Boutique Hotel Sablon (Bruges, Flanders) 5 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Bruges, if you’ll excuse the left-field analogy, is something like the Kyoto of Belgium — it’s where you go to experience the meticulously preserved past in all its glory. You might expect Hotel Sablon, given its status as the oldest hotel in town, to serve this time-machine function. But as venerable as the structure may be, the Sablon’s interiors are shockingly up-to-date — this is a modern boutique hotel, through and through, and the contrast of its interior design with its 16th-century architecture is as striking as any we’ve ever seen." - Tablet Hotels

What made this hotel stand out for us was the friendly staff, the courtyard for a drink in the evening or just to rest in before bed, the free infused water and small cakes, the very comfortable bed and the quietness of the room. |I don't know if room 43 was large or small for the category we booked but it was adequate and well presented. It is unusual for us to sleep well in hotels due to noise (people or traffic), poor air conditioning systems or uncomfortable beds. This room was excellent in all these aspects 10/10. |We have been to Bruges 4 times over the last 17 years and this is the 3rd hotel we have stayed in. When researching where to book we gathered from past reviews and photos that all the rooms are different in some way - common in older properties. Some have walk-in showers, some have baths with shower over, some have no bathroom doors, a few have balconies, some are in the attic space so have skylight windows (Velux). |We booked late and I think we got the last Deluxe Room for our dates so we didn't ask for anything in particular except for a large and light room. We got a room in the attic space with two large Velux windows so there wasn't a view as such unless you stood up and then we could see the Belfry. We also had a bath which was not my preference but I did have my first bath for years because of that! |Of the 3 hotels we have visited in Bruges this was by far our favourite. Yes I would have preferred a walk-in shower and normal windows but it didn't detract from the overall experience.|A last observation is that the bar prices were acceptable, unlike some hotels that charge way more than bars just down the road. |In summary this is a solid choice if you want a central, comfortable hotel with outside space that has been carefully and tastefully renovated. with a modern twist.

Decent hotel in a good location. Service at reception on arrival was excellent. All good, except for two issues; Breakfast price at 35EUR is exceptionally overpriced and high. Biggest issue was that all 4 pillows in our room had an awful, strong smell of sweat. The pillow cases had been washed, but the stench from the ancient pillows themselves was deeply unpleasant. Gross!

My favorite hotel from my two week travel! This hotel is super chic and stylish, in a great location, and the staff are so sweet and helpful. When you check in, they give you a map and explain some good places to check out. It was easy to stop back at the hotel mid day to drop things off or grab anything I forgot. They also have free water and homemade pastries in the front room. The rooms are smartly designed, clean, and beautiful. I absolutely loved staying here!

The hotel is well placed, our room was large but we would have appreciated a closet or similar to hang our clothes. Happy the hotel closed the exterior sitting area in the evening otherwise we could not have slept due to the noise. I would have thought using as storage for flammable materials the space under the main wooden escape stairs would violate fire regulations.

Great location in Bruges and very attentive staff. Room was nice and clean. We don’t spend a lot of time in our hotel room when we travel - this hotel was very good for our purposes and our budget. Recommend packing your own shampoo and conditioner. Great landing spot for a Bruges trip!

This hotel is stunning set in Bruges oldest building dating back to 1590.||This is ideally located between the two main streets in Bruges and 4/5 minute walk from the main market square which is centrally located.||The room was extremely spacious we had room 43 on the 3rd floor. ||The bed was supper comfty and soft, after a long day walking around Bruges and totalling 30k steps as soon as our heads hit the pillows we were out like a light for the next 9 hours!||Perfect stay for a busy exploring day around Bruges and would very highly recommend this hotel for your next stay.

Yelp
We've stayed here twice in the past year. Breakfast is good. Front desk is pleasant and helpful. Never ran into cleaning staff. Hotel Is the oldest but also the most recently renovated. We enjoyed our spacious room. Only complaint is that they should have some shower/tub mats or texture on the bottom of the tub as it can get a little slippery stepping out. Great location and fairly quiet except for the construction going on in a building nearby.

