Melbourne Travel Guide - Things To Do & Vacation Ideas

"A tucked-away pub in the inner-north known for solid pub grub and Aussie classics—especially a really good Chicken Parma—alongside less typical items like ham-hock, leek and potato croquettes and local beers such as Venom Golden Ale on tap." - Keira Alexander Keira Alexander Keira Alexander is an Australian journalist based between Melbourne and New York City. Do love this place for a few beers with friends, but cannot recommend the burger. Tasted fresh, loaded with ingredients but hopelessly let down by a bun reminiscent of the cheapest sugar-filled option at supermarkets. At least relative to the old menu/owners, was unfortunately disappointed given the old burgers were always a safe bet. Can’t speak to the other options on the menu but would certainly avoid the burger given general standard in Melbourne!

Steak was a bit tough but it was a good deal at $25, and I liked the sauce. Service was great and there’s a decent wine range (for only $12 a glass across the board!) Can’t beat those deals.

Phenomenal value they were offering with $8 VB pints during the ashes. The oven being down was a bit of a shame but the chicken schnitzel and Sunday BBQ on the specials were a serious highlight. Love the Brandon and love the new menu!

Went here the other night and was beyond disappointed with the food. The food used to be amazing when the old owners where running this place, but the new owners have let the place down when it comes to food. With the cost of living eating out is a luxury and one would expect tasty flavourful food, instead we where met with bland and very underwhelming food, never coming back again, plenty of other great places near by.

The good ol' Brandon has recently changed hands but the good vibes and cosy local feel is still present. The Monday $25 steak night was probs the best 'steak night' steak I've had in Melbourne, especially at that price. It was big, juicy with minimal gristle plus it was cooked to perfection, and the accompanying salad and chips were delicious. The staff are smiley and welcoming. The music is chill and at a good volume. The other punters always seem in a good mood. It's just a really lovely corner pub. Plus happy hour every day?! Yes please. Very welcome to the neighbourhood ❤️

Great neighbourhood pub! Grabbed dinner here recently before a gig nearby and when we arrived the place was busy (both inside and out!) which is always a great sign. We thankfully had made a booking and were taken to our table in the dining room. The room was perfect as it was tucked away enough to talk over our meals but also not far from the action. We ordered the Spiced Cauliflower Bites with Chipotle Mayo (to start), and the Beer Battered Fish and Chips and the Steak Sandwich (from the specials board). The food came out quickly and was really delicious - just what you expect from a great pub! The staff were super friendly and attentive and the music was on point. All up we could see why everyone loves this place and why it was so lively! We wish that this was our local!

Love this pub. Go for regular drinks with friends and always greeted by cheerful helpful staff who go out of their way to make us welcome. Have had a couple of family meals there and the food is definitely above your typical pub meal.

Had dinner at the Brandon last night after a long absence. Could not have loved it more. The potato cakes were amazing, my chicken schnitzel was perfectly juicy and my husband said his parma was “everything a parma should be”. Wines were well priced, staff were cheery and we finished with a retro ice cream which really hit the spot

Yelp
The one thing that I do like about this pub is that it isn't located on one of the main roads, which means that it doesn't tend to get anywhere near as packed as some of the other pubs that I have visited. Even then, it is still quite a charming pub that has some really friendly staff. In fact, the atmosphere here is quite relaxing, and they even have some rather nice beers on tap. Oh, they also have a beer garden, but it isn't one of the best, and mainly set aside for the smokers.

Yelp
Stunning dinner on Friday night. As vegetarians we shared the haloumi tacos, and sides of cauliflower and almonds, potato skins with seaweed and Japanese mayo. What an amazing combination- every mouthful a delight. At our local corner pub no less!
