Brackett House is an AWESOME HIDDEN JEWEL, and our host was GREAT!!! . Kim communicated very well and responded promptly to any questions or requests that we had. |This home is beautiful inside and out, the rooms are spacious plus the beds are oh so soft and comfortable.| The location is perfect, especially its closeness to the college my daughter attends, making it the most suitable and satisfying stay for us all. Our time spent was filled with peace, joy & comfort. On the early mornings and evenings, we would get in a little cardio by walking around the quiet, clean well-kept neighborhood or just to sit out on the patio and relax in a cool serene environment.|All I can say is this is just a rare find, unique location top tier service and great host. This little paradise you have created is understated.|I enjoyed every bit of my time there, it is the perfect choice when staying in Mount Vernon IOWA.| I highly recommend this place. It’s truly a gem. I also want to pray for you and your family that you will succeed in all your ventures, as you continue to be a blessing to others.||Patrick Michelle Kimmy|

The location is perfect if you’re touring Cornell College! The house is lovely and historic. I can’t express my gratitude for the Innkeeper, Kim enough. She is a very special person who made my son and I feel extremely welcome. Her communication before, during and after our visit was helpful and thoughtful. She is an asset to the community! Even if my son doesn’t attend Cornell College, I still want to go back to visit Kim and the Brackett House.

This was a great introduction to Cornell College for my daughter and me. Kim welcomed us like we were long-lost family, and we immediately felt like we were just staying at a relative's home. A relative's very, very clean home. With a great, hearty, beautiful breakfast. We loved sitting on our porch (the Bess room is the best!) and watching the sun set as we looked at the beautiful Cornell campus. We walked to dinner at a Mexican place, and loved looking at all the houses in the neighborhood. It couldn't have been a better place to stay - so much homier than a hotel room. Thank you, Kim!

Stayed here with my daughter while visiting the college. What a great find! Kim (innkeeper) was fabulous...one of the best parts of the stay was chatting with her. Very knowledgeable about the college and the area. The room was very clean and suited our needs perfectly. Breakfast was wonderful. Kim was very flexible and responsive to anything we needed. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here while visiting Cornell College and will absolutely stay here if our son goes to Cornell. Quiet, clean, very well appointed. Beautiful house. Each room has a veranda. Convenient walks to down town, and looks out onto the main campus area. Highly recommend.

Stayed at the Brackett House to be near our daughter's wedding festivities. Beautiful inn with large rooms in a well-appointed historic home. On the Cornell College campus with beautiful oak and maple trees. Hospitality of the innkeeper, Kim Benasch, was outstanding! This is our new go-to when we visit family in Eastern Iowa. Perfectly situated near Iowa City, Cedar Raoids and Monticello! Highly recommend!

We were on a cross-country drive from Seattle to Cleveland, detouring through the open spaces of eastern Iowa in order to view the lunar eclipse. Much to our delight, we landed at the Brackett House, on the beautiful campus of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The house itself is a wonderful piece of history; the accommodations couldn't be lovelier. We felt at home immediately in a spacious room with a large screened porch -- perfect for in-house meals, which mattered a lot since we weren't dining in restaurants along the way. (Covid safety.) Kim is the best of innkeepers, attentive, respectful, and very helpful. Mount Vernon is a town of beautiful houses, tree-lined streets, shops and restaurants, situated in the rolling hills of eastern Iowa. You can feast your eyes on barns and silos, visit historic cemeteries (we visited one that had gravestones in Czech), hike along the Cedar River, or stop by the Eastern Iowa Observatory for a public program. ||There is a reason why Brackett House has 5 Stars from every reviewer. We stayed for two nights; wish we could have tarried longer.

Loved it! Kim is a great innkeeper. We were delayed and she waited for us. Communicated with email and phone. The house is beautiful. The room we stayed in (Elizabeth) was huge! Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family!

Yelp
Incredible visit at Brackett House. Beautiful older home, well maintained, and very comfortable. Simple, clean lines with lots of porches and sitting areas - not fancy or overly full of decorations (which is what I prefer). We had a great time visiting here and were so grateful for the innkeeper, Kim, who was gracious, funny, and very attentive to our needs - really a lovely person. There was also a nice lady who maintained the rooms. Everything was nice: big fluffy white towels; excellent Continental breakfast; tea and cookies for an after dinner snack. The B&B is on the edge of the Cornell College campus and about a 5+ min walk from downtown Mr. Vernon (with a charming main street). For anyone visiting Mt Vernon I would highly recommend you contact Brackett House for a stay. I would love to return and enjoy this relaxing house again!

Yelp
Stayed at Brackett House this past weekend and it was a great experience. The House has been renovated beautifully. The location could not be better; walking distance to everything. The Innkeeper, Kim, met us in the parking lot as we were arriving and quickly helped us settle in. The rooms were nicely appointed and the size was perfect. We stayed in the Elizabeth room, which had two bedrooms and a sleeper sofa; more than enough room for me and my sons. Kim also put on a wonderful spread for breakfast; yogurt, fresh fruit, an array of juices and cereals and the fresh, homemade croissants were delicious. Overall a great place to stay in the area and I would recommend for not only those visiting Cornell, but for anyone just visiting family that might need a little extra room to spread out but still be able to walk around town.
