We came here for breakfast and were not disappointed at all, not just for their tasty food but also the friendly staff and atmosphere. We ordered lattes and breakfast sandwiches which were great, the price was just right. Another thing that caught our attention wad that they have Art on their walls for sale as well as some souvenirs from local artist. There is also an ATM inside just in case this information is helpful. Parking available right outside.

We are on a continuous search for great local cafés. This is the gem that sets the bar for Rochester. Very relaxed ambience. Local students working on their laptops. Small families enjoying food. Couples and friends chatting over coffee. They support local businesses. We came on a Saturday afternoon, when students from RIT were given tables to show and sell their art in a non intrusive way. Coffee is really fantastic. I had an Americano, with their Espresso Blend. Roast master told me he does the sourcing, blending and roasting. This one had Ethiopian and Colombian beans. Fabulous blend of earthy and chocolate tones. I bought a pound to prepare with my French Press at hotel and the roaster grinded it to a perfect coarse. Side note: please never drink coffee from those hotel room machines. You can always do better! Come, have a coffee, have lunch, buy beans or ground coffee for your enjoyment at home. This is the type of place that makes café lovers feel right at home, even when traveling.

Google
I used to love coming here---especially to their back patio. It was one of the best in the area. Recently the owners decided to put a new AC Condenser Unit in the middle of the patio----a Goodman that makes it impossible to have conversations, or focus, spoiling its best assett for no reason. It's 72 decibles---as loud as coffee grinder or vacuum cleaner. Ya'll what the heck were you thinking lol? Your cafe is successfull---spend money on a quieter unit or put more thought into its placment (the old one was on the side away from everyone).

Google
A perfect spot to grab a coffee and take a break from the city. They have an eclectic menu, ideal atmosphere and responsive ownership. Their weekly open mics are also a treat in themselves. Would highly recommend ✌️

Google
Love, love this place. Went to Rochester with extended family for the birth of my Nephew's son. We came upon this lovely cafe. Love everything about it. Best latte ever!! The lighting is perfect for photos. Great service. Great food but best of all was the price. I wish there was a place like this where I live!!!!

Google
Truly a fascinating coffee shop that is more than meets the eye! Not only do they have fantastic coffee, they regularly host art and music events, and have become something of a center for local creatives. If you're looking to step away from the noise of downtown, Boulder is a great place to do that. The atmosphere is always lively and upbeat, with good music and conversation to be had.

Google
What a charming find! Had a delicious late morning breakfast - both food and coffee were especially yummy. Relaxing place for a conversation with friends or on your own, sitting looking out the window to watch the world rush by. We'll definitely be back 🤎

Google
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Excellent cafe to mingle, work, and have a great brunch with colleagues or family or by yourself :) Amazing atmosphere. Always friendly and welcoming. I love coming here every time I have the chance. They make my day better 🥹 P.S I recommend the soup (I had broccoli and cheddar) and the Cobs Hill Cajun chicken sandwich. Sorry no picture, I guess I ate it too fast.

Yelp
Great place to chill, study, or just get a drink. They have a large menu with food and drinks, including cocktails. The interior is very spacious, lots of tables and couches to sit at and they have wifi and outlets, which make for an incredible study spot. Bonus points for having a parking lot! They also sell art and jewelry from local artists, ranging from small postcards and sketches for $1-3 to larger paintings, as well as fun handmade jewelry. The baristas were super friendly and relaxed which reflected the overall atmosphere of the cafe.

Kenya M.

Yelp
Great service. Great drink options. The baristas were very nice in helping me decide what I wanted - a seasonal drink called lost in a corn maze, which was hot chocolate, pumpkin spice, and peanut butter. Yes. It sounds like hot mess but it was very tasty. I got it in frozen latte form. In the lounge area is one of the least comfortable couches I've ever sat on in my entire life. However, right next to it is a perfectly comfortable couch. I could definitely see this becoming an awesome little reading spot.

pantea T.

