Breakfast at Shelly's

I love this little spot!! The prices are very fair and the food is always good. Getting a sit down breakfast for less than $10 is rare these days, even at a diner. The Yinzer is our go to breakfast for only $7 here. We just tried the steak bagel that comes with deliciously seasoned home fries for $10. They have a good variety of lunch items as well. The Reuben with onion rings is my go to lunch order. There's nothing fancy about this place, just good food and friendly staff. All I could ask for. Highly recommend.

It's a small quaint dinner with not a lot of seating. However, the food is excellent. We have never had anything bad here. The prices are great as well.

First of walking in the atmosphere is like a whole diner, not the best looking, but I just knew by the appearance it was gonna be good. The nice lady welcome me, she’s sweet love her and she’s hilarious. She help me out by picking out a deal because I want a little bit of everything and it was so delicious as you can see. I cleared my plate. I’m a little person abd finished all my food. and I love all old school diner food is taste just like if he was to cook it with your momma! The food was so good. I’m definitely coming back to my boyfriend and sister because we love old diner food!! The best part is it’s affordable thank you so much. I found this place off of Google.

Food was ok, place was cleaned, not busy at all, the waitress did not have a positive customer friendly vibe. She was there for a pay check I guess. I might come back, might. Cash only unfortunately

Terrific. Well worth the drive through pittsburghs oldest hillside neighborhoods. Owners clearly have a lot of pride. Wide open, very clean restrooms, great food and service. Servers were the best in the 'burgh.

Definitely recommend this local diner, especially for families. My gyro was a little on the burnt side, but the potatoes were the best thing on the menu! The prices are fair. The service was absolutely wonderful and super friendly!

phenomenal breakfast. our first time here but we'll absolutely be back next time we're in Pittsburgh. perfect place to stop if you like a low key, diner experience. excellent portions for the value and the service was great.

I ordered this for delivery, so I cannot speak on the service or inside of the establishment. BUT, the Hot Sausage Breakfast Sandwich was phenomenal! The sausage is some of the best I've had. Fresh with lots of flavor. The home fries were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The star of the show for me was the dutch crunch roll. Soooo soft & fluffy! Delicious!

I loved everything I saw when I walked in but after an hour and a half of waiting for my food, watching people come and go long after I had arrived and ordered, it became too much and I can't give them the review I wanted to. An hour and a half to make breakfast food?! Seriously?! It was not by any means busy but how long does it take to cook bacon seriously? I wasn't even going to write this review but when other customers came up to me asking if I was STILL waiting, I felt like that was a sign. The reason for 2 stars is because when I did eat the bacon I ordered, it was actually decent.

Absolutely our favorite place to hit every-time we come into town. We live in WV and talk about this place all the time and how we wish we could visit more. The service was great. Food spot on per usual. Love the whole vibe they have going on there

Everything about this place is great. Delicious home fries and omelette for $10. Service was superb. Bathrooms are However Down a long steep staircase. Street parking only. It a classic diner Kind of feel. Food came quick and Perfect, despite a fairly good sized crowd on a Saturday around noon. Pubes on men's bathroom sink was slightly disturbing. Although I assume it was a customer. I used the bathroom before I ate and after I ate and they were there the whole time. I also think people are smoking in the bathrooms, again I'm assuming these are customers that don't have the highest respect for other people. I would definitely eat here again though. And yes, I washed my hands both times I used the bathroom before I walked out of it.

What a great find, Dana's daughter dis a Door Dash a couple of weeks ago and loved the food. Today stopped by on the way back from dropping of people at airport. Street parking out front and truly a diner atmosphere with red stools around bar eating and tables along the wall. I had Carnivore Omelette and home fries, & coffee - $14.99 - outstanding. A must go to if you love diner food done right Only open til 2:45 daily.

We are in town for a family trip to see the Steelers and pigeons. We searched for a couple hours to find breakfast and found this gem. Kathy was awesome and the food was great. This was an amazing experience and I highly recommend this spot. You can't do wrong with this place. Thank you so much Kathy for the great experience.

True diner feel. Sat ourselves and waitress was very nice and we got our food fairly quickly. Food was delicious and just what you need after a night out, definitely got the itis afterwards.

Went here for breakfast with little sister. There were no seats left so we ordered take out. Was told it would take 15 minutes, we waited an hour. Also $3.00 if you order take out then decide to dine is is ridiculous. I understand if kitchen is backed up, I've worked in restaurants my entire life but at least tell us it'll be a little bit longer. No one said anything the entire time we waited. Don't recommend.

