This Italian City Looks Frozen in the Middle Ages—and It’s World-famous for Chocolate

"Near the cathedral with a window looking onto Piazza IV Novembre, this enoteca‑slash‑restaurant offers great, very fresh cuisine that’s a bit less Umbrian than Osteria a Priori; there are "rivers of wine and also live music," Cucchia raves, calling it her favorite place for an evening out." - Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz is a writer and editor based in Rome. One of the most enchanting and authentic Perugian restaurants. Perfect for a romantic date or for a group of friends.

Great ambiance with jazz playing in the background. Apparently, Perugia hosts the largest jazz festival in Europe during summer. The place is on top of this building. It opens at 7pm for dinner and at 6:59pm it was still pitch dark. I guess they don’t start and don’t prepare to start a second earlier. The round thing is a vegetable pie. It sounds boring but it was pumpkin with mushrooms and truffle oil. I didn’t taste truffle in any of the dishes, however. The reason for four stars is because we ordered two different pastas but they both shared ground beef as the main ingredient which overpowered all other ingredients listed. I didn’t taste ricotta cheese or truffle oil or mushrooms I just tasted ground beef in both dishes.

If you’re looking for a place with an amazing food, the variety of local wines and welcoming ambience then that’s the best choice. The quality of food is just outstanding. Moreover I have to admit that I’ve tried a lot of tiramisu in all around Italy and this is one of the best!

This place is a gem. I loved everything. The food is beautifully plated and comforting, just delicious. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. If I lived in perugia would definitely be my favourite spot.

I asked my Airbnb host for a lunch recommendation and she very graciously booked this lovely place for me directly with the owner, Filippo. He greeted me warmly and the other staff were equally kind and friendly. The vibe is relaxed and friendly yet also sophisticated. The menu combines classics and innovative dishes and SALAD actually finds its way onto many of the plates. My lunch was so delicious that I came back for dinner. I wanted something light and was glad I took the server’s suggestion of the tomino mele noci e miele (melted cheese with magic and salad). Come on over. Enjoy. Update: I ended up in Perugia for a week and went back several times. Loved every dish. The cheesecake is heavenly. The people are the best.

Just do yourself a favor and spend some time here. The food is exceptional, the prices very reasonable, and the wines by the glass are cheap (€3.50-4.50) and of high quality. We live here in Italy any are blown away by this place.

A genuinely local experience very close to the main square. Very welcoming staff and excellent food and wine in a lovely authentic setting. Good value although could have done with a slightly larger portion of lamb rib!

Absolutely wonderful restaurant in the centre of Perugia. Delicious food and wine, a vibrant and cosy atmosphere, and SUCH hospitable and welcoming hosts. It felt like being at a party at somebody’s house. We went twice!

Yelp
First off great selection of wine, that rotates on a daily basis. The cooks source their ingredients from local food growers and most is organic and GMO-free. Had a nice lunch here with great white sauced tortellini pasta, and desert had a fantastic cream with blackberry topping. Right in the center of Perugia and perched up on a hill with a nice view. Great service and professional in every way.

Yelp
I know what you're thinking, the name is wine shop not wine shop and restaurant? But it does both!! And I'm so happy it does. I went here with my parents when they were visiting, because they aren't on a $5 per meal budget like me. With that said it's still not expensive, for three people it was 65 euros for an appetizer, 3 meals, a bottle of Chianti, and a dessert. The man who I assume owns it is really sweet and although the restaurant was packed he found room for us. The food was delicious and to somewhat prove it check out the attached photos. Go here!!! The environment of the restaurant is very cute too.
