This hotel is a gem. We wanted to be able to explore Amsterdam, but retreat to a quiet environment during the evening. Of course Amsterdam is known for its lively nightlife, but that wasn't what we were looking for. I was recommend Witte Dame by a Dutch friend. It certainly looked to fit the bill, semi rurally located, but 30 minutes to get into Amsterdam. When we arrived, we were welcomed by Else. She could not have been more friendly, and really helped the two kids in the group, who were outside the UK for the first time, to feel at home. All the staff were great, but Else was a particular highlight. The hotel itself is beautiful, and well appointed. The only minor issue in the review is that there were a couple of minor maintenance issues (dead bulbs etc, nothing serious). There is a railway nearby, it is occasionally audible, but it's not something that will disturb you. We ate in the restaurant our first night. They asked that we take the set menu, because we are a big group, which was a little odd (6 is not a big group). The food was phenomenal however, and the service excellence continued. I'd definitely stay here again, Abcoude is a lovely place, and the Witte Dame is a great hotel.
