Our favorite restaurant. The best onion soup and wine.

I have stopped giving 5-star ratings because I believe it makes every place seem the same; however, I still would rate this one a 5! This is a lovely French bistro. Everything was well-cooked, and the portions were generous. The onion soup was one of the best I’ve ever had, with perfectly balanced flavors! The tartare was delicious and served with a huge portion of fries and a salad, and the pâté was good as well. The location is excellent, and it’s clear that many locals frequent this place, which I always consider a good sign. I love it!

We ate a late lunch at this amazing restaurant. Fantastic staff and atmosphere. The gentleman that took care of us made some great recommendations. He spoke Spanish and English, which was great because my French is beginners at most. I am so happy we went here. The escargot, onion soup, and the duck were the best we’ve had in Paris- so far. The place was recommended by our hotel. I am not a dessert person but I was so happy that I had the cream brulee! We will definitely be returning!!

Google
Traditional French restaurant with a significant wine selection and solid food offerings. The French onion soup came out with a thick crust of cheese and breadcrumbs. The crispy cheese bits around the rim of the soup bowl were very tasty. The escargot was shelled and buttery, each in their individual holders on the tray. The Chateaubriand fillet with pepper sauce was excellent. The fillet had a robust beef flavor / texture and the sauce had a rich, thick consistency with prominent pepper seasoning. (If unsure about the sauce overcoming the great flavor of the fillet, recommend ordering the sauce on the side). The surprise was the fries - standalone and with the pepper sauce - the fries were a fantastic side dish. The profiteroles with ice cream and chocolate sauce were a great way to wrap up the meal. The pastry is done in house and the combination of the refreshing ice cream and deep chocolate sauce was amazing. The pistachio / raspberry cake was dense. The cake emphasized a combination of moisture, density, and pistachio flavor, which was offset by the fresh tart raspberries.

Found this by Google search while walking from the Arc de Triumph to the Louvre. Luckily we beat the lunch crowd and they had a table open without a reservation. Hostess was extremely pleasant and our server was very nice. Food and wine were very good as well. We sat at a table straddling the indoors and sidewalk tables. Good for people watching on this slightly off beaten path.

My husband and I went here after a super exhausting day (10am to 6pm) at the Louvre, and couldn't have been happier. Though we didn't have a reservation, we came in at around 615pm, and just barely missed the longer waits for drop in customers. The place was otherwise packed full of people with reservations, despite the quite large seating capacity. I have to admit that because of the opulent ambience and elegant wait staff, I thought I had landed in a tourist trap, but the food (and wine) was actually very, very good. We ordered the French onion soup, escargot, chicken, and duck aligot, and every single dish was superb. The prices were just a bit on the higher side but we were more than happy to pay because of the nice ambience, service, and especially the food quality, taste, and portions. One of the best places we ate at in our 4 week trip, and definitely recommend to family and friends.

Visited Paris from London for 3 nights and came here 2 out of 3. Our favourite spot, staff are so welcoming and friendly! The food and wine were spectacular and we had the best time, atmosphere is great. Served by Niro and Marius I believe and we loved it, thank you!!!

Google
Best steak tartare I've ever had! Great taste and just how I like it. Our waiter Frédéric F. was very welcoming, friendly and funny what made our lunch at Flottes even better. The rest of staff were friendly as well. Thank you so much. When we are back in Paris, we will definitely come back to Brasserie Flottes! 🥰

We had a late lunch here and had a great time with delicious food, great atmosphere and fantastic service. They have an option for 2 or 3 course menu and it was great for trying a few different things (great for sharing as well). The portions are a good size, food is full of flavour and great selection of wine. Highly recommend recommend for a taste of French couisine 😋. Bon appetit!

Yelp
This place earned a double visit during our week-long stay in Paris. The service was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is HUGE with a main floor, a basement and an upstairs. Food ... yum! We tried so many things in the two visits. All were great! Reservations highly recommended especially for larger parties.