Yelp
This review is based off of grabbing a drink on their sweet little drink patio. I was initially pulled into the space by a sign on the street and the beautifully thought out sitting space. As I entered there as a lady wiping tables off and making things tidy. I was clearly a little confused what the space was because there was no one sitting. I wondered around a little bit looking extra lost. After a few minutes of looking like a lost puppy, I asked the lady cleaning if I could get a drink or were they closing. The lady seemed annoyed that I was there and answered impatiently and said someone would be out to take my order. After waiting for about 10-15 minutes (on a beautiful patio mind you, which is why I was there) a friendly girl came to take my order. After the interesting and unwelcoming start, I enjoyed my fancy drink in a neon green chair. I guess if they didn't want me there, they shouldn't advertise to people walking by. This is definitely an upscale place and the initial interaction made me feel unwelcome. I give it three stars because I would return to have a cocktail on the patio again. My hope is that my initial interaction was just somebody having a bad day and not me being treated differently because I wasn't a hotel guest.

Yelp
Booked here and there was no bathroom door! There was a bedroom and bathroom adjoining and no door between. My husband and I had to take turns stepping out of the room at various times. Which makes things quite difficult if you are not feeling well. When I went down to reception and asked for a room with a bathroom door she said it would be 50$ more a night. The manager could overhear the entire exchange as she sits on her laptop all day steps from reception. I had payed 200$A NIGHT for a Wednesday and Thursday night and I see online the hotel is available at 100$ a night for that Friday and Saturday! Come on now!!! Perhaps if you get a room at the right price and with a door you will be happy with your stay. If you happen to be put on an overpriced room with no bathroom door you will not!

Yelp
Stay was great! Staff is accommodating and super friendly. Excellent location and beautiful historic building. Loved the garden for drinks, work and just fun. Recommend this location based on quality of room for the price, hotel staff that was accommodating and super friendly, and convenience to so many great things to see in Bruges!

Yelp
Had the great fortune to stay at Grand Hotel Du Sablon during our long weekend in Bruges. It was right in the heart of the Historical City Center which made it extremely easy to walk around to all the touristy hotspots. Our room set up was extremely unique - we exited the elevator to find a whole floor with a common area, complete with couches, coffee table, service table area with teas & water kettle then surrounding this area were individual rooms Beds were hard & comfy - I prefer a firm mattress - & noise was almost nonexistent - which was awesome given the other rooms on our floor had children / strollers Parking was offsite but there were nearby garages that were extremely affordable WiFi was free & connection was fast Bathroom had lots of hot water & pressure was great Overall a lovely stay & one we would repeat, given the opportunity!

Yelp
Do you want some help making a reservation for dinner from the front desk? Well, you won't get it here. The suite is 800 Euro per night, but they won't help you make a goddamn dinner reservation. The hotel, in general, is very nice and the location is excellent. The breakfast is also very good. The problem was the lack of giving a shit (even for Europe) about the customer. Look, I Know I'm an awful American tourist (I've gotten that vibe from plenty of folks in Belgium), but for 800 Euro a night a LITTLE consideration might be expected. Seriously, I'm sure there are other FAR more helpful hotels in Brugge that value their customers. However, all the dude downstairs seemed to be concerned with is keeping the candy dishes in the lobby full. Rock on candy-dish-dude, rock on....

Yelp
Excellent location. Room was nice, comfortable and plenty of room. Breakfast was good and service was prompt. Price for a last minute booking was great. Would stay here again.

Yelp
This hotel is attractive from an architectural and decorative design standpoint. The breakfast was acceptable. However the front desk attendants are generally rude, and the portly blond man is an absolute asshole. He refused to even try to help us find a dinner reservation, and acted as if it was ridiculous that I even asked for his help. He said it would be too difficult given the holiday season. He would let us use the phone but otherwise that was all the help he was willing to provide. We were staying in the upstairs suite and paying 800 euro a night. The level of customer service we received would have been more appropriate for staying at a youth hostel. Unfortunately, although the room was comfortable I cannot recommend this hotel. The overall experience was so NOT worth the price.