POOR! In every respect. Was cold and snowing, beautiful sight outside we were able to watch from the window. Were seated closest to the door and farthest from their kitchen area. Food was average for a breakfast diner, service was horrible from the server, a black haired rather tall lady. Had to ask six separate times for coffee, Sweet and Low, napkins and sour cream. Once she brought the check it took forever for her to process payment. Not returning ever. There are plenty diners in Pittsburgh. Most are great...Eggs R Us on Noblestown Rd is superior. In food and service. Lindo's is unbeatable! Why go to Shelly's?

Old school diner vibe. When we went there were not a lot of people so it was an easy in and out. The food was great and the staff were friendly. Great home fries. Definitely recommend.

Great basics ...Grilled Cheese and a nice bowl of Stuffed pepper Soup. The food was excellent ,however the location is being remodeled and adds a bit of a challenge. PS GREAT homemade French fries.

I discovered this spot during the pandemic & it quickly became my go to. I'd order to-go nearly daily and the staff even had my order memorized when they recognized my voice over the phone. It's a lost gem in Pittsburgh's breakfast scene and deserves so much more credit. The staff is so kind and attentive. Their to-go orders are just as fabulous as their dine in orders, which is a huge plus in my opinion. Fair prices for awesome food!

Shelly made me kielbasi this morning and that makes big boy Tom happy. Typical diner food with that just takes it over the moon. Chill place, waitress calls you baby, that's nice. Go to Breakfast at Shelly's.

So. FREAKING. Good!!! I'm normally really not a fan of getting breakfast delivered, but this was awesome! Just so good, delivered on time, good price for the portion sizes, etc.

Another hidden treasures on the Hilltop! Every meal feels like it's made with love. You can sit at the classic dinner counter and watch an early Steelers game on Sundays or just enjoy quiet company in a booth. I've never had a bad meal at Shelly's. The French toast roll-ups are to die for and if you add a side of cheesy grits, your taste buds won't regret it. The breakfast burrito is an easy favorite of mine. Street parking is pretty easy and the staff makes you feel like family. Just remember to bring cash, this place is cash only but they do have an ATM on site. Extra trip: always ask about the daily specials and don't forget it's BYOB!

The food was good. We got the French toast roll ups, steak sandwich, peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes, and breakfast burritos. The portion was generous and prices really reasonable. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The only thing is it took really long before we got our food. They're definitely understaffed. We went sat morning and it wasn't super crowded. There is also a greasy smell at the place. I would consider coming back if I lived closer. The food was good but it wasn't good enough to make the trek up the slopes.

I'm updating this review because I've been to numerous diners since my original review and this hot sausage sandwich on the Dutch crunch bread is one of the best I've had.

i called at 10. i got 1 omelette w/ home fries. they said 10 minutes. i get there 10 min later & wait inside for 30 min all the while there's really not that many people in there at all. :/ the food looks good in the photos but it's pretty bland. not coming here again. thought it would be a quick cheap option but it was more trouble than it was worth. BUT! on my way home i found a free trampoline on the side of the road which was great - hence the 2 stars lol

This gives a really local, down-to-earth diner feel. Not the place if you want something fancy or upscale for the environment. However, if you're looking for a low-key place, this is for you! The quality of food is higher than the price. The food is excellent and very well priced. My friend and I got the breakfast sandwich with sausage. The homefries on the side are awesome - super filling and savory. Only a docked star because wait is a little long and seems to be understaffed. The restaurant isn't super clean.

This place is awesome. Solid and delicious breakfasts - we had only used delivery and finally came in for dine in and YES! Super classic diner. Awesome owner. Had a veggie scramble with an everything bagel. My husband had a chicken sandwich and liked it lots. I think they are unrecognized because there's not a ton of foot traffic but this place should be PACKED on the weekends. Will be back!

My fiancé and I stopped at Breakfast at Shelly's Sunday morning around 10am. Much to our surprise, the place was empty! It quickly became clear that they do a lot of business through grubhub. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with hot sausage and home fries (my go to) and my fiancé ordered the standard #2 (2 eggs over easy, sausage, home fries, and toast). The sandwich came on a Dutch crunch bun which was delish. The sausage wasn't your standard patty or link, it was hand formed and grilled to perfection. Neither the fried egg nor the sausage was overly greasy which made the sandwich that much better. The home fries were cooked nicely with a seasoning blend that sets them apart from all the other diners. Overall, the only thing lacking was that diner "feel." We will likely return!

Best breakfast sandwich I've had in a while. Place is small and quaint, everyone is very nice, and they play great music. Food took a little while, but that's about the only complaint I can think of. Highly recommend making the trek up the hill for this one.