Yelp
Good coffee and service and cozyyy place! I would say the prices could be lower and the food/pastry especially-could be fresher.

Katherine S.

Yelp
Great little gem in the Southwedge. Excellent coffees, side and pastries. Very comfortable atmosphere. Good place for a group or single diner. Servers are cheerful and offer serve with a smile. Highly recommend this wonderful coffee shop:)

Harold M.

Yelp
Good coffee...industrial/warehouse environs with art by local artists giving pops of color, there is stage with a piano, odds and ends of old TV's...giving it a vibe. Spacious with lots of eclectic seating and some sofas. Service was speedy. Enjoyed the seasonal smores latte (iced), with oatmilk, with sweet foam added, it was overflowing...all deliciousness!

Ada A.

Yelp
Lovely little coffee shop, has a piano, plenty of seating, couches. The food was stellar and so where the drinks. No complaints here.

Megan C.

Yelp
I've lived here my whole life and never stepped foot into Boulder until this weekend! A travesty. What an amazing and cozy spot. Lunch, snacks, drinks, coffees, cocktails, wine, smoothies...any cafe item you can dream up Boulder probably has. I was enjoying a mango pinot grigio smoothie as I read my book and took in the Clinton Ave views. Some of the charm is in the worn out furniture and more laid back vibe of this shop. Staff was all super helpful and the menu options were vast. They offer tons of events during the normal times like local bands, open mics, poetry nights, and much much more. I am looking forward to continuing to frequent this great shop to get some work done and enjoy a peaceful moment.

Andrea G.

Yelp
I had a cold brew. It was perfect, nothing special, but that's because, well, I ordered a plain cold brew. I ordered the Mt. Hope Mex Sandwich on ciabatta which was good, albeit small for the cost. I was definitely still hungry. But the egg on the sandwich was perfectly soft. The lighting is dim, but it fits the vibe. Love the local art and parking was awesome!

Kayla B.

Yelp
Cozy atmosphere, fun menu, live music and events going on. Delicious chai latte and they gave our dog a pup cup!

Damian H.

Yelp
$7.00 for a large cappuccino, might as well save some money and go to Starbucks. The menu states $6 but I was charged $7.56 with tax. $10 coffee will be here soon

Victoria B.

Yelp
Came by for a couple days while I was in town. Amazing turmeric latte! I have an assistance animal and they gave her puppucinos every time she came in! The couches were so comfy that she slept the whole time there. Great environment, awesome drinks/food, comfortable seating, and pleasant staff.

Kathryn T.

Yelp
The people at cafe was amazing!! They were super friendly and let us know that we are allowed to bring dogs as long as dogs are well-behaved dogs. When I asked them to give me some water with a bowl for my dog to drink. They gave him fresh water. The place is a wonderful place to hang out, but they put "cross" on sofas as I understand that they are avoiding any chance of having us getting covid-19 since it's a bit harder to clean them compare to hardwood tables & chairs. The food was perfect and wasn't that greasy at all! The drinks are absolutely delicious and I can see why people love to go there!!! I would recommend anyone who are coffee or tea lovers to go to this place for a drink!

Danielle S.

Yelp
I used to come to Boulder all the time when I lived closer to it, but haven't been in a really long time. It's the same great place! I stopped in today for a breakfast sandwich (egg and cheese on a croissant) and a latte (sugar free caramel) as a treat for a tired Monday. The sandwich and coffee were good, the service friendly, and the best thing of all - there's a parking lot. It can get busy and tough to get out of said parking lot if there's a lot of traffic on Alexander Street, but there are so many city places without good parking that I am super grateful for this one!

Jessie T.

Yelp
This is my go-to coffeeshop as a newcomer to ROC! Reasonably priced with many beverage and sandwich options. It's a nice vibe to work and has some fun events in the evenings.

Olivia B.

