Bourton-on-the-Water

This is a postcard-perfect village that feels like stepping into a storybook. Its low stone bridges arch gently over the River Windrush, creating a calm and romantic scene. The honey-colored cottages reflect beautifully in the water on sunny days. It’s an ideal place for slow walks and soaking in classic English countryside charm. The village is home to charming ice cream shops, perfect for a treat while exploring. Small gift shops sell local crafts, souvenirs, and handmade items. Traditional tea rooms and cozy pubs add warmth and comfort to the visit. Attractions like the Model Village give visitors plenty to enjoy at a relaxed pace. This can be busy, especially during peak tourist seasons. Visiting early or later in the day makes the experience more peaceful. The mix of scenery, shops, and attractions makes it truly memorable. Overall, it’s a delightful and picture-perfect destination well worth visiting.

Possibly the best place in England at Xmas!! There are Xmas lights everywhere, all topped off with the famous tree in the river. There are also some great shops and fantastic cafes and restaurants. The only downside to the place is that it is busy most of the time and parking can be difficult.

The village is really cute, it’s very small but it’s very nice for a day out, perfect for who has a dog, and family’s, couples, there are many restaurants aswell. We went in Christmas time so there were Christmas lights.

Burton-on- the-Water is considered the jewel of the Costwold,it was lovely to walk on the the stone bridges,the oldest one Mill Bridge build in 1654 and the newest one Coronation Bridge build in 1954.Wonderful place to visit hence it was so very busy with tourists

Bourton-on-the-Water The heart of the village is defined by the shallow River Windrush, which flows right through the center. It is spanned by five arched stone bridges built between 1654 and 1953. The Look: Honey-colored Cotswold stone buildings, manicured greens, and weeping willows dipping into the water. The Vibe: On a quiet morning, it feels like a storybook. On a sunny Saturday, it feels like a bustling festival. Pros Incredibly photogenic and walkable. Plenty of tea rooms, pubs, and ice cream shops. Great "base" for hiking the Heart of England Way. Cons Parking can be a nightmare and quite expensive. Extremely crowded during peak season/weekends. Can feel a bit "commercial" compared to quieter neighbors.

Beautiful small village, too much crowded though. Visited Model Village, was good. Parking place was nearly full so look for parking places beforehand. If you looking for same kinda experience and bit less crowded try Stow-on-the-Wold instead. Less crowded and can visit Doors of durin here.

Nice to stop and have a quick visit. Plenty of shops and places to eat. It would be prettier in the spring/summer.

Lovely little village, was very busy as expected and struggled to get parking but that’s expected on a sunny Saturday. A lot of the little gift shops are very pricey but some are much more reasonably priced if you have a little walk around first. Highly recommend the Kingsbridge Inn pub for food! Best priced in the area and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner today too! Loads of trails and walks along public footpaths in the area, the stream is very shallow and lots of kids (and adults!) were walking in the water, as well as dogs too, to cool down which was lovely. Lots of little foot bridges to cross along the river too which is handy

Bourton on the Water is a small, cute, and picturesque village that was a relatively easy walk from our Hotel in Lower Slaughter. Unfortunately, we arrived on a Saturday during a Bank Holiday weekend on a very nice warm and sunny day. The place was packed, which made appreciating this place's beauty somewhat challenging as we were dodging our fellow tourists and long lines of cars at selected crossings. A few tips: 1. Do try the ice cream, which is local and delicious. They also make a dog-friendly style. 2. We had a relatively quiet and relaxing lunch at the Dial Hotel, which we considered somewhat out of the way. 3. The Cotswold Pottery shop a few blocks off the river walk is worth a visit and a look. 3. The local foot paths off the main area provide a scenic and peaceful respite.

A charming little town in the Cotswolds. My family enjoyed walking around and had a lot of great pictures. Although the tour guide said the place gets a little crazy during the summer season. Definitely avoid that...

A lovely Cotswolds town with a small, shop-lined street and river to explore. Certainly worth a visit if you are in the area to take the time to visit the local businesses, enjoy the beauty, and unwind.