Yelp
We came on our last night of our honeymoon. We didn't have a reservation but was kindly seated immediately upon arrival at around 6pm. Our server Marius was AMAZING. He is so kind, so funny, so helpful, and made us feel welcomed and at home. If you are lucky enough to be seated at his table, you are in the best hands. The French Onion Soup is famous for a reason....it is the BEST we've had in Paris and we had one every day during our stay. The creme burlee was also the best we've ever had, and that's saying a lot because I get a creme brulee every time I see one. Perfect crunch of the sugar and the smooth, creamy custard was divine. My husband got the Frapine cigar blend cognac, recommended by Marius and it was such an experience! It is absolutely worth ordering!!!!! Will definitely come back on our next trip to Paris, and I will recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks!!!!

Yelp
When in Paris you eat like the Parisians. It is typical and traditional. You will find many restaurants to stop into and order what you need before you go. It might be cocktails in one place. Dinner in another. And then a coffee and dessert in another after that. This is the way they have been doing it for you. I have done this too after visiting Paris for over 40 years. The food, the people, the way to eat is here. So, visiting Flottes was part of this. It was a convenient restaurant near the place I was staying and just a few blocks down the Rue de Rivoli not far from the Louvre. It was ideal for a dinner when you were ready. When we went in this evening the maitre d' knew who we were and had a table ready for the four of us. It was in the back, and being in Paris the rooms where small and crowded. Very typical. Receiving our menus we asked for water (which you need to do) and a wine list. Given that, we selected what we might want to have with dinner based on what we might order for the main course. Taking care of the appetizer and main entree, the bread was brought to the table and we stated to talk. This, again, is typical. You talk to each other. You talk to people in the table next to you. Welcome to Paris. First to arrive was the appetizers. Being in France we typically try the Escargots. The small snails that are cooked and placed in a mixture of butter and garlic and select spices. Being here it is made properly. This is the way to have Escargots. Some places in the US coats this with mushrooms and other items. (Do not go there.) But in Paris it is proper. And once you have the snails you then coat the dish with slices of bread to pick up all the sauce and flavor. This is a true Escargot. Once done, there was more wine as we waited for the entree. Here in Flottes the menu is vast and has a variety to order from. There is French foods, as well as pasta and even hamburgers. It is a variety. For me, I went with something I had not seen for years even in the US. I had to have Steak Tartare. This is about 1 pound of raw beef that is mixed in such a way that it is flavored with spices and herbs and a touch of something to make it pleasant. It is made quickly by the cook prior to being eaten. It is not in for mass production. It is an individual item. In this case, it was perfect. I am grateful for that. It was a special treat. Of course, it came with a side of French Fries and a small salad. A good meal to have. In the end we had desert. For two of us it was the French Profiteroles. But this was different, for instead of being stuffed with cremes it was one large pastry stuffed with vanilla ice cream and topped with chocolate. It was very large and rich with the total flavor of chocolate. I could not finish this. It is a good thing the wine and a double espresso helped me get through this. Overall, Flottes is a good place for dinner. The food is good. The team is perfect. The cooks know what they are doing. And the price is fair being here in the city. It has been around for a long time and the location is convenient. If you are in Paris it is a place to visit and have a good meal. You know what you will get. And it is something to talk about, especially to the people at the next table. Merci.

Yelp
Flottes was the perfect first meal in Paris. cute & comfy vibes, warm service, and solid food croque wasn't really my type but i absolutely loved the beef tartare, which had a veeeery slight kick (maybe green onion?). the foie gras was a little gamey on its own BUT paired well with the jam! wasn't extraordinary but definitely SOLID - u won't be disappointed. i do think i would've given this place a higher rating if i had ordered other menu items (not croque or foie gras). what we ordered: - duck foie gras w/ jam - beef tartare (MY FAV) - croque monsieur

Yelp
Our hotel recommended this place and when we arrived at 6:30 the tables in front were all empty plus the bar area was almost all empty. I asked the host a chubby man for 5 and he laughed at me. Then he mentioned to his book and asked if I was on it. I said no and he said 8:30. There's really no reason to be so rude and it's clear to me he was racist as well. Hotels please take this one off your recommendation list.