Yelp
Love this place! I have come here a couple of times to study now. They have coffee, espresso drinks, tea, food, and even some alcoholic drinks! They also carry pastries from cheesy eddies. You order at the counter. If you get food, they give you a number sign you take with you to your seat. There is a variety of kinds of seating throughout the shop and there is outdoor seating. I think their drinks and food are great! I've tried a couple of the breakfast sandwiches and have enjoyed both of the ones I got. Their iced mochas are great and the medium is nicely sized. This is one of my regular study spots and have had a good experience every time.

K. E.

Yelp
Great service. I often buy coffee or beans without disappointment. The atmosphere is stylish yet relaxing.

Joe D.

Yelp
This is a plea to ownership to sell Boulder and have someone more capable run this longtime establishment. For the second time this summer, the cafe was closed on a weekday for no apparent reason, without any notice on the door. But more importantly, the employees are routinely understaffed during busy hours, and are not in a position to provide good service. It's not uncommon to only have one person (maybe two) trying to make sandwiches, drinks, and run the register. No other shop in town tries run a cafe with so few employees, and it's obvious they are willing to sacrifice service for profit. This is no slight to the people that work there everyday. However, I wouldn't be coming anymore if it weren't so darn convenient.

Sid t.

Yelp
A great place to grab a drink and bite to eat downtown. The food's always great, the coffee and cocktails are unique, and the service has been friendly in my experience. My only real grievence is that parking is limited, and the lot they have is usually in rough shape and difficult to traverse due to the fact that it's riddled with potholes. Honestly, though, if you're a native, you're probably used to it as this is not an issue exclusive to this business. All in all, would definitely reccommend.

Brianna F.

Yelp
I am in love with this place. The vibes are good the coffee is great and so is their food. They get a lot of their menu items from local places. They serve a mean breakfast sandwich. The coffee is fresh! My boyfriend and I love to come here and just hangout for a bit and sip our coffee slowly. Been back a few times already!

Dawn M.

Yelp
Yum. Hipster place with great coffee drinks and selection of cafe items. Local fruits and snacks as well as baked goods. If you have never been, swing in. Live music is on hold during COVID and seating is limited- but things will return to normal, eventually.

Trevor M.

Yelp
If you're looking for a chill spot to grab coffee, beer, and all drinks in between and just lounge then Boulder is the spot. Also, the sandwiches are seriously underrated. I couldn't recommend the Swillberger sandwich highly enough: multigrain bread, bacon, turkey, cheddar cheese, sub the Cajun mayo on, and kettle chips. Very solid.

Jolie C.

Yelp
Awesome spot. Very spacious, cool vibes (darkly decorated - very coffee bar meets jazz lounge?), and quick service. I only had time to quickly grab a cup of coffee on a lunch break, but I'll definitely be returning. The coffee was delicious as well. Looking forward to trying one of their many specialty drinks. Also looks like they have some entertainment/music on some evenings!

Julie K.

Yelp
Beautiful covered outdoor patio. Hibiscus peach tea was excellent. Wifi was a occasionally spotty which is important only because it is a coffee shop billed as a place to hang out and use wifi.

Brennen C.

Yelp
The coffee is excellent, the staff are amazing, and the atmosphere is perfect. Boulder is my go-to coffee shop in Rochester when I want a good coffee and place to work during the day. There are plenty of tables/ outlets inside and there is a great outdoor patio for the warmer months. Boulder is also a great date spot! Whether the vibe is coffee or cocktails, they've got you date covered. While the cocktail selection isn't as good as a full bar, I highly recommend the coffee cocktails for a boozy treat.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Stopped here for a cup of coffee while in the ROC. This place definitely has a hipster vibe to it but we like it. We got 2 coffees and hey were delicious. LOVED that they had my favorite Finger Lakes Coffee Roaster's Jamaican Me Crazy! It was $6 for 2 large coffees. Employees were friendly. Wish we could have sat and enjoyed it but we had to hit the road.

Karen S.

