Boulevard Leopold Rooms and Suites Review | Hotels Above Par

"Tucked in Antwerp’s quiet Jewish Quarters, this impeccably preserved 1890 townhouse—originally built by diamond trader Joseph Zimmer and sensitively renovated after a 2005 sale—operates as an intimate five-room bed & breakfast that even counts Dua Lipa among its guests. The owner, Martin, has personally curated a striking interior full of lamps, taxidermy, old books and antique furniture, and he also prepares a homemade breakfast served in a sun-drenched Orangerie filled with plants. Original architectural details remain throughout—large French windows, exaggerated ceilings, original hardwood floors, marble fireplaces and a master suite with 1912 bathroom tiles and a gas fireplace—creating a historic-yet-chic, decor-forward vibe. With no gym, spa, or full-service restaurant, the property favors quality over quantity: personalized, uncomplicated service, easy solo-run booking and check-in, and tailored local recommendations; rates start around €130/night and the city is easily reached (about two hours by train from Paris) with trams making local exploration simple."

This is a very special place indeed. We've just thoroughly enjoyed 3 nights here as a family, taking the splendid Master Suite and Rooftop Suite. Martin is a truly remarkable host, so friendly and welcoming. The location is excellent too. It's worth taking the breakfast to start the day so beautifully. Thank you so much Martin - we started 2024 in style with you.

We stayed two nights at Boulevard Leopold and just had a great time. Martin the host is so helpful, and the house so beautiful, I'd recommend it to everyone! Our room was on the garden side of the house so really quiet. Big room, lovely comfy bed, coffee maker, international charger and everything you could need. The house itself is really quirky - Martin has obviously put a huge effort into the style and aesthetic of the house. Really nice continental breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice and freshly ground coffee. Martin is on hand to help out with anything, whether it be booking taxis, recommending restaurants or just answering any questions. Genuinely couldn't fault it, and if we have the pleasure of going to Antwerp again we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The building is stunningly beautiful and full of fascinating features, the rooms are huge and gorgeously furnished, the breakfast is lovely. Most of all the welcome from the host was what you would expect from a friend and the whole atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable throughout. ||||It’s a little distance from the centre of town but only ten minutes by tram and some of the best restaurants in Antwerp are nearby.

A beautiful hotel full of character and charm. Lovely breakfast, extremely comfy bed. We stayed in room 2, which is so light and airy - we plan to come back and try all the other rooms too! Martin was the most fantastic host, friendly and hospitable, with helpful tips for things to do in Antwerp. We really liked the location too - a little outside the old centre (but still easily within walking distance). This encouraged us to explore the city more than we might otherwise have done and we came across some great places this way - like Dageraadplaats with its restaurants, cafes and flea market, for example, and PAKT. Thanks for a great stay and until next time, Martin!

Booked for 4 nights at fairly short notice - great decision. Martin has only half a dozen rooms but has put his heart and soul into this b & b. Tasteful sympathetic decoration with mod cons in the rooms (our garden room was spacious and quiet). Excellent wifi is free. A key code for the door means you can come and go as you will. Martin opens the spectacular ground floor rooms (his own apartment) for breakfast where he serves fresh juices, coffee, cereals, yoghurt, toast, croissant and cheese/ham with eggs any way as options. Btw the host accepts Revolut or Transferwise as well as cash to settle the bill. ||||No formality, just great service and he is also super helpful with tips on Antwerp life and where to go/eat and enjoy the city. Martin told us about the zurenborg district with its amazing art nouveaux houses - which is approx 10 mins walk away. ||The house is 2 stops from central station/diamant metro and regular trams run from 100 m away. The tram system is really easy to navigate. The ten ticket lignecarte at 16 euros is available everywhere (corner shops and supermarkets as well as stations). However, if you are only in town a short time a 24 hour travel pass (available at the ticket machines in the central stations) is very good value at 7.5 euros. ||Our top tip - the Plantin Moretus museum, and of course Rubens house. ||Thank you Martin for a superb stay.

What a wonderful place to stay in the lovely city of Antwerp. Boulevard Leopold is full of character and charm. Martin, the owner is not only friendly and very helpful, but has wonderful taste and the B&B is decorated in his unique style (so beautifully that it has featured in a design book).||Our room was huge and full of interesting and quirky features - really lovely. Breakfast is served in a dining area that opens on to the rear garden and is very good - coffee and tea, croissants etc.||The B&B is located in the Jewish quarter and is right on the tram route which makes getting about very easy. It is also a short walk to the Art Nouveau district. We couldn't have wished for a better place to stay - thanks Martin.

Glad we chose to stay here in Antwerp. Much better than staying in a traditional hotel. The house is very grand - big Ceilings and interestingly decorated. We stayed in the room with the bath, it's a spacious room, big comfortable bed, and room is warm with a nice fireplace in the room. The bathroom is clean, and nice to use, but bath is a bit awkward to use as a shower without getting everywhere wet, but guess it's intended to be just a bath really. Breakfast was really good - toast, cheese, eggs, coffee, juice, fruit, croissants. We only stayed one night - location is a bit far from the centre of town - but there is a tram stop just outside, otherwise you will need a taxi to get into town. Martin was very useful for local tips and sorting out parking which is very cheap on the street just outside.
