Kananaskis Mountain Lodge Review | Hotels Above Par

"For a true taste of cowboy culture, Boundary Ranch offers horseback rides such as the Ridge Ride that wind through the woods to panoramic mountain vistas; I bonded a bit with my horse, Walker, during the experience, making it a memorable outdoor adventure." - Britney Eschelman

Amazing experience! The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, which made the whole visit even more enjoyable. The views are absolutely breathtaking, and there are so many adventure options to choose from, perfect for anyone looking to explore and have fun outdoors. They mentioned that their museum is set to open this summer, and I’m really looking forward to checking that out. I also can't wait to come back in the winter for the sledding sounds like a blast! Overall, a fantastic place to visit year-round. Highly recommend!

Boundary Ranch is an amazing place to visit, especially if you love outdoor adventures and horse riding. We had a great experience with the horse riding – the horses were well-trained, calm, and perfect for both beginners and experienced riders. The staff were super friendly, helpful, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe throughout the ride. The scenery around the ranch is absolutely beautiful – riding through the trails surrounded by mountains and nature made the experience even more special. Everything was very well organized, from the instructions before the ride to the actual trail itself. It was a fun, peaceful, and memorable experience, and I would definitely recommend Boundary Ranch to anyone looking for a unique adventure in the Rockies. We will definitely be coming back again!

Adored our experience here. First time riding a horse and the staff were so kind. The lady at the front desk was so happy and helpful. Our guide was incredible, giving tidbits of knowledge throughout the 1.5hr ride. There was a steep muddy section that made a first timer like me nervous but the horses know just what to do and the guide was very reassuring. Would 100% recommend to everyone I know and we will most likely be back when we get another opportunity!

100% five star. I actually rode every week of September. I started with the Buffalo Loop (which I would recommend for beginners and kids) and then did the Vista Ridge Loop 3 times. Every time I went it was a different experience. I plan on doing some bigger rides in the spring as the season is over. But they do have dog sledding in the winter!!

The ladies working there were very friendly and welcoming. The steak dinner was good and the burger I had for lunch. The horse back ride had amazing views. I liked how the ladies cared about the horse n new all their names. Anyone in Alberta should make an effort and see this place out The cow girls from the UK was my favorite

I did the 2 hour trail ride and it was fantastic. The ranch is beautiful. The staff was great. The ride takes you through beautiful scenery. It makes you feel like your group is the only one out there in the mountains.

⸻ Lovely horses, wonderful staff! My 10 year old daughter and I felt completely safe and confident throughout the experience. Our guide, Diego, and the entire team were so kind and genuinely interested in making us feel welcome. Diego took so much time to chat with my daughter during the ride, which meant a lot to her and for her self estimate on horse riding. This wasn’t just an ordinary horseback ride—it was exactly the kind of meaningful experience I was hoping for when I planned this trip to Alberta. It was such a special way to share the love of horses of my daughter. Next time, we’ll definitely go for the longer ride. If I could give you 6 out of 5 stars, I absolutely would! Thanks Diego,,

I had such a wonderful experience at Boundary Ranch! The property is beautifully maintained, peaceful, and the horses are clearly very well cared for. The staff were welcoming, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about what they do, which made the entire visit enjoyable and stress-free. Whether you’re looking for a trail ride, lessons, or just a relaxing getaway surrounded by nature and horses, this ranch is the perfect place. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves animals and wants a memorable experience.

Yelp
Came here for a 2 hour trail ride with my family. It was one of my favorite activities while visiting Canada for the holiday. We were a party of 4 and went with another group of two. They assigned us to our horses and gave us instructions on how to direct our horses and hold the reigns. I'm a first time horse rider and was nervous, but once we started I got more comfortable and enjoyed it! The trail was a little muddy and goes up and down hills but it's amazing to see what these horses can do. The views were breathtaking and the weather was perfect. Chloe, our leader on the ride, was great. I appreciated that she made sure to have us stop for photos. I would definitely come back. Your butt might be sore afterwards :)

Yelp
Personal Ad #117 - Boundary Ranch, Kananaskis Country Are you looking for a quiet, serene place to spend your time? Do you love basking in Mother Nature's glory and taking advantage of the great outdoors? Would you like to get in touch with one of nature's most beautiful creatures? Are you a country and western kind of person, or looking to give it a try? If so, then Boundary Ranch is just right for you. Together we would embark on anything from a trail ride to a hoedown; the Rodeo to sleigh rides. There are plenty of activities and adventures to keep us entertained, and plenty of food too. We'll eat authentic western food (prepared fresh and fast) by a warm, cozy fire - which is nicely located within the dining area of the Ranch. There is even a chili cook-off to decide who the best in the west really is. Boundary Ranch is peacefully located deep in Kananaskis country so you can really experience what the great outdoors has to offer. We'll get a real feel for nature on one of the horseback rides the Ranch has to offer. There are plenty of horses to choose from, each with their own personalities. Gordon, for example, is a slow old horse who needs a little extra kick to get him going. Willie, on the other hand, is very obedient and plays follow the leader with whoever is in front of him. Our trail ride would be chaperoned by very nice, very knowledgeable guides, like Matt or Lindsay. If you're feeling adventurous, or would just like to experience a nice afternoon, then get together with Boundary Ranch so you can really experience how the west was fun!

