Food cooked to perfection 10/10 Espresso Martini 11/10 service 10/10 we love a window seat however we had to request upon arrival as table allocated was too small and felt crammed I could hear next tables full blown conversation the room felt on the cool side the only thing missing was back ground French music I could hear it playing in room adjacent overall a pleasant experience for our first visit on the pricey side for portion sizes but food was good highly recommended for that special occasion. £93 a service charge of £8 on top.

Gorgeous French food, it was absolutely delicious. There was a lovely view of the Abbey whilst we enjoyed the beautifully made food. The duck was cooked to perfection, and melted off the bone. The staff were very friendly. The atmosphere was great, and it was spotlessly clean. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience, and I would recommend here to anyone visiting Hexham.

In terms of quality, value and atmosphere, this is by far our favourite restaurant in Northumberland. The food is always excellent - we have visited 4 times now and the food has been perfect every time - the scallops are especially good. The staff are so accommodating and friendly, we’ve been served by Millie mostly and she can’t do enough. I’d particularly like to highlight the fact that we mentioned that the brand of water being used contained fluoride and there were better options available; the next time we visited they had actually changed the water to the brand we suggested! We couldn’t believe it, that small touch really made us feel at home and we are so appreciative (usually because we have had the odd look for pointing those sort of things out). In summary, this restaurant is 10 out of 10 and we can’t wait to go back.

Great place. Steak was amazing! My partner had the duck, which was delicious, and we shared the escargot. The staff are lovely, very friendly. We will be back.

Valentines lunch was excellent the restaurant was comfortably busy, the menu catered for all tastes. Our choices were well presented and very well cooked. The best meal we have had in a long time. Congratulations to all the staff

We've been meaning to come here since we moved to the area. Came for my birthday and had ribeye steak, very tasty and apple tarte tartin. Beautiful food and a really lovely atmosphere. Great prices and we're looking forward to coming again.

Impeccable food and great service. I enjoyed a Christmas set meal with my French student group today at Le Bouchon. Greg and the team were welcoming and friendly, efficient service and of course the food was delicious! See you same time next year. MERCI ET JOYEUX NOËL !

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised. Fine dining in a little town. French food in an English Village. Charming inside. When we made the reservation we asked what the dress code was, no mandatory dress code, we dressed up (cocktail/wedding like attire) anyways & glad we did. Everyone was in at least a button up shirt and slacks, some had coats. The atmosphere was classy. We weren't sure if we needed to make a reservation but glad we did, it was a busy Saturday night. The food portions were filling. The food was delicious. Also ordered the Duck Fat Chips, a glass of white wine recommended with the meal, and Escargot (forgot to take pics of these). The escargot was amazing. The food was appetizing to the sight. It was evident much heart went into each dish. The staff was polite and attentive. The price was reasonable for the quality and portion. Will definitely be going back because there are many more items on the menu I'd like to try. Do recommend.

Yelp
Holy cow! Call me impressed. On our way to Edinburgh we stopped to find a place to have dinner. Although out of the way, this restaurant in Hexham is a hidden gem. An unassuming building from the outside leads to a softly decorated dining room with French prints and neutral tones that leads to a calming dining experience. My appetizer was one of the best chicken liver parfaits I've had in a long time. Perfect baguettes accompanied the pate which also came with cornichons and white onions. Cheese soufflé was light and airy with a hint of saltiness to add effect to the overall taste. The mains of duck confit and lamb rounded out the full eating experience. My only one criticism is that the duck was a little bit dry as the dish became cooler. Lamb entree was fabulous though!!! Such an amazing little restaurant that just went through a new renovation to the dining room that just makes the whole experience a must try for anyone who enjoys French cuisine.

Yelp
Recently renovated so the venue was lovely. I'm visiting from the US and went there for lunch yesterday and everything was delicious from the French onion soup to the escargots.

