Owned by the folk who brought you Grande on Limmatquai and Dante, over in Kreis 4, Bovelli, centrally located, is a pretty slick place in which to have a coffee. Bovelli is a lounge that makes both high-end cocktails (think: Simplon) and tasty espresso drinks (think: Benzin & Koffein). To be frank, they had me at Sipsmith's Sloe gin. It must be said that the young woman who waited on me was quite friendly and understands how one builds clientele. However, it must also be said that I've experienced there a bit of pomposity the likes of which I've seen back home. (Ritual on Valencia in SF, anyone?) Just because you work/own a bar, doesn't mean that my opinion on spirits/cocktails is shite. And, if you insist that I don't know squat, then at least have the courtesy of disguising it. I was pouring drinks when you were still in primary school, sonny.
Bovelli is such a large, open space that the tables feel a bit sparse, leaving the floor-space ample. One almost expects a disco ball to come out and dancing to be had in the late evening hours. As Bovelli is still relatively new, well, who knows? Maybe that'll happen!