Yelp
We popped into Flottes on a Saturday night without a reservation while they were quite busy. The hostess was soooo accommodating and friendly she allowed us to wait in the lively restaurant until a free table opened up and she was able to squeeze us in! We ate up stairs which accommodated just a few tables and was a bit more quieter than downstairs. I thought the service was great the waiter kept us laughing throughout the night! (Bear in mind that dining in European is a lot more slower pace than in the states so expect to have a more leisure dining experience) For dinner I had the French onion soup to start and the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes for an entree! The French onion soup was really good but I do prefer less chunks of bread in mine. The roast chicken was also delicious, by this time of my trip I was a bit over eating steak and so this was a welcomed changed!

Yelp
We were staying in the area during a short layover and came in for a late lunch because I really wanted brasserie food. Even at almost 3pm mid week in October, it was still pretty full, but it's a pretty big place. I started with a dry martini, which is their dirty martini. They had a €27 pre fixe lunch (€33 if you add dessert). - Onion soup: not warm enough, and the onions weren't cooked down enough. I appreciate that they were generous on the cheese, but sad that it wasn't melted - Beef tartare: the only thing I was really craving since I was pregnant on my last 3 trips to France! Classic preparation with onions, cornichons, mustard. It was a very large portion of lean and tender beef, mixed tableside. This hit the spot. It came with a very generous portion of fries (just ok) and a side salad - Blanquette de la Mer: my husband's dish - a nice seafood entree with really good rice, a variety of fish, shrimp, mussels, and a buttery sauce Portions were very generous. Service was just ok as it was very busy. I would definitely come back for that tartare, but skip the onion soup or pick one of the other starters. That said, at €27 all inclusive for 2 courses, it was a pretty good deal, especially since there's no tax / tip / health surcharge in Europe!)

Yelp
This is a fine looking steak restaurant bar that caters to locals and tourists. Our server was a pro at timing the various courses and was all business. Not overly stiff that it put a damper on the climate but a smile on his face would have been a pleasant addition. I loved the individual rolled butter that accompanied our dinner rolls. We both weren't as impressed with our rack of lamb. The presentation was eye pleasing, it was not as flavorful as others we've had in the past at other establishments. The green beans and wine were delightful but more herbs, spices or even salt would have made this tender lamb entree a knock out entree. For dessert I usually always gravitate towards the creme brulee, if on a menu. I did order a vanilla one but the sweet dish that I liked even more was the "Liegeois Chocolate!" The Swiss chocolate ice cream was outstanding! Even more so when paired with Madagascar vanilla ice cream, chantilly and chocolate sauce! The blend of these ingredients made me want to swap my creme brulee for my husband's concoction! It was an enjoyable dinner but I had hoped for a bit more from the featured lamb.

Yelp
Walked in for dinner at 8pm with my boyfriend without a reservation. We had to wait around 10 min to be seated since the place was really crowded but with good reason. This is a very cute establishment with a lively ambiance and nice decor. The service was very good, our waiter was really friendly and helped guide us through the specials of the day. We got some white wine which was delightful and cool. For food we ordered: French Onion Soup: delicious, rich, and comforting dish. Came with a good amount of cheese on top and caramelized onions inside the soup. Also with some pieces of bread in it but I added extra from the delicious baguette we got for our table while we waited. Would recommend this! Fillet of Ling a La Grenobloise: Super mild white fish that came in a very subtle sauce with tomatoes and capers. The fish was mildly overdone but not to the point where it was rubbery or unpleasant, just a little too firm for my taste. It came over a bed of boiled potatoes which was a nice starchy compliment and also went very well with the sauce. Felt really healthy but filling at the same time. Beef carpaccio: my boyfriend got this and enjoyed it overall! The beef was thinly cut, lean, and topped with a good amount of parmesan cheese and arugula. Fries on the side were a little too soft for my taste but overall still super solid, not too salty or too oily. This is a reasonably priced restaurant around Vendome with very good service, a nice ambiance, and solid food. If you are in the area and want a place to have dinner I would definitely recommend it! Was too full to try the desserts but they looked really good. Hope I get to come back to try them in the near future.

