New Business Traveler: For Hotelier Ari S. Heckman, Baltimore Is a Playground

"When I go to Baltimore, I also always go to a series of vintage stores there because Baltimore has sneaky, amazing vintage shopping—both clothes and home wares—and I'm always looking for little odds and ends to replace things in the hotel that somehow have gotten damaged or destroyed or lost. My favorite is Bottle of Bread in Mount Vernon. It's one of the places on my Baltimore Google Maps list."

Google
This place was perfect. I was looking for a graduation dress and hadn't found anything, but struck gold here. It is a curated vintage store so the prices are a bit higher than just a thrift store, but I don't find them to be unreasonable as the owner curates a really nice selection clothes. The owner is very nice and the vibe in the store is comforting and overall a good shopping experience. There are fitting rooms as well to try on the clothes.

Google
Beautiful and unique space with great deals and genuine finds! I saw a pair of real snakeskin boots for $48.

Beautifully selected pieces and good prices! Will definitely be going back!

It’s always hard for me to find a vintage shop that has a good selection for mens clothing that isn’t just sports related attire but this place definitely had a good selection. I was able to find a pair of Jean shorts that I needed on a hot summer day and I was tempted to keep looking at more clothing, but I was unfortunately on a time crunch so I didn’t have a chance to do so. Next time I’m in Baltimore I’ll return to this shop and check out what they have.

Randomly walked in here today and was so pleasantly surprised! They have the cutest vintage outfits, super high quality, and for affordable prices. The salesperson was kind and helpful too! 10/10 do recommend

Google
The cutest!!!! The woman working was sweet and helpful but not pushy at all and their stuff is obviously well curated - definitely more in smaller sizes but a good variety of styles and even though the shops small we found several items that fit great and were in perfect condition for an awesome price. Definitely recommend!!

Google
Happened upon this place and found the most amazing light blue leather 70s trench. Near perfect condition, there was no way I was leaving without it, and the price was imo a steal. Made my trip!

Google
Super cute clothes and jewelry! Great place for gifts or something nice for yourself, lots of local artisans with wares here. One star off because pretty slim clothing pickings if you're larger than a size medium.

Yelp
What a charming vintage store! I work nearby and was looking for a dress to wear to holiday parties this year and decided to stop by Bottle of Bread. It's definitely not large, but I was surprised to find many pieces I wanted to try on. Lots of styles, sizes, and eras represented! The prices of the items I looked at were really reasonable. I found two great dresses and paid less than $100 with tax. One is definitely a going out dress and the other is more everyday/work-appropriate. The customer service is great, and it's a cute shop! I'll definitely keep it in my rotation when looking for some great vintage pieces!

Yelp
I'm so happy to have found this place. Situated by one of the best barbers (beatnik barbershop!) AND the wonderfully delicious bun shop, this place is a vintage wonderland. The prices are hella reasonable, the sizes are very inclusive with plus size and petite options unlike a lot of vintage stores running very small or in one range, and the quality and variety or the clothes and accessories is phenomenal. I found so many things to try on and dresses to pine over, and bought some super cute vintage jeans for only 25 bucks that fit me way better than anything at Zara or H&M! I can't wait to go back please give this place so much business it's truly one of the best vintage places in town!!!

Yelp
I stopped in at Bottle of Bread while visiting a friend nearby and was pleasantly surprised by their selection and prices. Found a great jacket for my brother for only $25. At home (SF) it would have easily been $100+. Also purchased a small dhurrie rug for a great price as well. If you're in Baltimore, and enjoy vintage, I highly recommend a stop at Bottle of Bread.

Yelp
Great little second hand fashion shop with shoes, clothes, handmade jewelry and art. Nice lady runs it. Great quick browse. Well picked items fur sale.

Yelp
Definitely glad I stopped by as I was en route to The Bun Shop. Lots of great finds - clothing, shoes, accessories, and home goods. The only irregular or, rather, unpleasant part was their customer service. It was rather odd. Made an attempt to make conversation since I'm relatively new. Only met with curt responses. I felt like I transplanted back to L.A. Shiver. I'll still give it a go with the hope of having a pleasant experience in the near future.

Yelp
Everything is thoughtfully curated, reasonably priced, and just special. I try to stop by every few weeks and always leave with something good.

Yelp
Great vintage selection spanning multiple decades. All clothes are well loved and cared for. The prices all seem to be fair. The owner is wonderful and knowledgable. Definitely one of my favorite shops!

Yelp
My all-time favorite vintage store, plus they carry a great selection of items made by artists in the city! Things I've bought from Bottle of Bread: mugs, deodorant, lots of jewelry, shoes, dresses, plant hangers, art, and who knows what else. It's the best shop! And everyone who works here is friendly as heck.

Yelp
Hola cow! We found this absolute gem of a shoppe on fleet street. I couldn't stop my eyes from looking at all the cool art, jewelry and clothes. Bought a bunch of cool schtuff. Will definitely be back 4 more, so save me some if you go there.

Yelp
Please, more vintage stores in Bmore city! Love this little shop, carefully tended to by Mo the owner. Every little detail in here is artfully arranged. I got an awesome blouse for $18. HOLLAR. Would love to see more inventory. Thanks for coming to the hood, BOB!

Yelp
I like this store. It's cute and you can tell they really have chosen good pieces. My only callout is that I've never been greeted or offered assistance the three times I've been in there. Never. They weren't busy and my most recent visit there was one person in the store. They could improve in that area, make your customers feel wanted.

Yelp
So many great finds here at Bottle of Bread... The owner sources both vintage and artisan products for her shop. I always drop by when I am in the area because I never know what I may stumble upon.

Yelp
Definitely glad I stopped in here. Tons of really cute locally made and vintage clothes and housewares, all very affordable too. I'm really stoked to have a shop like this in midtown!

Yelp
New location for this awesome shop and it is soooooo cool! Larger space has much to look at and so many "must haves" for self and for gifts. What I love is that local Baltimore makers are well represented and the vintage clothing is so unique that you can be sure to stand out in any crowd. Mo has a great sense of style and each piece is hand selected and displayed so well that I always shop there when in Baltimore since she always seems to have new stuff - for both men and women.

Molly W.

Yelp
This shop is amazing! There is definitely some great care put into the selection of vintage pieces--lots of newer handmade local stuff too. It's a newer vintage spot, and the owner, Mo, gave me a lot of background information on a the things I tried on. She is super sweet and knows her stuff! Left with a ring that has already become and everyday staple, and I'm going back for more!

Yelp
Great shop in a great location. Reasonable pricing for carefully selected quality vintage items. Unique pieces of jewelry include beadwork and knit bracelets and necklaces. This is the perfect place to buy a gift for someone, treat yourself and support a small business. I wish Baltimore had more shops like this.