Yelp
This is such a cute place! Went there to pick up a cup of coffee before an appointment but wish I could have stayed. It's very big, yet has a cozy, homey feeling. I thought this would be a great place to get work done or meet with other people. As someone who loves lattes and tries to do low-cal, they have a large, fun variety of sugar-free syrups. I'm glad I finally stopped in!

Adham H.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops in town! Delicious sandwiches and decent verity of drinks!!

Katelyn S.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop in Rochester by far! They have so many enticing flavor syrup options, and yummy loose leaf teas as well (I've been loving the blueberry acai green tea lately). If you're hungry, they've got yummy sandwiches, soups, and snacks as well. I'm obsessed with the Cobbs Hill Cajun sandwich, and when they have their potato soup, it's delicious. The space is plenty big enough so that you can typically find a seat by an outlet if you need one, or get a cozy spot on one of their couches if you prefer. They have self-serve ice water by the coffee counter, which I appreciate so much. There's typically ample parking as well. I noticed that another reviewer mentioned a recent wifi issue, but I've been to Boulder a solid number of times recently and haven't experienced any issues with connectivity! This is my favorite spot to cozy up and get some work done or catch up with a friend--highly recommend it! OH, almost forgot! They also have a loyalty punch card so you can earn a free drink! Amazing!

Elaine K.

Yelp
I needed a place with WiFi to get some work done, and found this delightful coffee shop. As of November 5 2020, they do allow indoor dining/working. Tables are spaced out and some seating areas are blocked off for Covid safety. They have so many options for flavored syrups-- I chose lavender. The barista was very kind and topped off my coffee for me. WiFi is free and reasonably reliable, and there are many power outlets. Everything you need to be productive for a while.

Livia H.

Yelp
I really enjoy the space at Boulder and the outside area in the summer. I also enjoy their food a lot and the coffee is good as well. Unfortunately I had to stop coming here because the wifi never ever works and the staff doesn't seem to have much of an answer. The past few times it wasn't even that there was general a connectivity issue it was the password they had listed did not work. I tried typing this in multiple times and even had the barista type it in for me when she brought my food over after so many failed attempts; even she could not get it to work. She tried a few more times, certain she had the right password and eventually gave up apologetically. I went inside and asked the other staff to confirm it was the password, they did and when I explained it wasn't working the one guy's response was "Oh yeah, we've had issues with that sometimes it just doesn't work." This was pretty frustrating considering I had just spent money here on food and a coffee so I could sit and do work. I would've gone somewhere else had I been previously made aware the WiFi was simply not a guarantee. I hope they get or have gotten this under control since because I would really like to go back to work here from time to time. WiFi seems pretty essential for a coffee shop.

Alayne M.

Yelp
Got a coffee and croissant. Baked goods here in general look like they are on their last legs- whatever. Got the croissant, was asked if I wanted it toasted and said no. Go to eat the croissant and it's stale and has that been in plastic wrap for at least a week taste. Take it back to the counter, express my concerns with the product, ask to exchange it for something else. Counter person acknowledges it's stale and adds, "I offered to toast it." Because toasting always improves a stale pastry. Tells me no and offers me another stale croissant. This place is okay for coffee but skim the food. And the snarky counter staff.

Janey V.

Yelp
Love the beverages (hot and cold, boozy and not), nosh options, and atmosphere of Boulder. Decked out with local art for sale and its transition to a comedy/open mic stage in the evenings gives in an indescribable sense of community. I recently moved out of South Wedge and I miss Boulder the most about my neighborhood.

Briar L.

Yelp
The vibe of this place is really neat. I've been here twice now and the first time there was a live show in addition to local artisans selling their work. This visit I ordered a turmeric latte and a London fog. The London fog was uninspiring l, but the turmeric latte was to die for. The second time there was a comedy show that didn't seem too bad. I gave the London fog another try as a last minute decision. Bad choice. It tasted like hot, watered down milk. Could barely taste the Earl Grey. Moral of the story, go for coffee and stay for the vibe if it's your thing. Otherwise only pop in to caffeinate.