Yelp
Great brasserie located at rue cambon, they are very reasonable for the location and serving size. I took one star off because the escargot was too salty. Also took another star off because I was looking forward to having rabbit as my main dish but was told that they were out. After that I ordered a white fish dish which tasted really odd. The fish tasted spoilt to be honest. I complained and they changed it out for the chicken but the server seemed unhappy about it. I felt bad but I did not want to be stuck with a dish I did not enjoy. Their almond tart was to die for!! Probably the best I've ever had. The rest of the staff was pleasant and I enjoyed the food here.

Yelp
Food was good and service was excellent. Came here because it was near our hotel. The price was good as well.

David K.

Yelp
Our waiter Fred was charming but he had to cover too many table and our service suffered as a result, however that did not keep the restaurant from charging a 20% gratuity... The food was adequate but nothing special. We ordered two types of fish. Again adequate but not great. The pear and almond tarte was terrible. The music, R & B, was great but it went on and off without explanation. All in all a place worth avoiding.
google avatar

Bubber H.

Yelp
An exceptional choice for a lunch or drinks after The Louvre, or if you just want to spend an impossible amount in the fashion district. The escargot were perfect, as was the duck confit, and the staff was friendly and helpful in choosing my wines for me. It is cozy and comfortable. We sat at the bar and loved it. I can recommend Flottes without any reservation.

Yelp
First meal we had in Paris. Super friendly, onion soup was so yummy, pretty big size too. My husband had streak and I had scallop and it was delicious! Couple on next table was also from US and they told us, they always come here and have their chicken because it is super yummy. We didn't have time to go back and try it, but next time we're back in Paris, we'll definitely go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Do not come it in a hurry as this is a place to do a casual business lunch. Very nice looking interior which is larger than seems when look I windows as have an upstairs. Recommend getting a reservation. Not cheap but food was good and serving size were adequate. Surprisingly pity of Chardonnay but had a white Côtes du Rhône.

Yelp
This place was just what we needed. I wanted a good crème brûlée and it hit the spot. My guy was looking for a nicely paired drink and he got several. The service and welcoming and efficient. The place was busy but you could hear easily have a conversation.
google avatar

Yelp
Most memorable was our French onion soup. It was late and we were able to get a nice cozy seat outside, even though it was packed with loud, happy customers. The waiter was thoughtful but his service had to be spread among so many tables.

Alex H.

Yelp
Very good food, also a very busy restaurant. The filet was perfectly seasoned, definitely would come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Reservations were on time. Ambiance was great. Long weekend and packed house required high efficiency with a sacrifice on creating an environment of rushing the customers. After a while though, for some reason there was an attitude adjustment - so I'll take that. I asked for spinach and mashed

Yelp
Been here three times this week! Nicest and I mean the nicest staff in the world. The wonderful gentleman and lady at reception are incredible welcoming. The service staff looks great, polished, and all are happy at work which is a testament to their leaders. And the FOOD. Those oysters were the freshest I've ever had..from Utah beach, the onion soup literally is a never skip, the croque sandwiches (had both) are we perfect, and the salad dressing makes me want to sneak back and steal some to take back to Chicago!!! But the star Attraction was Our dinner tonight in the back room. We showed up with 2 more than planned and they were more than happy to make that work. We had a perfect table, perfect service, and OMG to the Pork Leg in Demi glacé with the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. Our host was the most sincerely beautiful soul in all of Paris! I go home on Tuesday. And I will carry this restaurant as a memory forever for the conversation, food, wine and company all around me. Thank you all for reminding me what a wonderful world it is and please take extra special care of your staff! Be back soon I promise!

