On our first night in Paris, we decided to take a stroll through parts we weren't familiar with (oh wait, that's all of Paris). No surprise when we ended up getting lost and somehow on a street with a bunch of eateries, most of them packed.
As we walked through the cobblestoned street, I was getting disappointed because there weren't many places that had food (or so it seemed). Everyone was drinking - no surprise - but I was hungry and determined to eat. As we passed all the rowdy shops and closer to the quiet part, we walked by this restaurant, which wasn't very packed. What caught our eyes, or rather our noses, was the delightful scent of chips.
My first impression when we walked in was that it was surprisingly small. The dishes we ordered - duck confit and beef au poevre - were great. I mean, you really can't go wrong with duck confit and I pity any place that doesn't know how to properly cook it. The duck and the beef were both very tender and flavorful. The meal itself was very unhealthy but delicious. We paired it with a red and a rose, both which I cannot remember the names of. I wasn't able to finish my dish, as there was a lot. For dessert, we had the creme brulee, which was just amazing. It was very creamy and light. The crystallized sugar on the top cracked perfectly.
We left feeling satisfied and eager. Eager to find more food in Paris that was on this level. While there were very few that lived up to our expectations, Les Petits Carreaux is what we thought Paris should taste like.