Paul C.

Yelp
I like coffee shops. I LOVE a good coffee shop. Guess what? I LOVE THE BOULDER COFFEE SHOP! From it's incredibly diverse menu to it's eclectic decor, this is a fantastic place. There are different paintings throughout the place and lots of comfortable places to sit and chat, work at your computer or just kick back and enjoy the scenery. My frozen French Vanilla Chai was perfect. There is a wide variety of breakfast and lunch offerings to choose from. This was my first visit to the Boulder Cafe, but certainly not my last. Service is fast and friendly. You really owe it to yourself to stop by and check this place out. It's a hard combination to beat, so come and enjoy.

Zain T.

Yelp
I do all my coffee reviews as pros and cons, with bias toward study space because I'm a medical student. Pros: great coffee and espresso selection, friendly staff, spacious, tons of natural light, easy free parking Cons: seats not very comfortable, difficulty accessing power outlets, limited food selection

Eric R.

Yelp
Very cool, eclectic atmosphere to this place. I love coffee shops, especially unique ones. Can't stand Starbucks and chains. If you are in Rochester then stop in. Good selection of coffees and plenty of space to hang out.

Connie S.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try Boulder since moving to Rochester nearly 3 years ago. Today, seemed like the perfect day. The cafe is large with ample seating, albeit the parking lot is small and there does not seem to be much street parking near by. Any who, I ordered a soy latte. The price was 4$ for a decent sized beverage. The latte was good but not overwhelming memorable. I think I would have enjoyed the drink more if I ordered an extra shot of espresso. I think the best part of my experience at Boulder was the counter seating facing the street; perfect set up for a self-proclaimed people watcher. I will return to try the fare.

Jessica B.

Yelp
Home of my two favorite chai lattes. I either get the spiced chai with blackberry flavor and cinnamon on top or the vanilla chai with marshmallow flavor and chocolate drizzle. A perfect spot to meet up with friends, catch up with your mom or work on the plot for your comic. Always great for when you're in need of some art. Also the location of a very expressive bathroom sink.

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
I'm very into this coffee shop. Have been multiple times and I'm pleased every time. My favorite part is that it's so spacious inside- you can always find a table to settle in and get work done. And they have a nice menu of options with food as well. Their sandwiches are nice and coffee is good. Last time I only got tea (boring, I know) but the experience of being there is awesome. I've never been to their open mic night but that's seems super cool and I want to go sometime! There's a nice aura here and I'm sure the crowds are fun!

David C.

Yelp
Not bad. Good prices but limited menu for food. A lot of drinks available. A little shady neighborhood but a decent place.

Jean K.

Yelp
I love hot cider on a cool fall morning so I stopped in at Boulder and used a bit of my guilt-laden, non-interest-bearing savings account which consists of several unused Groupons (this one expired almost 3 years ago). With my three Groupon bucks and seven more in cash, I scored two hot, sweet, and delicious apple cider drinks and a sammy. Now, when I see a menu item named Susan B, I'm already curious. I wonder if this sammy is named for the famous female suffragist, Susan B Anthony, who was arrested for voting in Rochester in the late 1800s and subsequently refused to pay the fine. Methinks a sammy of this name should be savory and spicy...maybe something with a little kick, in honor of this wonderful woman who helped to change the course of history. I opted for the Susan B on a pumpernickel bagel. It included slices of deli meat turkey, dried cranberries, slivered almonds, mixed greens, and cream cheese. It was a little more sweet than savory. This tasty little sammy has inspired me to make a variation sans cream cheese, with a little balsamic instead and maybe a more savory cheese like gruyere or even a sharp cheddar. I LOVED the mixed greens and dried cranberries combined with the turkey and overall, it is a nice tribute to a strong, thoughtful woman with a powerful interest in human rights and who, incidentally, made Rochester her home. Comfortable, relaxing, cozy environment. Beautifully mismatched seating. Great location and free parking although the parking can be tricky at times. Overall, it's close to 4 stars which is enough for me to make my way back here the next time I'm in the area.

