This is a great place to stay, has exactly what we needed as a family of 5. Wheelchair accessible, lift access to rooms, 24hour reception that made check in a breeze. The kids love the quirky feel of the rooms. Small but perfect for a night or 2 when you plan on spending more time out and about. Comfortable and clean.

This was a super find.|Great price and great location.|Close to all with dining options all day and a happy hour. |Cute seating areas, computer, and offerings of local discounts ( found in tourist corner). ||I did upgrade my room from the basic as it didn't have a window.. ||The best way to describe this room was inside cabin on a cruise ship...almost identical in set up including the shower/toilet. ||They offer a large family room with a little more space to be sure to check out the options here as a consideration to stay us well justified by its location and competitive dining options. ||I did decide to stay 4 nights here in addition to my initial arrival night purely for its price & location. ||My only fault to mention toilet was temperamental - flushing was a little challenging. |Breakfast can be hit and miss ... great one day ... not so flash the following... with little to no change in offering each day was the same it seemed.|Purely my own picks of what I would like to see improvements on. |Overall, it was a great stay.

If you’re travelling solo and love mini houses or Japanese micro apartments this place is for you. Tiny rooms are big enough for one but they advertise them for two. No. Don’t. Comfy bed, hot shower, silent mini fridge, TV, tea and coffee. It’s great! Great location, lots of bars and cafes nearby so don’t bother with the breakfast add-on but the lamb shank on the dinner menu is delish. Just be aware the very cheapest rooms have no window.

We stayed 2 nights in a King Premium room. Lovely room with a view towards the Port Hills. Clean, generous bathroom too. The location is perfect and right in the middle of the city. The breakfast has so many options and good coffee. I would like to thanks the wonderful Tash in reservations too - she went above and beyond! We'll be back!

Once again we enjoyed our stay at Breakfree. All staff were helpful but Ash on reception was exceptional. Breakfast had a good selection which we enjoyed. Bed was comfy, shower good and room warm. Good value. And so close to lots of sites and amenities.

Great location. Overall good facilities and toiletries. |Big shower! Pillows could be a bit better! Bed was a bit hard for me! Decent hotel and I would certainly stay here again. Friendly staff. Check in was easy even though we arrived around 2.30am. Communication was great

There is a lot more that I like about this hotel than there is a I don't like. The location is perfect for everything in the central city. The staff are friendly and responded politely to my requests or questions. The hotel restaurant is handy for breakfast, lunch and dinner and as a bonus it's really tasty! The place is tidy enough, i think my room was pretty clean. It was also quiet, other people complained about the poor noise cancelation but i didnt have that issue at all. However... other aspects of my room are my major gripes. They are very small, in fact in the bedroom I was in, the bed made up 50% of the room - no exaggerating. It took me by surprise as i had booked a "double room", but i think the double stood for double bed not double rooms. My other issue is the toilet and shower facility is pretty dated, it feels and looks old. It works, but the shower took a while to heat up and the toilet oddly didn't flush all the time... the button was quite stiff. Overall, I think this hotel is perfect for an overnighter or even catching up with friends in the bar/restaurant downstairs. But for long term stay, I reccomend elsewhere for more room to "stretch out" and unpack.

Execellent bed and very clean. Helpfull front of office and nice breakfast. Fast lift and clean throuout. The room had very good stuff eg the soap and stuff in the shower was appresished. Thnigs fron the bed we close eg lights and easy to make a cup of tea or coffee was easy to make. Mayybe a couple of plate would be usfull? The location is close to the bus hub and new stabine as well as resturants in town.

Yelp
A step up from the "flashpackers" hotel but not quite full service, this is in a great location not far from the central business district. Easily walkable to just about everything in the city center. I spent two nights here. My room on the first floor was "inside" so no noise from the streets and very little noise from the hallway. It was not especially large but I didn't pay for a large room. It has just about all you would expect with plenty of room for storage, a comfy bed, decent shower and the usual coffee/tea service. My only complaint is that the work desk is very tiny with not much room at all. It took a while to work out how to turn on and off the lights. Waaaay too many buttons. Checkin was speedy. Wifi worked well. I did not have breakfast here, getting coffee in the city instead. [Review 363 of 2024 - 16 in New Zealand - 21396 overall]

