded location of this place and the relaxed atmosphere. Not the be all and end all of West End restaurants but good for a budget meal and very pleasant to sit in.

Edmund A.

Yelp
Excellent local Scottish food and friendly staffs in their traditional wears. It's just a turn off the main Glasgow West End high street and definitely well worth the find. The haddock fish & chip is fresh and very satisfactory, simply honest good food :-)

Mary S.

Yelp
The location and decor is nice. They have some tables where part of the seating is a couch which I liked. The restaurant is located in an alley so you wouldn't know about it unless someone mentioned it to you. There's outdoor seating and the restaurant being located in an alley makes feel like you're not in a big city. I ordered the mussels in chili sauce as a starter and it was great. The order is quite large so I would recommend splitting it with someone. I had the Tuna for dinner and I thought it was a lil over cooked but it was still yummy. I'm not used to eating Tuna with potatoes and vegetables....I was looking for some wasabi :-p and rice. Overall the service, decor and food were very good and I would recommend this place.

Jason M.

Yelp
Amazing food, friendly staff, recommended by some locals. Their haggis neeps and tatties appetizer was amazing, first time having haggis for me and I'm glad I ate it here!

Adrian B.

Yelp
We went on our last evening in Glasgow; a special treat with our son...it had been recommended but he had never been. The welcome was very friendly, good and helpful service, good menu, the food excellent. Very enjoyable... and comfortable. Not cheap but good value. Definitely a place to return to. Recommended

Beth M.

Yelp
We ate here on August 19 and had a wonderful dinner. The fried polenta beef steak and ale pie and lemon and almond tart were delicious! We were very comfortable and would eat there again if time allowed. Our waiter, Scott was extremely friendly.

Quan T.

Yelp
The place is a bit hidden, but once inside you'll feel at home. I felt like I was at someone's home having a meal. It's a beautiful space. We had black pudding with scallops, which we all enjoyed. I am a fan of black pudding and this take on it was well balanced. Not too irony. We also had their take on haggis with nips and tatties and my friend who doesn't like haggis actually enjoyed it. My other friend who is a native quite enjoyed it. I got the Oven-Roasted Rump of Ayrshire Lamb and was nice. The lamb wasn't gamey and actually tasted closer to beef with subtle hints of lamb. Very delicious.

Eleanor A.

Yelp
I've been here three times and the food has been mediocre each time. Think that was its last chance. Nice surroundings and atmosphere, so it's not all bad..

Craig A.

Yelp
I've been to the Bothy for lunch a few times, and have always been impressed with the quality of food served. Situated just off Byres Road in Ruthven lane (where half the restaurants seem to hide), Bothy is quite a big restaurant with a lot of open space. there's also a private dining room upstairs which can be rented out. The food served is traditional Scottish/British. With the dishes, they don't tend to be too complicated in terms of the number of flavours on the plate, which is good as the quality is what really shines through. I quite like having fish here, as it's always cooked to perfection and brilliant quality. At lunchtimes all week, there's a set menu on with 2 courses at £12.95 and 3 courses at £14.95, great value for the quality of food on offer. The service here is always really warm and friendly, my friend says it's a bit too friendly, so some people may find it overbearing, but that's personal preference. It can be a touch on the slow side at times, so I'd reccomend not coming here for a quick lunch.

Sara C.

Yelp
It's like a country pub down a lane in Glasgow! I really enjoyed my visit to The Bothy. I went with a group on a pre-organised dinner trip so I can't comment on the full menu or the price. The Bothy is set up like a country pub, exposed brick walls and old style radiators. You could forget where you were! The selection of food we were given was really nice: three choices for each of the three courses. I had chicken liver parfait for starters. It came with rough oatcakes and an onion jam. It was really delicious but the oatcake:parfait ratio was a little off. The haggis offered with neeps and tatties looked pretty awesome, served in a three layered column and drowning in whisky sauce. The soup of the day was tomato but many people said it was far too oniony and chunky. The selection for the main course included a cajun-spiced fillet of salmon with creme fraiche and sauteed potatoes. Really good!. I can't comment much on the other courses as I can't remember them (No, the salmon wasn't *that* good, it was the effect of the wine!). Many of my colleagues commented that the portions were over-sized, not a problem I had myself though. For desert a had a gorgeous panna cotta. Yum! nicely presented and not too sweet. Just the way I like it. The service was really good, everyone was helpful and smiled constantly. However, I had a bit of a problem when my desert was served by an obvious smoker (she must have been just in from a break). The food is on the good side of average, the setting and atmosphere is cozy and comforting and the staff are lovely. Overall a lovely dining experience. Lovely but not fantastic.

