On the Grid : Bourke Street Bakery

"A Surry Hills institution, Bourke Street Bakery has ventured north to serve their delicious treats all day long. The space itself is small and industrial-cool, with outdoor tables to enjoy the sun. The pork and fennel sausage roll is life-changing, but then so is pretty much everything else on the chalkboard. Pies, pastries, quiches and tasty sandwiches will all stare you down and tease you to branch out beyond your coffee order, which is also of a high standard. And if you want a fresh loaf of artisan-style bread, there’s plenty to choose from." - Born & Raised

Visited them on the afternoon of a Sunday when we were the only customers and about an hour remaining to their closing time. Coffee was good. The pastry was ok. Service was quick but a bit dismissal. No question if we want to have it in the shop or takeaway. Even when we sat at the table, the pastry was just handed in a bag and coffee in the paper cups.

Coffees were okay, breaky burger so so. I found the staff weren’t that friendly, like it was an inconvenience they had to serve you. We are just down the road, so it’s a shame! Plenty of much better coffee shops in the area!

Just had the most delicious ginger brûlée, so creamy and gingery!! Just superb. Wonderful, friendly service and lovely relaxing music. The earl grey tea was high quality too. 😌

Something positive first..the pies are nice. But sadly the customer service not as much. Considering we are in an inflation nightmare and there are endless bakeries and cafes to compete with around Sydney, I would assume each business would be excited and falling over themselves with politeness and friendliness for the business. One would assume the customer service would be excellent and always friendly?? Have sadly found most of the workers here snobby and unfriendly. Won’t come here again after going a few times and trying to give them more chances. Disappointing

Stopped here for a quick coffee and an almond croissant. The staff here are friendly and fast. There’s outdoor seating and indoor seating. Their menu looks delicious as well. Their pies looked so good in the window.

Great sausage rolls, pies, pastries, sandwiches and cakes. The flourless chocolate cake is a family favorite. The service is also exceptional. Recently I was unable to collect an ordered birthday cake before closing time and I was contacted and given the opportunity to pick it up after hours.