Yelp
I ate here Sunday night and I still can't stop thinking about it. I ordered the poulet fermier' with mashed potatoes. The server asked me which part of the chicken I wanted and I chose the breast. It was absolutely mouth-watering. The tinge of yellow in the potatoes insured me they were delicately made with that divine French butter and they tasted like clouds of pure joy. A side of juice, or maybe it was gravy came sitting in between the chicken and the potatoes in a little porcelain tasse. I poured some on every bite of the potatoes and I even dipped each morsel of chicken in it. It was the color of gold and just as precious. In between tastes I sipped on the crisp smooth pouilly fumé in which I had 2 glasses of and it paired perfectly with my meal. I finished it all with the most cliché dessert I could choose, the crème brulé and it was sublime to the very end. The slight crunch of the crispy top added to the perfect relationship to the decadent cream below. It wasn't just the food that was absolutely amazing, yet most important, but the service. Not only did I have one waiter helping me but 3, all so attentive, helpful and if I dare say, very French and so handsome. Flottes is a definite feast for all the senses. Monsieur Michel welcomed me in like a long lost friend. His smile so warm 'comme d'habitude '. Flottes is a place I come back to over and over again when I want incredible food, service and a place to feel special.

Yelp
Place was recommended by a friend back home in Miami Lakes. It did not disappoint. Service was amazing. From when we walked in without reservations till we were done. Our waiter was super patient and kind. Helped us with the menu and sharing his thoughts on the food. French onion was amazing! Rack of Lamb delish! Filet steak was good not the best we have had. They have a kid menu just be alert, the steak is not sirloin or filet, taste and looks like a burger patty. She loved it.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
We went here twice on our Paris trip. Great variety of French dishes and very friendly to Americans. We walked in for lunch and sat at bar once and made dinner reservations for two for another night. The French onion soup was hearty and tasty but on the heavier side. Very cheesy but worth trying. We also had steak tartare which was excellent and a veal dish which was super tender and flavorful. Escargot was also great but very hot so be let it cool so it doesn't burn your mouth baba.

Yelp
Wonderful dinning experience with great staff and incredible food. The mussels were incredible as was the steak. We can not wait to go back again.

Yelp
Food service and food prep all excellent. Well thought out dishes, from appetizers to desserts. Service is excellent. Attention to detail excellent. A wonderful experience for our group of 14 (with 5 little children).

Yelp
Our waiter was a young gentleman who--like another reviewer said--was all business. We are English speakers so we had slight difficulty with the menu. After a misunderstanding our waiter frustratedly said he would put in our drink order and come back when we were ready. As we placed our entree order he corrected my daughter's pronunciation of a dish and said that she would receive another dish by mistake if she continued to pronounce it incorrectly. He said this without malice but it seemed unnecessary to point out. The food, which was average at best, was spoiled by our waiter. I would recommend going elsewhere if looking for a good restaurant by a hotel.

Abiena C.

Yelp
The concierge at Castille Paris recommended many restaurants. We finally chose a restaurant within walking distance of our hotel. The meal was superb meal! #GP,TX

Robert P.

Yelp
Got the smoked salmon entree which, in my opinion, was raw salmon. I did not feel comfortable eating raw salmon in Paris. . So I asked the waiter to put it on a pan and fry it up so that it would be cooked. He said he could not do that. I was not able to eat the other two pieces of the three that were provided. I was disappointed with the waiters unwillingness to provide the customer with his wish to have this salmon cooked.

Rebecca K.

Yelp
On our first evening in Paris, and with a large group, the hotel staff recommended Flotte. The service was fantastic and the staff was very patient with our English-speaking party. The food was delicious and we enjoyed our visit so much we returned another day.

Mark G.

Yelp
I have been coming to Paris regularly on business travel for 15 years. I have never had a bad meal at Flottes. The service is tremendous and the food very good. I am often on the go and just want a quick meal at the bar. They are very good to an American with no French language skills and appreciate if you are a business traveler to get the food out promptly. I like the beef dishes, but they are fantastic at many seafood dishes. I have also been here with work friends and wanted a leisurely table and beers. Wonderful atmosphere. Very Parisian with no attitude and a genuine regard for their customers. Professional in every way and I am thinking of my next trip there already. A must stop on any of my trips.
google avatar

Vibhu J.