Graeme W.

Yelp
I was recently in The Bothy for my friends 30th and, like Sara C, was given a pre-determined menu at a set price of £26 per person for 3 courses. The private room was through the bar and up the stairs, just past the toilets and upon entering I thought I took a step back in time. The layout of the room was like you would expect to see in the middle of the countryside. Exposed brick walls, chunky radiators, a beautiful fireplace and even a clothes pulley that I remember my gran having. It was cosy, friendly and very welcoming. As well as easily being able to forget that you were not only in the middle of Glasgow but were situated just off Byres Rd, one of Glasgow's busiest streets on a Saturday night. For starters I had haggis, neeps and tatties which was absolutely drenched in whisky sauce and served in three layers. The whisky sauce was deliciously creamy with just the right amount of salt, pepper and whisky to make the sauce what it is. My friend had the minestrone soup which looked delicious, delivered with a slice of thick, hearty looking bread. For mains it was the rib eye steak, naturally (me man, me eat meat etc etc), that was served with a green peppercorn sauce and thick cut chips. The chips were lovely and a delicate little crunch to them that made chips the way they should be. I did ask for my steak to be blue as I am one of the few people who would probably prefer to eat their meat raw (or, like I do at home, fry it on each side for about 10-20 seconds) than have it taste and resemble the leather sole of a shoe. The steak was delivered medium rare at best, which was a little disappointing but maybe a hint that eating blue steak is more nauseating than manly, still, nothing will change my mind and me likes me steak blue. Then came the pudding. Oh the pudding. The most deliciously sweet blueberry Crème brûlée served with a little slice of homemade short bread that done great for dipping/scooping after I had ate the caramelised portion at the top. All in all the night was a success and would definitely be 4 or 5 stars had I seen more of the building or had a proper look at the diners menu and not a predetermined one. Excellent night with reasonably priced drinks for a menu in Glasgow's West End.

John C.

Yelp
I would not be able to find this restaurant unless we have a local associate. The ambiance is very homey and the service is wonderful. I had the scallop aperture to and Beef Wellington for the main course. Both were good especially when we paired it with a glass of red wine.

Catriona M.

Yelp
I think I give The Bothy a bit of a hard time. After all, its part of the giant G1 chain taking over Glasgow (which I immediately associate with mediocre food) and it's situated right next to Stravaigan- one of my favourite restaurants of all time. However, The Bothy is a nice, laid back, scottish stylee bistro-restuarant with warm, welcoming interior, hearty 'scottish' meals and cheerful kilted staff. Situated on Ruthven Lane opposite Hillhead Underground, this place has a very good meal deal, sorry, 'braw deal' with two courses early evening for £9.99. I wouldn't say the quality of food rivals it's neighbours, but it's definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Tucked away in a back street off Byres Road, this gem of a restaurant serves up traditional Scottish fare with a smile. It's like a Scottish country retreat in the middle of the West End. We headed there on Burns Night having already been turned away from a number of other places. Despite being fully booked they did all they could to accommodate us. The mussels were delicious and the haggis neeps and tatties were above par. So if you are looking for good food in cosy Scottish surroundings, great service and affordable prices, we recommend it!

Qype User (chris_…)

Yelp
Great Scottish themed restaurant! As you are probably aware Glasgow seems to be lacking in traditional scottish cuisine and atmosphere. The surroundings are homely and the staff wear kilts. The food is always tasty and of a high standard. My favourite main dish is the game in a red wine sauce with vegetables. They also have a private dining area which is nice for family dinners or birthdays. I would recommend a visit to the Bothy im sure you will be impressed!

Yelp
Quintessentially Scottish. Amazing food and atmosphere.

Yelp
We've been here a few times. Itscompletely unpretentious so good place to take your gran who doesn't like anywhere 'too posh'. The food is nice but not really great. A bit safe and doesn't really pack flavour.