Yelp
This was a wonderful adventure. The place is not hard to find at all and all the staff is wonderful. We did a 2 hour trail ride and the options are either 1 hour long trail rides or 2 hours long. My cousin recently graduated form High School and is from New Brunswick so we bought her a flight to Calgary for her graduation present and this was the perfect activity. A day in the mountains- she absolutely loved it. They assign you your horses based on your size (meaning height) and how timid, calm or fearful of horses you are. If you are scared they put you with a really calm and easy going horse. While on the trail ride I felt that 2 hours was a little long. However, when we returned I talked to some of the individuals who were on the 1 hour trail ride and they did not like it at all. They said it was just a flat walk in a circle. For the 2 hour trail ride we were able to go up hills and down hills at least. I love to ride horses and do it all the time, therefore I am a little more experienced. When we did the trail I was a little upset that all we did was walk. That was enough for some people but for me I wanted a little more excitement so that is the only reason they lost one star. They have a beautiful, clean and well taken care of property that even has a restaurant. I was hesitant of the restaurant. I thought it would be a money grab but the food is actually delicious such as their burgers, beans and salmon chowder soup but there iced tea was watery. Great experience though :)

Yelp
I've been here a million times and each time I come back, I continue to be impressed. The last time I was there was August 17th 2011 and it was the perfect horse back riding experience. I'll begin with their pricing. It is incredibly affordable compared to what it was a few years ago. An hour trail ride is only 39.95 and a half day is $100. 3.5 hours of horse back riding for 100 bucks?? I think so! I have ridden many times and went to a horse camp when I was little so I have a good amount of experience under my belt. They always ask how much experience you have and they give you a horse depending on that, My cousin who is only 11 had never ridden before so they gave her a gentle mare who gave her no problems what-so-ever. I however got a large horse named Sam and he was quite bucky which made it all the more fun for me. After riding numerous times it's always great but a little added interest is always fun! I will definitely be requesting him the next time I go. The trails are great and scenic going up into the mountains a bit depending on how long your trail ride is. You have a choice of an hour, two hours or half a day. And for all the those adventurers out there, they are overnight pack trips. I am going to give that a try next summer. Boundary ranch also offers white water rafting and other fun activities like that. In the winter there are slay rides which I plan on trying when i head out there are Christmas. Boundary Ranch is definitely the best out there when you are visiting Kananaskis!

Yelp
I stopped yesterday to check Boundary Ranch out yesterday in advance of our annual company picnic of over 100 employees. We were interested in the mountains this year; I was dispatched to scout the location. We sat at an outdoor table and were promptly ignored by everyone for over half an hour. After 10 minutes we asked the gentleman manning the grill if the numerable waitresses milling about were going to acknowledge us and he said he would tell them. The place didn't appear to be busy at 1 pm. Of the 10 or so outdoor tables, only a couple of them were occupied, and the two waitresses I saw tending to the tables ignored us completely for a full half hour. We subsequently left and had a nice lunch up the road at kananaskis village. Good job Boundary Ranch, you blew it big time. Last year we spent thousands of dollars for our picnic for the whole crew. We won't be returning. Ever. Avoid this place like the plague. They honestly don't care about service. Even the raggy looking dog milling around the table looking for scraps (health code violation?) was snotty...he ignored us completely too! DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE!

Yelp
We just finished a full day trip with our fantastic guide, Nick. The views and scenery were truly amazing and the horses were beautiful and a joy to ride. We were able to see some wild life as well and saw two deers and also some grouse birds. The mountains and forests were majestic and breath taking. I highly recommend this ranch to to everyone, regardless of your experience riding horses. The ranch is very easy to find and it is very clean and well kept.

Yelp
September 25. Limited menu . Not sure why their regular menu is not available. waitress was a personable young lady with Australian cowboy hat. She did tell me the special's and asked if I would like something to drink before I sat down which I liked that I didn't have to wait to order a coffee. chili was hot with cheese on top and very warm biscuit. Very tasty. Had to ask for a knife to spread the butter. Waitress brought over the bill without asking if I wanted desert. Ordered the Apple pie. Didn't ask if I would like the pie heated or with ice cream. Pie had confectionery sugar on it. Tasty. One Star off due to the lack of a regular menu.

Yelp
Came here for a full day 5 hour ride while visiting the area and had a wonderful time! The full day trail is more difficult in terrain than the other packages, but it keeps the ride interesting for more advanced horse riders. The views were stunning along the ride with multiple areas to look out over the mountains, ride down canyons, and visit a waterfall with lots of wildlife sightings on the way. It was fun to ride through some of the less groomed trails and get more of a backcountry experience. Our guide was fantastic and the horses were very sweet. We will definitely be returning!
