Bouldering Project - St Paul

Absolutely love this new Bouldering Project location! I think the people putting this all together did a fantastic job. Cool to see them implement a big sauna with infrared heating for people of all genders. They also have nice private showers, new custom climbing holds, a crack climbing wall, a climate controlled yoga room, 2 floors so you can get a Birds Eye view of the place, an elevator, lots of lockers and cubbies, a vending machine and most importantly tons of really fun boulders. Highly recommend coming!! ✅

Overall a great gym. Locker room & sauna leave a bit to be desired but the changing rooms are a nice addition. The individual bathrooms are OKAY... the main issue being that toilets don't get flushed which is pretty gross and unsightly. I wish they had installed these toilets with those auto flush systems. The workout area is amazing. It would be ideal if they could add a bench or some seating besides the high top chairs. There is no wear to sit if you need to change your shoes. A minor detail that would make a big difference up there! Staff here so far are very pleasant, attentive, and helpful. Unlike Minneapolis where they're lazy and arrogant, this staff works hard and takes great care of the space. I hope that never changes. Ample parking and easy access to front entry. Also very queer friendly if you're gay you will fit in for sure don't even worry. I made soul many friends at queer beta like I can't even believe how many ppl I've met. Have a good day everyone!! Wonderfull gym all around! Great customer service, huge gym with never ending problems. They even added a new color (teal/light blue) for V11+. You will not find this grade at Minneapolis Bouldering project. The cave section at St Paul is also a lot more expansive. The setting at St Paul does seem a tad bit harder compared to Minneapolis Bouldering project. Maybe a half grade harder. I climbed there for many years before joining St Paul. This sentiment was confirmed by staff too, so something to keep in mind. Lots of overhang present at St Paul. Great weight room as well! The only "con" I would bring up would be the infrared saunas. I'm not the biggest fan of them and I prefer regular saunas as I feel like they get much hotter. It's mostly personal preference and doesn't take anything away from my overall experience at the gym. Parking is pretty easy and ample as well. Lots of spots to park in, and worse case, you can park on Water Street. I tend to come at the busiest times of the day and I have yet to have the need to park on the street.

My daughter wanted to try the new location for her 10th bday. The staff was super helpful as usual--no qualms there! The kids had fun, but they were really bored with the youth room after about 5 minutes..which is not how it is at the Mpls location. It just felt like the youth room in St Paul could have been so much cooler and more interesting...it's very short and small, no jungle gym-type features or overhangs for kids to try, no features you climb on top of (something kids of all ages LOVE to do). No slide. So we went to the main area and that was also a bit disappointing for amateurs. It felt like there were so few areas they could actually attempt as there are so many overhangs (not super safe for kids to try in the adult area-and too challenging for their age). Also there were no features in the main area you can climb on top of, something my whole family loves to do because it motivates you to get to the very top of the route even more! We were going to become members because we live in St Paul but after visiting we were so bummed we won't be doing that. Another family we don't know was there and they just randomly said to us "doesn't this one suck compared to the Mpls one?" The dad said it feels like everything in the youth room is too simple/small and everything in the main room is too advanced. Maybe you guys weren't targeting families or kids under 14 (or beginner adults) but even as an adult I would've loved a few more non-graded routes in the main area and some of the features you can get to the top of. I think the sauna is awesome and the space itself is really beautiful, just not a good location for families or beginners! Sorry no pic of the youth room cuz we weren't in there for long.

Great addition to the Twin Cities for bouldering. Very similar to Minneapolis Bouldering Project, but with some differences. Shared great lockers means changing in private rooms. Tops must be with in sauna, so being an extra shirt. Sauna is different than the one at MBP, and takes a while longer to feel hot. The weight room is great and has bikes with clips to attach to. The route were all very fun and change regularly. The cave is amazing and a must visit. Pass and membership is shared with MBP, so can visit both without extra work. Lots of lockers and cubbies, so no worries about that. Decent amount of parking. Not far from downtown, just a walk away from public transit and the Green Line. Free Wi-Fi.

We are incredibly lucky to have Bouldering Project in our neighborhood because BP is more than just a gym. It's a third space that brings people and communities together. This is something our community desperately needed. As a climbing gym first, the facilities are state of the art: a brand new super-wide Kilter Board, Tension Board 2, hang boards of many varieties, a crack wall, and campus boards. The terrain is thoughtfully laid out to maximize the space while fostering communal areas to hang out when you're off the wall. The setting is interesting and engaging, and the climbing space is HUGE. I'm not sure people realize that we now have three of the top ten largest bouldering gyms in the Twin Cities! The fitness area is equally impressive with tons of weights and equipment, a dedicated training room, and a giant hot yoga studio. The fact that a climbing gym offers all these additional amenities is remarkable. I understand the sauna has received mixed reviews, but again, the fact that a climbing gym even offers a sauna is unique. Personally, I love it. I appreciate that it's coed so all my friends can hang out and sauna together, which fosters community. It's an infrared sauna that runs cooler than traditional saunas, and chests must be covered, a rule designed to be inclusive. I still get a good sweat going; it just takes a bit longer. There aren't many sauna options in Saint Paul, so I'm grateful to have one! Lastly, the staff. The staff is the backbone of BP and truly makes the experience. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming, always happy to answer questions and hear feedback. I've started making genuine connections and friendships with staff members who are clearly excited about this new gym and doing everything they can to make the space inclusive and fun. Special shoutout to Brent, John, Sam, Alex, and many others whose names I didn't catch. And Michael, the GM, deserves recognition for being so welcoming, down to earth, and open to feedback. A solid leader for this community. I'm so stoked to have this gym and can't wait to see how it continues to evolve! I cannot fathom how a space like this can get anything less than 5 stars! Nice work to everyone involved who made it happen and is continuing to make it happen!

Great spot and a fantastic addition to the Twin Cities climbing scene! As someone who visits Minnesota from out of state often, I’ve always enjoyed climbing at the original Bouldering Project but felt the original location could be crowded at times. This location solves that issue and also offers a very diverse set of climbs for both the slab or overhang loved. If you’re a slab or overhang climber, there are equally great problems for each, and I found the setting to be well thought out and very solid overall. The gym is super clean with a great weights and training area. The private showers and changing rooms are an added plus as well.

This is the first gym I’ve ever bought a membership to! I bought the monthly-recurring membership during a Holiday Promo period. What made me decide to commit was not only how much fun I have climbing here (Im a beginner) but all the additional amenities to support my climbing journey: there is an upstairs workout/weights/lift area, fitness studio, and infrared sauna, and downstairs hot yoga room sessions. I tried my first Hot Yoga class and it was AWESOME! They have tons more activities but these are the main areas I use. This might sound ridiculous but one of the main motivators that made we want to commit to a membership was the showers that are stocked with body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. To me, this feels like a luxury haha! I LOVE the people-friendly staff here; they always say “welcome in” when entering and “have a good night” when I leave for the evening. They are always so helpful, non-pretentious, and answer my questions when I have them😁 I recently brought my boyfriend here on a free guest pass (two free guest passes/month come with the membership) and he is going to join a membership soon as well. Hoping they start having shared/family memberships soon or in the future, which would be nice and a potential money saver 🙂