Yelp
It took me two years, but I finally came back for a second visit. The food was just as glorious as I remembered, although this time the service was quite disappointing. But oh, it is worth it. And I'm hopeful that it was just a blip. Honestly they could throw this food at you with a scowl and it would still be worth going here. It's so good. We managed to snag their last reservation for a Saturday night, and enjoyed the assiette of charcuterie - just as good as I remembered it, and served with beautiful warm homemade bread. For our mains, we shared the crispy duck confit with gratin potatoes, french beans, and bacon, and the pan fried stone bass with saffron confit potatoes, tomato, and samphire. It would be impossible to say whose dish was better, as they were both perfect examples of what great duck and fish should be. I normally favour fish dishes, and while this one was perfectly cooked, light, flavourful, and lovely, the duck was the big surprise. It was so succulent, with really flavourful meat and wonderful potatoes served in an individual cast iron bowl. It could easily be the best duck I'd ever had. The vanilla creme brûlée was a classic way to finish the meal. Very delicious, with flecks of vanilla bean visible. I don't know what happened with the service, to be honest. Large party upstairs, maybe? We didn't even get menus for ages, and had to ask for them. My request for tap water (I'm pregnant, so get pretty thirsty all the time) wasn't met without a reminder. That's how the whole evening felt. Honestly, I got the feeling it was a language barrier issue. One young woman, perhaps French (as several staff seemed to be), just could barely understand us. She had to get the manager to talk to us when she couldn't understand what I'd said when I asked for "tap water." It was a shame, because the food was so fantastic and very good value. Even if sometimes there is a service blip, an apology would have been nice, as I think we were noticeably waiting for menus and drinks for quite an unusual length of time. Still, it wouldn't stop me from coming back, especially to take advantage of the set menu deal. I am telling you, I do not know how they make their food so delicious, but it's worth driving from afar to taste it for yourself.

Yelp
Oh. My. Flippin'. God. Wow, what a place. Bouchon Bistrot in Hexham is seriously, seriously good. Très bien even. No, really, the previous review stating this establishment deserves six stars is not wrong at all. Am so chuffed to bits that my little town of Hexham has such a true foodie destination to rival many places in which I've had the pleasure of eating. I can totally see why Bouchon won the 'F Word' Best French Restaurant award in 2009, truly, truly deserved. The only thing that has frustrated me here in writing this review is... why the heck have I not been to eat here before now?! OK, calm down for a tick. And breathe. So, Bouchon Bistrot sits on Gilesgate, just outside the main town centre of Hexham, an easy walk down the hill from the Market Place. Inside, the decor is smart, warm and inviting but without being OTT and you are made to feel very welcome upon your arrival. I was in a party of nine and we had the luxury of a private dining table upstairs, but downstairs there was ample space and a good number of people dining in on what was a standard Monday evening. The menu is your classic French cuisine, with a good range on offer, althought not many vegetarian options. For starters, a number of our party had the cured salmon, others opted for the French Onion Soup (which smelt amazing) whilst I bucked the trend with the Goats Cheese. All plates came promptly and everyone was very satisfied with what came out. Our mains were again divided between the rump steak and the confit of duck. I went for the latter and boy, was it good. Crisp skin, soft flesh, accompanied by a fondant potato stack that just melted and crisp cabbage with lardons, I really cannot describe in words just how delicious this was! The wine on offer was also excellent, this was a seriously good meal indeed. To finish, the creme brulee was very good, although for a pudding guy it was perhaps the weakest of the courses - if I am being severely picky that is. Not that it stopped me from cleaning up the entire plate. The service was simply outstanding. Attentive but you didn't notice it at the same time. Each course we were wished 'bon appetit' and it certainly lived up to expectations. As you can tell, I am rather taken by Bouchon Bistrot. I cannot wait to get an opportunity to go back again to sample some of their other dishes. People, if you ever want a treat for the taste buds, get yourself out to Hexham and book a table at Bouchon. I promise you won't be disappointed you made the effort.

Yelp
An excellent eating experience. The service was second to none and the authentic French food was a delight. Totally recommend.

Yelp
6 stars deserved. Hexham despite lagging behind the Web 2.0 generation (thankfully) & being a town where often there are tractors driving up the high street is to me a "have your cake & eat it" place. The beauty of Northumberland National Park 15 mins away, North Pennines similar - & places like Bouchon. It is an absolute gem of a place & the diamond is real French people front of house & in the kitchen. I have held this view for a long time before Mr Ramsey popped onto the scene btw. It's classic French cuisine - service is impeccable - & the menu includes some of the best tasting meals I've had - this includes travelling to France for nearly 10 years. But - don't go in with British expectations of getting as much as you can for £2.99. This is the art form that is dining in France. Flavours are perfectly balanced, cooked to order with fresh ingredients - the size of the portion is balanced accordingly. The maitre d' is a true gentleman & credit to the town. Probably one of the most civilised places in Northumberland - & Britain for that matter.

Yelp
Don't let the small numbers of reviews scare you. Wonderful real french food at a reasonable price, especially if you take advantage of their early bird specials like we were able to. Roasted chicken feast was moist and tender. The cheese plate dessert was fabulous and worth the upcharge if you like cheeses. Happy to take the recommendation of the wine, turned out a lovely pairing with the lamb shank and duck confit, my wife and I were having. One of the best meals we've had so far on our holiday. All for a reasonable price.

Traditional French cuisine but with vegetarian options! One of the best restaurants in the North East.

Yelp
My wife raved about this place after lunch there the other week. Can't wait to try it for myself.