Luke J.

Yelp
I like Boulder coffee. coming on here to say that one thing that could be improved is the music selection. I come here to do work because it's close to me. and I keep having to leave because the music is too obnoxious. it's often like music from movies or novelty disco. i love ABBA but not at 2 pm on a weekday. familiar, upbeat, repetitive and impossible to ignore! please change this.

Jamie L.

Yelp
They have a quirky and retro vibe going on, which makes it a great place to get work done, meet a friend for coffee, or hang out during their music or open mic nights. Plenty of seating, including an outdoor patio. Parking can get packed at times. They have food and beverages, both alcoholic and caffeinated. My usual is the tea - loose leaf or chai. Overall, nice addition to the Clinton/Alexander area.

Arvid Y.

Yelp
A regular spot for me whenever I need to do some reading or studying. Plenty of outlets and window seating with natural light. Good coffee and decent food. Free wifi if you're a paying customer, you just have to ask the cashier. The passwords are often a little funky. Not a perfect place for people who can't stand background music, since there is often eclectic music playing in the background at a moderate volume. Also, it's not always "easy-listening" music either. Another thing is that the lighting is poor, so if you're trying to get any work done at night when there's no natural light, it may be difficult. It's still a much cozier environment than the local Starbucks, with cheaper drinks as well. I'll have to check out their open mic night sometime. Oh yeah, they also serve beer. I guess you could theoretically hit the books and then hit the booze afterwards without changing venues.

Katherine W.

Yelp
If you come here and don't get the Jefferson airplane you're making a huge mistake. By far the best breakfast sandwich in all of Rochester. The outside seating is great when the weather warms up! I've been here and there has been live music on Friday nights! Perfect place to meet up with friends and get work done. Only downside is that they can be understaffed especially in the morning

Daniel V.

Yelp
I have gotten food and coffee here numerous times. The inside of the building has a very unique and open vibe. And easy way to describe it is "artsy". The staff are very friendly and I have never had a bad experience there. The coffee, strawberry banana smoothies, pastries, and sandwiches are all good. The parking lot can have semi-limited parking during peak hours. Overall, I would recommend giving the place a try.

Jen R.

Yelp
Oddly enough living here almost four years I FINALLY stopped in with an old friend. I've driven past and alas never stopped in.. that was so wrong and will change. We got a few drinks my friend got a cafe mocha and I got the chai latte. Both very tasty, they have all sorts of drinks, alcoholic beverages and food. This place is larger than I thought. Lots of tables, chairs, sofas a second room that's large and if you drive past this place at night you can see someone performing which is very cool. Lots of local art on the walls for sale, paintings and photographs. If you want to come into study or do work you have plenty of space and places to plug in.. lots of natural light. I can see this place getting loud with an open mic night or if music is playing loudly over the speakers but no music when we came in. The staff is pleasant and kind a plus. To be frank there is a lot to see.. I'd come back to do some work for meet up with friends. They share an outside patio with Napa Wood Fire next door. As always I'll tell you the parking situation they have it in the back or street parking. Cool vibes and a coo spot.. I'll be back..

Alicia L.

Yelp
I don't know guys. My most recent experiences at Boulder haven't been the best. I went in to get my usual drink. And I swear the espresso tasted like burnt cleaner. Instead of complaining I just kindly asked for another espresso shot, thinking this could mask the taste. The barista added another shot, free of charge, but it was worse. All I tasted was cleaner. There wasn't anywhere to sit and I found myself just looking for an excuse to leave. So I did. And I threw out my drink when I left. I instead went to another local coffee shop, and had a way better experience. Not sure what happened at Boulder, I'll try it again in a few months.

Sara L.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee spots in Rochester! Nice ambiance, delicious drinks, good food, and nice staff.