Yelp
A delightful little place in the heart of Paris on one the many charming narrow alleyways. The owner / manager is a super friendly guy. Everyone here speaks English which was a bonus for me. The Cavalier de Boeuf was almost perfect. Would have been even better with some vegetables on the side but I guess that's not the Paris way. Tasty nevertheless I stopped by again today and sat at the bar and Avocat Emincé (Sliced avocado); very good. Also tried the Pâté en Croute & Cornichons. Again, did not disappoint. The staff are super friendly. Highly recommended if you are in the area

Yelp
We went to Flottes on recommendations of hotel staff. Appetizers - seafood platter was awesome and the French onion soup & escargot top notch! Main course - the largest scallop on 1/2 shell we have ever had in a beautiful fennel cream sauce! Dessert was French classic Wine recommended was on point as well as the service Must try when in area

Yelp
We had dinner at Flottes, it was a recommendation by a friend who had previously visited Paris. We made a reservation the day before for dinner at 9PM. They have some top tier french onion soup that I wish I could eat every day! Everything was delicious and the service was great! You can tell this is a popular spot for locals and people visiting, the place was popping!

Norman C.

Yelp
I can't understand why this place has 3.6. I never post anything, but seeing the unfair comments. I had to... This place is excellent. Everything from the drinks to the food. All the food including the cheeses and desserts are amazing. And everyone is very polite. Just remember try to speak a few words of French, when you walk In.
google avatar

Ani K.

Yelp
My mom and I celebrated New Year's Eve here and the service and ambiance was incredibly warm and inviting. The hostess Stephanie was so lively and made our visit unforgettable. The seafood was so fresh, I had to return a second time.

Yelp
This is the quintessential snotty french food wreck. The oysters from Brittany were brilliant, as they were in other better restaurants. Everything else was a horror show. Terrible steak frite. Not very good filet buried in poivre sauce without warning. Pathetic limp skinny frite that were the worst anywhere. Hospitality was pretentious or condescending. We hated everything here except the oysters. Get them somewhere else. Avoid this tourist trap crap. I'm adding to this after reading some "good" reviews by people who evidently just fell out of a MikeyDs. When you are served creme brulée, immediately touch the sugar coating. If it is cold send it back. It came out of the frig and was fired who knows when or where. Liken to cold fish. Warm sugar assures freshly-fired creme brulée made in the kitchen just now. When you order French Onion soup, immediately pull the cheese back and survey the contents. All juice and no onions? Send it back. It isn't the real thing. This classic should be full to the brim with onion, good baquette and just enough cheese to last through the dish. Flottes was all cheese and broth with no onions, no flavor and the cheese was tasteless and like bubble gum. And, by the way, no good steak frite should be buried under a blanket of pepper sauce unless it is advertised as steak poivre on the menu. Some people have no food chops.

Yelp
The escargot is delicious with their butter and seasoning mix. The French onion soup is the best I've had, and the crème brûlée is amazing.

Yelp
The service was amazing , very touristic and food was just ok. I had the soup and the bourguignon bœuf.

Yelp
Delicious in every way and the service is impecable. We dined there twice during our visit to Paris. Terry was very pleasant.

Yelp
Amazing French onion soup. Terrific service! Highly recommend! Street side ambiance fun and enjoyable!

Yelp
Super busy before I arrived at regular dinner hour at 7 pm. Sat at the bar as I made no reservations ahead of time. Service was phenomenal. Three different servers purposely engaged in conversation to ask about the food. I had a serving of French version of prosciutto with little pickles. I also tried the chateaubriand with fries with Côtes du Rhône wine. Reasonably priced and conveniently located near place de Concorde. Will return for oysters, cheese plate offerings, and dessert on the follow on visit.

Samantha S.

Yelp
Convenient to our hotel. Host is rude. My mom got food poisoning from the onion soup.

Yelp
We stopped in to Flottes for lunch after our arrival in Paris and FELL IN LOVE. The French onion soup is out of this world. Hands down the best French onion soup in the entire city of Paris - and believe me we ordered a bowl every place we went. We loved Flottes so much we went back!

Yelp
It was OK...the food was good (chef salad and Trish & chips), but the service was not great. We didn't have a reservation and got seated pretty quickly / it was not busy.
