My partner and I visited Bouillon l’Entrecôte for his birthday — it was our first French dining experience in Sydney, and we were full of excitement. The ambiance was charming, and the staff were polite. But sadly, the food and some service details left us disappointed.
We ordered their steak, cooked medium. While the inside was tender, the outer layer was overly charred — it tasted bitter, not seared. I’ve never had a steak that actually tasted burnt before. At the time, I tried to focus on enjoying the night, but the more I thought about it afterwards, the more I felt something was off. Later I saw other reviews and photos showing steaks that were much more evenly cooked, confirming my suspicion that ours was not up to standard.
On top of that, our table was wobbly — a small but annoying issue, especially when you’re trying to have a special dinner.
We really wanted to love this place, and perhaps we were just unlucky. But for a birthday dinner with high expectations, it was disheartening to leave with a bitter taste, both literally and emotionally.
