Let's be real: you go to a place like Brant Point Grill for the view, not the food. But with prices like it has, I would at least except impeccable service, and that was perhaps the worst part of the meal.
Everything on Nantucket is expensive, and Brant Point Grill was no different. The food was fine, even good, but nothing to write home about. The Lobster Mac n' Cheese, burger, and truffle fries were all good, but no better than anything I had had off-island for less. The drinks (a tequila cocktail and an espresso martini) were likewise good, and strong, though under-garnished.
But. But, the real problem with this restaurant was the service. First, he asked if we wanted bread before we had even looked at the menus at the same time as taking our water order, so we agreed not realizing it was an extra charge of $7. The bread was delicious, but this approach felt underhanded and off-putting.
And then our waiter rushed us SO MUCH the meal was in no way relaxing or enjoyable. He rushed us to order, rushed our food, rushed our bill. Our food arrived before we had barely taken a sip of our cocktails, and we were done our entrees within 35 minutes of sitting down. He brought our check before we were done our second round of drinks, and well before we were ready to go. I understand they have people to seat so they need to move the tables, but 90-120 minutes is a very standard dining time and we were there barely 70--and that was us pushing it, not our waiter. If the restaurant wants to impose an hour's time limit, they should clearly state that when the reservations are made and no longer consider themselves a leisurely, luxury restaurant. And we were not the only table this was happening to--we overheard two woman insist to the waiter that they wanted to sit and enjoy their drinks, as he kept bothering them. Absolutely ridiculous.
