My stay was horrible. Lets start for the “safe, secured inside parking they sell online; There was no space for cars there it was horrible. No TV remote, AC off and took more than 20 minutes to get a little cold. No hot water, towels were dirty, dusty room i broke on hives as soon as I got in the bed. Nose allergy too due to the dust. The staffs are friendly that was the only good thing there

I had a last minute stay in Santo Domingo. The staff was accommodating, the room was clean and comfortable, with a refrigerator. I arrived just as the kitchen closed, but they made me a much needed sandwich anyway. The area has a nice grocery store and good restaurants within walking distance.

Just came back from another amazing vacation in DR. This time we found an amazing place to stay right in the heart of the Colonial Zone. You are steps away from the main shopping and dining areas and Parque Colon. There is a supermarket literally steps away! Boutique Hotel Palacio has an amazing staff and made our vacation relaxing and memorable!

A hotel that is a traditional colonial house in a fantastic location in the city. It should be a jewel of the city but the rooms are tired. Towels, sheets, tablecloths… everywhere you look is absolutely filthy. Nothing is clean. Breakfast is not bad. I saw some reviews about amazing service but I have no idea who that was. The men at the front desk are completely lazy and were not able to read their own city map. There are better places to stay. It needs a new manager as it could be amazing.

Believe the 3 and below. I'm giving a 2 just because of the fantastic staff. This place is rough. It's in serious need of updates and repairs. It's filthy, in the way of walls, cabinets, and furniture. The linens appeared to be clean. Our mattress was probably 20 years old and nearly as hard as the floor. The pillows need to be replaced and more blankets and towels provided. Both elevators were broken, the whole reason we picked this place was for the elevator to the pool, since my legs are still recovering from surgery. The staff was lovely. The breakfast was good, except the coffee should have been much better for being in the DR. I'm seriously questioning those that have left 5 stars, they must really stay in horrendous motels. This would be a fantastic place once major renovations and updates happen. Location is excellent.

Visiting Santo Domingo for the first time. Absolutely stay in the Colonial District for its historical charm. The hotel is a great, affordable choice and in a convenient location. Lovely staff. A stunning building.Within walking distance from restaurants and historical sites. Wonderful stay.

Over the last three months, I spent three weekends in Santo Domingo, a short flight or 12 hour ferry ride from San Juan, Puerto Rico, my home base. Stayed at a different hotel each stay (each no more than $100 per night), every hotel a 2 to 5 minute walk to El Conde (a pedestrian street and center of the colonial zone, very close to a huge variety of restaurant, nightlife and cultural options). The room had a bit of a moldy smell, but the weekend I was there, Santo Domingo was flooded by rain storm after rain storm - so maybe not anything you would notice under normal weather conditions. The building is not as "newly renovated" as the other hotels I stayed in, but when it comes to an ambiance and architecture that is a perfect fit for a stay in the colonial sector, this is the place to be. The restaurant onsite is a bit of a joke - a menu where a $12 tuna sandwich was the highlight (surprise, surprise, I never saw a customer or employee in the restaurant area other than for the limited breakfast included in some room price options), the glass of wine I ordered in the small lobby bar came from a bottle probably opened 3 months earlier, but who cares, there are dozens of bars and restaurants within spitting distance. The room itself (I opted for the cheapest room available) was generous in size, accessible by elevator or steps, and had all the basics (safe, nice bathroom, decent bed, and cable TV). The Queen of England would probably pick a more sterile and modern option, but if you are an Indiana Jones type of person, this may become your favorite place to stay in the colonial zone. And if you are single, and you meet someone you may want to invite to your room, the hotel offers you the option to do so. For a $25 fee. Most other hotels do not permit anyone other than registered guests in the rooms. Guests leave their ID with the reception, so its not a policy that impacts your or the other guests' safety. In conclusion, a perfect location, a historic building and an ambiance that perfectly matches the surroundings. BTW, Uber is the absolute best choice for a return trip to the airport from any hotel in Santo Domingo - if you prefer a taxi, the hotel can arrange that as another safe but slightly pricier option as well. (The hotel offers some higher priced rooms/suites as well, some with very large balcony terraces - a somewhat unique option in this area for those who really needs a lot of space.)
