What made this hotel stand out for us was the friendly staff, the courtyard for a drink in the evening or just to rest in before bed, the free infused water and small cakes, the very comfortable bed and the quietness of the room. |I don't know if room 43 was large or small for the category we booked but it was adequate and well presented. It is unusual for us to sleep well in hotels due to noise (people or traffic), poor air conditioning systems or uncomfortable beds. This room was excellent in all these aspects 10/10. |We have been to Bruges 4 times over the last 17 years and this is the 3rd hotel we have stayed in. When researching where to book we gathered from past reviews and photos that all the rooms are different in some way - common in older properties. Some have walk-in showers, some have baths with shower over, some have no bathroom doors, a few have balconies, some are in the attic space so have skylight windows (Velux). |We booked late and I think we got the last Deluxe Room for our dates so we didn't ask for anything in particular except for a large and light room. We got a room in the attic space with two large Velux windows so there wasn't a view as such unless you stood up and then we could see the Belfry. We also had a bath which was not my preference but I did have my first bath for years because of that! |Of the 3 hotels we have visited in Bruges this was by far our favourite. Yes I would have preferred a walk-in shower and normal windows but it didn't detract from the overall experience.|A last observation is that the bar prices were acceptable, unlike some hotels that charge way more than bars just down the road. |In summary this is a solid choice if you want a central, comfortable hotel with outside space that has been carefully and tastefully renovated. with a modern twist.
