It was jampacked and this was expected as it was Sunday dinner time. What iI really like about this, is the culture of family. I felt that I was dining with a family owner. They tried there best to speak to me in English and for me it was the best. I spoke to them a little bit local and I guessed, that was also fine. The one I ordered was the recommended food set. Yes, for one, it is too many, but anyways I was planning the rest to go. The beef picanha was tasty, freshly cooked, seasoned well and got it right on medium rare. It is accompanied with brocolli rice, which is new to my taste. The yellow one with banana, which I enjoyed as well. Fries which I failed to touch and the amazing simple salsa that complemented the beef. The place was tight but manageable as again it was Sunday dinner. I felt that all the people working there loved serving customers food. Smiles on their faces and appreciates you being there. Muito Obrigado!

Google
An absolute classic and a must do when visiting Rio for the first time. Atmosphere is excellent, full of locals and a buzzing crowd. The food is amazing and the service is excellent. Consider sharing dishes, because the portion sizes are huge and they walk around with extra meats that you can pick from.

The food was unbelievable. Incredibly good. The only issue was the wait! Would recommend to go earlier to avoid the queues.

Google
There are a lot of restaurants in Rio that do the classic of: picanha, broccoli rice, farofa and chips but not a lot that get everything perfect. The picanha here is nothing short of amazing. Farofa is extremely tasty (yes you do taste the butter but it’s so yummy) and chips are very crispy. So good and worth it!

Google
We ate here 3 times during our 10 day trip to Rio! It’s just that good. Each time we went for the picanha and had some delicious caipirinhas on the side. The picanha is incredible value and comes with sides - too much for 2 people almost! Would serve 3 easily. Meat is cooked perfectly.

Google
My best friend and I decided to come here for a dinner celebration since it’s talked about so much. All the food was good. I like the idea that there is enough to share with either 2 or 3 people. My favorite was the broccoli rice, you definitely must try that. My waiter was wonderful he was very kind. I highly recommend to check it out while in the area.

32 GBP… for one of the best lunches you could ask for. Steak cooked on a bbq type fire in front of us. Chicken was tender and juicy. Freshly cooked. Sides paired perfectly with the selection of meats. Great beer. Fantastic gin based cocktails. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. If you’re in Rio, this place is an absolute must if you’re a foodie. Thank you

Yelp
There are no reservations here, just show up and put your name on the list. It gets very crowded and popular here. Expect to wait but they have an outdoor bar to sip on something while you wait. We sat inside and was served promptly. I got the traditional offering that comes with the sides and we added garlic bread. The garlic bread was so good and curbed our hunger. We got the steak more well done and I Love that they prepare it to your liking. We left full and happy.

Yelp
Excellent local Braserio in Rio De Janeiro. I went with a group of friends on Friday night. The scene was bustling in the business and the surrounding area. We were greeted with a grilled sausage as soon as we sat down prior to ordering. And the service was exceptional. Our beer glasses were never empty and the staff was attentive. We had the ribeye, grilled chicken, broccoli rice and French fries. All were superb! Please visit this local gem if you are Rio!

Yelp
I definitely understand the hype behind this establishment now! The Toscana Sausage appetizer they recommended paired well with the Tomato/Onion condiment we got on the side. We got the Picanha Braseiro Style and Galeto Brazilian Style. The Picanha combo was easily enough for two. However, the beef itself was a bit overcooked...if they had cooked the meat less to medium rare, it would have been one of the best steaks we've ever had. The Galeto had a great BBQ flavor and tender meat. The combo side dishes were many different Brazilian carbs, which went really well with the complementary chili oil. Finished the meal off with the Guava Jam with Catupiry Cheese dessert, a pretty good combo surprisingly. There is a non-stop influx of locals into the restaurant, and I highly recommend you join that line!

Yelp
The food is always good. I have never had anything I didn't like. The place is very loud tho. But I think it's because Brazilians can be a little loud when in groups. The service is pretty decent too. I keep coming back for the picanha.

Yelp
A must stop when you are in rio. This place is fabulous. Steak is the best that I have ever had service is fabulous. Just be careful the portions are sized for two people per order.

Yelp
I don't think you guys understand how ICONIC this restaurant was. During my recent vacation to Rio de Janeiro, I had the pleasure of dining at This local Restaurant, an authentic Brazilian gem that left an impression on my taste buds. Let me begin by raving about the star of the show - Picanha Steak. The succulent, tender cuts of meat were nothing short of a carnivore's dream come true. Each bite was a burst of flavor, perfectly grilled to perfection and expertly seasoned. The quality of the steak surpassed my expectations, especially considering its incredibly reasonable price. 10/10!!!!!

Yelp
Great steakhouse in a nice area in Rio. We ordered the Picanha with the 3 sides and a bottle of wine. The cost was about $85 American which was a good value. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare with slightly charred edges. The sides were traditional Brazilian sides (potato chips, crazy rice and some type egg/breadcrumbs dish) are were good but the meat was the superstar. I also tried one of the sausages that was brought by on a skewer and that was delicious. Service was good and the restaurant was a nice open air atmosphere.

Yelp
What a meal. Came in a group and we all had the same, what's in the picture. Cheese / honey was extra. 2 people should split the steak meal, enough to share. Make rsvp for quicker service. We asked for one of the steak well done but they all came the same.

Yelp
Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Come with friends, leave full. So happy we found this place. If I come back to Rio, I will 100% come back here!!!

Yelp
The meal was absolutely amazing! The meat was perfectly cooked and the side dishes were very well seasoned! There was plenty of food (definitely enough for 4 people) and we even were able to take home leftovers. The staff was friendly with great recommendations and the food came out very quickly. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating with lots of space.

