On the Grid : Bourke Street Bakery

"Drop in for a quick refuel in the form of daily pie, quiche and cake specials and whilst you're at it pick up a loaf of fresh baked sourdough to munch on later. This venue is part of a popular company who boast 10 stores across Sydney, a thriving catering arm and baking classes. They must be doing something right, right? Right. On top of all this, they run The Bread & Butter Project (a social enterprise bakery) and they have more than earned the right to be called a sustainable business." - The Laser Co

What a find!! We stopped in for a pie each on a cold day and absolutely loved our pies. We shared a pork & fennel sausage roll. Omg!! It was delicious! It was great there are tables outside to sit and eat. Perfect place to stop and recharge. We also buy our sourdough from the North Sydney store. Always great quality. You can’t go wrong the Bourke Street Bakery.

I come here often on my lunch break for a quick snack and coffee. Their coffee is always good and consistent. I usually get their sausage rolls and crosstie and they’re the best. Their croissants also never miss, flaky on the outside and soft on the inside. They also rotate their sandwich menu, which is nice. Their Pies used to be better I feel like, dunno what happened. Staff are always friendly and give you top service.

I recently visited Bourke Street Bakery in Marrickville and was absolutely delighted by my experience! Firstly, let's talk about the pastries - they are divine! Each bite is a burst of flavor and freshness. If you visit, you simply must try their special Ham and Cheese as well as Tomato and Cheese Crossties. You must try this! Moreover, I was genuinely impressed by the warm hospitality and excellent customer service provided by the staff. They were incredibly polite, kind, and attentive, making my visit all the more enjoyable. It's evident that they truly care about their customers' satisfaction. Overall, Bourke Street Bakery is a gem of a bakery with scrumptious pastries and top-notch service. I highly recommend paying them a visit!

It's no secret that Bourke Street Bakery offers an array of freshly baked goods that are simply irresistible. From flaky croissants to artisanal bread, each bite showcases their commitment to quality. I particularly enjoyed the Tomato & Cheese Crosstie—a delightful blend of a croissant and a toastie, filled with tomato and cheese. Delicious!

The service from the lady at the front was great. The food and coffee were a total let down. The bacon and egg roll was really unpleasant to eat, the roll was stale and the eggs were cooked in an egg ring and barely warmed through. The coffee was honestly awful, very burnt coffee taste and the milk tasted off.

Went here in the morning, when it was my turn and was telling the woman behind the counter what I wanted to order she cut me off in the middle of it because someone familiair to her entered the bakery. So far so good, until she decided she would service this person before me even. Very disrespectful, not hospitable at all, really unbelievable actually. I decided to simply walk out and take my business elsewhere. No excuse for this kind of service.

The pies and sausage rolls are reliably good. Can't go wrong with them. Same with the pain au chocolat. Great lamination of layers and a great balance of sweet and vaguely bitter chocolate inside. The chocolate ganache tart was on the crunchy and a bit brittle rather than delicate which I don't mind but it could be an off day, not sure. The ganache itself was lovely. Their sourdough can be on the denser or tougher side and I believe Double Roasters next door uses their bread too. I don't mind the sourdough but for some it's too hard on the teeth when toasted.