I had breakfast with Shelly's on my visit to Pittsburgh this time around. Am sure Pamela will be upset when she reads this, but you gotta do what makes you happy. This is a new business at a location that previously housed a dinner for decades. The interiors are unassuming and call out Steelers only, but the owner and servers are really very friendly. There are tables for large groups and comfy bar stools. I ordered spinach feta tomato omelette, they delivered exactly what it says, nothin more nothin less. The portion sizes are right and the food is not as greasy as the other more popular spots. The home fries are probably how I would make them at my home. Do bring cash as they do not accept cards here. Touchdown for me...definitely would come singing for the potato and omelette ...brown and yellow, brown and yellow, brown and yellow

Don't let the location discourage you, during the daytime anyways. :) Does very well for all of your standard diner fare, not anything as far as especially appetizing ingredients at least on the breakfast items.

The hot breath omelet lives up to its name. The hot sausage is made in house and you can definitely tell. The toast options were a little disappointing (no Italian and all bagged bread), but I'd recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a greasy diner option for breakfast.

Avoid this place. It's a greasy spoon.. and they do not know how to make an omelette--none of the vegetables were cooked, so it was eggs and a raw salad. The coffee was bad. No one in our party was happy with his/her dish, and not located in the best of neighborhoods.

Great place for breakfast as long as you aren't picky about how your eggs are cooked. Asked for sunny side up and got over hard, then asked for a replacement of sunny side up eggs and got over easy. Wasn't even busy in there. But the food itself was good. I've tried multiple sandwiches there, all great. Try anything on a Dutch crunch roll and you won't be disappointed.

Those three French toast roll ups for $8.50, each roll is smaller (slightly) than a 7-11 taquito. Plus mine didn't come with powdered sugar. I also got a veggie omelette ($10) and two or three cuts of veggies were still raw. The veggies weren't embedded in to the egg at all (you could take all the veggies out of the omelette while keeping the omelette completely intact) so everything would just fall out. The potatoes weren't seasoned. The white toast was good thankfully. This place wasn't bad, food is still edible and decent. I just expected more for $18.50

The atmosphere is retro-darling, clean and attentive. The food is great and they keep your coffee filled. Definitely worth a visit.

Ridiculously long wait times for delivery app orders. I recommend customers don't order from here if they want their food in a timely manner. I've informed with Uber Eats that this is a consistent problem with this restaurant. Zero sense of urgency.

This wasn't just the best breakfast, but the BEST meal we've had period in such a long time. We got a bacon breakfast burrito, a hot sausage egg dish that had homefries(THE BEST HOMEFRIES) mixed in, french toast breakfast sausage wraps and of course 1 pancake. The homemade mango salsa for the burrito was absolutely delicious. I can not wait to order from here again, that's how much we loved it. This made our lockdown so much better and put smiles on our faces. Thank you Stacey's!!!

Absolutely the best home fries of anywhere we have tried! Great service and food. PS - we have been in here many Sunday's and have seen app orders ready, waiting for pickup by drivers that are running behind - not Shelly's fault for long delivery time

The food was so good! The pancakes are light and pair perfectly with the combo breakfasts. Today's special was cheesy grits with bacon and they were awesome. Not much seating, though. Definitely not suited for parties bigger than 4. There's one table that looks like it would fit 8 but it's tight. And don't forget cash only!

Breakfast was phenomenal. Service was great. The omelet was made to perfection with the peppers being fresh. The home fries were something to write home about!

Food is a great and the atmosphere is pleasant. The real story is the owner, who works waiting tables and makes everyone feel welcome. Awesome place for breakfast and I will certainly be back again.

I tried this place today and wasn't sure how it was gonna be but glad I did, this place isn't anything fancy or even true to be its a nice little diner with a nice full deli, nice to see small businesses in the area and seems to do very well. I had the breakfast burrito with a choice of meat inside it was huge, very good. Nice service and I will definitely return to try other items so hard to choose the first time there.

This is a GREAT little place for breakfast! Breakfast at Shelly's has great food and at a great price. When i was there the music was great and Shelly was awesome! This is my new favorite breakfast spot! The only downside, if this is one, is that it is cash only but they have an ATM on the premises.

I ordered off of Grub Hub and the food was just ok. I had the sausage wrapped in French toast. What i was hoping for and what I got were two different things. The sausages were tiny and the toast was tasteless. I had to drown it in syrup to tolerate it. I also had a side of home fries, which were pretty good. I wouldn't recommend my order, but i might give it another shot...just a different meal.

Shelly's is a great neighborhood diner with good, straightforward breakfast food. There's also a lunch menu, butI haven't checked it out yet. As a bonus, pick up some soup or lunchmeat on your way out at the deli!

I ordered breakfast through a mobile ordering app after being tempted for several days now. I ordered pancakes (3 come in an order) and a sausage omelette that came with home fries and toast. The order was still at a nice temperature and fresh. The pancakes were excellent! The syrup they serve goes nicely with them too. The omelette was good. I didn't like the sausage used so next time I would probably just get a cheese omelette. Toast comes dry, not pre buttered like other places do and the home fries were tasty. Pretty nice breakfast overall and close to home!