Yelp
We went to the Bothy on a Friday night to celebrate surviving the week and were very impressed with the entire experience. Being a bit early we managed to make it in time for the 2 course for 12.95 and both courses were amazing. I had the chicken liver pate and catch of the day which was a cajun salmon with potatoes and salad, my boyfriend had the mushroom toast and apple glazed pork. Although stuffed, we had to try dessert and moved up to a three course option that included a sticky toffee pudding (which was the best I have ever had). The restaurant itself is beautiful inside and the staff were very nice, some of the best service we have had in Glasgow. I highly recommend giving it a try for a nicer evening (don't forget to make a reservation on a weekend).

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants during my visit. Really interesting interior design and a menu with plenty of variety. Pleasant waitstaff.

Yelp
A gastropub that does a really good job of feeling like a cosy pub, whilst in reality being a restaurant. They offer a great range of quality traditional Scottish dishes and although it can be a bit pricey in the evenings, they offer a good value Braw Deal menu earlier in the day.

Yelp
Lovely surroundings for family get togethers, rather expensive but very good quality meals and wonderful surroundings with extremely good service.

Yelp
Can a restaurant get a full star upgrade just for the location and decor - well yup. Not that the food at The Bothy is not top notch - it is but maybe just a hint shy of some of the city's other outstanding restaurants but when you combine the ambiance and friendly service the Bothy stands with the best of Glasgow. We were visiting from the US and had a cab drop us off on Byers Road (it was raining - shocking) and proceeded to wander down the alley to the left of Ruthven Lane - after a moment we walked back and found the street sign (seriously Scotland - why do you make the street signs so hard to find) and trundled down Ruthven Lane to the cutest little restaurant in the city. The Bothy feels like a great neighborhood stop - we were meeting a local so felt like we had found a wee bit of the city that the tourist miss. This was our very first night in Scotland so our menu choices may lean to the obvious but that is not a bad thing at all. Started with Caledonian Best which was is a very fine brew - my wife went with the Scottish 75 and also enjoyed the drink - in fact we each had a few. Our starter had to be Haggis, Neeps & Tatties with a Whisky Cream sauce - if it was a fairly standard treatment of the dish no one complained and there were no left overs - excellent. I ordered the Scottish Salmon Supreme (sense a trend) and my goodness was it delicious - perfectly prepared salmon on a bed of chorizo and peas with potatoes - nothing wrong with fairly simple ingredients put together with care. Our friend from Glasgow had the same and was similarly impressed. My wife tried the Scrabster Haddock - she loves fish and chips (you can't get good chips in the States) and was very happy with haddock and destroyed the chips. We had to finish the meal with Cranachan - this was different than I had previously eaten but certainly very good - the shortbread added a nice crunch to the whisky whipped cream and it was a beautiful dish. Good thing the rain had stopped and we walked off the dinner. I would put The Bothy at a must visit on any trip to Glasgow.

Yelp
Fantastic! I often visit The Bothy for dinner with friends and family and it is always good quality food and a good time for all who join me. The waiting staff are always helpful and cheerful when serving and the food, well as already expressed, it's mouthwatering.

Yelp
The Bothy always seems busy, especially later on in the evenings when compared to their competitors. All in all I would recommend it for good value for money, great food and very friendly staff. Would definitely go back again.

Yelp
I just had lunch here today, and I have to say, the attitude of our server was nothing short of ice cold, like the wind that blew in on top of us with every opening of the door. The service was really bad, and I hate to say, this is becoming a trend on Byres Road at the moment. I had the Toulouse sausages and mash, which was really not great at all... There was barely any mashed potatoes, which is a surprise as its not expensive to make mashed potatoes. it was listed as Garlic Mash, but there was not a taste of anything, probably because it was drowning in a 'gravy' which had more of a beef stock consistency. THe sausages looked uncooked, they were actually pink... the fish and chips were grand, and the desserts were ok.. But honestly, the staff in there are either attractive and dim, or the guy who served us for most courses, was AWFUL!! When my friend asked for the coats, he made a snide noise, and gruffly wandered off to ge them.. The food is not great, the service atrocious, and its a terrible pity because the surroundings are very nice. Dont BOTHer with the Bothy. (SO naff...!)

Yelp
Great food, with a nod to local produce, inventive menu, competitively priced for the area, service levels high