Yelp
Amazing picanha and fries (it's all I ever get) served medium rare with perfect seasoning. This is an indoor/outdoor local place that is always packed even on weeknights while other places in the neighborhood sit half full. Nickname is "The Flirting Bar" because it is a great place to flirt with and meet up with local people. Open for lunch. They also have salads, seafood, soups, and a great house sausage that they slice up for you right off the skewer!

Yelp
I haven been coming to this place for Picanha and chopp (Brazilian craft beer) for 15 years at least. R you in Rio ? You should go there and feel the energy this place has ! Picanha, batata portuguesa, farofa com banana e arroz com brócolis is a classic!!

Yelp
Oh wow. This was unexpected. I spent 11 nights in Rio and had food in several much fancier restaurants... and yet my lunch at Braseiro da Gávea was one of the best meals I had in my whole trip. The place was completely packed, yet they found a little table for my group of 4 that was just right. The picanha was just right, not the best I have had but above average and certainly the best I have had for the price. The sides were plentiful and excellent. I loved the huge dishes and the atmosphere. I will be back.

Yelp
I was fortunate enough to have a local take me here, as I am just a tourist that wouldn't know better! We had to wait a good 20 minutes for a table, which was a good sign. Once inside, the service was very good and the food was simply outstanding. The side dishes really made the meal: bananas in a starchy covering, fantastic filet mignon, amazing rice dishes and the introductory sausage link given to everyone before the meal is served was fantastic. Braseiro da Gavea is in the right part of town (trendy, filled with younger folks especially at night) and the food is phenomenal.

Yelp
If you are looking for a fantastic food experience look no further! The neighborhood is also quite cute, the meat .... woooowwww!
google avatar

Devina G.

Yelp
The picanha was tasty, but I have experienced better. The place overcooks the beef and it was disappointing. The sausage was a good option as it was delicious. The place is rustic and organized to feed the masses rather than catering to the discerning. The ambiance is boisterous and the barbeque chicken average. I will try some different local favorites before returning to this venue.

Yelp
This place stays busy for a good reason. Come here hungry. The main menu feeds 2-3 people per entree. If you're alone, or a couple with small bellies...I recommend requesting the single portion menu. You can easily still spilt with 2 people with half the price. I ordered the carne asade, which comes with rice, black beans, French fries and this other stuff you dip bites of your steak into. All this converts to $9.50 US.....exceptional and good. I've bookmarked this so I plan to come here again!

Yelp
Epic food. The meat was awesome, huge dishes (better share), there's this side that's made of banana which is glorious

Yelp
THE BEST picanha in Rio! Baixo Gavea is a taditoonal squera where locals hang out in the carioca tradition! Braseiro is a classic Great for lunch too!

Yelp
This is the best place to get meat in the whole Rio de Janerio. The picanha is definitely the best I ever had and the restaurant is always very very crowded so in order to be seated if you have over 4 people in your group it may take a lot longer but typical wait time here can be at least an hour if you come during the middle of lunch or later. It's very nice here waiting you can sit outside and have a mix drink a beer and pastels or the sausage as an appetizer until your table is ready. Have been here three or four times and all the times the food is always been exceptional it's always on my to do list when I'm around. I've been to all the great restaurants around Rio and this is definitely the most flavorful picanha and for an appetizer the sausage as a definite must have prepare to come hungry and leave full. Speaking to all the locals this is the best meat by far with no comparison then any other restaurant. They just have one location in Gavea and it is always packed.

Yelp
I loved how this restaurant was in a hoppin' part of town, with outdoor seating. It was pretty crowded which was a great sign. We got the mixed beef platter which comes with the delicious broccolli rice and other sides - highly recommend. I give it 4 instead of 5 because the beef was way over cooked and the chicken had fatty parts. However, the sausage was delicious! I would have been happy with that, and the rice and beans. It's nothing out of this world, but a fun experience.

Yelp
The best gelato outside Italy.Unique flavours and highly educated owner. We visited everyday during our 10 day vacation. It is right by the JW Marriott.

Yelp
Very good! All food was delicious. And meat as well. Definitely will be back when in Brasil.

Sam V.

Yelp
Wonderful, authentic Brazilian food. Came here with a local friend. Sat outside on the terrace. We didn't open the menu because our friend insisted on ordering for us. We had steak, broccoli rice, empanadas and farfora (sp?) with bananas. Everything was perfect. Temperature of the meat, seasonings for the rice and farfora, and the caipiroska drinks are fantastic. We got ones with tangerine and strawberries. The ambiance is cool. Lots of young college folks as well as young professionals. The neighborhood is packed and you can walk around when you are done eating. A definite must when you are in Rio.

Yelp
This is a traditional local hangout. Almost every night you see clusters of people hanging out in this Gávea institution, having their chopp. They are well known for their grilled "picanha", a Brazilian cut of lean beef. The portions are big and should be shared. This is more of a quantity than quality kind of place. There is a large outdoor area, which is much more inviting than the indoors. Usually people will wait longer for a table outside. This is a gritty and somewhat dirty and unkempt kind of place. On my last visit I got sick from their food, so probably I won't go back any time soon ... maybe just for a beer.
google avatar

Isabel S.

Yelp
This one is just the best "galeto" (barbecue chicken) in rio! Eat until you can't anymore. If you like chicken or want to taste an incredible Brasilian barbecue, this is the place.
google avatar

Joao J.

Yelp
Great Brazilian barbecue! I hardly recommend the Brazilian sausage and the picanha cut. This is a traditional place that attracts a lot of young people that go there to drink draft beer and eat. Thursdays nights are always packed!