Yelp
I'd call it 3.5; a 4 if you don't have mobility issues, and a 3 if you do. It seems no one who's written a review is short and / or has a mobility disability. If you have difficulties, this is probably not the place for you. I am struggling here. The beds are ridiculously high; I was told the space underneath is for suitcases. What, are people bringing steamer trunks or a gazillion bags into a two-person room? I strained my back trying (unsuccessfully) to get in the bed. I was told none of the beds were lower (no accessible rooms? Really?). Didn't help that the mattress has a big dent right where one would get in. They were kind enough to bring a two-step stool; once I figured out how to position it so I could get up safely, I was successful. If they didn't have a stool, I'd have to sleep on the floor. The room is small (don't care; had an even smaller one in Shanghai), and there's no window (rooms with windows cost more). Apparently I got some kind of super-saver rate, so there's no daily housekeeping. That's fine with me. There's a mini-fridge and electric kettle. No microwave. The TV screen is at the foot of the bed. There's an outlet by the bed and a weird alarm clock-thing on the wall next to the bed. There's a little desk space and one metal stool. The hair dryer and iron are on a shelf. There's even an ironing board under the bed. No closet, but a few hangers on a bar. Full-length mirror on the back of the door. There is central air and heating, and the place is quiet. The compact bathroom has everything you need in a half-moon kind of frosted glass space. There's a low-barrier step up into the unit. Soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided. In addition to price, there are also other pros, which is why I chose this property. It's a great location; easy walks to a lot of sites, shops, and restaurants. The tram office about three blocks away, and there's a tram stop a short block away. Around that stop is also a stop for the #8 bus, which takes you to the Gondola. The bus to the airport stops around the corner about two blocks away. Staff are friendly and helpful. Laundry facilities are on 2, 3, and 4. It's NZ$4 each for a wash and dry. The front desk has change and ypu can buy wash powder there too. If your room is on the first floor, you need to get a white key card from the front desk for access. Would I stay here again? If I weren't short, and didn't have a mobility disability, then yes. Otherwise. . .I'm not sure. Trying to get into the bed (safely and at all) is a bit of an Olympic event for me. My back still hurts from my early attempts.

Yelp
It's an affordable place to stay the night. I wouldn't call it luxurious. It is small, but clean. All of the buttons by the bed do not make sense and the instructions on it don't really help. There were no USB plugs, which really was an issue since I didn't bring the right adapter for our phones. We plugged our phone into the TV USB, however the TV had to be on to charge and we can't sleep with the TV on. The bathroom, well, it was a bathroom. It got the job done and looked like a spaceship, but was tiny. For the price, we can't really complain. Check out was a very long line, though. They need an express checkout.

Yelp
New, modern hotel, with a nice bar/restaurant in the lobby. Great location in downtown CC, within walking distance to everything. Fantastic if you are a solo-traveler and need a place for a night or two, The good news first: the bedding was very nice, there is a mini-fridge, LED TV, and a hot water/coffee maker. Free wifi (capped at 500MB/day). However, the room I had was tiny: about 3 meters by 5 meters) which means the queen size bed takes up half of the space, and the integrated bath takes up 50% of the remainder. There was no window (only a full-wall mirror). The room I had works if all you need is one night to sleep, but it won't work for a couple, let alone a family with kids, wanting to spend a few days in town. I called it "my little prison cell" - one step up from a Japanese coffin hotel due to this one having a higher ceiling.

Yelp
I have stayed in this hotel during it's many different renditions and names over the past decade from the SO to the All Seasons and now Breakfree. I will say I think this is the best version of it thus far. The breakfast options are good, they have wake up calls as an option which was not available in the older hotel variations and the facilities are generally nice, clean and modern. The rooms are the same old spaces as the older versions and at this point are becoming a bit tired. It's a super sexy concept for a lone traveler. small rooms, simple setup, not a lot of area to lose track of any of your stuff. But for couples or tall folks the standard rooms are a bit tight. They do offer bigger rooms so that would be my suggestion for those looking for a more standard room. Or if you really need a window the efficient rooms are not your best bet as they have a large mirror and great lighting, but no windows. I'm happy the facility parts and pieces have been salvaged from the earthquake so I give them props for reusing. In the end the electronics are too cumbersome to figure out to make them worth using over your iphone alarm. Room service is fast and tidy. Wifi is not quite free as there are time and data limits so until it is unlimited that is a serious limitation. And in the end it's one of the more affordable rooms in the city. So if you are looking for efficient and some wifi book here.

Yelp
The hotel is in a good location the rooms are small but it's all good, the food is delicious if you're looking for something quick and easy not outstanding but not bad

Yelp
Rooms are small and clean. I found the design and quality of the fitting a little tacky but its is a good price for the location and overall quality compared to others in the city
